Megan Joy appeared on Live with Regis and Kelly in New Orleans, LA this morning. With the wind whipping her hair in her face, Megan performed “Walking After Midnight” the Patsy Cline classic from country week.

She told Regis and Kelly afterward that after the tour, she hopes, “lots of doors can open up, and I can dabble.”

There’s a girl with a plan! Ahem.

Check out the video after the JUMP…

Well, she did say that she was perfectly fine being a stay-at-home mom (not that there’s anything wrong with that …) so I don’t peg her to be particularly career-oriented. She really comes across as having gone through all this on a lark and never really expected much.

    Sniff.

Megan is my favorite from the top thirteen, I hardly think she is a great singer but that is the way this show goes, sometimes you like the best singers and sometimes you like the not so great singers.

  • weareallinnocent

Aww, the tone of her voice is really lovely, and I did like her. I agree she seemed to get in over her head and was clueless about what she was getting into.

    Good luck, Megan!

Aw, she did well on Regis & Kelly. [:
    I wish her the best.

  • snuffles

Yeah, I think she got in over her head too. She doesn’t seem too motivated about being in the entertainment business. Unlike, someone like Adam who’s dedicated his whole life to that endeavor.

  • Lu

I predict that there’s some modeling in her future. She’s drop dead gorgeous.

Oh wow. I really, really loved this performance. I’m so surprised. I was never a fan of hers.

She’s gorgeous too. I hope everything turns out well for her. She just needs the right material. Her tone is lovely.

I loved this, and its closer to the kind of artist Ive always perceived her to be, very simple and old-school-ish. But damn talk about going where the wind blows. Girl does not have a plan and seems to be ok with whatever happens. Its pretty cute and hippy-like but I dont see her having a career in entertainment with a personality like that

The Idols who go back home and wait for their phones to ring aren’t going to end up with careers. The motivated kids know that being on the show is just a foot in the door…it takes a lot of hard work after that to have a career.

Yup, which kinda sucks cause I do think with the right people she could make some cool weird music, she just doesnt have the drive. Not everybody’s heart is in it I guess *shrugs*

  • Dlynne

That was a beautiful performance! She looks and sounds healthy. Maybe she’ll be one of the lucky ones – I hope so because she does have a lovely and unique sound. With the right song, she could be another Colbie Caillat.

  • Calliope

I really liked Megan. She kind of reminded me of Bianca Casady of CocoRosie, but with a lot less quirks and weirdness (and Bianca is the less weird sister!). Probably why she didn’t quite fit the show, combined with her lack of experience. I guess why I liked Megan (possibly more as a concept) because she seemed like a more mainstream concept of pop acts I like who aren’t big. It’s rare that happens on American Idol. Adam has this factor to a lesser extent.

I do hope to see something from her in the future, but she seems to lack the drive.

I don ´t think there is much hope for her to be signed, IMHO in the beauty, personality and talent departments Brooke is way better and she didn ´t get signed, neither did Jason Castro and both of them have a stronger fanbases that Megan seem to have…

man, i liked her a lot. it was nice seeing her while it lasted…

Somebody like Megan would have been better served during the first couple seasons of AI, when wanted to nurture new talent. Nowadays they throw them under the bus for all their shortcomings. She’s made the tour so luckily her worst case scenario is that she makes a ton of cash on the AI tour and gets to use it to make a more comfortable life for her and her son.

  • gingerly

I actually think they wanted Megan to step it up and do well on the show. I don’t think they saved her just to throw her under the bus. She did her own bus throwing, a sort of suicide. I just think there’s a much higher standard to judge by in recent seasons.

I also believe there were more talented people (by far) they could have saved, but they were blinded by the pretty.

  • earthy

Her personality is just cool. She is just laid back and interesting. She definitely deserved to go home as she didn’t step it up like they wanted her to. She wasn’t dull (aka Scott , no offense).

Megan could of probably lasted even another two or three weeks if she picked good songs but she didn’t except for this one. Best of luck to her.

If Kellie Pickler could have a better career than Elliott then there’s hope for Megan. Elliott had the best voice ever but not many appreciated him. This show is not about singng. I can see Megan doing comedy on teevee.

  • gingerly

I don’t think Megan could ever do comedy. It should never come from an entitled place and that, to me, is exactly where she comes from. She’s not funny, she’s not even cute, except for her looks. Kellie has a special charm. I’m not saying everybody gets it, but Kelly totally pwns this chickie (said snarkily and in a cawing manner).

Um, I had to do a double take on the screen cap pic, because I didn’t read the heading and thought we were going to hear something about KLC…Anyone else think this, or am I just super tired?

  • magnolia

i wouldn’t be surprised if megan made some decent albums and had a limited success in the future, considering american idol is her first on-stage experience, she sure has a lot of potential.

megan is american idol’s experiment this year, this show wanted to nurture some untapped talent in the competition, sadly, it didn’t work out.

    good luck, megan

OMIGOSH! like i knew it was megan, but i totally saw a little bit of KLC in that pic and it kind of threw me off a little too! lol

  • NOLA

She was beautiful. My town was beautiful. In a musical city such as ours, her talent *cough,* might get her a transfer on the streetcar. Not much else.

  • Layla

    Thought she missed her baby?

  • ettacandy

In my opinion: Megan dove under the bus. No one threw her there. To the contrary; the show loved her.

I did see a similarity with Kellie Pickler, in that both had the “package” appeal of silliness/quirkiness, beauty, and unique vocal quality; her voice isn’t good but it IS unique. This is very very important. Pitch problems can be fixed in the studio – Taylor Swift is a great example!

But, Kellie was signed by 19E after her season. Megan won’t be signed, because she doesn’t seem willing to work for success… and her interviews sound as though she’s not really interested, either. It didn’t help that she gave the show a giant “up yours” on her way out the door…. but I don’t think the AI experience was what she expected, at all.

Megan tried out for Idol on a lark, as if she was trying out for the high school musicial. She ended up with a lead and then realized she’d have to rehearse… practice in the mirror… take lessons… take criticism… and eventually, mold herself to be what the show casted her to be. Not a lot of fun, I bet.

On top of this: she wants to be a SAHM. Period. There is nothing at ALL wrong with this ambition but, honestly, that doesn’t gibe well with launching amusic career. I don’t think Megan expected to be away from her son for this long. She didn’t think it through.

So, anyway, my prediction is that Megan will go on tour, have some fun, and will get a TON of offers to do “stuff”: commentary, interviews, and who knows – maybe a cartoon voice over. She’ll get her wish to dabble. But she won’t produce a full length CD anytime soon, nor will she continue on to Kellie Pickler success. Not that she doesn’t have talent – she does – Megan just doesn’t have the drive, the ambition, to do it NOW. And, my friends, you have to really have to WANT it to make it in the music business.

    As ever, YMMV.
And, honestly – I wish her well.

  • dmr

A lot of folks are trying to read things in between the lines that don’t belong there. Megan’s heart is in this or she wouldn’t have lasted as long as she did. She’s very excited about the tour, and rightly so. I wasn’t planning to go to the AI concert this year, but I probably will now.

I do hope we see more of Megan because I love her style, and she has such a cool vibe about her. I wish she had done Adele…I think that would have kept her around for at least another week.

But if she doesn’t make it in the music industry, she’s perfectly happy playing the mommy role, and I think that is ultra cool!
