UPDATE: I just added FOX LA. Those wacky chicks at Good Day Live greeted Megan with flappy arms and a “Caw Caw” Pretty Hilarious–don’t miss it.

From Megan Joy’s interview this morning on Ryan Seacrest’s KISS LA radio show.

After he plays clips of the contestants goofing on each other’s singing, Ryan interviews Megan who says she was surprised at Simon’s reaction to her saying she didn’t care what he thought of her song. “I didn’t expect it to be such a big deal,” she says.

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

After the JUMP, Megan’s interview with FOX NY this morning.

“I truly really didn’t care that they didn’t like, I was proud of myself…their rude opinion just didn’t matter to me.” says Megan about telling Simon she didn’t care what he thought. Megan says she was, “Truly, truly excited” about her song choice and wouldn’t change it. She is excited to go out on tour with the rest of the Top 10.

I’m glad Megan didn’t back off the comment about not caring about Simon’s critique from the previous night.

Simon’s “indulgent” quip really is rude in that it takes the song choice criticism beyond just being about a song and, in fact, becomes a comment on character and mind of the person choosing the song. I’ve never felt like it was an evaluation that a reality show flunky like Simon aught to be making about songs taken from producer approved & cleared (and in some cases, all but assigned) list of choices. It IS personal and intended to provoke the contestant.

  • primeminister

Well, all I have to say is…she does VFTW proud. They’ll love these interviews!

  • houstonrufus

What was she supposed to do? Bow down at his feet and weep for mercy? Whatevs. He’s the one that took her comment too personally and acted like the indignant ego maniac asshat that he actually is, as Slezak suggested in his recap. Not everyone hangs their self esteem on Simon’s every word, evidently. Thank god for it. And, yes, not everyone thinks his word comes from some mount of truth.

  • AnoopFan

Simons a prick. I love all what Meghan had to say.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    I’m happy she’s happy.

    I’m happy she’s gone.

  • cacity87

I like Megan. But for her to say that she didn’t care about their “rude opinion” is a bit selfish on her part. I mean, they ARE the ones who put her in the Top 13.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m happy sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s happy.

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m happy sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gone.

    My thoughts exactly.

  • Niall

I was never much of a Megan fan but I appreciate the fact that she has enough self-esteem to not act needy for Simon’s approval. She was out of her depth in this competition, simply because it is no longer for amateurs, it is for undiscovered semi-professionals. The judges put her through to the Top 13 by praising all the stuff she was suddenly slammed for once the contest started. I don’t blame her at all for taking a “I don’t care” attitude about their opinion.

  • pj

Eh, I don’t care for her sense of entitlement to good critiques. Even if she had DESERVED a better critique (which see didn’t), her attitude would annoy me. Caw caw on back to Utah, babe. At least the tour will have something for the Dads.

Megan said on Idol Extra that she had never held a microphone before American Idol. In that context, I think she did quite well. The last thing a raw, unpolished amateur like Megan should do is take the fully-scripted comments dispensed by these judges when it is “time to go” into her heart. Carly Smithson, hardly an beginner, started down that road last year and it really is NOT a good idea.

  • bestboy

I will buy the Megan Joy CD if it comes out…might it surpass the “Princess P” numbers? I actually find her attitude refreshing.

  • loosegoose

Has AI ever had more vacuous contestant than Cawkrey? Sorry, but her “I don’t care” does not sound like the statement of a confident person bucking a weird system. It sounds like the whining of a person who expects praise for her feelings regardless of her lack of work or thought.

Other contestants have some cause for complaint about the judges’ comments, but in my view the judges were less hard on her than they should have been. Her inability to accept criticism and work with it, not just this week but the whole run of the show, demonstrates that she is really not ready for the big time. The show is well rid of her.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

Exactly pj. And not to mention the fact that this is basically a job interview. And you don’t tell one of the people interviewing you, who is partially responsible for putting you where you are in the first place, that you “don’t care” what they think. Which leads me to – if she DIDN’T care and didn’t want to be there, she should have left a long time ago and not taken up a spot that could have been occupied by Jesse, Felicia, or Mishavonna.

UGH. And I even liked her. Until last night.

  • tommy

Her quirkiness was starting to overshadow her distinctive voice. And then her smart alecky attitude to me wasn’t refreshing, it was disrespectful. I don’t expect contestants to stand there and get trashed after working really hard to give a good performance, give your contrasting opinion like a professional, however by saying “I don’t care” is ridiculous – you just come across as a brat. You are not owed anything on that stage or your time at Idol, you are there because first you were hand-picked, and then the public has it’s say. Get over your hurt feelings or your ego bruises, better learn awful fast how to deal with that. I liked Megan for awhile, but her voice didn’t suit the songs she herself chose, so she was rightly voted off. I wish her well.

  • Victoria

^ I totally agree. I think it’s fine to reply to the judges, but with respect. “I don’t care” isn’t respectful IMO.

  • KeyserS

I’m all for contestants deciding not to take the judges’ comments (especially Simon’s) to heart, but I feel like she never earned the right to have that attitude. She’s someone whose, um, genetic gifts and quirks pushed her ahead of other singers with more vocal promise, and she never appeared to try to push herself to improve. If she had been a contestant who constantly turned in underrated performances and had been subjected to unfair maligning from the judges, I’d root her on (but still think her kind of immature). But I can’t help thinking that singers like Mishovanna, Felicia, and Jessie — and certainly Alexis Grace — would have been happy to be in her position.

  • background_noise

Megan made a total fool of herself last night, IMO. I don’t know about a recording career, but at least VFTW will accept their songbird with open wings.

Can’t believe Jesse and Alexis were booted in favor of her.

  • gingerly

It’s all good. She made her bed. Nobody wants to work with an entitled bitch, pretty or not, so she can go back to editing fonts…

  • abbysee

Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s someone whose, um, genetiand c gifts and quirks pushed her ahead of other singers with more vocal promise, she never appeared to try to push herself to improve.

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t careà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t respectful IMO.

Adios, Lady Caw Caw, don’t let the door hit ya where the good Lord split ya! Vacuous little nymph….

  • chicksineggz

In past years I might have been annoyed by comments like “I don’t care” but I’m pretty much hating the judges this season. I think Megan has a great attitude. Way better than whining like some other contestants have.

  • sma11ie

I’m sure she’s a fine person, but I just could not stand her on my TV. Not the singing, not the faces, not the back talk, or the VFTW shoutouts. I’m not saying she necessarily sucks as a person, but the Megan that came off on TV could not have sucked worse and I’m SOOOO glad she’s gone.

  • holeighannie

I haven’t watched these videos, I’m in class, but it just sounds like more of the same from last night, with perhaps even more attitude. There’s nothing wrong with letting the judges’ comments roll off your back, but she was kind of disrespectful, especially given how we all know that’s how Simon reacts to things like that. The judges may be acting like children a lot this season, but they’ve been doing this for 7 years already. They put her on the damn show, she could just sit there and be quiet. I’m sure Adam didn’t like the comments Simon had for him after GOO Week, but he just smiled and took it.

As far as her never before holding a mic or whatever, that makes me feel even stronger that she should’ve kept her mouth shut. She’s the biggest newbie to all of this so she should be quiet and listening to the people who gave her a chance.

  • Fender

I personally find Megan to be way less entitled than, say, Lil, or especially Danny. They seem to think they’re awesome singers, and seem kind of shocked when someone disagrees. I don’t think Megan ever thought she was an awesome singer, or even that she had a chance to win. I think she just kind of figured “Hey, I’ll do my own thing and see how it goes.”

I actually found Megan to be funny last night. Maybe I’m over thinking it, but it seemed like she knew she was toast, and just decided to be goofy, have fun, and not fuck around with all the games and !drama! the producers and judges prefer. I would much rather watch that than Alexis get her dreams shattered.

  • weese

I don’t get the Megan hate. But I am so beyond believing any of these kids should be grateful. They are cash cows to idol and most of them end up really nothing more.

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Last week and this, she sounded to me as if she had a rather inflated view of her talents and her “fans.” I thought her behavior last night was immature at best and definitely disrespectful. I’m sorry she wasted our time and took the spot from others who, imo, were much more worthy, if this wasn’t something she really wanted. Since I won’t be seeing the tour, I figure I only have to worry about her being in front of me for the finale. I will definitely not miss her on the AI stage.

  • background_noise

In photos, Megan and Adam seemed to be tight. Too bad some of his professionalism didn’t rub off on her. I wish her well, but if that was a job interview, she blew it.

  • IGetCranked

I’m thinking Simon was just annoyed by her over all. Her performances were horrendous and the bird thing plus the crazy faces she was pulling was very annoying to watch. In Simon’s eyes, she was making a joke of the show. (my opinion)

  • piperlily

If she’s standing by what she said that she didn’t care about their “rude comments” which were criticism each week for her to adjust her approach to help her get further on the show and get better for a singing career — then she didn’t deserve to be there and isn’t ready to make it in the big world in this biz.

In any art field — music, art, whatever, you need to be able to handle criticism — good and bad. The way she handled hers was get testy, argumentative, or totally ignore it altogether. Not a way to improve.

Mishavonna should’ve been in her place.

  • Layla

She sounds disrespectful and bratty. I think in actuality she was the one who got her feelings hurt when she started receiving negative critques…IMO I think they went easy on her as she sucked from the beginning.

Did she think being pretty was enough? She ain’t that goodlooking and her attitude makes her just plain unattractive.

I found her to be narcissistic, self-indulgent with an air of self-entitlement.

  • wjmtv

I’ve only been watching since halfway through last year. Has Simon ever explained what he means by “indulgent?”

Most of the time, despite his brusqueness/rudeness, his comments are usually the ones that could actually help a contestant to improve. But that comment tells you nothing.

  • jodeb

Onto next week. I would love Allison to do *her* ballad, “The Man Who Sold The World,” the Nirvana cover of David Bowie that came out in 1992.

Jordis Unga had a *moment* with it on Rock Star INXS and Allison has the same raspy voice and would finally give the Judges *their* ballad and bring the house down with her moment. It would be so perfect for her and her voice and shut the critics up once and for all. Allison is the dark horse here and should not only be the Last Woman Standing, but the last ONE STANDING AND WIN THIS WHOLE THING!!!!!

Hair pulled back, simply dressed and tear their hearts out, Allison. You can do it!!!!!

  • jpfan

I can understand her getting defensive but it was stupid. It made for fun TV but nobody who bashes the show ever seems to do well post Idol. Unless they’re a mega talent like Jennifer Hudson which this girl isn’t. I mean they’re basically giving you fame (and a little fortune if you make the tour) so if you have to suck it up, big deal.

But her brother screaming at Kara was a tip off that there’s something weird going on with the whole family.

  • Dr. Tracey

I’m so glad she’s gone. She couldn’t sing for nuts.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

But her brother screaming at Kara was a tip off that thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s something weird going on with the whole family.

Maybe he was the one advising her. Remember when Simon advised her to fire whomever was giving her advice. Heehe.

She’s clearly not my overnight heroine for “standing up” to Simon Cowell and TPTB. Whatever. Her entire attitude last night screamed, “I don’t care.” And, I can’t help but think of at least three contestants who would have probably given a limb to stand where she stood.

I’m grateful not to have to hear her sing again.

  • YankeeFan08

Good riddance Megan! Her voice sucked big time. What the heck were the judges thinking when they put her through to the top 13. She took a spot that a much more deserving contestant could have filled. She came across as such a wacko last night. I am so happy I don’t have to look at her anymore.

  • rockvixen

I can honestly say I am glad Megan is gone. Unfortunately, she will also be on the tour. Alexis deserved her spot.

  • Niall

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve only been watching since halfway through last year. Has Simon ever explained what he means by à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“indulgent?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Indulgent is code for “you are doing something you enjoy rather than trying to suck up to us and do what we told you to do, I don’t like it.”

In Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s eyes, she was making a joke of the show.

Which just proves Simon doesn’t realize how much his shit stinks this year. He, the other judges, and the producers cannot complain about contestants seeming to consider the show a joke when they pull the stunts they do, such as fake deliberations about a save, telling singers the show isn’t about “artistry” only to turn around and say it is, and basically change the rules of the road on a weekly basis for all but the chosen few.

Stranger still, I don’t think Megan started doing poorly, she seemed the same this week as she was prior to the Top 13, in my opinion. They put her through for her quirky manner and voice, praised her for it even. Then when she went out with a quirky manner and voice they started slamming her, as if she was supposed to morph into Kelly Clarkson suddenly. No wonder she was pissed off and confused. I don’t think she felt entitled to good critiques, I think she was puzzled as to why what she was ABLE to do was suddenly hated by people who loved it two weeks earlier.

  • SpenserJ

I agree that saying “I don’t care” was unprofessional and not the most polite response to the question. But I can’t just assume that she hasn’t cared about the whole process the whole time. Some of the judges comments are pretty harsh and personal. And, week after week, not all of them can withstand it with grace. Some of them just get fed up, get defensive and get somewhat nasty. It’s a disappointing response, and it irks me when they do it, but I can’t stay mad at them about it. It’s stupid, but not unforgivable (to me). Of course those who appear to be cracking under the pressure and cannot withstand the criticism, tend not to go very far (America no likey the smart-asses).

    Alexis deserved her spot.

For me, it’s a tv talent show where the result is left up to a few million Americans with their various opinions and agendas. I’m not sure under those circumstances that anyone deserves anything. I liked Alexis a lot, but for whatever reason, she couldn’t entice enough people to vote for her.

  • gingerly

Meh, they do it every year in one fashion or another. It’s what you sign up for when you sign up for Idol. IMO you serve yourself so much better by sucking it up and saying thank you no matter how poor and/or off topic the critique is.

From what I’ve heard, Adam has gained himself many fans by his just saying thank you, no matter what they say. Granted, it’s much easier when the overwhelming majority of the comments are positive, but even Allison at the tender age of 16 has figured out that she will smile and laugh a bit when they say they don’t like her attire. She looked lightyears more mature than Megan in her handling of their comments.

I honestly think Megan came off as pissy and entitled. Her brother’s yelling out in the audience shows me that it’s a family trait.

Oh and btw, I’m really not a fan of anybody this year.

  • Natasha

I think Megan really didn’t care but you probably shouldn’t say that. You piss Simon off at your own risk.

  • movin2thabeet

It sure looks from here like Megan got onto this show based primarily on her good looks and quirkiness and once on, instead of trying to improve herself, she took this opportunity to simply play. She obviously is a fun-loving gal who enjoys easy friendships and messing around with songs. I do think she has the potential to be a really captivating, interesting artist but instead she squandered that chance by shaking off the helpful criticism she received and instead, chose to dig in her heels to do it “her way”. She doesn’t seem to get that the judges were trying to help her bring more of her uniqueness out, in a more skillful way. I think they were trying to help her develop her skills, and she said “No, thanks, I’m fine with my skills as they are”. Well, anyone that doesn’t think they can use improvement and turns down help, pretty much deserves their fate, as far as I’m concerned.

In some ways, I think Megan’s attractiveness has made it harder for her to get down to the hard work required to develop her musicality, cause she gets let it in the side door regardless. Sigh. I can see her doing some modeling, TV or commercials or maybe working with a producer in a studio who makes serious use of the pitch fixer. Heck, many a pop star is soaring to the top of the charts with the help of that tool. I’m 99% sure that even Kelly Clarkson is using it in the studio now. I think it blows that real artistry and talent is so incidental to success at this time in our culture. In the end, it doesn’t serve the culture, the artist or the listeners to do this end run around talent.

    QUESTION:

Is there anybody on American Idol more “self-indulgent” than Simon Cowell?

    Just A Thought!

  • Skylark

Yeah, how dare she make a joke of the show? That’s the judges’ job, dangit!!

Becuse is in the job description….
You sing for American Idol you get to the top 50 or any moment of the audition you are going to get a critic, and Simon ´s job and part in this play is to be the “bad guy”… all the people that have made it far in this program, i.e. the Davids, made it by smile and take the good things in the critics and dismissed the bad…

I never liked Megan, and I think she didn ´t get the idea that were she was, IMO the program is better with out her in it… now if only they could eliminate Anoop, Danny and Matt in the same night I will be really happy

  • gingerly

Do you think they could take Lil with them?

  • weese

Not all the comments given by the judges are meant to help the contestants improve. In fact some of the advice is used to get them voted off and to diminish their fan base. These kids have to at some point realize they are fodder. Should they go out gracefully? Megan was anything but graceful. In many ways she was the most awkward person ever on Idol. I’m glad she gave us something to talk about today.

  • ohreli

She NEVER cared what the judges thought, thats why she never improved! Remember it was the public that voted her out, not the judges. If she HAD “cared”, maybe she would have improved, and would have have gained more of a fan base (more than just the VFTW crowd!)

  • RemusL

I didn’t care much for Megan’s performances on the show but based on her interviews before, during and after the show, I love her attitude and personality. I don’t think she was being disrespectful to the show with her comments. I think she just had enough of the frequent hypocritical, contradictory statements from the judges and didn’t care to stroke Simon’s bloated ego any more.

Despite what the judges with obscene salaries might think, AI is not about them. If there’s any disrespect going on, it’s more often the judges making flippant egotistical commentary designed to place themselves more in the limelight. All of the changes this season (adding the 4th judge, more time-wasting banter between judges, the wild card show with no public voting, the awful judges’ save, the pompous intro of the judges and having them march out on stage waving to the cheering peons) were designed to get viewers to pay THEM more attention.

Ryan (and the producers) share some of the blame for deliberately goading and provoking the kids to air their understandable frustrations with “backtalk” at the judges. The ones with more public-relations savvy (e.g. Adam) know not to succumb to the trap of wearing negative emotions on their sleeves. No matter how ridiculous or unjustified the critiques, it’s a no-win situation to disagree with the judges. No doubt Adam has learned this through his years of going for auditions.

  • Lu

I dont understand why she acts like a bird.

  • little D

I think meg brought it all on herself! Having been there, Simon was not the only one not happy with her comment that she did not care ! The other judges were not happy with it either. I was disrespectful. M chose to be on the show and part of it is getting comments from the judges both good and bad. The flapping of the arms and noises etc were all just childish! Allison even joined in on the arm flapping but she is a child so she could say she does not know better but M is old enough to know better. I hope she behaves better on the tour. Maybe some of the level headed guys can take her under their wing and teach her how to be respectful !

  • Niall

I just find it funny that Simon is always defending himself and his right to be blunt and honest, and he’s the one who said the contestants should up the drama by talking back , yet he got pissy at Megan for basically doing exactly what he does and what he’s said he wanted. I can’t help but wonder if he’s a little lessy pissy about it than he let on. If not he’s the world’s biggest hypocrite. I mean, seriously? Simon Cowell being down on somebody for being brutally honest and borderline rude? LOL

  • Lu

Maybe some of the level headed guys can take her under their wing and teach her how to be respectful !

Take her under their wing…. sorry that is just really funny to me!

  • weese

I read elsewhere from someone who was there that it came across as very rude in person. Maturity doesn’t always come with age or experience. Just look at Simon, Paula and Kara.

  • sayxwhat

I loved Megan’s personality. If this were a personality contest, she’d totally win =] And she seems like… someone I’d hang out with. Anyways, I wasn’t really a fan of any of her performances, although I did LOVE her voice. I’m glad that she’s happy. And it was her time to go. I’m happy that she’ll get to see her son again. That must’ve been unbearable; being away from him like that.

  • sparklesgirl2

    I’m torn on this issue.

While I understand that many contestants would give a limb to be in Megan’s shoes, they’re not the ones there; she is. And she’s going to make the most of it the best way she knows how.

I think she was borderline disrespectful and just plain weird, which I don’t think will do her any favors in the long run, but if she wised up to the fact that she was put in as fodder to propel the Chosen Ones to the front of the pack, then good for her. If she realized her fate was inevitable, that she was being played by the judges in the beginning and she was never going to win, she had every right to have fun up there until the end of the line, at least in my opinion.

Maybe she even appreciated VFTW’s support and wanted to shout out to them. Of course she looked at DialIdol and knew it was a huge possibility, not to mention her performance compared to some of the others last night and the judge reactions. Maybe she knew the judges would never save her (or probably anyone except the Chosen Ones) and didn’t care what her last impression on them was.

That said, I’m sure she’s pissed off a ton of people and, as I said, not done herself any favors. She had her 15 minutes of fame and can do whatever she wants with it. If I had been in her shoes, though, I would have handled it much differently!

  • weareallinnocent

I’m torn too. That’s a good way to put it.

On the one hand, obviously saying she didn’t care and acting a fool on the show was not the best way to go. Now that I have the “needless to say” out of the way…

People feel what they feel and deal how they deal. Not to put too much stock in the “family way” as evidenced by the brother’s odd show of support by shouting at Kara, people also are raised and react differently from others. To me, it was telling in her Fox NY interview that she responded that she did not chastise her brother for the shout out because “she loves him and always wants him to just be himself.” Maybe there’s a premium on “just being” in that family. LOL And, frankly, I see some value to that approach — imagine how carefree that could be. :-)

Yet, I feel like Megan cared very much. She left her son’s side for this gig, and that couldn’t have been easy. Having a child also probably allowed her the perspective that whatever happened (or whatever Simon said) really wasn’t that important in the grand scheme. Kids have a way of doing that for you.

But, I stand by my belief that Megan’s defenses kicked in hard at some point. Over the weeks, I could hear her nerves as she performed — much less so with her swan song, imo — which told me she cared alot. And, the close ups of her face as they slammed her in past weeks really did show alot of hurt in her eyes. And, I suppose she heard alot of crap thrown at her friends too. So, at some point, to deal with the as she called them “rude opinions,” she adopted a devil may care attitude. Good for her. (We’ve all seen the opposite, ala Carly Smithson.)

No, not the greatest job interview she’s been on, I suspect. But AI should thank her, as she’s created lots of buzz this week, taking the focus off what could be described as a horrendous (non)theme night (or a total flop.)

In the end, like SpenserJ, I can’t hold it against her all that long. Sometimes I wish I could have the strength and resilience she seems to.
    :-)

  • Kirsten

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m torn on this issue.

    I’m torn as well.

Based on my previous comments, people may know by now that the producers and judges annoy me with the way they treat the contestants. The show makes a gazillion dollars off these kids. The producers play all sorts of psycho mind games. The judges are paid millions of dollars and don’t have the decency to sit there and at least pretened to pay attention. The show isn’t fair. I have a permanent residence on the Grassy Knoll.

So, on the one hand, I applaud somebody for standing up to the show and refusing to be their dancing bear.

On the other hand, Megan seems to me to have been one of the contestants blessed by the system. Unlike many past contestants, they judges did not call out her ridiculous dancing, her 3-note range, her horrible phrasing, her off-key notes, etc. They dismissed it all by calling her “quirky” and “original” and a “package artist”. I think the judges have been rather nice to her. They’ve told her she picked the wrong songs (and it’s true), but they didn’t “punch her in the face”. If she wants to see “punched in the face” review comments, I could dig some up. Plus, she got put through on the wildcard ahead of people who did have an ability to sing/move. So, for her to be upset about the “rude” comments she received, seems totally bizarre to me.

It’s like the spoiled rich kid having to do something mere mortals normally have to do (like washing their own car), getting a martyr complex and expecting me to be all “down with the system” with them. Dude, you lived a charmed life on the show. You didn’t get the shaft. Now, if Kristen or Ricky wants me to get “down with the system”, hand me a picket sign and I’ll do some chanting.

I think she was borderline disrespectful and just plain weird

Me too, I think she has a bratty attitude, and her comments about her brother and herself just proved it to me even more.

On the other hand, I think Simon’s a petulant whiny bully too. And he’s too old to be so immature.

I can’t help thinking of the classy way that Jorge left the show, when he deserved to stay longer. Meagan was very lucky to stay as long as she did. She definitely has a martyr attitude about herself and how “rudely” she was treated. She got off easy. If anyone should gripe it would be Alexis.

Do you think they could take Lil with them?

Oh No, Lil is a league on her own… being in the program is enough punishement for her ego, seeing contestants like Kris, Allison and Adam that are way more talented than her…

    QUESTION:

Is there anybody on American Idol more à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“self-indulgentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ than Simon Cowell?

    Just A Thought!

He absolutely is but honestly? He’s earned that right whether we agree or not. All of the judges, even if we can’t stand them at times or all of the time, have made careers and have a background that has enabled them to sit in those seats and earn that money.

Every kid that is on AI is looking for a chance to make their own career. This show can be that opportunity and part of it is learning how to take criticism gracefully, even if they don’t believe it is accurate. Megan showed no respect and no grace last night.

No matter what business someone is in, there are bosses that are hard to take and criticism that is unfair. It is part of growing up and part of paying your dues. I never would choose to do that in front of 24 million people, but then I’d never try out for Idol either! (even if I was young and talented enough)

an interesting thread idea…how Idol would have been different if contestants had actually listened to the judges advice…or how much better it turned out when contestants ignored the judges…

The flapping of the arms and noises etc were all just childish! Allison even joined in on the arm flapping but she is a child so she could say she does not know better but M is old enough to know better. I hope she behaves better on the tour. Maybe some of the level headed guys can take her under their wing and teach her how to be respectful !

little D… and Simon drawing a mustache on Paula’s face with a crayon while disrespecting Allison by not focusing on giving her a proper critique ISN’T childish? I think Simon and Paula are certainly more than old enough to know better. Unfortunately, this being season 8, I don’t have any illusions that they will stop behaving like spoiled children.

As for the AI tour, I guess you didn’t attend one of the season 7 concerts which featured the excellent Mavid dance routines.

Is there anybody on American Idol more à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“self-indulgentà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ than Simon Cowell?

That’s not the point. Simon indulged her more than she did by giving horrible performance and not calling her on it. Maybe she should have told him fuck off when she was turding on the stage and he would affirm her right to do so. Don’t get pissy when he finally pulled the cotton out of his ears.

I dont understand why she acts like a bird.

    Self-indulgence perhaps?

Fwiw, personality isn’t popping off and pissing people off. Kris has personality, Adam has personality, Allison have personality. They also have been slammed yet they take it politely, they may thing Simon’s a prick but they know that he’s the prick that judges them. Thank goodness her child is young so he won’t understand that both his mom and uncle behaved like asses on nationwide teevee. Yup, personality plus.

^Maybe they are trying to get younger in demographic… so they are doing this to get more audience in kindergarden age…

But, I stand by my belief that Meganà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s defenses kicked in hard at some point. Over the weeks, I could hear her nerves as she performed à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ much less so with her swan song, imo à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ which told me she cared alot. And, the close ups of her face as they slammed her in past weeks really did show alot of hurt in her eyes. And, I suppose she heard alot of crap thrown at her friends too. So, at some point, to deal with the as she called them à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rude opinions,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ she adopted a devil may care attitude.

I noticed the nerves and the hurt expressions, too. When Simon criticized her again on Tuesday night, her whole face looked frozen with fear and pain, as though she stopped breathing and swallowing. Even someone as experienced and seemingly professional as Adam can’t hide his anxiety as he listens to the judges’ comments.

If Simon were ice cream, he would be pralines and dick. Simon pimpeth and Simon taketh away. Nevertheless, a substantial portion of the audience considers him their proxy and will not reward contestants who are disrespectful to him.

Unfortunately for Megan, the last impression she left with the audience and the industry was childish and bizarre — and not in a charming way. When the interviews are over and her bravado disappears, she might start feeling embarrassed and regretful over her extremely public behavior. I hope she has some wise, loving support to help her deal with everything.

I never got into Mavid. Just sayin. Not everyone thought they were excellent.

Honestly, part of me does feel sorry for Megan, because she fell for her own hype. I understand that other contestants love her and she’s a “free spirit” and all. But she was given the opportunity of a lifetime based mostly on her looks, and when the judges tried to steer her in the right direction, she dismissed their advice. Dumb. As a fan of Jesse, that irks me. I remember when Jesse questioned Randy, she asked for specifics. She really wanted to know what they wanted from her because she recognized the opportunity. People criticized her for that, but I thought it was great. Megan, on the other hand, isn’t looking to figure out what could help her, but she just plain out doesn’t care what the judges think.

While I know the judges are idiots, they are still the idiots that will help you in you career. Have I ever disliked a boss? Hell ya. Did I caw at them? Hell no.

And honestly, I don’t think Simon’s comments were only a reaction to her comment about not caring. I think it had to do with her mockery of the process. The same process that put her in front of millions of peeps.

  • Cakenbake

The Caw Caw flapping her arms routine will make Megan memorable that is for sure…lol

The woman announcer said “Chris Daughtery didn’t win and look at how well he did”, comparing Daughtery to Megan.

Sorry, love Megan’s kookiness, but Chris Daughtery never had one bad week.

If Simon were ice cream, he would be pralines and dick.

    LOL!

I think we should petition Ben and Jerry’s to make a signature ice cream for Simon, like they did for Jerry Garcia, the Cherry Garcia ice cream. “Cowell’s Creamy Comments, Pralines and Dick – watch out for the nuts!” Ok, kidding aside, if they came up with flavors for all four judges, and distributed them only during the AI season, that could be a money maker. So instead of coke cups on the judges’ table, there would be pints of ice cream. Unless of course you are going to make a coke float, and then you could tie in two products. And at the end of the season all of the judges would be 20 pounds heavier which would segue nicely into a third product placement, a celebrity spokesperson deal with Jenny Craig. Hey, I’m just trying to get this show some advertising cash so they can hire a better production team.

Oh, last night was a wing ding. I did feel bad for Megan as I do think she cares but just couldn’t handle the stress. I think she may regret how she behaved, but isn’t that always the way it goes. It’s like getting drunk at the office Christmas party and someone took pictures. There is just no denying it, especially when they pin them up in the employee lunch room.

I think it has to be tough to be ripped a new one in front of a live audience and millions of viewers at home. I think the natural reaction is to defend yourself and it takes iron will to keep your trap shut.

Anoop and Lil have both dipped their toes into the “I’m not taking this crap” pool but stopped themselves from wading in too far.

Gokey hasn’t received a severe enough lashing yet so we don’t know how he would act. But like another poster said, he has no filter. He would probably do or say the first thing that popped into his head, which would be a Simon impersonation. “Oh, look at me I’m Simon, wearing my Hanes T-shirt. I can color in the lines and say you sing like crap at the same time. I’m so superior because I have a British accent!”

Adam is the professional here. He’s gotton alot of praise, but some brutal comments from Simon as well. I’m sure it pissed Adam off. But I agree with the poster who said years of auditioning and being told you are too tall, to young, etc, has taught him to take it more in stride.

Allison seems like a good natured teen who probably thinks Simon and Randy are old and so they don’t get it. So in her books, if Simon thinks her outfit is bad, she’s probably doing something right.

I always feel Matt is on the edge of snapping because his nerves get to him. Even if he doesn’ t talk back, he needs to watch the faces he pulls. There’s alot of ways to convey F U without ever saying the words.

Kris just doesn’t seem like the type of guy that ever gets mad, even when he’s getting kicked.

Scott is the most good natured contestant. I don’t think they will ever slam him too hard and I don’t think he has much of a temper. I think he knows that he won’t win but is thankful for where he is at. I think the judges know that he knows, so with everyone in the know, no reason to get mean. I’m sure Simon will say, “I think it might be your time to go” in a nice way, and that will be it for Scott.
