And good for her for bringing up the statistics of how many people are killed a day. And for bringing how gradual the abuse can be, and the shame of it happening to them. I admire her for sharing her surviving, her thriving and her decision to share her story. And on a less serious note, thank goodness I don't watch SYTYCD anymore, because I don't see how I could rag on her for her shrieking and hot tamale train comments after seeing this segment and how much dance meant to her. Knowing how difficult it is for women to finally leave or make the abuser leave is no easy task. Mary was lucky to have a career which provided her with independence. Having her father apologize to her for not helping was an important part of the healing process. Now she can be at peace. I did not expect Ellen to reveal that she too had been abused and no one would help her. That tore at my heart strings. The pain does not go away entirely. This interview WILL help someone. I watched the show and was in tears. Knowing how difficult it is for women to finally leave or make the abuser leave is no easy task. The 'electric fence' was the perfect description of the psychological impact domestic abuse has on it's victims. My heart goes out to her. If just one person is saved by her story, if one friend or family member begins to listen and believe the horrid truths, it was worth the pain to tell.
