World-class dancer and choreographer Mary Murphy will return to SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE as one of the series’ resident judges. Murphy will sit alongside Nigel Lythgoe and draw upon her expertise to critique and praise the dancers throughout the competition.

“I am delighted to have Mary back on the show. Her expertise in dance, coupled with her warmth, compassion and humor, make her an excellent judge and fun to work with,” said Lythgoe, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE co-creator, executive producer and judge.

good move. I might watch the season.

So glad to see Mary back where she belongs.

    Any news of Alex Wong?

  • sunchick

And in related news, I discovered this magical invention called the DVR which ensures I never have to listen to Mary’s cackling and/or nonsensical babbling.

Seriously though, I wish they’d bring back the rotating judge because neither Mary nor Shankers are gonna be willing to be the fly in Nigel’s ointment, and that was the one purpose crazy Mia did serve on the panel that I’ll miss.

  • Miss Blue

    Thank God. Anyone but Mia.

  • SpenserJ

Bring on the Hot Tamale Train! I love Mary, and I’m glad she’s coming back (even if she does permanently damage my ear drums :).

  • sammy

I’ll be happy as long as Adam is back.

  • bootslacrosse

She’s the screamer right? Oh good lord. Keep your mute buttons ready.

  • MrDuffin

Mia started out OK but got weird. I’m for one am happy Mary is back.

  • luvadamlambert

    thank god

not watching tho–it was boring after alex

  • Truthiness

Good. I’m glad to have a ballroom expert on panel again.

  • lanter

Mary’s screaming irritated me, then I got a good look at Mia’s nasty streak. Between the two, I would take Mary any day.

Yep- Mia should go back to doing what she does best- choreographing- she’s too cranky to be a judge. Mary is a very fair judge but I must admit I will have the mute button ready to switch off her scream!!

  • sunchick

Mary is a very fair judge

Not really. She’s a NICER judge, but not necessarily any more fair than the rest of them. She picks her favorites and makes it obvious who they are, she’s just never a raving bitch about it like Mia can be. I remember back in season 2 when Neal and Sabra did a ballroom something or other together way at the end of the season, Mary raved about Sabra on and on like she was the second coming of Cyd Charisse and then offhandedly told Neil that he could stay on the hot tamale train and Neil said, very droll, “Uh, Mary? I was never actualy ON the train.” Priceless. LOL, gotta love Neil. Anyway, I do agree that a ballroom judge was needed and Mary fits the bill, but now the panel is without a contemporary expert. Neither Adam nor Nigel qualify. Six of one, half a dozen of another. Oh well. I still think the best set up was the Nigel/Mary/Mia/floating judge one back in the early seasons. Dan Karaty, where did you go? I even occasionally miss the whackadoo street expertise of Toni Basil.

Course, none of that really matters if they give me MORE WADE in any form. For that I’d let Mary build a shiny new hot tamale monorail.

Happy to hear Mary is returning.

YAY!!! I hope that means that Mia is being replaced and going back to choreographing. She is a much better choreographer than judge. I missed her (non-group) pieces last season and could do without her non-constructive, esoteric negativity. I have really been missing SYTYCD lately, especially since AI is kinda of a disappointment so far. So, Mary coming back is good news, indeed.
