Mario Lopez Stepped on Khloe Kardashian’s Lines in X Factor Chaos

Our “friends” at TMZ report that there was much confusion between Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez on the X Factor stage. Reportedly, Mario was reading his lines AND some of Khloe’s. Not that I’m complaining.

Mario Lopez couldn’t get enough of that teleprompter on “X Factor” this week, because he was reading Khloe Kardashian‘s lines and screwing her up in the process … but sources tell us it wasn’t his fault.

Sources connected with the show tell us Khloe got “really upset” because Mario jacked her lines several times, reading his lines and then reading some of hers … and screwing up her timing in the process.

Khloe forced the issue with producers after Thursday’s show, wondering aloud if he was doing it on purpose.  After a short discussion, it became clear to Khloe that Mario was on the up and up — there were glitches in the production that confused everyone and things got a little out of control during the live broadcast.

Now here’s what’s really interesting.  Khloe has heard what we’ve been saying — that producers were insane to make her read a teleprompter, because it robs her of her personality.  Fact is … it’s hard for a novice to read a prompter.

We’re told Khloe is open to leaving the hosting duties to Mario, and taking on the personality-driven interviews without a teleprompter.

Sounds like a good idea to us.

Sounds like a good idea to me too. She’s not a good host. Although, I’m not sure she’ll be much better as an interviewer, either.

Sorry, but she was horrible at interviewing the contestants, showing a lack of any genuine feeling in circumstances where she should have been showing compassion and feelings of consolation towards those who were eliminated. Interviewing (presumably off the teleprompter) is definitely NOT her strong suit.

  • yoshirox10

I did the morning news in high school, and am currently majoring in television and film.  It’s definitely hard to quickly get a hand on using a teleprompter.  Given that it was her first time hosting, I don’t think she was too horrible.  I’m willing to give her a few more weeks before I’m ready to completely give up on her.

What’s the possibility we’ll have another planted story by TMZ before Wed? Highly likely because it’s Simon and X Factor goes head to head with The Voice on Wed and Thurs this week, and Simon thinks if he can create the buzz, X Factor may not get waxed in the ratings. Nice try, Mr Cowell, but the Voice is going to mop the floor.

    Is it January yet?

  • Li Wright

Do you get the feeling that Kloe is Kelly Osborne?  Kelly’s mom has been pushing her in show business gigs, from hosting this and hosting that show, and going on the reality shows….and now Kloe mom is pushing her to be a network TV star.

  • Li Wright

Is anybody surprised that XF got a third season?  Would anyone know why, as the ratings are far from stellar.

  • Axxxel

Hope Khloe will learn fast… I wonder what Mario Lopez was like at his first hosting gig in front of live TV…

  • SullyD

I honestly didn’t think she was that bad. Of course Mario was better, and maybe Stevie Jones lowered my expectations, but I thought she was “bearable”.

  • Klaine

The latter’s a better idea. Let khloe be the viewer surrogate & take us behind scenes but shouldn’t read prompter stiffly. But she could spend the week w contestants, attend mentoring rehearsals & speak to them thru the process of their performance coming together. That would be diff than other shows.
But she should also realize she’s ecpendable

  • fuzzywuzzy

I honestly know very nothing about the Osbornes or the Kardashians, except that I’m not interested in both of these families from a “reality” POV.

  • Kirsten

    Thanks Mario!

  • Larc

Shows such as XF need hosts who are polished and fully capable from day 1.  Mario fits the bill, but Khloe doesn’t and probably never will.  Like the other talentless Kardashians, she’s famous only for being famous.

  • wkstrack

Khloe is a terrible host! I thought she would be ok because she has experience in radio. Kinda. But Mario needs to host it alone. He’s good. And maybe Khloe can just be backstage with the contestants or something. Or have the same type of “job” Christina Millian has on The Voice.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Pulleaseee! Khole sucks through and through! Be it a host or an intetviewer! Didn’t anyone notice how many times she kept snatching away the mike before the person she was interviewing finished a sentence??! It was bloody rude and unprofessional – and as someone posted, she seems completely devoid of genuine concern or sincerity for the contestants. Get her out Simon!
And I feel sorry for Simon- trying so desperately to change the formula for this show, but none of his new “additions” (Britney or Khloe) helped with ratings. It’s obvious it has something to do with the show’s concept or his ego. Lol.
The plus side this season was the Mario addition.

  • durbesque

Yes, yes, let Khloe do the backstage interviews.  I ff through Christina Milliani, and can do the same with Khloe.

  • Leandro

The money they spent with the Kardashian they could have hired more choreographers, vocal coaches, musicians, because every single performance looked unrehearsed to me. With good performances maybe there still some hope for the ratings.

  • usedtobelucy

‘I honestly know very little about the Osbornes or the Kardashians,

That’s good because there’s probably little to no “reality” involved in the celeb saga of either one. heh …

(Are we the first era to have wholly mythological families actually living among us and deriving their (usually plentiful) sustenance from our monetized attention? Just one more boon of having a mass media — not.)

  • usedtobelucy

You mean there was someone else on camera with her? Who let that happen? heh

Ironically, Mario was only hired at Fox’s insistence.  Simon wanted both hosts to be “non-traditional,” with no previous hosting experience.  Can you imagine Khloe hosting with someone of equal talent as herself?

It’s hard for me to feel sorry for Simon when so many of his instincts regarding this show have been flat-out wrong.  He may be a great A&R man in the music industry, but I think he is a lousy television producer.  And the ratings reflect that.

  • springboard2

I don’t feel sorry for Simon, he deserves what he gets, imo.

  • b_james

Maybe Mario was just trying to save Khloe from extra embarrassment.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Goodness i didn’t know that…. imagining Khloe with another green, eager newbie on screen trying to figure out the X factor madness will be pure series suicide. Thank goodness Fox had the brains to push for Mario – he kinda reminds me of a Latino Ryan Seacrest LOL.

  • Amy Beth

I’m pretty sure they weren’t paying you $1 million to learn how to use the prompter in H.S. If Khloe is at intern levels of skill, pay her at intern level.

  • girlygirltoo

I don’t get why any reality show needs 2 hosts. Remember Brian Dunkelman-Ryan Seacrest mess on S1 of Idol? The girl on The Voice who does the twitter updates and whatnot backstage is pretty useless as well.

What is wrong with just having Mario Lopez (who actually seemed quite comfortable last week) being the only host, and sending Khloe back to the rest of the Kardashians?

  • hcpoirot

Khloe need to went into some hosting school before she can try hosting a big live tv show. And she look cold and not compassionate . Simon should just hired Mario or Mario with Cat deeley.

Hosting a live show need a certain skill and you cannot just give it to some famous celeb that you hope can boost your rating.

  • Mateja Praznik

The original Idol incarnation, British Pop Idol, had two hosts, Ant and Dec.

They are still working together – they host Simon’s Britain’s Got Talent, Simon’s Red Or Black and I’m a Velebrity, Get Me Out of Here!

There is no reason for two hosts format not to work, they just need hosts with a lot of chemistry.

  • fuzzywuzzy

lol I agree which is why I put “reality” in quotes. ;)

  • Reflects On Life

Khloe sucks harder at interviewing than at hosting IMO.  Have you noticed how she pulls the mike away from a contestant while they are still mid-way answering her question??  Highly entertaining, makes me ROFL at her it’s-all-about-me-ness, but doesn’t help me connect with the contestant.

At least as a host she has some personality.  But don’t make her read a teleprompter.  Ever again.  Even if she can master it with practice, what’s the point?  She’ll never be as smooth as Mario or Seacrest.  She shines more at being the viewer surrogate and asking the awkward questions we wish we could.

  • kmd23

Khloe has no talent as a host or as an interviewer. She is awful. Ridiculous that Simon hired her just because she was another talentless Kardashian.  It just shows his poor judgment.

  • OffLeash

Why FOX renewed this mess of a show for a third season is a mystery to me. Not only are the ratings far below expectations, but they didn’t even pick up with the live shows and kept falling instead. FOX’s other programs must be in bad shape if they think XF is worth continuing investing in it.

  • jdanton2

I think the talent is more interesting than some of what makes the final 12 on Idol.

  • blackberryharvest

I guess if you find rap more interesting, but idol still finds the more talented contestants.

  • Lexee234

Watching Khloe host is painful. Painful I tell ya. And forget interviewing. Am I the only one who noticed her barely finish one interview without turning her attention to the next person and completely ignoring the previous interviewee *who was still answering her question*? And I’m sure I saw her push one interviewee out of the way when another showed up. Mario needs to host this show himself or it’s going to die a slow death…….again.

  • geekygirl

Lol, MJ, couldn’t agree more.  Still say she is Sadie from Awkward.  Her interviews would be, “ok, now let’s talk about me…”
    You’re welcome….

  • Leandro

I think it too, but the show, so far, isn’t helping these talents to shine. Wednesday was a hot mess for almost everyone, even the Sonenplant wasn’t good. Nobody stood out Thusrday too. Diamond was the best and not too good. They all seem very different from what we saw previously during auditions, bootcamp and judge’s house. Except for Paige, who still a bad singer as always.

  • Kesia Monteith

Well, I see your side on that note, but I don’t think that either show has more talented or interesting contestants, as they provide more of a preference of what their target demo likes.

  • girlygirltoo

well none of the US singing competition shows have managed to find 2 hosts with any chemistry. So they’d be better off just using 1. It’s worked just fine for Idol for the past 10 years.

  • Nedsdag

It’s too bad Mario couldn’t step on Khloe’s mouth to shut her up.

Mario has hosted beauty contests and ABDC and was a runner-up on Dancing With the Stars. He has enough star quality to host the show alone.

I still don’t get Khloe (sorry, Kardashian fans). If they wanted a reality star with an attitude to co-host, NeNe Leakes of Real Housewives of Atlanta was available.

Oh, wait! NeNe’s not available? Darn it! (sarcasm) I guess we’re stuck with Mrs. Odom then.

  • sue

Mario was talking really fast at the end of the show last week and I was like Khloe probably forgot to speak or something. lols  PLEASE SIMON get rid of Khloe, she is terrible!!!!

  • MargieIdol

Eh, they should just give the hosting job to Jim Cantiello.

  • Axxxel

Jim is more for the aftermath eerrr… recaps…

  • HKfan

Ant and Dec were working together long before Popidol, they used to be in a kids show together when they were about 12/13 called Byker Grove….I remember watching it, always thought Dec was cute. They also sang together for a while as PJ and Duncan, their characters from the show, made a couple of albums and even had a no1 song in Germany.
