Mariah Carey is upset that Idol producers leaked the Nicki Minaj fight footage to TMZ. Via The Huffington Post

Mariah Carey isn’t upset that things got heated between Nicki Minaj and her on the set of “American Idol,” but she is upset that a tape of the incident was leaked to the media.

“Mariah has been in the business for a long time and has seen it all but never has she had anything leaked from a closed set,” a friend of Carey said. “The fact that the producers are not searching to find out how this footage and audio got leaked tells you who was behind it.”

Welcome to Reality TV Mariah! TMZ reports there was a photo shoot in Baton Rouge yesterday. Since nobody is dead today, I’m assuming everybody left their guns at home.

All these stories do is make Idol come off as pathetic and desperate for any kind of publicity, no matter how trashy or stupid. It’s sad, and makes pretty much everyone connected with the show look bad.

Mariah isn’t letting this go. Too much was said and in one of those statements, she said Nicki didn’t apologize. (Cold day in Hades that Nicki will apologize so they will not be friends any time soon.) So, Mariah may play nice for the cameras, but she’s not done by a longshot. Even if they make it through the season, its not over.

I think the tape and all the transcripts posted every where make it hard for anyone with an ego to back down.

American Idol isn’t going to fire Nicky, especially not because of angry fans who can barely disguise the racial undertones of their beliefs.  The show wouldn’t have any grounds to fire her.

More importantly, AI hasn’t gotten this much press in a long time.  Yes the press is negative, but we are talking about a show that brought a contestant back last year just so they could cut him again in dramatic fashion a few weeks later.  I always said that Nigel and company were upset that Jermaine’s elimination didn’t cause more of a ripple in the media, or result in the ratings increasing.

Your comments make it sound like Mariah is 12 years old.  Based on what you’ve said, it’s not about having an ego, it’s about being childish.  Wanting to be the only woman on the panel is pathetic.

They all have egos- welcome to Hollywood! :)

Wanting to be the only woman on a panel isn’t pathetic, it’s smart thinking for a seasoned Diva. Mariah has been around long enough and worked with the truly big names often enough to know how things generally end up working out, she’s seen it all and then some. Mariah didn’t get what she wanted, but she wasn’t childish or pathetic for wanting a different set up.

Divas don’t like when their “star status” is challenged, and in this case, there are three Divas who are vying for control. It will probably only get worse, as I can’t see any of these three backing down. In the long run, this isn’t going to help Idol.

Wanting to be the only woman on a panel isn’t pathetic, it’s smart thinking for a seasoned Diva.

Because it’s smart to make sure the world sees your major qualification as “being female” rather than your incredible history of worldwide #1 hits, your extraordinary range, your amazing vocal phrasing, your gutsiness in trying new approaches as the music industry changes, your knowledge of singing technique, and your ability to express yourself cogently?

    Okay, then.

I’ve been thinking and trying to piece together this nagging annoyance I have for Mariah.. then it occurred to me. She reminds me of the “mean girls” in my daughter’s school. The ones that try to control everything and everyone around them. Attempting to look cute and classy, while behind the scenes are manipulative and brutish. All the adults and teachers see is a well mannered, polite girl and as soon as their backs are turned the claws come out as they try to climb to the top of the heap. I think I’ll take Nicki any day. At least, what you see is what you get.

And this outlook is still pathetic.  So, Mariah knows that the industry isn’t being run by women, so she’d rather accept the status quo, and perpetuate stereotypes, instead of trying to change things.  It’s not question that she and Nicki would have been the leaders on the panel, and they could have shown how intelligent they are about the industry, but instead, both deciding to fall back on the perception that women can’t work together.

This is sad, since they are on a show that believes that it is okay for the male contestants to be viewed as real artists, who have unique personalities, while boiling the female contestants down to how they look, and their ability to wear heels.

The Nikkis of the schoolyard, with their uncontrolled rages and overly aggressive reactions wouldn’t make for a pleasant and safe school setting either. Sure, you may “know” that the outwardly aggressive person is angry and upset because they are screaming at you to “eat shit or die” or yelling that “your mother is a whore” in the hallways of the school, but that doesn’t make it any better.

I never said that Diva=a female. I have referred to Nigel as one of the three Divas in two of my posts in this thread, so you are putting words in my mouth.

    Okay, then?

  • koshka

IMO I would say its marginally better. At least you know what you are up against and deal with the threats are head on. Knifing behavior is best left for politics. ;)

This outlook is smart. You think it is pathetic, I think it is smart to look at how things usually work. We will have to agree to disagree on this and our opinions on Mariah’s wishes to be the only woman on the panel, IF that is even true. The only thing we know that is true at this point is what was captured on video and leaked to TMZ, and that was Nicki’s verbal attack. Oh, and the twitter rant from Nicki’s account is from Nicki.

What else is new about Idol? 19E and Idol PTB have NEVER really cared about anything except the dollars they generate. They’ve IMO never cared about how they went about getting their dollars either. They have shown that they  will lie, cheat, manipulate, plant stories and use anything or anybody to get buzz and publicity – for AMERICAN IDOL.

They all – from Nigel to Mariah to Randy to Keith and even Nicky know how the game is played. I do think they went a bit off script the last day or two, but trust and believe… in the world they live in, it’s all good because it’s getting people TALKING and buzzing about Idol again – and Nicki and Mariah especially. It would be nice if it were organic and buzz being generated by the contestants… these are early days, the contestants will have their opportunity to shine when the time comes. Right now,  they are hellbent on keeping the Idol name and brand on the lips of the movers and shakers in the press and media, and in its fans – old, casual, new.

Nicki ain’t goin’ nowhere, nor is Mariah, or anybody on that judges panel. These people don’t care how they are looking, or what you or I or we think about them or their tactics. As long as the money keeps flowing, and the ratings don’t take too big of a dive, it’s gonna be ‘business as usual’ in the Idol backrooms. I don’t think the fun and games are over yet, so strap yourselves in – gonna be a helluva ride.

It’s not question that she and Nicki would have been the leaders on the panel, and they could have shown how intelligent they are about the industry, but instead, both deciding to fall back on the perception that women can’t work together.

Reality: Most women can work together. Most men can work together. But, there are some from both sexes who cannot because they are, in fact, prone to making life as difficult as possible for those around them to get what they want. I think men and women in show biz are worse about this than most.  From day 1, I was sure this would be the case with both Nicki and Mariah. Of course, that was met with the “OMG. How sexist. How dare you stereotype!” responses. But, there are plenty of horror stories about Mariah being a royal pain in the arse and being difficult to work with.  If you read Nicki’s twitter, you see she’s a strong, “I’m not taking crap from anyone’ type.  That’s a good thing unless you’re idea of not taking crap is to verbally bully others.  I have a brother in law who does what Nicki did in the video clip. When he disagrees with someone or is angry, he just shouts and talks over everyone else in the room, not letting anyone get a word in, until we all finally do as Keith did, and put our hands in the air in submission. There’s no other way to deal with people who behave like that.  Frankly, I think both women come off horribly obnoxious in all this, and neither is someone that I would care to know in real life.  Mariah is passive-aggressive with her “poor me” routine. Spreading the rumor that Nicki threatened her physical harm is school-yard gossip used by an adult to come out on top.  Nicki is the kind of annoying childish person who makes me roll my eyes.  ”Oh no! You will NOT patronize me! Oh NO I will not take it!  Blah-blah-blah and blah-BLAH-BLAH-BLAH!.” Shut up and say something of value here. Shouting your way through a conversation is immature and a way of bullying everyone else into backing down.  Right now, I’m not feeling great about Idol this coming season.

“ Wanting to be the only woman on the panel is pathetic.”

I am catching up but I never said that Mariah wanted to be the only woman on the panel.  I think the story is being re-written that somehow the only reason Nikki will get kicked off is this woman vs. woman argument.

I said, she will not take being publicly dissed.  The same goes for men.  Do you think Simon would have taken that kind of verbal assault?  Or P Diddy, Kanye, or basically any man in a powerful position?  Its not gender based.  It happens in sports, politics, business.  I’d even go further and say Nicki would not have even tried to go off on Simon.  She would have sat there listening to his boring stories about how many stars he has made, how much better the English are, watch him saunter in late wearing a shirt 5 sizes too small, and kept her mouth shut.  Women get catty with other women.
