X Factor alum, Marcus Canty, releases his second single, and this time around, he moved away from the Urban AC of his first single, into rhythmic territory.

On “In & Out”, Marcus gets a little help from rapper, Wale, who opens the track and is featured on a verse. It’s a solid track.

Check out the track below.

This is really good! LA is not resting till he gets his guys out of the door! I love that he’s still working them and trying everything. IMO, he knew what exactly he wanted in artists he’d sign to his label and knows their capabilities before he picked those three guys for his team – Chris, Marcus and Astro.
I take that as someone who would work hard to establish them. He wasn’t obliged to sign them so it’s a really good sign for these guys. They all have great potential and I don’t think LA is going to give up trying. Great Job so far!

Not to belabor the point, but look at KIIS playlist, a lot of the rap artists on that list are not on the top 40 chart, and never will be.  Most of the stations in your area lean heavily rhythmic, so that why KIIS does too.  Z100 straddles the line more, because until two or three years ago, their main competition was a Hot AC station.  Now they are getting competition from a station that labels itself as pop, but is really a rhythmic, but even that station is adding more regular pop and Hot AC leaning songs in an effort to become the number one pop station in New York.

I’m just saying that Wale has never appeared on the two charts that you mention, so he doesn’t get a lot of airplay on those stations.

It’s been a while since Idol has given the music biz a global superstar
(and I doubt The Voice ever will), I think XFUS will produce the next
    one.

If the X Factor US does produce the next worldwide star, then I doubt it would be from Season 1. Lets not kid ourselves, the first season was poorly received by critics and fans(otherwise Simon wouldn’t have fired 3 people and promise an overhaul of the show). Marcus’ first single didn’t do that great, Chris Rene’s first single didn’t make a huge impact and 2nd single isn’t firing up the charts yet, Rachel Crow’s EP didn’t sell much at all and her single hasn’t done anything, Melanie is still being “locked up” and is Josh even signed? Like with idol, you have to get lucky.

That doesn’t mean Marcus won’t be able to cross over.  If the radio stations like the song, they’ll play it.  It’s definitely more Rhythmic than Urban AC.

Well, it wasn’t poorly received by me. I know I’m just one person, but I actually enjoyed it more than Idol and The Voice combined this year.

I did like 2011 Idol a tad more than 2011 X-Factor though, only because of Haley.

this is the direction i wanted him to take so i really like it. good job xfactor.

Agreed.  I wouldn’t rule out Top 40 play for this single.  It might be a long shot, but it could happen.

I’m lovin’ this single from Marcus!  I could definitely see this getting Urban and Rhythmic airplay.  I’m rooting for him.  His first single wasn’t bad at all but I like this one much better.

It’s definitely more Rhythmic than Urban AC.

Which is why it’s main format will be Urban, with some support from some Urban AC stations.

I think we’re getting into another semantics discussion.   As in what does Rhythmic vs. Urban mean?  Even I’m not entirely clear on that one.  I just know that in Los Angeles there is a TON of cross over on our Top 40, Rhythmic and Urban stations.  And a song like this one would fit on all of them no problem.

very chris brown esque, sounds like something he would release

Cool song! He was one of my favorites on X Factor. His voice wasn’t always perfect on the show but with material like this, it is perfect and he is really current. And he’s a good performer! I think and hope he will do well.

I always felt that him, Chris and Astro (speaking of whom, he did get signed, right?!) would be the eventual standouts. Hopefully Rachel and Melanie will be successful too!

I like him. He sounds great and I hope it does well.

you’d never here something like this from anybody from idol

You are correct, but not for lack of trying, there have been a few who auditioned but dont make it past Hollywood week. Or if they do they are quickly dispatched by the voters. When I saw him on the show I wasn’t wowed by his talent, yet glad he made it as far as he did. The song is a’right.

What about Stefano or Chris Richardson?

Tasia has some urban bangers, but I totally get what you’re saying.

Matta fact, Ledet’s fans were talking ish about Marcus at one time.
Idol produces amazing singers but too many of the show’s fans are old fogeys who are ALWAYS dissing urban music (yet Lambert’s lame techno pop is genius. LOL).

Given the state of today’s Urban/R&B music, I hope Marcus can break through. I’m old school and I don’t think Chris Brown holds a candle to the legends I listen to and still listen to on my iPod.
