Maks is back! You heard that right. After “retiring” from the ballroom dance floor in 2014, Maksim Chmerkovskiy will return as a pro to Dancing with the Stars season 23.

After touring the country with his brother Val this summer, Maks told US magazine, “Getting back into shape allowed me to entertain this idea. I am in the best shape of my life, so why not spend a few months with my brother and the cast members and have fun!”

The pro officially made the announcement on Good Morning America today (Aug 25). “The last 12 years, everything that happened in my life had some sort of relationship to the show,” he said. “I just wanted this to continue, the feeling, the positivity, so much love out there,”

“We’ve done that before for a bit of time,” Maksim said about once again competing with little brother Val on the show. “Rightfully so, I feel like he’s become the star of the show, and that’s not going to change. I’m just coming in to do my thing.”

“I’m just excited,” he continued. “The way it came together and the way I ended up on Dancing With the Stars as a pro this season is very different than any other season that I’ve done. I’m looking forward to that new way of being on the show.” Hm.

Previously, Maks wanted to return to DWTS as a judge, but that didn’t work out. I suppose after the big summer tour, he had some time on his hands (in other words, no big gigs in the pipeline) and he figured why not.

Maks is expecting his first child with fiancée and fellow pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd, and said about her pregnancy, “She’s doing amazing and getting bigger and the baby is kicking and it’s phenomenal.”

GMA has already announced eight additional pros for this season including:  Val Chmerkovskiy, Witney Carson, Sharna Burgess, Artem Chigvintsev, Lindsay Arnold, Allison Holker, Sasha Farber and Gleb Savchenko.

According to social media, Tony Dovolani and Emma Slater will also be dancing this season.

UPDATE: Tony Dovolani announced on Instagram that he would not be dancing this season.

UPDATE: Former Troupe Member and SYTYCD contestant, Jenna Johnson will turn pro this season!

Rumored celebrities signing up for season 23 include controversial Olympic swimmer, Ryan Lochte, reality star Amber Rose, Bachelorette, JoJo Fletcher and Disney star, Jake T. Austin.
