Ohhh! It’s a blood bath at Smash! Characters Dev, Ellis and Julia’s husband AND lover are leaving the show!  Now they need to send Julia’s kid off to boarding school, and we’ll be all set!

‘Smash’ scoop: Ellis and Dev are leaving the show! — EXCLUSIVE – Philandering fiancé Dev (Raza Jaffrey) and devious assistant Ellis (Jaime Cepero) will not be regulars in the show’s second season, sources say. It’s possible one or both actors could appear in an episode or two to wrap up their storylines, but that’s it. The plan is to have neither character as a recurring presence in the show’s new-and-improved second season.

UPDATE: Brian d’Arcy James (Debra Messing’s husband on the show) and Will Chase  (Debra’s lover) are leaving Smash too.

First, it seems the actors are being punished for bad writing and bad character development.

That said, I’m quite happy they axed Julia’s boring husband and her creepy stalker lover (made even creepier by the fact that Messing left her real-life husband for Will Chase).  That insane affair had to be one of the shows most senseless storylines.

I never had a huge problem with Ellis and Dev was one of my favorite characters (until the writers turned him into a weirdo).  Oh well.

It’s good they are making big changes though, cause the show’s got huge potential.

I’m conflicted about Karen and Derek getting together because she deserves better, but there is so much chemistry between them and they are so good looking together!

Derek can be such a sweetheart sometimes, but such an ass other times.  But I love watching him in his scenes with Karen!  :)

Interesting. Glad they are ditching the boring home stuff, and (hoping) zeroing in more on the theater world.

Megan has tons of “it” factor for me especially when she is in the role of stage performer. Closer call between Megan and Kat when they are acting in normal situations though the Megan/Ivy character seems more interesting. Until the end of the first season when they seemed to walk away from her, ugh.
