I had the pleasure of working with Liza when we restored her landmark television special ‘Liza With a Z’ at Showtime, and to see her artistry up close and personal is a thing to behold.”

Just reading that announcement shows what a gifted cast Smash has!  I am also excited!  Liza Minnelli is one of the most gifted artists in the business.  I thought we might have seen her on Glee this season.

Minnelli is one of the rare entertainers who has earned an Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award.

I believe Barbra Streisand and Rita Moreno have also won these four awards.  Is there anyone else you can think of?  It’s quite an honor.

An EGOT is the holy grail…something like only 10-11 peope have every won them thru the competitive process alone, and a couple of others have EGOT with an honorary award.  Other EGOTS –Richard Rogers, Helen Hayes, John Gielgud, Audrey Hepburn, Marvin Hamlisch, Mel Brooks,Mike Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg (yup), Scott Rudin, James Earl Jones, Trey Parker and Matt Stone (yup, the South Park Guys are EGOTS!).  Babs, Liza and JEJ are the “asterisked” EGOTs bc one of their awards was honorary rather than competitive…apparently some people take this shizz seriously, lol.

I adore Liza…they have such great guest stars for Smash this season.  This show has sooooo much potential.  Such an incredibly talented cast.  They just need to learn from their first season mistakes and not screw it up and the show can have a fantastic second season
