I do NOT get the love for Lil. Just don’t think she compares to some of the singers people are comparing her to. London, Tamyra, Fantasia, Melinda? She’s not even remotely in the same class vocally as Melinda and Fantasia. She seems like a sweetheart but I think even Vonzell was more marketable.

Not to sound like an old fussbudget, but R&B was my absolute favorite genre when I was a kid (Temptations, Supremes, Harold Melvin, Al Green, Smokey Robinson, et al.), but today it just doesnÃƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seem anybody does anything of the caliber of the old stuff.

BootStar, with the Motown tribute theme, Lil will have a chance to stand out. They all better get going on what song they will sing for this theme as I see it coming up early in the competition.

With about 5,000 songs (if all are available) to choose from, it is best if the contestant stays away from Top 10 songs and go for something a little less unknown – and then make it their own!

Good luck, Lil – Top 12 for sure.

Sob background story, diva belter voice, had tons of screen time and maybe pimp spot from the producer, she was a lock into top 12. And if all fail, te judges will definitely save her with wild card.

I don’t think Lil sings nearly as well as Syesha, LaToya, Jennifer, or Fantasia (and I’m not too fond of two of them), but I agree that she’ll probably make Top 5. She definitely seems to be the most pimped of the women this year, although they seem to like Jasmine and Taylor, too.

It’s going to be hard for me to warm up to her after she yelled that Whitney song at me. At this point, I’d almost put her in the same “LOUD” box with Von.

Lil is hard to call. She was good in her audition but since then they’ve cut her performances to focus on the glory note parts.We have yet to hear a whole song, so its unclear whether she can handle subtlety, nuance, interpretation, emotional connection, and can build to a climax. If she is a well rounded singer I bet she’ll go far because there is no one else like her to vote for this year, at least not that we’ve seen. So she may get a voting block all to herself. But if she’s not all that good, she could get outshined by another girl and have to rely on the wildcard round. We’ll see.

I caught Seal on Soundstage doing songs from his new album of covers, Soul, and he’s one of the few singers I think who can take those old songs, continue the myth, and make them fresh again. But he’s really old by Idol standards. If Lil can do something along those lines, though, she has a chance to make her mark, because Idol’s viewership is skewing older. I’m not sure she has the magic factor of a Fantasia or Jennifer Hudson, but she has the potential to be as good as Melinda Dolittle, although, personally, I’m not seeing it yet.

Latoya did nothing for me, to the point where I can’t even remember her. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, ‘Tasia and JHud could sang and were memorable. I don’t buy a lot of soul/R&B music today, but I love to watch it performed live. If there are others out there like me, I think Lil has a shot at the top 5.

I think Lil will wind up 3rd or 4th like so many female r&b singers before her–Syesha, Melinda, LaKisha, Vonzell, LaToya, Kimberley, Tamyra.

Season 5 was the only season without an R&B girl in 3rd or 4th place. Paris Bennett finished 5th. Although we did have an R&B boy finish 3rd… Elliott.

She is no doubt talented and I wish her well.

Personally, I dislike R&B so if she sticks to that, I won’t be voting for her.

I really like her personality- never warmed up to LaToya London, but so far the singing they’ve shown of her has been bombastic to say the least. I’m really looking forward to hearing her (and the others) live.

I’d agree she’s a lock for Top 12, and if she performs well, Top 4. I can’t see her winning though.

She’s good, but she’s very “been there, done that” as far as this show is concerned.

Depending on how the groups are stacked, it could be the first year we don’t get a “diva”.

She reminds me of Fantasia without the screaming and screeching. I kinda like Lil.

She was a favorite of mine in the auditions but she’s lost me with song selections. I think I liked her story and voice more than her singing style.

She seems to be in a good position to make the top 12, but once there she needs to step it up to last a long time. She is probably a lock unless she is in the same group as Megan Corkrey and Felicia Barton, in which she may have a hard time getting the 1 or 2 spots for females against them.
