What’s up with this season? So many finalists have tattoos. Siobhan, Lee, Mike, Crystal, Andrew … Why?

Urrgh. Enough with the tattoos. I happen to like the look of a clear patch of skin, while a few tattoos wouldn’t look too bad (and may look very nice if the design is good), too many can look really yucky.

I gotta say, I think Lee’s tattoos are pretty sexy. Just saying. But I am also looking at these pictures while listening to his Slumberland album. So as a fangirl I might be a little biased.

All I know is that I don’t want to have a job working in an old folks home 60 years from now. I guess I can understand a few meaningful tattoos, but Lee has progressed to the stage where it looks like he’s just doodling on his arms.

Tee hee…I think they look, um, refreshingly non-Hollywood-celebrity ish. I can’t help lol at some of their expressions. I’m sure they all really want to see a screening of Shrek more than say, rehearsing or catching up on sleep.

I love Casey’s boots but he needs to use some conditioner on his hair. And he needs to buy himself some new shirts now that he’s got a regular paycheck. Aaron looks like he styled his hair with an egg beater but I like his jacket. Siobahn is cute and eclectic as ever. I love her boots. Crystal looks as much like the Earth goddess as ever, and I love her boots. Mike looks like somebody’s uncle trying to be hip. Lee looks like the valet parking dude. Ryan looks studiously Hollywood-trying-not-to-look-Hollywood.

No comment on the tats. I don’t have any personally but it’s only because I haven’t figured out what kind of tattoo I want to live with for the rest of my life.

Ha! me too, not listening to it right now but Slumberland is pretty awesome. Lee’s tree tattoo is the same as the art work for this cd. Did the Idol stylist not get a hold of them before they left for this premiere? If not the should have. Lee needs tighter pants or jeans that fit. Casey needs a new shirt and Bon needs to not dress like she is about to hit the stage.

Kirsten you beat me to it. I have to wonder if these idols getting all this “ink” ever think about the fact that one day they’ll be old and their “ink” will be sagging in places they hadn’t even though about. I see it every summer at the beach… blech. Lee’s arms look like my daughter’s after she plays with her stamps.

And yes, stylists where art thou??? Lee’s pants are too big. Casey’s shirt is too tight ( somehow that doesn’t bother me :)) and Sib looks like she rummaged through someone’s goodwill donations to put her outfit together.

I don’t mind Lee’s voice, but I don’t see how people find him attractive(sorry Seriously!). He has really droopy eyes and his tattoos are hideous. I don’t mind some tattoos, I like most of Cook’s(not the eye one), and I even found Megan Joy’s to be ok. Lee’s look like he took a pen and drew on his arm. I think it’s the fact that he just has the black coloring. I don’t find Casey attractive either. This has been the least attractive group of contestants ever. Although i do think Crystal is beautiful. Actually all of the girls were gorgeous this year!

There was a “have a guitar? get a tattoo free” sale….I’m sure Siobhan just hasn’t busted hers out yet.

I don’t think any of the guys are attractive this year and I don’t really care for their voices either.

I really dislike tats – I don’t understand why someone would permanently deface their skin. Are they seriously going to think those are cool when they’re 50? Is the subject matter of the tats going to continue to be relevant to them when they grow older? I just don’t get it?? It’s not like you can wash it off.

Exactly. That’s why he’s one of my faves now. Actually, the only person I kinda don’t care much for in this top 6 is Michael, and even then I like him. But Lee kinda sneaked behind the radar for me, I didn’t really appreciate him at first and I dogged him heavily mostly because of the Kris Allen comparisons, but I would totally be satisfied with a Crystal/Lee finale. I think it would be awesome if he started going by Leon >_>. Leon James DeWyze sounds kinda monarchical. Just think he should get some workout tips from Kris Allen and I think I’d have a mancrush. Wow, that’s probably not the best thing for me to say >_>.

He has a few flaws, but most of which I can pass now. The only thing I can’t really get past is how every other word of his sentence is “You know…” Pretty nervous habit and I hope he gets rid of it by tour. The overly constipated notes don’t bug me as much.

Yes, it’s a HUGE ugly black sunflower. I never noticed the one on her hand and wrist until I saw it in the Grove pictures. I wish she would stop inking her beautiful skin.

LOL, I totally agree. He always looks so sheepish. The Gawker recaps have totally captured this vibe for me – he’s everybody’s cousin Phil! I laugh every week when I read about how “Cousin Phil” is doing in the competition:

Personally I would never get a tattoo, but if the subject matter of one means a lot to the person, I tend to not mind them. Cook’s AC tattoo will always mean something to him, as well as his poem one. My roommate just got a tattoo of her grandmother’s name, and it is really beautiful. It just depends if you are getting one for meaning or getting one just for the hell of it.

Count me in as someone who hates tattoos. To me they look like those velvet paintings for the skin.

AndreaH, I got my first tattoo when I was 23, and I’m now 44… closing in on that mysterious “50″ you alluded to :) Yes, all my tattoos (I have 4) have meaning to me and are still relevant, as they each represent important moments in my life. I’m still slim and fit and have a decent physique (imo) — I’m not some wrinkled old hag with sagging skin and faded blue splotches of ink! All my tattoos have a lot of colour in them, and I’ve kept them all touched up over the years so they haven’t faded or become blurry. It’s really just personal preference — I don’t really care if anyone thinks they “look good” or not, they’re important to me. I would never force anyone to get one, but still have plans for two or three more before I pass into the great beyond of old fogies with ink.

I think Lee’s absolutely adorable on the live shows, but I don’t think he looks as good in pictures. And never mind the tattoos … he needs to find a stylist to help him get clothes that fit him. I was so happy to see a nice button-down shirt for last week, but now he needs to find pants that actually fit him and aren’t faded jeans. It can’t be that hard! I really want him to make it to the finale, but he needs a clothing makeover (and I prefer him without any facial hair, but that’s just me!). :)

I like the green and yellow. It’s the only colour in all of those pictures! It’s quite depressing really.

Lee’s Tattoo is of the Chicago City flag. It is a fairly common tat amongst people that grew up and or lived in the city for a long time.

Er I think Lee’s a sweetie but not in a handsome knock your socks off kinda way… He looks so sleepy in the above picture! I think Casey’s way more of a hearthrob and would grow all swimfan kinds of crazys on him lol! But on their voices perspective.. I like both. But somehow after People get ready, I don’t see the need for competition anymore. This is Crystal’s crown for sure.

Siobhan looks fine in what she is wearing . she is creative in both singing and fashion . Lee looks like he borrowed one of Simon’s shirts.

I have worked in Convalescent Hospitals for years, and most of the folks are at or over 80. Women of their generation didn’t really tattoo, but many of the men did, particularily those in the military. These folks just love it when they are approached regarding the meaning behind their tats. They go on and on, can remember where they were when they got which one, who it was for, how many guys were with them, what the artist looked like, etc. So, yeah, I’d say for lots of folks they are like a snapshot of a memory
and not sorry they got them.
I like the single-coloured tatts better than the really colourful ones.
I’m not a fan of the sleeve look; too many to appreciate any!

I really like Lee’s voice and do think he’s cute enough. I like Casey’s voice also and think he’s adorable. The girls I think are the cutest are Didi, Lacey, Katie, and Siobhan when her hair’s normal. As for tatt’s, I’m not a fan for them myself but can see the attraction.

After last week’s performance of The Boxer, with the good comments Lee got, he smiled. I mean, he really smiled – not that little half-smile w/ one side of his mouth turning up. He smiled enough to show he has dimples. And when he does that, he is handsome. Not knockout/ dreamy hottie, but definately handsome. We just don’t see that smile much.

Casey is good looking in the more traditional musician way, although blonds are not my thing.

I don’t care about tats anymore as they have become so common, but I do not like the “sleeve” tats on women, like Carly and Megan Joy had. I didn’t like that neck tat on Andrew.

I don’t get the Lee love. He’s overweight, fuggly, no personality and just a bland performer. I can’t see him representing AI if he wins this year. He’d have a nervous breakdown trying to sing the Anthem at different functions.

I’m from Chicago, and frequently go to clubs & festivals that host local live bands, including the ones Lee played at. I think Lee stands right up there with the best of them.

.I think Lee has a “droopy sleepy” look all the time and is average looking and vocals are good just not fantastic.Biased I not into his vocals and he reminds me of Elliott in looks and vocals. Thanks for answering a question I had about his pre idol music. I thought it was folk rock but wasn’t sure. That’s what it sounds like. His pre idol stuff is cool and right now I am loving his song Flower Child. I agree he sounds more like Dave Matthews or Kings of Leon to me. He sounds nothing like Cookie. I love Cookie, Lee and the other Idol rockers too. If only Lee had half the confidence that DC did on the idol stage. I can his confidence growing every week and I hope he makes the top 3 atleast and get a big old recording contract.

To be honest, that’s what I did at first. When he sang Casing Cars my exact thought was “If I can’t have another Cook then I’ll take him”. I then continued to root for him every week. Now my thoughts have changed. I bought his pre-idol albums and fell in love. I don’t think of him as a substitute. I think of him as a rocker but in a completely different way then DC. I love Beautiful People too. The lyrics don’t really bother me since I can be a bit of a potty mouth. To each their own though. Anyway, I just love him.

I’m laughing at the “overweight” and “unattractive” comments. He is defintely not overweight and he is quite attractive! Those eyes! Anyway, fantarding aside, I was a cook fan and a kris fan, now am a lee fan. I think they are all outstanding singers in their own way. I can’t compare cook and lee because they have a different style of singing. Lee though is just as good as those two, why do people always have to compare?

Thank you for posting this free download – I think it is a lovely example of Lee and his recording voice. Isn’t it great to not have to wait for months to get good quality recordings or the big “debut” album from the signed Idol?

I read the speculation about Lee and Bon dating or liking each other at AI.com. Why not? I think they look good together. I know theres tons of his and her fans that are not digging it but I don’t have a problem with it. I don’t think it would be a good idea to publicize the fact until maybe after the tour though for both their sakes, IF they do have something going on.

There’s always a crush story, but it doesn’t ever seem to be true. I think they’re around each other so much, they become brother and sister. That’s my guess. I mean, I have photos of my male friends holding my hand like we’ve been dating forever, but what you can’t see is the wife or girlfriend holding his OTHER hand! LOL!

Siobhan could vanish right off the planet before I’d notice at this point, but I applaud her attempt to lead teenagers away from Forever21 to the local Goodwill. Thrifting is an awesome recycling trick. That said, I think all her clothes make me think of Ally Sheedy in Breakfast Club. Weird for the sake of weird.

To tattoo haters, not all of them are neon skulls with flames and snakes behind them. I know plenty of people (not myself) who have tattoos with real meaning behind them that they’ll never regret. My friend just got a tattoo in honor of his brother who died recently. I doubt he’ll think that’s lame in 30 years.
