Last night (Jan 1) Lee DeWyze sang the National Anthem at the Bulls home opener against the Memphis Grizzlies in his hometown, Chicago. The Season 9 American Idol winner performed a really solid, straightforward version of the anthem. Check it out below.

Lee tweeted after the game, “Singing the anthem was great,had a good time with @jonnawalsh and my parents. Bulls kicked ass! Happy New Year everyone”

    Lee easily has the range, with a nice strong low register.  I realize now that I was listening almost entirely to his melisma, hoping that he would not do anything in really bad taste, and he didn’t.  However, he is not as comfortable and organic with it as some others are.

    That was a very nice, simple, and straightforward version of the NA by Lee.  I agree that no frills are needed.  He didn’t sound nervous if indeed he was.  Good job Lee.

    That is eerie as hell. I was just thinking about posting in the other thread that Lee should go the DMB route, grab some killer progressive Rock/Jazz/Bluegrass musicians and go for it. His voice and vibe is perfect for that kind of thing and it SELLS like crazy.

    I thought about mentioning it also in the “Lee Dewyze still deciding on a label for spring release” … but I thought country music commenters
    might misunderstand it like they did with Jason Adean and Keith Urban ref.
    It would be a great comment – progressive Rock/Jazz/Bluegrass

    I think Progressive Bluegrass would go over a lot of peoples head but living close to Charlottesville whre DMB got his start, I will attest to the fact that it exists.
