What a Christmas treat!! Glad that VH1 made them available today to keep the buzz going while Lee gets a Christmas break from the promo traveling. :)

Wow! Lee sounded amazing! I’m glad he sang Walk Away to mix things up. Diggin the plaid! He was having a very good hair day too lol!

  • ItsMyT1me

I love the emotion with which Lee sings these songs. He’s in a room full of people but it’s like he’s in a world of his own. Great cover of Walk Away. Nice acoustic versions of three of his originals.

  • AIaddict

IMO, RCA would be crazy not to keep him. He’s a really good songwriter, singer and musician. I dont know the exact numbers for Sweet Serendipity but last I heard it was moving up the charts. Can’t wait to see what the next single will be. I love all these videos. Lee looks and sounds wonderful. He just keeps getting more and more comfy on stage. These acoustic performances are really nice and I know Lee is loving it but I am ready for him to hit the road on his very own tour with his full band. Of course, opening for other bands would be good for him too to get more exposure. So if RCA will give him time Lee will gain more fans and sell more cds when he starts touring.

I’ve listened to each one of his songs dozens of times and I never get tired of them. I am amazed at how he can continually change them up, too. His voice is just beautiful.

kvwicks13, I’m diggin’ the plaid too!

I like what Lee said about writing his songs so that they could be performed acoustically as well as with his full band.
He is so good at conveying emotion when he sings. His voice sounds gorgeous; no wonder he got standing ovations at all the concerts he sang at this month with other artists such as Train.
Pat Monahan said at one of the concerts that when he sang “flat like an Idol singer,” he didn’t mean Lee DeWyze. :) I remember last year people were debating whether he meant “Idol” or “idle” singer. I think with that remark, he pretty much answered that question.
I think all the hard work Lee has put in with the many acoustic concerts he has done for radio stations is starting to pay off. Last weekend, eight new stations, some in big markets like Denver and San Francisco, played Sweet Serendipity for the first time.

  • girlygirl

Is VH1 going to play any of these on their station, or are they just going to be posted online?

Im not sure anyone know if Crystal’s were just online?

  • tripp_ncwy

When was the last time Lee performed with his full band? It usually takes a while for a band to actually gel musically and it doesn’t seem like his band performed together too often.

  • kvwicks13

He has been doing the acoustic concerts with just Lincoln. They taped the Disney Christmas day show with the full band. I think that was the last one. And, of course, during the talk shows performances the full band performed.

  • cristististi

The last time he performed with the full band was Dec. 4th for the Disney Christmas Parade taping.

Hello Lee Dewyze fans. You know, I did not get a good impression of Lee from his performances on AI, but these VH1 songs are really good.

These live versions seem to be differnt from the album versions. It is unfortunate that some idol winners do not yet have a firm belief in what they are as a singer and they let the “management” make too many decisions that may or may not be in their best interest as an artist. That’s just my opinion because Lee live is very differnt from Lee the recorded version.

If you guys take offense to this opinion, only know that as an Adam fan, I have a similiar opinion on some of his Adam’s works.

  • Landmd

No offense taken readon I understand what you are saying! I love Lee’s album, I also love him live he changes the songs each time he sings them live and I love it all!!

  • superfudge

    He’s terrible. <3

  • tripp_ncwy

So, Lee has yet to do a performance with the full band in a concert setting other than the radio show in NYC b4 his album release. That’s where I am really looking forward to see how Lee performs.

Thank you for giving his vh1 videos a chance, readon! No offense taken! I just wanted to say I really do believe Lee does know who he is as a musician. He has 2 pre-ai albums under his belt and has been working at this for awhile. If Lee was younger and hadn’t found his ‘sound’ I would agree with the above quote from you. It seems like younger contestants from AI have suffered from an identity crisis. It’s unfortunate but at least they are given a platform to learn and gain fans.

Anyways, another wonderful performance from Lee and Lincoln! I love how they’re sharing clothes now, it’s adorable lol.

  • Yvonne13

Readon, thanks for stopping by to share your opinion. I do wonder how much “say” Idols are given in how their albums are recorded. I wonder why “management” hasn’t learned its lesson after 9 seasons? Basically, I like the songs on Live it Up. I prefer them live, but can listen to them recorded, even though some of the “production value” on the recorded album is a little questionable for some songs. But, I like the music enough and want to support Lee, so I bought the album. For some Idols, I haven’t liked the basic music enough to even buy the CD.

Whatever “superfudge”. Your entitled to your opinion, but as a fan of Lee’s, I think he looks great, comfortable and always sounds amazing when he plays acoustic sets. Peace:)

  • MonochromaticFriend

On the album’s sound, I think Lee & his label team made some very smart choices. There’s a lot of “bright” sounding, radio-friendly production, and I think the overall vibe of the record is well suited to a younger audience and may be attractive to an older audience as well. I really love acoustic Lee, but an album full of slow, slightly mournful acoustic numbers maybe wouldn’t have been the smartest commercial choice.

To the topic on hand…I love these performances.

I agree with you Yvonne13. I love Lee acoustic, and these VH1 videos are some of the best yet. (Walk Away was so beautiful, and I love SS acoustic, too.) However the recorded versions are upbeat and very easy to listen to, also, and the songs have good hooks. His radio adds have slowly and steadily been picking up, which I think will continue as SS catches on. The recorded version is very radio friendly.

Poor Lee has taken a lot of beating up from the press (and bloggers on this site!) since winning Idol, but I have to say, I think he’s a great singer with a very unique style. I love it. I think he will find his niche for a solid career in the music business. He certainly has the drive.

RCA couldn’t care less whether or not Lee is a “really good songwriter, singer and musician.” At the end of the day when deciding if they are going to keep him or drop him they are going to look at the sales. Regarding single sales, the numbers have been low enough that there have been no recent reportings from Brian, but the last total was 44k two weeks ago. To date it has most likely sold less than 50k. Combine that with low album sales and the chances of Lee staying with RCA is not looking too good right now. He’ll still have a career in music if that happens so I guess it’s not the end of the world, but don’t be surprised if Lee’s being “really good” doesn’t convince RCA to keep him.

  • ItsMyT1me

It is a very different market today than even one year ago and way different than two years ago. Records sales have been dropping by double digit numbers every year for at least 4 years now. (I actually have those stats but they’re at home and I’m not.) Anyway the point is that you can’t hold up examples of sales from previous idols and previous years. You’ve got to look at today’s market, throw away the statistical outliers and then form your opinions. Looking at similar artists with releases this year with whom you can compare would include Ryan Star who has sold less in 6 months. His label is not dropping him. Carly’s WATF sold less and they are getting a second album. Jason Castro sold less and got a second album. Now lets talk about those VH1 videos! Spot on Lee. Best of luck to a hard working and talented artist.

I agree. His songwriting is uneven (he’s young) but his sound/style is solid, unique, and really cool. I look forward to years of enjoying his talent, regardless of what label is distributing it for him.

He truly shines as a live performer, but there is a lot to love in LIU…especially the five songs in the middle. They’re killer. Being an optimist at heart, I like to think his career will mirror his arc on Idol: a slow-burning rise.

  • artemis

I’m happy Lee’s sales have picked up this week! His single has risen steadily on the HAC chart and could take off in the new year-his AI aren’t large enough yet to really boost sales.RCA got first pick after the finale and they chose Lee to sign, knowing all about the smaller fanbase, lower vote totals and ratings, etc, so they must think he has potential. So do I!

  • Landmd

Good Morning everyone!! Had to come watch these video’s again! Great to see sales increase for Live it up this morning!

  • Yvonne13

Poster, as usual, you take the words right out of my mouth, LOL!

  • Yvonne13

Oh, and Artemis, you raise excellent points about RCA’s foresight in spite of the issues mentioned. Maybe it’s all about a “career” instead of a “flash in the pan” – for once!

  • MonochromaticFriend

@ComeBack2Me, the reasons the single hasn’t sold is a) his fanbase isn’t large enough/fanatic enough to buy 100k+ copies before the album dropped and b) there simply hasn’t been enough radio play to sell the song.

The inner workings of radio are still a mystery to me, but if SS continues to move up the HAC chart and gets some major market adds in the new year, that may be a sign that RCA and 19 are still supporting this record. If eventually there’s a pop (pop/CHR??) add date to SS and some real movement there, I’d say that a very good sign they haven’t yet given up on the record. Just a uninformed opinion though.

  • Weebs787

I’ll just say, I agree and think it’s far to early to say whether or not he’s a complete failure like so many people want to label him as. It’s a slow burn so far, yes, but 1) SS hasn’t hit a large enough audience yet to really show any life in terms of sales (it needs bigger markets to add and play the song, some of them have just started playing the song this week, so hopefully when the freeze ends and the New Year rolls around, they will add it. A push to CHR would help too, but I don’t see that as a lock regardless of how well the single does on HAC) and 2) There are a few songs like wjmtv said that have a ton of potential to break out (IMO, YMMV of course). We just don’t know yet. Taylor Swift sold the same amount of her first CD in its first week and look at her now. It takes one song, one appearance, one anything to break out and become a superstar. Am I saying that’s 100% gonna happen with Lee, no, I’m not a future predictor like everyone else on this blog. But it certainly is a possibility and I can certainly hope that it does.

Come back in a year and then we can talk about how successful he is. Until then, I’ll enjoy every acoustic performance he has, because they truly are all amazing. :)

  • heat914

    Those performances were amazing…wow :)

  • Brook52

Just love these songs and videos. What a great idea to post these on VH1! Hope that they add BLY and BB. I think the more these live performances get exposure the more people will connect with Lee’s music.

  • Hase

    I can’t watch the videos! -_-’ What a shame.

  • tigervixxxen

It was definitely a treat to watch these videos! I’m glad VH1 finally posted them. They are giving the videos a good bit of love on the front page of VH1.

  • heat914

I just saw that Tigervixxxen and was coming over here to post that but got pulled into watching all the videos again. I can’t believe how he makes every song sound a little different every time he sings it….Lee fans will never be bored…that’s for sure :)

  • Brook52

Listening to the videos…again! Thanks MJ for letting us know that these existed on VH1. They sound sensational.

  • Yvonne13

I just want Lee to be with a label that does the right thing for him. Major or indie – it doesn’t matter!

  • rivermaya

Super uber late in posting. Found out about Lee’s VH1 performance through Brook52 (thanks btw) on the LDB thread…..and I have to say, he sounded GREAT!!!!

Walk away was sang with so much passion and really loving the slow acoustic SS.

    Ditto to that!
