I’ve always loved this song, they play it a lot on the Alt. Rock station I listen to.  Why can’t any of the Idols put out dark, sad music like this?  They are always pushed to put out poppy, fun songs all the time, as if that’s the only thing that people want to hear.

    Nice job Lee.

I wondered what Lee’s cover of this song would be like.  I’ve always liked “Creep”, but now I LOVE this version! He continues to show his appreciation for his fans as this is a song that we’ve asked him to cover.  Great job vocally & just as importantly, great way to appreciate those who appreciate him!!! :)

I just can’t. Damn it – now we will never get DC to re do his cover from 2004 with Axium. (Language Alert – NSFW)

Not that there was much chance of it anyway. The “Progression” thing. We’ve been asking for four years. Frustrating.

But good for Lee’s fans…I’m sure they appreciate him doing this.

Hmmm….I just listened to this Creep cover by David Cook that you posted.  I like David but sorry, Lee’s cover was way better.  Waaaaay better. And I’m not even really a fan of Lee. I just like this song a lot.

  • Incipit

Thirdtime, that’s gonna be a matter of subjective taste, so you have no reason to apologize. It’s all good.

David did that cover eight years ago – his vocals and his interpretation skills have matured so much since then. I would just have loved to have an opportunity to hear what it would sound like now – I cast no shade on Lee’s version.

Love it! Creep has been one of my all time favorite songs since it came out in the 90’s. I remember in one of Lee’s interviews during their Idol tour, he was asked, if he could add 1 more song to his 5-song set, what would it be? His answer was Creep (I think he started singing Creep as an answer to the question, but it was an online interview without video). That was 2 years ago and I’ve been waiting for him to sing Creep since then. I’m glad someone else remembered and asked him about this cover.

I love both Lee and David and I love both their versions of Creep. For me it’s hard to compare – they covered the song in the style that fits them best – Lee with just him and his acoustic guitar, David with his full band. If Lee had the chance to sing this during the Idol tour when he had a full rock band to back him up, it would’ve been easier to compare with DC’s.

This is haunting and beautiful-Lee does angst so well.

Fans did ask him to do this song, after he asked on twitter what cover we’d like him to do. I appreciate the way he uses twitter to stay in touch with fans.

    Hauntingly beautiful Lee!!!

I like David Cook a lot, and I would like to hear him sing it again too.  His voice just doesn’t sound good with this song in that cover you posted, especially right after listening to Lee’s version.

Let’s keep this post on topic. No threadjacking please…

Most of the Lee fans I know, from concerts and twitter, are also fans of David Cook, or at least like him. Though their preferred genres differ, they are both intense singers who convey emotion really well.

  • wordnerdarchie

Nice haunting, bluesy version by Lee.  Love his interpretation.

Also love Cook’s full rock version.  It’s pretty impressive for a 20 year old.  He was still young and finding his sound.

Allison Iraheta does it very well, too.

Creep is a great song, always like hearing different musicians’ interpretation of it.

  • usedtobelucy

I love this song, but it’s covered so much that I wouldn’t be surprised to hear a version from the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

    I like Lee’s take.

  • suenigma

Yes, this is a beautiful bluesy, angsty cover by Lee. Love the hint of country twang too. A slowed down acoustic cover of a great song by a talented vocalist like Lee is almost always appealing. Lee is soooo insanely underated in the Idol universe. He may not have a mile long vocal range, but his tone and phrasing are very special.

Not gonna lie, I also adore Cook’s messy, angry rock version – his teenage band wasn’t very good here though, and the drummer was off the beat. LOL. But yeah, Cook personifies this song for me, even thru his Scott Stapp/Edie Vedder impersonation in the beginning. And his vocal runs during the run, run, run are a revelation. Still amazed it took Idol to “discover” him.

There’s an all-girl Belgian choir, Scala, who do an AMAZING version of Creep in conjunction with the Kolcny Brothers.  It’s worth checking out on YouTube.

    Yessssss….where’s my album, Lee DeWyze?!

  • girlygirltoo

This is a very nice version of a great Radiohead song.

I saw an interview with Thom Yorke where he talks about how he no longer feels any connection with the song. When he hears it, he doesn’t even recognize it as one of his own songs.

  • Kurt Samuels

Nothing has changed … he still can’t sing!

  • therivermaya

I love Lee’s interpretation of this song!
    So. Much. Passion.

Lee really goes down to a deep, dark place to deliver this haunting rendition, I don’t know why this still surprises me.  The range of emotion he can deliver with his music, from sweet , tender highs to tortured lows like this continues to amaze me. He can take anything, his own music or a classic cover, and take you on a ride with just his voice.

I’m so looking forward to the upcoming live shows, if you haven’t heard Lee live, you  haven’t heard Lee.  Song after song, he tells you a story and takes you on a roller coaster ride with the emotion of his music.  I can’t wait to hear his new work live, real music!  And I hope this is on the set list.

Creep is not one of my fav songs but I loved Lee’s version. He puts his own stamp on it which is so hauntingly beautiful.

  • angiedb

I would listen to any Radiohead song if sung by Lee! (Otherwise, no way!) I could listen to Lee sing just about anything. Beautiful!

I finally had a chance to listen to this. So good! I like it better than the original.
