Lee DeWyze sang a particularly heartfelt rendition of his current single “Beautiful Like You” on last night’s Lopez Tonight.

That was really good. This song is really growing on me.

  • glamertitis

Hey, that was good – I love full band Lee so an extra treat :)

  • MonochromaticFriend

Nice performance! I really do love this song. :) Also, props to whoever did the camera work for the musical performances on Lopez Tonight. It’s more interesting than standard late night talk show fare.

  • Dlynne

I’m jealous of those lucky people in the audience! Lopez has a nice studio setup. And I agree that the camera work was really great too.

Lee looks great and sounds great…just wish I had been there.

    Thanks for the video, MJ.

  • jennyl

Love the performance. This version was shorten up much better than the idol one. Lee is amazing as always :)

  • poster

What a nice performance of a beautiful song. The band looks awesome. I agree..the camera work and lighting were exceptionally good on the Lopez show. Loved this!

  • Pixie Baker

There is something I really love in Lee’s voice. I am into distinctive sounds and I think he really has a good one! With the right song, I think he will be quite successful….I hope that for him!

  • Yvonne13

I am paying for staying up till 1 am last night to watch Lee, but the sleepiness today is well worth it. And what a good looking band, I might add.

  • wfish8888

Get off my TV. Ur going to get dropped my ur label, and no one will want to sign you. Good luck in acouple months

  • tierbee

This was the song I downloaded off iTunes, really like it. Very nicely done.

  • cfletch

I like the sound of Lee’s voice, most of the time. I wish him a very successful career. It sure beats being a paint salesman.

  • kvwicks13

Lee and the band sounded amazing! Lee looked really handsome. The camera work and lighting were exceptionally good as noted above. It’s funny how it really makes a difference.

He started the song in a higher key this time, I liked it though. I also love his voice in the lower register as well.

  • heat914

Loved this performance of Beautiful Like You…what an amazing voice and damn good-looking group of musicians :) Thanks for posting this MJ!

  • ldjfan

Lee and his band looked and sounded great! BLY is such a great song and I love to hear Lee sing it live. Great showcase song for Lee’s awesome voice!

  • LeeSuperFan

Lee was so amazing last night…He sounded great and amazing…BLY was a great song +++ a really great singer who sing the song perfectly…No doubt about it…

  • aprilfoolish

What can I say? Those that love Lee, love him well, and this song is our reward. Great performance by Lee and the band, and nice introduction to new listeners.(FF?-future fans) he seemed happy, he loves to perform! I think George makes him laugh. Laughing Lee is adorable. :)

  • iani

He started indeed in a higher key, I like it more in the lower register but still a good, beautiful performance. I am happy for what is happening now in his life, new love, tour in Asia, hopefully a come back for the AI finale…I think Stay Here would be a good choice to sing or It’s Gotta Be Love something more up tempo for the mood of the show, anything would be good anyhow.

  • artemis

Lee and the band sounded fantastic.Lee changes his songs up every time he performs and I really love this soulful version. The Lopez stage and lighting looked much better than the usual talk show set-up.
Someone I follow on twitter was in the audience last night. She said Lee gave her a big smile as he walked on stage, but she conceded it was probably because she was seated next to Jonna Walsh and Mike DeWyze.

    THIS.
Talk about connecting to a song – Lee does it best!
He sounded awesome and I love that he has his full band with him. They all blended so well.
    * Thanks a lot for posting this MJ.

  • Junior

I still say this was a poor choice for a single. “Live it Up” would have been a better choice.

  • idolfan92

I love this song, and Lee. Great job!

  • Needspaintadvice

I love Lee and miss him as my paint guy in Mount Prospect, but this song is as dull as dirt. Hope his next album has a few upbeat songs with good hooks that are radio friendly. In other words, fire everyone who worked on his last one.

  • hoosiermama

Good performance! Loved the guitar at the end. “Say hello to your mom.” lol

  • wjmtv

You guys are killin’ me–I haven’t seen it yet and can’t until I get home! Arrgghhhh

    I love this song.

  • AIaddict

Good to see Lee and his band on my TV! :) He did great and is ever so happy. Smiley Lee is the best. Good things are happening for Lee and he will keep moving forward.

  • tigervixxxen

This was a great performance, I already loved the song so it is a lot of fun when a favorite song becomes a single. I’m really impressed with the way it turned out with the stage set up and camera work on Lopez. Lee does a great job and it is always nice to see the band. I liked how the song was long enough for him to get to the ending of the song where Lee kinda does his own thing with the song. Very pleased!

iani, in this video from the Comedy for a Cure event Lee says he will be back for the finale, he just doesn’t know what he’ll be doing yet. http://www.twitvid.com/ZTIA1

  • kvwicks13

BLY is a beautiful song. I find it uplifting, not boring at all. Some complained that SS was too pop for Lee, so not sure what people are looking for. Lee is more of an angsty singer rather than pop.

  • suziq

I’d venture to say this was Lee’s very best prime time/late night tv performance. He smiled a couple times (which is fine…it’s not a smiley type song), he looked great, sang great, kept his eyes open most of the time. I like him starting this song higher…the low start like on Idol isn’t my favorite. He started it high back in Worcester, MA last December (and that will forever remain one of my favorite performances of his). Yes, the GL show did great with the set, lighting and camera work for Lee and the band…ideal, really. Just seemed like such a “looser” (not loser!) gig for Lee and the band and more fun than some others. It was an A+ for me. And, yes, Lee looked very handsome! And I am a big fan of Lincoln’s musical chops…couldn’t be happier that he and Lee are together.

  • cokezero

Ugh. Can’t wait for this season’s finale so we can begin to forget he actually won the show.

  • kvwicks13

Sorry Cokezero, don’t agree with you there. Season 10 talent has not lived up to the hype as far as I’m concerned. I think Lee and Crystal were far better than those in this year’s top 12.

  • iluvai

I thought he sounded great. He looks really good too. Well done!

  • iani

Oh, good to know he’ll be back, thank you tigervixxxen. “Boring” is an easy, general word to stamp many singers especially if they are not your favorites. Look at Adele, she has only 2 songs uptempo on 21, sells millions and Turning Tables is considerate a masterpiece song by many, not a boring one. What can I say more!? I like her Someone Like You though.

  • sarah14

Lee is a great artist. He never sings a song the same way twice. All though the song we get nice little surprises. I don’t think he practices these, they just happen, I think reflective of the emotion he is feeling at the time. You will be watching him sing and he does something with his voice/music and you just say “WOW”. Each version of a song is unique. I wish he WOULD repeat some of these amazing things…beginning of Annabelle at Arlington Park before he sits down to sing, I love that! http://youtu.be/6A2yS6TyX4E

    needspaintadvice-
Radiofriendly upbeat song with a hook? I’d recommend “Stay Here” from Lee’s latest album, Live It Up.

Hear, hear! Everyone always talks about how “boring” S9 was, but it was light-years ahead of this season. We’d had at least a half-dozen “moments” by this time last year. I’m still waiting for S10′s first!

And no one in this season even comes close to grabbing me like Lee did the first time I saw him.

I so agree with this. I keep waiting for one of the contestants to wow me, but not yet. Strip down all the hype, bells, whistles, etc. that are making the “Show” better this year, and the contestants are really run of the mill. Is the show entertaining? Yeah. Are the contestants coming across as possible “American Idols” in the music industry? Not even close.

I am a season nine lover! There were things that needed to change, but I don’t see much difference in how the contestants come across. Still have nerves, still the same old songs, still the not so helpful comments from judges (last yr confusing, this yr hearts and flowers). I wish they hadn’t done the 24 to 12 week, I think those extra two performances help them get their nerves settled and build fans, so far I see talent, but any one could win. But not with my vote, first year I haven’t.

i’m with you on this although i wouldn’t go as far to say that i’m a season 9 lover but i did love the top 3. (although CaseyJ is my fave by a mile). and i get upset when people say they were boring. i just don’t think they were given a chance to speak. the judges’ love for themselves overshadowed the contestants. but their interviews and the cute things they did during the tour showed their personalities. they def got a bad rap but i think there are a lot of people who would not agree with me.

This..well said. I loved the Season 9 contestants (what we got to see of them) but hated the judges/producer apathy towards the contestants.

Yes, I AM a big, fat fan of WGWGs and YES I am and always was a big, fat fan of Lee’s (I called him winner at Top 20) and yes, I spend my hard-earned money on his music.

    So there.

Lee reminds me of the guitar player Roberta Flack sings of in “Killing Me Softly”. Yeah, I like him that much. He’s intense and soulful. My kinda WGWG. Paul Whatshisname can’t hold a candle to Lee in my opinion. Paul might be a songwriter…but he’s no singer. He sounds (sorta) good only when he’s singing with someone else. Ever notice that?

  • AIaddict

I already said this in another thread but I have watched all but the first season of AI. This year, I feel I am just watching out of habit to keep up with my favorite tv show. It’s not like season 9 where I could not wait to see what Lee, Casey and Crystal would do with their songs. The excitement is just not there for me. I have not voted at all. Where’s the risk takers? No body stands out and they are pretty predictable. Where’s the musicality? I miss them taking a song and making it their own. Most of the time these kids are not connecting to the songs they choose or that are chosen for them.

BLY is a gorgeous song. I was pulling for Me and My Jealousy to be the next single but BLY was a close second. Lee may be off to a slow start with record sales but one way or the other he will be around making a living with his music for a long time. I will be around to listen. ;)

  • idolhound2011

Yup, I am a season 9 lover too. Nothing this season gets me excited
    waiting for someone wow me.

  • ri

    waiting for someone wow me

oh me too. not sure it’s gona happen tho…

  • Brook52

Love the way it started in the higher register… and love all the impromtu changes he makes- a great article in the New York Times Science section talks about music and what catches us emotionally- one way is the performer being in the moment and making the listener feel as though the artist is performing the song for the first time- just what Lee does everytime.

  • Yvonne13

I am so thankful to see Season 9 lovers coming out of the closet. I sometimes think I will need a restraining order when the media and others refer to Season 9 as the “worst ever,” LOL. And yes, while I like this season, there are no wows for me. People come each week and pretty much do the same thing. Back to Lee…I am praying his tweet yesterday about good news coming soon has something to do with tour dates.

  • idolfan345

I am with all of you season 9 fans as well. Everyone keeps saying how much talent there is this year, well look, last year the focus was on the singer and their song. They were not running into the audience kissing people, lighting pianos on fire, etc. If they did, they were considered corny by the judges (and that is the truth!!). I believe Lee, Crystal and the gang were by far more fresh and more natural and I think we felt more soulful music coming from them. I have nothing against any of the contestants this year, I just feel season 9 has been criticized way to much and actually I feel it was by far the very best American Idol season ever. I feel Lee has a lot of surprises in store for us!! God bless you, Lee!
