I’ve already posted the unreleased Idol tunes from Haley Reinhart (HERE) and James Durbin (HERE) that appear on their individual EPs, American Idol Season 10 Highlights.

Now, here’s Lauren Alaina’s previously unreleased recorded version of “Wild One”, by Faith Hill, her personal pick from Top 3 performance night.

Lauren Alaina’s American Idol Season 10 Highlights EP comes out on Tuesday June 28, but you can download it now from Walmart.

WOW! Big thing happens at the BET Awards. Tiffany Green announces the Viewers choice award as Chris brown. She then immediately switches to Rihanna. And then Drake comes up onto the stage to recieve the award. It is now confirmed by BET that Chris Brown did win the award.

    too much echo/reverb? It’s ok.

Wow Kevin, I don’t know that commenters in a Lauren Alaina topic will care.

I think Lauren did OK. It’s not spectacular (bear in mind, I was a Lauren voter). She records well; it’s more that this was never all that great a song when Faith Hill did it. YMMV.

I hear a lot of echo(?) as well. Wonder if this was the producers attempt to make this more of a pop tune? She sings it well, though.

Very odd sound to this one. I can’t quite get a grip on what they were after. At any rate, I love Lauren and have downloaded most of what has been offered on iTunes. This won’t move me to buy the CD, but I’ll absolutely buy her new album when it comes out along with Scotty’s.

I don’t like the song. It would have been wiser to record “Maybe it was memphis”, because I don’t see how this song will be an incentive for people to buy the EP, if they already have the other songs.

Bingo. My biggest fear with the handling of Lauren is that they will try to force her into this type of up-tempo songs in an effort to create the elusive crossover effect. I’ve always thought she was at her best doing lower-tempo songs like “Maybe It Was Memphis” and ballads. Obviouosly her album will have to have some up-tempo songs, but I hope that is not the emphasis. “Memphis” would have been a much better incentive to buy the CD, at least in my case, and I’m a dyed-in-wool Lauren fan.

ITA. Lauren singing this type of fluff does not bode well for her long term success. Lauren is in a tricky position because she has to find her own style. Taylor Swift type songs won’t work for her because she has more power and range to her voice, but then I don’t want her to make an album exactly like Carrie. She’s just going to get criticized. In an interview, Lauren said that her style is a cross between Carrie and Miranda Lambert.

Maybe she will be able to get to the “cross between Carrie and Miranda” stage at some point. I think she has the voice for it. But, Carrie’s first album had a combination of pop and country producers, and I hope Lauren’s people keep in mind that it was the sentimental, near-religious “Jesus Take the Wheel” that catapulted Carrie to stardom and earned her acceptance in the country music community. I’m not saying they have to go that exact route with Lauren, but I do hope they come up with an initial single that’s more like “Just a Dream” than “Undo It.”

ITA. They want another Taylor Swift/Miley Cyrus and I just don’t see it.

I agree because what if that route doesn’t work out for her then what? Lauren does have a powerful voice and you can really hear it when she’s given the right songs. I would rather the label let Lauren just be who she is and give her songs to suit her style that they know will work for her. If she happens to have a single that could crossover to CHR then great but if not that’s ok too.

I thought since Day 1 that Lauren was going to be used with crossover appeal in mind. I thought *maybe* with Pia and Haley emerging a bit that they wouldn’t feel quite the need for Lauren to crossover into the Top 40 type of stuff – at least not yet. But now I am not so sure.

Usually, the artists who do the crossovers establish themselves in country first…at least I believe that is the case. I don’t know if they should be rushing Lauren in that type of direction. Let her establish a country fan base first.

Checked for Lauren’s EP at Walmart.com and getting a message saying “Out of Stock Online.” Huh?
