Lauren Alaina to Begin Recording in Nashville This Week

Mercury/19/Interscope promotes Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina with a new press release:

AMERICAN IDOL: TOP 24: Lauren Alaina, 16, Rossville, GA. CR: Michael Becker / FOX

MERCURY NASHVILLE/19 RECORDINGS/INTERSCOPE artist LAUREN ALAINA’s first single after taking second place to SCOTTY McCREERY on “American Idol,” “Like My Mother Does,” has become the highest debut for a second-place finalist in six years.

“This is so awesome!” LAUREN said. “’American Idol’ has changed my life, so I’m excited that the songs I performed on there are doing so well. I can’t believe that I have a song out on country radio, much less that so many stations started playing it right away. I can’t wait to get out and meet everybody and thank them personally for playing my song.

LAUREN will begin recording her debut album this week in NASHVILLE, where she will also participate in the annual CMA MUSIC FESTIVAL, which takes place in downtown NASHVILLE from 9th through 12th. She will present at the CMT MUSIC AWARDS on WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8th and play in the CITY OF HOPE CELEBRITY SOFTBALL GAME on SATURDAY, JUNE 11th. She is making her GRAND OLE OPRY debut on FRIDAY, JUNE 10th.

LAUREN will join the AMERICAN IDOLS LIVE tour that begins JULY 6th in SALT LAKE CITY, UT, and runs through SEPTEMBER. She is also performing on ABC-TV’s GOOD MORNING AMERICA on AUGUST 12th.

Cool to see Lauren…and Scotty get the big push from TPTB.  That statistic about her single could be challenged. If you consider Archie’s “Crush” as his post-Idol debut, well then he debuted higher at #2 on the Hot 100 in 2008.

She seems like a really sweet young lady. I am sure her talent will take her far!

The Idol tour starts tonight? Great! They really didn’t have much time after the show ended to rehearse. This year’s tour should be very entertaining.

Duh! Seems that I’m having trouble reading.

  • Mike M

The Idol tour starts July 6. I saw where James Durbin tweeted that rehearsals start today. That’s obviously not true for everyone. I know Lauren and Scotty are going to be in Nashville all week.

  • hooch

Country Idol seems to be an unqualified success so far. Next year everybody from Baltimore to El Paso who has ever even seen a guitar will try to twang it up a little is my prediction.

Can’t wait to see Lauren and Scotty at the Opry Friday.

  • lili_anne7

I hope they pick good songs for Lauren because I could do without more Kristy Lee Cook reject songs. Mercury Nashville seems very invested in Scotty, but hopefully they are as invested in Lauren too.

  • Eileen99

Nice to see promo for Lauren.

  • Pam

Love the picture they used. I can’t help but root for Lauren. She does seem like a very sweet young lady. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.

  • eyin

She looks like Hillary Scott in that press release pic.

Looks like they’ve hit the ground sprinting with the promo of these two. I see that they’ve been added to the CMT Music Awards TV spot too, and it’s been running all day on CMT. Looks like they’re still a package deal for now. I’m interested to see how everything plays out once management starts marketing them separately.

I think they would argue back that Archie first charted post-Idol with a bunch of Idol songs (Imagine being the highest at 71K and 16th on the download chart).

There was even an original song in the mix with “In this Moment) at 28th and 47K. It was just a live performance, but when one is talking up the achievements of one’s people, it doesn’t hurt to use strict definitions when it helps your case.

I think this does answer the question as to whether Bo or Lauren sold more (Bo must have sold a few hundred more).

Anyway, congratulations to Lauren! Lots of good adds today too.

I think it might be the opposite where they reject most country talent to avoid another country year. I don’t think that’s the best idea in that I think it’s nice to include country in a diverse cast. Maybe they’ll cast one country person but make sure he or she is foddery.

I’m most interested in the fact that Lauren’s starting to record this week. I hope her voice is in good enough shape for that. I’m interested to know who they hook her up with as a producer from Nashville. Sounds like there’ll be a backup song to Like My Mother Does soon.

lili_anne7: I hope they pick good songs for Lauren because I could do without more Kristy Lee Cook reject songs.

In fairness the KLC reject is still better as a song than ILYTB, it’s just not produced well. Too, Atlantic Nashville thought the song was good enough for Jesse Lee to send out as a single so I think they really did think it’s a song that would fit Lauren. For a live performance I actually thought it worked.

Glad to see the press release for Lauren. Although she seems to be getting a slower push to radio from her label as the runner-up, I do think they will give her good promotion and she will be getting lots of it this week in Nashville. I’m also excited to hear who she will be recording with. I prefer her voice to Scotty’s and I also prefer her debut single. She does seem like a very sweet young lady. For now I think promoting them together is cute and a good idea.

Isn’t it just wonderful how Lauren Alaina is being shoved down America’s throat. From the audition process till today, the only entertaining thing the girl ever did was fall down the stairs with her luggage in the Idol mansion.

I agree with this- I was thinking more about how many folks will try out

I love every second of it. Shove harder!

Lauren has such a great voice. It will be fun to see what they do with her.

I hope she’s been resting it these last few weeks.

  • tripp_ncwy

Why haven’t they sent out an official press release announcing the signing of Scotty & Lauren?

tripp_ncwy: Why haven’t they sent out an official press release announcing the signing of Scotty & Lauren?

I don’t know if there’ll be an official press release considering they’ve already welcomed both of them to Mercury Nashville and talked about their 1st week accomplishments. I’m not expecting another PR until they’ve had the chance to sit down and talk some in Nashville which will be this week. Maybe the next PR will say something about the producers they’re working with.

It’s all in how they word it. If they say “highest debut” on the chart, then Lauren has it. However, if they were to say the highest “debut single” then it would be David A, since live performance done on Idol finals is not his debut single. How can you compare a live performance track that charted, to a studio single released and promoted to radio? Tricky, tricky. ;)

Hope Lauren and Scotty are ready for the grind that is trying to juggle Idol tour, promo appearances and flying around the country to write/record your album all at the same time. They can kiss the idea of having any days off soon goodbye

I think Lauren’s going to adjust fine. I have a feeling she’s been groomed for this for a long time.

I worry a little bit about Scotty. As mature and chill about it all as he is, he’s still a boy who loves (and longs for) Garner and often speaks of missing his friends, family, church, baseball and school. Whereas other winners appeared to be excited to leave the past behind and get on with it all, I can see him being homesick for his old life once the tour finishes and he’s missed his whole summer with family and friends back home. I do see him drawing a line with his accessability. I think when this kid is ‘off the clock’ you’ll find him home in Garner and protected by his community so he can enjoy his privacy.

Wake me up when Haley gets her album deal.

Billboard just posted today what looks to be the official press release on Scotty and Lauren being signed.

Nigel and son are also producing the CMT Next Superstar show. Its down to public voting for top 2 guys. Matt Mason is a fabulous baritone with a rich sound that will give Scotty a run for his money, imo. Matt was on Nashville Star quite a few years ago but didnt make the finals. So now, Nigel has found 3 country singers making their record debuts at roughly the same time. Two of the judges in the top 2 were UMG record president and also the owner of the company and Trace Adkins, another baritone country singer. If you want to hear Matt and the other guy, who is also very good, go to http://www.cmtsuperstar.com

Wake me up when Haley gets her album deal.

Oh my….didn’t rip van winkle sleep for like a hundred years….that record may just get broken. ;)

I really don’t think we will have much official news for Haley until well into the tour or after….color me surprised if it happens sooner.

  • hoa_teca

Both Scotty and Lauren have potential, so it will boil down to good songs and promotion.

So finally a confirmation about Lauren’s recording. She’s been doing well for a runner-up so far.

Hm, I wonder whose album will be released first, Scotty or Lauren. I hope Scotty will the advantage as the winner, though.

I tried Matt Mason too. Sure he has the deep baritone voice that’s much older than his age of 20. Er, somehow his voice sounds similar to other country artists I know. And at 20, he looks a little bit old.

I didn’t think Scotty is the only kid with deep voice. But at the age of 17, his baritone comes from baby-face. He is young but quite mature at the same time. He can play like a kid one moment and become very focused the next second. His youth and his mature, calm attitude blend very well together. That’s what drew me to Scotty.

  • McCreerian

This has got to be surreal for both Lauren and Scotty! At the beginning of the year Lauren was just a High School student who was a cheerleader and who worked at a pizza place. Scotty was a High School baseball player involved with Chorus and Youth Group. They probably have to pinch themselves!

I’m totally with you on this.

Lauren held up pretty well to Slezak’s criticisms.
She seemed to have her answers ready – enjoyed hearing what was going on behind the scenes. Lauren can be quite engaging when she needs to be.
