Lauren Alaina May Drop Out of ‘American Idol’ Finale?

TMZ reports:

We’re told Haley just finished rehearsing, and if she does compete tonight she’ll sing 3 songs — “House of the Rising Sun,” “I Who Have Nothing” and “Bennie and the Jets.”

Michael Slezak of TVLine is reporting:

American Idol‘s presumed third-place finisher Haley Reinhart “is rehearsing right now” as a possible substitute for finalist Lauren Alaina, a source close to the show tells TVLine.com. Alaina, who lost her voice earlier today, says the show insider, is receiving “medical attention” in an attempt to take the stage for tonight’s performance finale, which will air in less than 45 minutes on Fox. Reports of Lauren’s illness first broke on TMZ.com. Within the last 30 minutes, American Idol‘s official Twitter feed sent out a photo of Alaina and fellow Top 2 contestant Scotty McCreery getting their hair and makeup done for tonight’s show.

This sounds a little hysterical to me. It’s from TMZ:

Lauren Alaina may not get her shot to be the next “American Idol” because she has lost her voice …spies on the set tell TMZ … and it could be the break of a lifetime for Haley Reinhart.

We’re told during the rehearsal this afternoon, Lauren — who has been losing her voice — was supposed to sing three songs. She got through the first, struggled through the second and was unable to perform the third.

Our spies say a doctor on the set has ordered Lauren not to sing or speak, but there is a “real possibility” she will not be able to perform on tonight’s show.

We’re told if Lauren is unable to perform, producers will reinstate the third place finisher — Haley Reinhart who will then compete against Scotty McCreery for the title.

Producers are trying to find Haley right now.

Sniff. Sniff. Sniff. Yep. I smell a publicity stunt!

    Now they are spinning the Idol media about how they had Haley rehearse. Still think this was an opportunistic PR stunt to make Lauren sympathetic and to get Haley fans (like me) to tune in.

    Got me to watch 1 Scotty performance.

    Do you think? LOL, Nigel really want her to win OMG ……the thing is that i think she has a good voice to win without all this annoying and unnecessary pimp and drama. :|

    I have to say, if the show itself says that Lauren is sick and brave and isn’t she awesome for performing, I’m picking up the phone and power voting all evening for Scotty.

    This is really disgusting how much they want Lauren to win.

    I could careless who wins, but secretly rooting for Scotty. At least he is where he is without EVER getting the pimp spot and being consistently good. More than what I can say for Ms. Alaina/Suddeth.

    Wow. Guess they got the message loud and clear, of the lack of interest in watching tonight. Talk about an act of desperation for viewership. Thanking the gods I can read MJ’s play by play to see if it’s worth watching…….or not.

    Well, Scotty just performed his new single, and I have to say I can hear it on Country Radio right now. For me, it was the best of any song he’s sung all season long.

    I hope Scotty wins over Lauren. And yes, zzatrms, Lauren’s dress on the second song was HIDEOUS!

    I hope that Lauren is okay…seems like they got wind that people were not interested in watching a country idol finale and had to drum up controversy. I’m still not going to watch, specially after the comments from people who have been watching already. DWTS for the win!

    Well …. I know they’re only kids and I’m supposed to be kind …. however they will be playing in the real world and they will not be so nice. They won’t worry about their feelings

    Lauren singing about mothers and going into the audience to hug her mommy was vomit inducing.

    And shame on Idol for the manipulating tonight.

    Wasn’t planning on voting but the manipulation made me pick up the phone and vote for Scotty-only gave myself a half hour.
    I remember voting for 4 hours for Clay Aiken and getting only 25 in-bad memories so limited my time.
    I felt the show was rushed through the first half hour-love Cookie but the repetition of Don’t you forget about me was too much and it seemed in a really low tone for most of the song.
    I think Scotty would represent well as the winner but he will do well regardless and after all the judges certainly want Lauren to win so I guess that’s who it will be.

    I think it was really stupid to even have the Pity party for Lauren. Scotty all the way. I really did not care who won until tonight as I thought they were both good singers, but this was all so stupid. Cry for pity!!
