Rodney Ho from the Atlanta Journal Constitution spoke with Idol Season 10 runner up,  Lauren Alaina on Wednesday before she took the stage with her fellow Top 11 for a concert in Grand Prairie, TX.

You can read the entire interview HERE.

About her upcoming album, Lauren reveals that she and her team have chosen songs from a couple of Carrie Underwood regulars, and hopes to have songs she co-wrote on the album

In the meantime, she has picked all her songs for her first album. Now she has to do the vocal tracks. “I love upbeat songs that people can dance and have fun,” she said. “But I also love country music that tells a great story. I think I got some of both.” Among the writers she’s working with includes Brett James (who helped write “Flat on the Floor” and “Jesus Take the Wheel” for Carrie) and Luke Laird (Carrie’s “So Small”) She hopes a song or two she helps write will make it on the album.

Lauren’s debut album comes out this fall.  The American Idol Top 11 perform in New Orleans tonight.

how does she know which songs will make the album if she hasn’t recorded them yet? Usually labels wait to see how the recordings turn out and how the songs work together before deciding which will make the cut.

Also surprising that she’s writing stuff for the album while Scotty evidently isn’t (at least that what I’ve been led to believe) ….

she has picked all her songs for her first album. Now she has to do the vocal tracks.

My understanding is that a significant number of songs are chosen for the album, they are recorded, and the 10 or 12 best make the cut..some of the cuttees then become bonus songs, or sit in a vault for the next go round or are sent out as demos by the writers for someone else to re-record (this is how both Adam and Kris got their first hits…and sometimes the backing track is left in place and only the vocals are updated).

Saying she has chosen the songs is true….gathering from that, that the album tracks are all chosen, isn’t.

Just to satisfy my curiosity, I wish someone would just ask her how much recording she has done. Rodney makes it sound like she hasn’t started at all, but I know that’s not true. She has spoken on more than one occasion about being in the studio. Scotty even said in the Google plus interview that they are both recording on their off days. I still get the impression that Scotty is farther along than she is.

Lauren probably meant that she picked the songs that she will record, but they won’t necessarily be on her album. It’s interesting that her label organized writing sessions for her.

Scotty did say in an interview (I don’t remember which one) that he had been writing songs, but for a future album.

I think Lauren’s studio time has probably been spent working out the instrumental track and maybe putting rough vocals on the songs to help flesh out the sound of the song. Final vocals will come later. That’s the way I can make sense of all these together.

I agree but I also think the number of songs she will record probably won’t be much larger than the number of songs that make the album. In other words instead of recording 20+ songs I think she’ll probably record around 15. The variable is probably the songs she’s cowritten.

I don’t think that he’s saying that she hasn’t been in the studio, or that she hasn’t recorded anything. Basically, the final product isn’t ready yet.

    Or, what Windmills said.

That’s the way I understood it from reading the interview as well. Lauren is right, as she said in her interview, her sprain isn’t a joking matter. As bad as it was, it could have been much worse. She’s been a real trooper with this injury. I can’t wait to hear her first real single from her album.

Looks like she is working with some good songwriters and we know already she has a good producer. I am hopeful she will have a solid debut album and I am looking forward to the lead off single to her album.

She better be a good writer if she wants her co-write to make the CD. I hope the songs she picked for her CD is better than that “Like my mother does”. I liked Scotty’s song more than hers, and I’m not a country fan. (I like some pop-country though) She did like singing uptempo songs on the show, so its not surprising if her CD has more of those. The girl has potential. She’s one of my favorites along with Pia and James and a couple others.

I wonder if anyone will actually buy Lauren Alaina’s CD…or better yet, if anyone will even know her name one year from now.

This. I think she will end up as one of the casulaties from Season 10. Part of it is age. Sorry, but the girl doesn’t exactly come off very bright at times. This is a perfect example of whether she really has a clue to what she’s doing?

Then she’s having to deal with Scotty’s shadow. I agree, I like his song better than hers. Don’t know if there is enough room for both of them. And he is way better spoken than she is.

And it now it sounds like Pia and Haley are getting more attention.

Although I won’t commit to anything, I’d definitely be interested in giving Lauren’s CD a listen to see whether I like it. For that matter, I’d listen to Scotty’s CD, too, to see how I like it. If I like either, I’d buy ‘em.

I am a little leery of what kind of songs they will sing, given their age. IMO, Idol doesn’t have a good track record with young contestants. I was less than impressed with what Paris and Allison produced, even though I think both are talented singers.
