Newly-married Season 6 contestant, LaKisha Jones’ new single, “So Glad I’m Me” drops today. Her debut album, hits stores February 17.

The mid-tempo R&B single has a current–if a bit generic–sound. Her peeps are definitely aiming for pop radio.

What were they thinking with that photo? She looks like she’s ready to beat somebody up!

  • Suzanne

I agree. What’s with the mean-look pictures? I guess it goes with the song. I am not a fan at all of songs with this message. I liked LaKisha on the show a lot, but I am definitely not the audience she’s targeting now.

  • teemuccee

    Again, i personally love it!
Suzanne, don’t give up on KiKi: if you have previewed other songs such as ‘Same Song’ (written by Diane Warren) or ‘Just As I Am’: these are beautiful, powerful ballads….

LaKisha is just trying to show us the different side of her voice with So Glad I’m Me, which has an inspirational message: to love yourself like she does even though she may not be perfect.
As MJ said, the R&B style she is singing is aimed for radio play but even so it is still showcasing LaKisha’s voice and like I said before I love it- the chorus and the words are extremely catchy.

The album cover can be seen on lakishajones.com and I think it makes LaKisha look very stunning and diva. The single cover fits with the R&B style…. don’t judge a single by its cover because the song portrays a message of loving oneself in a time when so many people are discontent with themselves having plastic surgery etc

Go KiKi! I hope your single goes amazing- all my friends love it and I am just about to dowload more copies for my family.

    Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s with the mean-look pictures?

Maybe it’s because…….she’s mean? She said something nasty about one of my favorite idols, and I don’t like her anymore. Thing is, I can’t remember what she said, or which person she said it about.

Oh well — don’t like her.

  • Layla

I loved her on the show but this isn’t something I would buy.

But she did sing the shit outta “I’m telling”…my fave version-evah!

  • colette

I liked the song “Just As I Am” a lot more than the single. It really showcases the power of her voice.

The mean look is stupid and misleading, because by most accounts Kiki is a terrific gal, a great Mom, etc. She’s needed a lot of inner strength to get this far given that she did not have the middle or upper class advantages many Idol contestants did.

I just wish there was a new Jerry Wexler or Smokey Robinson or somebody around to handle her, and make the Aretha-style soul records she is capable of. But even you guys who don’t like her single, please give a listen and express what you think to this (in my book) much better tune — there’s a short interview first — the song starts at 2:20:
