This just in from THR. Island Def Jam chairman, L.A. Reid will take a seat on the X Factor US judges’ panel.

Sources tells THR “it’s a done deal.” Reid, whose contract with Universal Music is up in December, will get an early release so that he can take part in Simon Cowell’s show, which awards a Sony Music recording contract worth $5 million to the winner. Auditions for X Factor begin on March 27 in Los Angeles. An announcement is to be made this week, according to an insider.

Reid, who will be one of 4 judges (including Simon Cowell), is expected to join Sony Music as it undergoes a major management restructuring when current UMG chairman Doug Morris steps in as CEO of Sony Music on July 1.

Reid has had a hand in the careers of artists such as Pink, Avril Lavigne, Mariah Carey, Usher and Justin Bieber.

According to Deadline, Enrique Iglesias has been approached to host.

Simon Cowell tells MTV that potential X Factor judges must understand the American market at the very least.”

“I have to make sure we have a lot of Americans working on the show to begin with,” he said. “I’ve got to have people on the panel with me who can judge American talent because I’m 51 years old, I’m British and we’ve got people as young as 14 entering this competition. So I’ve got to make sure I’ve got people sitting alongside me who genuinely know what they’re talking about so that we don’t lose somebody in the audition process.”

LA Reid, huh? NOW Simon has my attention. **thumbs up**

So LA Reid has the “Louis” spot as the older record producer, I’m expecting two younger pretty women for the two other spots

from TV Guide’s article on the news

Enrique Iglesias, meanwhile, has reportedly been approached to host the series, Deadline reports.

So far so promising. This is what I always thought Idol should have done. Though I like Tyler (not so much JLo) I don’t think they should have been selected as judges. I wanted to see the people who really knew the business from the inside to be on the panel.

That’s why we have Jimmy Iovine for Idol.

LA Reid would be a huge one for Simon. He is reportedly going back to Sony to take over the Jive Label Group. I wonder if he will bring any of his signed artists over to Sony.

I think having someone connected to the label that the contestants will be signed to is interesting, but I doubt that any of the nine AI winners, including Carrie, would have won if this had been in place on Idol. We’ve already seen Jimmy Iovine being too involved at this stage, and I’m pretty sure the same will take place on X-Factor. Of course, the main difference between X-Factor and Idol is that Simon wanted to have more control over the contestants, and who is eliminated and win, so I guess this makes perfect sense.

I recall months ago that Simon said in an interview, he would love to have Paula for his show. I am guessing Paula does not want to do this or she is under contract for another show? What ever happened to the dance show that was on CBS where she was one of the judges? It just disappeared. I watched it a few times and then I could not find it in my TV Guide. Did CBS cancel it before the finals ? As I feel bad for the contestants if that was the case. I hope the show at least compensated the contestants well if the show was cancelled before there was a winner as it seems so unfair to them and some were young kids.

    I’m impressed!
They would have offered a host job to Enrique Iglesias.. hmm I don’t think so..

  • iFly55

I doubt Enrique Iglesias could host the show, English isn’t his first language and with his active singing career; anyways i don’t think he’s much of a “tv personality” either.

I can’t seem to picture anyone who could do it better than Seacrest, but who knows they might find someone.

Nick Cannon & Jerry Springer failed miserably …

Sounding great. I’m looking forward to seeing what the judges can do with the contestants. That way we see their current potential. I’m tired of people coming out of Idol and then failing. I’d like to see them get help and it be a contest also between the judges.

Wouldn’t this be like a step backwards for L.A. Reid? One of the most successful record label execs to….reality TV show judge?

We’ve already seen Jimmy Iovine being too involved at this stage, and I’m pretty sure the same will take place on X-Factor.

But Jimmy I doesn’t vote! He’s just looking for a recording talent, and matching the singers with producers. He has little influence on how the audience votes.

As for LA Reid and the X Factor: (how much are they paying him?) There are just too many doggone singing contests. And none of these finalists are big stars….they’re touring artists more than anything. How many more singers is going to be dumped on the public….it’s getting crowded in here.
Everyone should read the dailybeast about Celine Dion getting $100Mil for 3 years in Las Vegas. I wondered to myself, is there anyone “young” who can play Vegas for 3 years and make that kind of money and command a sellout show every night? I don’t think so, not in today’s climate. The old schoolers, Dion, Cher, Manilow are mainstays in Vegas and making a ton of money. Let’s see how many of the AI finalists will be around 10-20 years from now?

Not to put AI down….it’s a good entertaining TV show….but I don’t take it or the talent seriously.

haha LA is the guy P!nk mentions in her song “dont let me get me”

“LA told me, you’ll be a popstar, all you have to change is everything you are, tired of being compared to damn Britney Spears, she’s so pretty, that just ain’t me”

I don’t know if she would sellout shows every night, but a casino offered Beyonce a $100 million dollar deal for I believe just a one year commitment.

HDD is still saying it’s a done deal, just a ‘when’

I hope this means Sony artists will get some performance slots!

Beyonce is destined for Vegas eventually, and she would totally sell it out IMO.

WRT to Pink and L.A. Reid,
When I first heard that song, I thought Pink was talking about the city of LA, you know, how Hollywood changes people. It wasn’t until I saw a show about Pink’s career, I realized “L.A.”was a person!
