From USA Today:

American Idol finalist Kristy Lee Cook has signed with 19 Recordings/Arista Nashville. Her first single, 15 Minutes of Shame, arrives Aug. 11, and the album follows in the fall. The album is being produced by Brett James, who co-wrote Jesus, Take the Wheel for former Idol champion Carrie Underwood. The signing marks the return for Cook, 24, to Arista Nashville. She was signed to the label as a teen but dropped before recording anything. Cook will record her album while touring with American Idols Live, which kicks off Tuesday in Glendale, Ariz., and runs through Sept. 13.

I’m not super-surprised, she was signed, although I thought they’d sign Brooke White first–her sound is pretty hot right now.

Congratulations Kristy Lee. She’s entering a very crowded field of pretty blonde fair-to-middlinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ country singers in Nashville. Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll see if she can distinguish herself from the pack.

If Kristy Lee’s single is dropping on Aug 11, I wonder when David Cook and David Archuleta will release their singles? Sooner rather than later, I would think.

  • AInoob

I didn’t think 19 would be signing her over some of the others, so this begs the question: Just how many of the Idols will be signed this year? And her first single is coming out August 11? I thought in their contracts it says they can’t release anything until after the AI winner does?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

And her first single is coming out August 11?

That was the most interesting thing of all….

  • primeminister

Congrats, KLC! She’s a fighter. I’m just bummed Randy Jackson isn’t producing it, heh.

Who’s next? I’m betting Brooke and possibly MJ. No one else though, imo. I just hope Jason gets an indie deal.

  • jpfan

I’m pretty sure I read that Brooke White won’t do anything until after the tour which means she hasn’t been signed. I also doubt that Jason or Syesha will be signed. But anything is possible. I wonder if Kristy Lee will have the first Idol single out. August 11th has to be the earliest release I can remember.

I thought Idol was full up on country blondes but pretty, blonde, Idol and country just go together. I admire Kristy’s grit but the Elliott fan in me always gets annoyed when they sign the lower placed finishers before the ones that finish higher. All the idol rules went out the window Season 5 when Pickler was the first one to release her music.

  • IGetCranked

That peeves me that her single is being released so fast. I really think the winner should get their released first. I have no problem with everyone getting signed.. it just seems to water down the excitement when there are several releases beforehand. Then again they have totally different fan bases so it won’t make a difference.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Kellie Pickler was the first to release her album Season 5, and I think she had the first single too, if I’m not mistaken.

  • calimari

Go figure – the one I couldn’t wait to leave the show gets the first release.

  • J.S.G.

KLC should just re-record ‘Eight Days a Week’ and entitle it ‘Three Minutes of Shame.’

  • IGetCranked

    ROTFDL! J.S.G.! Score!

  • AInoob

    LMAO, JSG! Good one :clap_tb:

  • holeighannie

    HAH! JSGFTW.

I’m annoyed by this. As someone who loves country music, I resent that her skill level is going to be representing the whole industry. Kellie Pickler may not be the best vocalist but her personality really makes up for it and her first CD was awesome. I’d much rather see Jason/Carly/Brooke signed before her.

  • psnax

Hmm. I’m somewhat surprised to hear that KLC has been signed by a major label ahead of some of the other contestants but then I know nothing about the process or what influences these types of decisions (e.g. the terms of the AI contract, who music execs think will be most marketable and profitable, the preferences of the individual contestants etc.) I hope that her label and management work with her to make sure there is no repeat of Eight Days A Week.

I wish KLC success with this venture as I do all the others. It seems that most, if not all, the contestants who make it to the final rounds of AI really want to make a career in the music industry and hopefully AI can help them do that. I’m not going to worry too much about who gets picked up first – I don’t think that’s too likely to be a benchmark of success in the long term.

  • gingerly

Country music is huge and their fans are very supportive. This doesn’t surprise me at all. I was never a huge fan of Kristy but never really understood all the hate…

  • maracaibo

I am not surprised at all.
Blonde, pretty girl, country it all works for 19. I am thinking they are at least hoping she gets a Kellie Pickler kind of success. Well, it’s all business as they say.
She is one of the most marketable of the finalists.

I thought MJ got a record deal, damn it! Hopefully if he did not signed with 19 he gets a record deal with someone else in the future. I am so rooting for him to do well.

  • tinawina

I’m shocked she got picked up . I expected MJ and Carly, but not her. Shows what I know.

  • SpenserJ

See, this is why I’m not a record executive. I’m completely mystified by this. If I were in the business, I wouldn’t even return this hack’s phone calls.

I think the implication that she’s a pretty, blond country singer so of course she’ll be successful is an insult to talented female country singers everywhere. I get that the country fan base is a loyal one, so AI always likes to be represented there. But, I have a hard time believing they’ll accept a performer this lame.

  • http://www.dancin.ca dancin

    i’m shocked over this also
    ugh
but then i just won’t buy her music

there were other much more talented singers this year brooke jason carly michael .. and its kristy that gets signed ? ugh

maybe they just want to beat nashville star to the finish line with blonde country singer lol

  • ianamy

Congrats Kristy! I knew she would be picked up by 19R. The only other one might be MJ. They won’t be signing a lot given the current music industry.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I thought her audition was actually pretty good. All her extended reign on the show proved was that when it comes to theme weeks, she pretty much sucks, aside from a couple of above-average performances (“Anyway” and “Forever”). That’s not to say that she’s not a decent singer. I think she’ll do well in the Country music genre. We’ll see….

  • t2

My favorite quote from last season was from Josiah and “might” have been about Kristy Lee Cook. It went something like this:

“Maybe I didn’t make it, but at least I didn’t get through by singing Amazing Grace every single time.”

Honestly, I have no idea why on earth they signed KLC. Was it the deal she made with the devil? I don’t get it.

    Good luck. I guess…

  • Jolene

Really surprised she got signed, I thought with Carrie and Kelly being blonde country girls from AI, they might try to diversify and go with Carly or Brooke this year.
But what surprised me the most is how much info was given right off the bat… We still know nothing about who’s producing the Davids’ albums, and have only a very general idea about release dates.
    Strange.
I don’t really mind, she’s just not my 1st, 2nd, even 9th pick to listen to from this year’s contestants.

  • spritely

I grew fond of her over the season. I, too, liked her grit, and I actually thought her final performance was full of feeling and soul in places. But then, I am no judge of country music on this show, despite the fact that I really like cw music. I was really wrong about Carrie. I thought she sang flat almost all the time, but it turns out she’s a terrific singer.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Well, Kristy Lee can join the very crowded field of pretty blonde fair-to-middlin’ country singers in Nashville. We’ll see if she can distinguish herself from the pack.

  • jpfan

Kristy actually sounds pretty good on the radio (I heard a clip from AI) but without the “pretty” she’d be nowhere. It’s kind of sad that 19 passes up the talented singers like Melinda and Elliott because ..well you know why. E got his revenge but the focus on the visual is one reason why today’s music is so lame.

  • J.S.G.

I think KLC is a better vocalist than Taylor Swift, and we all know how popular Taylor Swift is.(hehe)
So look out world, here comes Kristy Lee.

I wonder if she’ll be pimping her single while on tour at the expense of the other Idols.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

Congrats to Kristy. Count me in as one of the surprised too. As far as the first single business, remember that TOML is not doing to shabby on the HAC and AC formats and doing ok at pop. I think he said his first single wasn’t coming out until late September anyway and yes, Pickler was the first to release her album during season 5 as mj stated.

  • cats w/ shades

Kristy getting signed was not a major surprise really because a label had interest in her before. Kellie P had the looks plus personalityand I thought Kristy showed hints of being a better singer.Elliott Yamin I do not know the facts if indeed choose the independant route and cannot compare to other artists..Most not all Idols who do well on a big label see to be are geered toward “safe” music sound sort of familar to the pop or country music out thier.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

I think KLC is a better vocalist than Taylor Swift, and we all know how popular Taylor Swift is.(hehe)

I know others here have said this a time or two and I agree. Don’t get me wrong, she is a beautiful girl, but I just don’t see her popularity and I think Kristy has a much better voice than she does too.

  • jpfan

For an indie artist like Elliott to go gold is a major accomplishment and can’t really be compared to major releases. Not to mention, his album sales are heading to gold in Japan so he’s got international appeal. That’s something most country artists don’t usually have.

He’s doing pretty amazing for a white r&b artist in a horrible climate for album sales. rant over :)

  • tinawina

I think KLC is a better vocalist than Taylor Swift, and we all know how popular Taylor Swift is.(hehe)

LOL. I think Taylor Swift gets a pass because she’s a singer/songwriter. Plus her songs are catchy and full of teen angst. But Kristy? Is she really that good a singer/performer? Does she really have something compelling to say? I just don’t get how she is different from the 10,000 other blonde country chicks. I guess we’ll find out soon. Or not, since it’s not like I actually listen to Country. Oh well.

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I am so NOT surprised by this, at all. Country is one format that sells very very well and she is pretty much guaranteed to put out a better record than Jessica Simpson :P

  • s3rious

^Not quite sure if everybody will agree, but doesn’t “Time of My Life” count as the very first official single of David Cook? If so, doesn’t this mean this years winner has released a single before some of the runner-ups like Kristy Lee?

I’m honestly surprised KL got signed. I just didn’t see this coming, though I do remember Randy Jackson mentioning in a Larry King Live episode that he’d sign KL over Jason ( I would however, do the opposite if I were in his position :) ). Good luck Kristy, I’ll admit you’re very pretty.

Anyway, I’m hoping Michael Johns, Carly, Brooke and Jason all get record deals, either with 19 or with some other company.

Depending on how much money I’ll have saved, I’ll probably see myself buying David Cook’s album first, then any money left over I’ll go buy MJ’s, Jason’s , Carly’s and Brooke’s (This just might burn a hole in my pocket :( ).

  • t2

Don’t worry about TOML — it is getting pushed big time on the radio. How do I know? We only hear the “favored” idols in my area and I hear that song ALL THE TIME.

Maybe this explains why they always have KLC hanging all over David Cook in the photos — success by association.

  • wfowfowfo

Put me in the “I don’t get it” column. KL? Really?

Maybe she’ll get in a fued with Jessicia too — it’ll be a big ole’ blond slugfest — how exciting would that be? Only not.

I’ve heard Carrie’s latest single on our popular radio station. It’s considered a “Mix” station, but never played country music before. They’re also playing Rascal Flatts — it’s very weird. (The station is MIX 107.3 in DC.)

Can they only sign now if they’re signing with 19? Those who are not have to wait until their contract is up after the tour?

Jason… pretty please — someone sign Jason!

  • cheese

There are two really annoying things about this:

    1. JSG got to post his 8 Days a Week joke first and
    2. C’mon, it’s Kristy Lee Cook! She doesn’t have Pickler’s charm & personality or Carrie’s voice. She’s just kind of… there. She likes horses. Yay?

I see no reason why both Davids couldn’t release singles in August if their labels wanted to. (If KLC is stinking up the airwaves in mid-August and I’m waiting until October for a new DC song, I will be pissed.

  • s3rious

^ You’re right t2, now that I think about it, I do agree with the “success by association” observation.

  • Trina

Good for her! I actually really liked her on AI and I’m not shocked she got signed. Her “Anyway” is one of my favorite performances from the season. Kellie ended up doing very well and IMO Kristy Lee is a better singer so I think she’ll do fine.

^Not quite sure if everybody will agree, but doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Time of My Lifeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ count as the very first official single of David Cook? If so, doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t this mean this years winner has released a single before some of the runner-ups like Kristy Lee?

Yeah that. As much as I’m clammoring for his first single off the new album, techically TOML IS his first single considering the level of airplay he’s getting on 3 formats. It’s not like the other coronation songs that get some airplay then fade right after the finale. As of today it’s at #35 on Pop. At the rate it’s going on AC/Hot AC I wouldn’t be surprised if continued to chart on there through the summer.

  • Jolene

Please 19, please let the “success by association” begin and end with photo ops. Please no Cooks duet! Not on tour, and not at all!
    I wouldn’t mind a DC-MJ duet, though.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

Wow! I didn’t expect to see this! I’m not shocked, but I am surprised. I guess 19 doesn’t have enough blonde country singers? I agree that KLC lacks the vocal chops of a Carrie and the personality of Kellie. We’ll see how she does.

We knew they were considering a third signing, but my money was on Brooke. Now I’m betting there will be no more signings by 19.

  • hardkandy

I can’t believe they signed her over Brooke and Jason :(

I think this is it for the 19E signings.

  • skylight1219

So this explains the move to Nashville. I’m totally bummed. Not that I don’t think she should get a record deal, but, come on. Bucky Covington came in at 8th place, and, is doing fairly well, but, I happen to like Bucky’s voice better. It’s distinctive, not so, with KLC. She just sounds so generic.

  • itsalleternal

Wow, that was surprising. I was expecting Brooke and Carly to be picked up over her, and perhaps Michael as well. Maybe they’ll be signed as well?

  • dfc

I like Kristy Lee Cook and am very happy she has a record deal and is moving to Nashville. I always thought she should have finished higher than seventh. I like her better than Syesha and Carly. Maybe it’s the country fan in me. I think KLC is a lot better than some I’ve heard in Nashville. I’m glad she’s getting another chance. Just my opinion. Now, come on Jason, it’s your turn.

  • MrsTrep

Congrats to KLC! I wish her much sucess! :)

Hopefully once the tour is over we’ll get Brooke & Jason on indie labels and MJ’s got something up his sleeve from the sounds of it.

  • tinawina

Hopefully once the tour is over weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll get Brooke & Jason on indie labels and MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s got something up his sleeve from the sounds of it.

I think 19 is signing MJ. How else could Hot Aussie afford all that expensive studio time with those big names? I don’t care how much Diane Warren likes him, she ain’t working for free. LOL. He’s getting signed.

If Brooke and Jason, especially Brooke, end up going the way of Melinda I will be crushed. Please god let them both sign to real labels with real distribution. My heart can’t take my favorite getting shoved to the side 2 seasons in a row. :down_tb:

  • http://www.xanga.com/hisaki_chan707 Hisaki

Well, congrats to Kristy! I also expected Brooke to be signed before Kristy, but I’m sure Brooke can get a deal somewhere. Well-wishes to Kristy and whatever success she can garner from the signing.

Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s entering a very crowded field of pretty blonde fair-to-middlinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ country singers in Nashville. Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll see if she can distinguish herself from the pack.

With that sparkly wardrobe of hers, I don’t think she’ll have too much of a problem standing out when she’s standing next to all the other country blondes…

  • hardkandy

If Brooke and Jason, especially Brooke, end up going the way of Melinda I will be crushed. Please god let them both sign to real labels with real distribution. My heart canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t take my favorite getting shoved to the side 2 seasons in a row. :down_tb:

I do hope so. Brooke is more marketable than Melinda though and her sound is more current so I have higher hopes for her.

Regarding MJ, isn’t he working with David Foster? Maybe DF is the one getting him the studio time.

  • Jenn_AI Fan

I had heard three signings from 19, and had hoped that #3 would be Brooke. Sigh.

Given how early she was knocked out, she may have been working on the album for the last half of the finals, so it makes sense that she might be in better shape to get out an album faster than either of the Davids. But I hope that we get this much detail about timing, etc., for DC’s CD soon.

  • Tony

    LOL. Kristy? Really?

  • abbysee

Oh hell. I can’t say I am surprised. I also will not be surprised to read of her being dropped this time next year. Yeah, she’s cute in a girl next door kinda way. She’s plucky, which if it wasn’t such a jaded, calcualated kinda pluck, I might actually like. The bottom line is I think she isn’t interesting in any tangible way, so I am not interested in hearing anything she has to sing, any day of the week. If Carly and Mj don’t get signed, I will indeed be one pissed of fan. Kristy effing Cook? Damn!

  • dfc

    Michael Johns interview

    http://www.comcast.net/tv/seenontv/3662/idolmichaeljohnsontourdavidsdadpaula/

After going through rehearsals, is there any one singer’s set you’re looking forward to?

I’m really thoroughly impressed with Kristy Lee Cook’s set, actually. It’s like she’s way more
comfortable doing this than she was on the show. I’m not the biggest country fan in the world,
but she’s bringing it. Then there’s Jason Castro and Brooke White. That’s what’s cool about it is you go from R&B to country to rock.

What kind of work have you been doing on your own album?

I’ve been writing and recording and done a couple of songs with Diane Warren and done
some work with David Foster. I’m just trying to get as much done as possible before we
leave “for the tour” and I’ll be writing and recording during the tour. Then, hopefully I’ll have an album out as quick as possible after it’s over.

  • http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=84731174 purplesmile

I’m not a big fan (except I also liked her take on Anyway), but good luck to Kristy.

The press release is also on Fox News now.

  • skylight1219

But Jason is beautiful too. Not blonde, but, a head full of dreadlocks. Plus, he can sing, and, plays instruments. Come on somebody, sign that beautiful boy. Just think how gorgeous he’ll look on an album cover. After all, according to Simon, it was his looks that took him to #4. :rolleyes_ee:

  • KrazeeK120

I kind of feel like this is a huge smack in the face to Syesha, Jason, Brooke, and Carly. They all finished higher than KLC, and many people would say that all of them are more talented.

I am a little surprised at the KLC signing. Simon said in the semis that he didn’t think she would get higher than 10th. I wonder what his thoughts are on her potential for album sales.

  • Michelle

Soo not surprised — she’s pretty, blonde, actually showed some spunk in a season mostly lacking in personality, and has a decent voice. If she hadn’t made some stinkers of song choices she probably would’ve gone further. I was fully on the KLC hate train early on but by “Anyway” she was starting to win me over.

Plus, country seems to be much more supportive/forgiving of the whole Idol association than other genres.

    Best of luck to her.

  • AZIdolFan

i’m sitting here shocked that KLC was signed to 19!!!! She is not going to sell, IMO. She is pretty (in a commercial) way. And she may record well but I just don’t find anything special about her and I found something special about Carrie & Kellie. She doesn’t have the X-Factor. 19 is going to lose ALOT of money on her just like they did with Kat. I predict that Phil will have higher sales than KLC.

I can’t believe they haven’t signed Carly. I knew they wouldn’t sign Brooke (too emotional better going indie) or Jason (they never liked him) or MJ (he is going with Foster). But I really thought they floved Carly. Maybe Carly thought she could get a better deal somewhere else. (Don’t these contestants watch the show. Don’t they know the “best” success comes from 19.)

  • hollygo9

But Jason is beautiful too. Not blonde, but, a head full of dreadlocks. Plus, he can sing, and, plays instruments. Come on somebody, sign that beautiful boy.

Hopefully, JCas will go the Elliott Yamin route and be a success entirely on his own terms.

  • jnd1221

I’m a little surprised by this, but not shocked. I’m more disappointed that it’s not my Jason being signed, but I hope he goes with an indie label anyway. Thinking about it, Kristy is beautiful, pretty spunky, and a decent singer. I agree that she doesn’t have Carrie’s pipes or Pickler’s personality, but I would flip it and say that she has better pipes than Pickler (who I adore) and a bit more personality than Carrie (one of my top 3 of all time!), at least upfront. I think she could do okay, it just really depends on her music. Good for her though, I appreciated her not giving up and continuing to improve throughout the season.

  • Suzanne

You know, I was surprised and pissed when Kellie Pickler was signed to Arista Nashville and Elliott wasn’t picked up by the SonyBMG labels–he’s just a WAY better singer. But with these country artists it seems like it’s not completely about that. Carrie Underwood is, in fact, a good singer. And I know a lot of people like Kellie Pickler, but with her, it seems like it’s more about her sparkling personality (and she does sparkle) than her singing voice. Kristy Lee Cook is quite a witty person, actually, and may be a “talker/singer” like Kellie. As a member of an audience, I far prefer a singer who also engages the audience with little stories and talking.

AZidolfan–what do you mean “he is going with Foster” about MJ? Foster is a producer, not a label.

  • sumidol

“Kristy actually sounds pretty good on the radio (I heard a clip from AI) but without the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“prettyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be nowhere. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s kind of sad that 19 passes up the talented singers like Melinda and Elliott because ..well you know why. E got his revenge but the focus on the visual is one reason why todayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s music is so lame.”

JPfan I have to agree with this because Elliot and Melinda voices really are amazing but I just have to disagree on the fact that you think that Jason will not be signed. He has a wonderful voice and it just about the “prettiest” Idol I have ever seen so please people sign the boy!!!!

  • http://stores.ebay.com/BookWomanBlues-Book-Nook Bobbi

Kristy will probably do fairly well if she gets some decent songs. The ones from AI that have done the best, Carrie, Kellie and Bucky have all had great songs. Josh and Phil not so much.

I just hope she learns to move on stage a bit better during this tour. Carrie still has a problem doing that.

ETA: Oh and I’m another vote for getting Brooke signed! I really want some music from her!

  • Suzanne

“Given how early she was knocked out, she may have been working on the album for the last half of the finals, so it makes sense that she might be in better shape to get out an album faster than either of the Davids.”

I thought that too Jenn. She must have had four weeks after the press and b/f the final to work on that single. She may have recorded it b/f the final.

You know, I predicted Cook and Cook to be signed and no one else, unless someone else finished number 1 or 2. As huge as Archie was, especially at first, unless he finished 2 or better I bet they wouldn’t have taken him. 19R loves Daughtry and their country blondes, and Cook and Cook are perfect for that crowd. I know, no one believes me–but it’s true. I did so predict.

  • itsalleternal

Brooke is helped by the fact that her pre-Idol CD has sold at a pretty good clip since she first appeared on AI. I believe it has sold around 30,000 copies but I cannot really confirm it since I don’t keep track of sales figures of pre-Idol albums.

  • http://myspace.com/saltwatercures pj

I have to say that I think KLK has a better shot than anyone currently on Nahsville Star.

Oh, David Foster does have a record label. He may be signing Johns.

  • itsalleternal

Oh, David Foster does have a record label. He may be signing Johns.

Since they are not associated with SonyBMG in any way, it would either have to wait until August if there are no offers, or it would be an awkward fit for 19E.

  • Suzanne

Thanks PJ. That was interesting. Josh Groban and Michael Buble are also on it. Kind of surprised if MJ joins there. I’m very eager to see what happens with that.

  • AZIdolFan

Thanks PJ. I knew Foster had a label but i just didn’t have any info on it.

For the rest of the idols we have to wait and see. (I hate this part.)

  • SuzziQ

I am actually surprised that not only did she get signed but that her single is coming out on 8/11. You would think Cook and Archie would have their singles out before then. Hopefully their singles come out sometime in July.

  • sumidol

“For the rest of the idols we have to wait and see. (I hate this part.)”

Me too – this part is always me because my fav’s(Clay, Bo, Blake, Jason, Daughtry-Elliott) have never won since Kelly so for most I have had to wait and see. Daughtry of course blew me away, after I got his cd I told my husband that I knew this this and this song would be a hit and they all were. So, I told him that Jason would be a hit and we would hear from him again and I hope my psychic or psychotic powers are correct again!!! Please?

  • hapi

    E 19..arista nashville… is arista nashville a branch/part of e19, idol related ownership?

If so, let’s see. KLC was “previously” signed by arista nash. but didnt get to record anything? Then appears on the show that owns that company and gets signed again and has a single coming out before others? hmmmm….

  • Stefunny

Brooke is helped by the fact that her pre-Idol CD has sold at a pretty good clip since she first appeared on AI.

Her CD (Songs From the Attic) just recently made it onto Walmart’s website as a preorder so hopefully even more people will see it, be intrigued, and buy it.

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=10177534

  • skylight1219

I actually liked KLC toward the end of her run on AI. After the EDAW debacle, I think she did a decent job. She falls somewhere between Pickler and Underwood, IMO. And, Carrie has proven, you don’t need stage presence to be a mega star it seems.

This just sucks. I come to this site specifically to see if JC has been signed and find out KLC has been instead. What a joke!!!! I was going to use another adjective/expletive but showed restraint. God I hope there is a God and he shines on Jason. Let someone give him a chance not some pretty little blonde girl.

OK my ranting and raving is over.

    E 19..arista nashvilleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ is arista nashville a branch/part of e19, idol related ownership?

If so, letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s see. KLC was à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“previouslyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ signed by arista nash. but didnt get to record anything? Then appears on the show that owns that company and gets signed again and has a single coming out before others? hmmmmà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Coincidence? Maybe not. It does make you wonder.

  • idolbeat

Yay! A little KLC redemption! I have 6 favorites this year, 1/2 of them have been signed – now on to my other 3 – Jason, Alexandrea and Chikezie. I am still holding hope that Alex will be noticed by someone. Jason – only a matter of time – Chikezie, not sure!

  • idolbeat

Skylight, I agree KLC is between Kellie and Carrie.

  • bigmjfan

To the person above that said Josh Gracin didnt have good songs but Bucky did. I am not sure if you meant it like that is why he hasnt had success. He actually has had way more success then Bucky and somewhat better then Kellie. He has had a number one hit, two top fives and his album was almost platnum.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

I was skeptical when Kellie Pickler was signed (she really wasn’t all that great on the show) and was pleasantly surprised by her success. But Kellie has something KLC does not have and that’s an amazing personality, great sense of humor, plus the voice. KLC seems bland to me, ala Carrie but without the great voice. She’ll probably do numbers like Bucky, not bad, but not in KP’s league.

I would bet a few of the others cough*Carly*cough are just a teensy bit jealous about now! Oh, they play like they’re all great buddies, but for KLC to get signed an no one else…

It also strikes me as just a little odd that she’s signed to the same label she was dumped from. Interesting to say the least.

  • Lu

I’m very surprised because Simon seemed very lukewarm about KLC. He was jazzed about Pickler and Daughtry so I wasn’t surprised when they were signed. hmmm… interesting

  • jpfan

I had heard a rumor that only one runner up would be signed by 19R. That’s why I said no signing for Jason, etc. Who knows though? I’m was surprised they signed Kristy although blondes in country are doing really great these days.

It just seems odd that they needed a season of Idol to resign KLC.

The best publicity in the world maybe? Nobody knew who she was before Idol.

They still have about 7 weeks to pick up anyone else they may choose to.

  • Natasha

I’m thinking this was in the works all along. Can you say ‘ringer’? She was already signed to this label once before and now she’s going back with a lot of publicity.

I never thought 19E would sign Jason or Brooke even though they were very popular and people really want them to get signed. I did think they might sign Carly though so that surprises me a little.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

    My predictions:

    1. KLC’s album will be nothing but dreck that panders to the lowest common denominator.
    2. She will sell very, very well.

  • skylight1219

Dreck is very popular these days. So, yeah, it’ll probably sell very well.

  • barefootgirl

I would love to know what factors they consider when they choose to sign or not sign. I think they have tunnel-vision. If it worked once….

I’m not big into pop country and don’t really care for any female country singers that aren’t dead. Well, maybe Wynonna. I prefer male voices and traditional old style country. Carrie/Kellie/Kristy don’t do anything for me though I think Pickles is cute as a button. I much prefer Bucky.

  • StevenD

They havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t said that Kristy Lee is the only Idol that they are signing this year just the first (after the winner and the runner up) and that could be because she presented a close to finished single that they liked or had someone that wanted to work with her. Also with respect to her she comes cheaper then Underwood or Pickler would so that might help.

I think sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an excellent choice for a contract and have been saying so for a while. I think she is all American beautiful with a good voice that sounds good recorded and could be even better in a studio surrounding and Country has always done well for Idol.

I also liked her personality and think she could have a big career. I also think that their will be announcements on some of the Idols during and right after the tour.

  • idolbeat

StevenD, I agree. I will eat my hat if 7 or 8 are not signed when it is all said and done!

  • sumidol

I hope she does well, I am not a big fan of country though. I will have to listen to Anyway and maybe it will change my opinion of her. It is hard for me to get past the picture in my mind and head of her singing that Beatles song. That was pretty funny and I really couldnt take her too seriously after that.

  • JOJOSIE

Not surprised, but wish Carly would be picked up by 19E also. My other favorite that didn’t win MJ I think will do okay. In season 5 both Pickler and Daughtry had albums out before the winner. I think Do I Make You Proud is considered Taylor’s single and it was out right after the show ended. I wish they would put out a record of TOML as I enjoy having one as kind of a keepsake. As per Melinda and Elliott, both great singers , but you have to have looks or charisma or both these days (not fair). IMO Elliott would not have been so successful with out relatives in the recording business to guide him despite having talent. It’s a tough business. Daughtry has done better than I expected and I think the record company felt he wouldn’t do as well as a solo artist, not bad looking, but not much stage presence so they developed the band to make him saleable and it worked, big time. TPTB I think feel Cookie can succeed without a band as he owns the stage all on his own. I hope the ones that really want careers in music have their dreams come true.

  • Tony

IMO Elliott would not have been so successful with out relatives in the recording business to guide him despite having talent.

I have to disagree. I think it was Elliott’s talent that got him recognized, cousin or not. Which is why Elliott didn’t have a recording deal before Idol. He didn’t magically gain a cousin after Idol–he was always there.

  • barefootgirl

have to disagree on both points. I’ve seen Elliott perform several times. He has great stage presence. He’s come a long way in the last couple years. “Looks” are in the eye of the beholder. If he & his model gf ever broke up, I have no doubt there’d be a long line of honey’s waiting to take her place.

He had one relative in the business that gave him guidance but knowing pros in the biz doesn’t guarantee anything. Look at all these kids that get signed by big record labels that have many professionals guiding them. Many of them have tanked.

Elliott worked his butt off promoting himself. He travelled from city to city doing radio tours. The stations played his music because they liked his voice and they liked him (talent plus charisma).

  • StevenD

I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t be surprised if they record a country version of Faithfully with her. If you ever get a chance on her first disc she recorded a great song called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Devotedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ that I thought showcased some powerful country vocals.

I honestly think that with Idol not having a female rock pop singer with a strong voice that they will also sign Carly or at least make sure sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s signed and keep a percentage of it. I also think that Michael Johns and Jason (as long as he proves heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s serious about the business) will be the other two sure bets to be signed.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

    Yup!

  • jobbix

It all depends on radio play, which Elliott got for one reason or another, for just one song. Unfortunately or fortunately, Kat, Blake, and even Taylor didn’t have such luck. If Bucky Covington can be hailed as a success story, so can KLC…

  • http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=84731174 purplesmile

According to this article, KLC is currently on vocal rest. (I posted the link in the headlines thread, too. It’s a nice article, with video, with the girls of the Top 10.)

  • blairw

She doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have the X-Factor. 19 is going to lose ALOT of money on her just like they did with Kat. I predict that Phil will have higher sales than KLC.

i think with her it’ll will all come down to the single/songs.

and btw katharine was never with 19M. first she was with azoff and now guy oseary

  • gabam

Congrats to Kristy. I’m not a fan but I wish her well.

I sincerely hope that 19E, 19M nor 19R signs Jason. He needs more creative control than they would probably allow. He said that he likes to take his time to connect to songs he sings. Rushing to put out a CD would not be ideal for him. I hope he gets a deal similar to Elliott’s. Jason is already a songwriter so maybe he will get a publishing deal first and then a virtual record label deal built around him too. (A girl can dream.)

Since Jason has written on his blog that he will release a CD in winter or spring, he must have something in the works. I remember during Jason’s radio interview while he was home for his hometown celebration, he and his mom said that they (and others) were up late the previous night making career decisions.

Kellie released her single and her CD first. I guess Kristy will do the same. I remember how excited Kellie was to hear her first single on the radio while they were on tour. Kellie co-wrote a lot of her songs. I wonder if Kristy is a songwriter.

Whomever is not signed by one of the Sony/BMG companies probably won’t be allowed to sign with anyone until three months after the finale.

Doesn’t 19 take a huge share of the artist’s cut? I thought I read that sometimes during Season 5.

I wonder who else they will sign. Probably MJ and/or Carly.

  • SpenserJ

I don’t think either Brooke or Jason has a prayer of being signed by any of the 19 labels. I just hope they get picked up by someone, so that I can buy their cd’s.

I’m confused by Michael Johns’ involvement with Diane Warren and David Foster. I thought he wanted to go with more of a rock vibe. But, those two are pretty far in the opposite direction. Perhaps MJ secretly wants to be the next Celine Dion? LOL

  • Caffiend

I’m not surprised by this. Kristy has wholesome good looks, a great smiile, a better-than-average voice, and — sorry! — plenty of personality. More than Underwood had at this stage! Remember her farewell song? I think she showed a lot of guts and toughness on AI. I dig her. I’ll buy her CD.

  • bean99

I have to say that I never thought that Kristy would be the first after the Davids to be signed and especially by 19. She’s somewhat pretty and has a somewhat good voice and I guess being in country helped but picking her over some of the others? :blink_tb:
