Kristy Lee Cook

Kristy Lee Cook, newly signed 19R recording artist will be releasing her single “Fifteen Minutes of Shame” on August 11. Her album with Arista/Nashville will be released in the fall.

You can listen to the new single HERE!

It’s got a nice hook, but all in all, pretty generic pop country, if you ask me.

Good grief, how much news is happening today?

This song is a cross between He’s so vain and Before He Cheats to me so it will probably be a hit. I don’t care much for it though her vocals sound good. She needs to carry a bat in her video to make sure it has crossover appeal.

Oi! I wouldn’t have been able to tell that was Kristy if I hadn’t clicked on the link from here. It does have a pretty nice hook.

  • CRB

Generic and catchy, sounds a whole lot like a pair of Red High Heels I used to know.

  • Layla

    It’s okay…good luck to her!

  • cookcricket

Her voice sounded good. I kinda liked it. Hope she does well for her sake.

  • ianamy

Like a “before he cheats” rip-off, but very nice and catchy. I like it.

  • IGetCranked

Her next single will probably be, I Kissed a Horse. *hums* and I liked it…

Ok so I’ve been painting today and the fumes have gotten to me.. forgive me.

  • jpfan

very generic. Maybe a modest hit if she has a sexy video. She’s a bit short in the personality dept. but then I know zip about country.

  • cookcricket

Okay my husband who, mind you, likes and sings country said, “If they write many more songs like that for her, she’s only going to get 15 min. of fame.”

He likes her pesonalilty and voice and hopes she gets something good.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Kristy Lee always seemed like a sweet girl, but IMO she just doesn’t have a lot of talent and was only on Idol as a “personality” contestant. But then again, I can’t remember the last time you needed talent in the country music industry as long as you were pretty and blonde.

  • Jenn_AI Fan

I actually like country, and I would definitely not buy that single. Sounded pretty generic, really.

  • jnd1221

Not bad! Decent hook and her voice actually sounds good. I hope she does well, I enjoyed her attitude on the show.

  • GEEK4VOCAB

    No thank you.

  • annoula

    Ehhh….not so much.

  • goldenlpb

All the best to her. I hope she makes it big this time around.

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Just a minus. Nothing much original happening there — by far, she’s no Carrie Underwood or Kelly Pickler.

But, she does have a great head full of extensions, if that helps! (not)

  • shelter

I’m no country expert, but this song just doesn’t go anywhere. I think it’s starts out cute and catchy. I don’t like the ending, at all.
I do like “Before He Cheats” and Bucky’s “A Different World”, cause they have interesting lyrics and kinda tell a story.

  • elle

WHAT? This is the best they could do? Poor Kristy Lee! I don’t know much about country either – is there any way this can climb the charts? Not even as close to as good as “Before He Cheats” “You’re so Vain” and even “Red High Heels.” Can it be all about the video with her lookin’ mean, carrying a bat and wearing boots, shorts and a sparkly tank top?

  • bluegreen

    Yikes.

Well, maybe they’ll put together a really funny video for it. It’d better be really really funny though!

  • Jolene

So, Kristy’s single is actually being released after David Archuleta’s, but we get to hear it already? I’m guessing we’ll be hearing David’s new song pretty soon too?

Now, if someone could just tell me when I’m going to hear the winner…

  • skylight1219

I can just hear some creative DJ, saying, this is Kristy Lee Cook’s, “15 Minutes of Shame.” LOL For some reason, that struck me funny.

  • cookcricket

I imagine it will appeal to a certain niche. The whole story telling thing that shelter mentioned is the best country music.

  • Jolene

Just heard it, and it’s very meh for me. Than again, I really don’t like country, so I’m probably not the best judge on this.
    Good luck Kristy!

  • stelladallas

This song doesn’t sound like anything special, but not any worse than Jessica Simpson’s new country song. Blah!

  • ktkidwatcher

It isn’t terrible…..I’ll give her credit for that. It’s really not as bad as some of the songs I hear on country radio today. It’s got an okay hook but it’s nothing special. I wouldn’t buy it but I wouldn’t turn it off if it came on the radio. Its just ok. It won’t sell her a lot of records and won’t be a hit. But, it won’t hurt her. She has good vocals but the song doesn’t tell much of a story and is a rip-off of Before He Cheats but without the angry stuff. It won’t be in my top ten favorite country songs of the year. She’s a nice girl and I hope she does ok but with songs like this, she won’t go far. I see her selling 250,000 albums. tops. She needs a powerful ballad or a hit angry song like Kellie and Carrie.

  • http://airincaol.com coco

Sounds as good as anything I have heard on ALL radio lately.

  • primeminister

Not bad. Her voice sounds pretty strong too.

  • Colleen

Not for me. I love country music, but not this song.
Sadly, I think the title will backfire too.

Kristy’s voice sounded strong, but the message with the “Shame, Shame, Shame” part is “Lame, Lame Lame!”

Collectively, this blog could have written a better song for KLC.

  • tufu11

the song reminds me of come on over by jessica simpson..

  • BlankSlate

    THAT was quick.
They surely want her to get her 15 minutes of Fame in before her biological clock expires. ;>

SKYLIGHT– your post made me laugh. And you are so right. How silly will it sound when the DJ announces “And next up is Kristy Lee Cook’s “15 MINUTES OF SHAME”?! It just does not roll off the tongue without a smirk!

Sounds like they added a synthesizer to give her voice more twang and depth.

Oh well. Good luck, KLC. Hope we don’t get another Fake “I Sold My Horse to make this record” story when you start your press for this release.

Sorry to be so cynical but… ;>

As a country fan, I really hope that’s not a big hit. It doesn’t have much going for it. The “shame, shame, shame” refrain is awful. Kristy’s voice sounds “fixed” and there is no personality shown in the song at all.

Kellie may not have the strongest voice, but what sold “Red High Heels” and the rest of her album is that they were authentic songs that came from her and her life. She also has a huge personality that could sell them. I no more believe Kristy singing this song than I do Brooke trying to dance on stage! Surely they can do better by her than this.

  • dancingqueen

    I’ll pass on this one.

  • daisy

Kristy has no texture, emotion to her voice, sounds like a couple other dozen county cutie singers I hear on country radio. the shame, shame. shame should be directed at the writers of this drivel, who will try to pass this off on country radio as a “hit”. I didn’t believe Kristy for a minute on this.

  • bigmjfan

Being a huge country fan this is just an average song. Nothing special. Kind of like phil Staceys first single. I dont think kellie picklers songs are that memorable either or special. They are good but nothing that is going to be a huge hit. Unlike the songs Carrie got.

  • Michelle

Kristy sounds great but the song is pretty boring…then again I know squat about country. (I did like Before He Cheats…)

  • anijsch

I hope for Kirsty the rush is not an indication that they just want to use the hype from Idol and don’t look for a long time success-

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

I love Carrie. I like Pickler. But KLC was the weakest performer last night. She has the stage presense that Carrie did not have during her time on Idol – but not the voice. But as we all know, Carrie learned stage presence and has it in spades AND she has the voice.

  • jenniewdc

I’m thinking they are in it just to make a fast buck, anijsch. I understand that Kristy has already finished recording her album! Could that really be right? Sounds incredible.

I’m not a fan of country, but enjoy it occasionally. I think this single is really poor. And the title is begging for parodies. As someone alluded to earlier, critics & DJs could have a field day with it. (Instead of Kristy having her 15 minutes of fame, she’s having 15 minutes of shame. That sort of thing.)

Well, I liked it. I’m not some HUGE fan of country music, but I’m getting into some of it, and I don’t think the single is awful at all. I’ll at least check out her album to see if I like it enough to purchase it.

  • aly

No thanks. Didn’t care for it at all.

  • abbysee

Not a fan of country pop most of the time. I like Bucky and I love Pickler. Carrie has a big old voice, but that was never enough for me. I love Pickler because she’s a country singer cause she’s a country girl. I can’t explain it better than that, it’s just who she is, not what genre she thinks she would be profitable in. Her songs are credible. Her voice is distinct. I know who she is the moment I hear her voice. That matters to me. Kristy’s voice is so generic that the song would have to be stellar for me to take notice. Sadly, it’s not.

I used to listen to country, many moons ago, but I don’t anymore. If this is what they’re producing, that’s probably a big reason why. I don’t like Carrie and I don’t like Pickler, so I sure as shit am not going to like KLC. The song is also pretty shitty, so that’s not helping matters. I miss like…Travis Tritt and Clay Walker and Martina McBride. I have no idea if they’re still making music and it’s not like I’d listen to it because my deviation into country music happened when I was still in high school and I’m pretty sure I’m not going to go through that phase again, but let’s pretend that I would for a minute so that my argument is somewhat valid. I love that rice cooking in the microwave song to this day, though.

Yes. Yes I have been drinking. Sorry about that.

  • bean99

I’ve never been a KLC fan or a country fan so am biased against her from the start and this song did nothing to change my mind. I like this about as much as I did “Red High Heels” and that’s not at all. I have no idea if this will do well or not.

  • ALee

I think she sounds good, her voice is distinctive. Good luck to Kristy Lee.
