Kris Allen’s Single Set to Be Released in Two Weeks

Kris Allen recently told The Morning Call in a pre-concert interview that he’ll be releasing a single before the end of September at the latest:

‘American Idol’  winner Kris Allen is well into recording his debut album, but he’s not sure precisely how far.

Allen, speaking in an interview Tuesday before his performance with the American Idols Live tour at Reading’s Sovereign Center, said he’s been recording tracks during stops on the tour, which started July 5 ‘“ a month after he signed his contract with 19 recordings and Jive Records.

He said, for example, he was recording Tuesday in Philadelphia with Alex Band from The Calling.

‘But I don’t know exactly how far we are,’  he says, laughing.

He knows, however, that a single is being prepared for release right after the ‘Idols Live’  tour concludes Tuesday, and definitely before the end of September. But he steadfastly refuses to release any details on it.

Kris has also been collaborating with Mat Kearney, Joe King of the Fray, Dan Wilson of Semisonic, Claude Kelly, David Hodges, Salaam Remi and Chris Daughtry. His CD is set to be released November 17.

    I’m sure with Kris being older and hopefully wiser he will have a bit more control over his single and his album than the other AI Jive artists.

    I remember that Archie’s single was released during the AI tour and that there may have been a few rumours about the title, but nothing concrete. The single was spun for the 1st time on Kiss 100 in New York and when I say 1st Time that is an absolute truth. Archie had never heard the finished product before the big day…he didn’t have a clue as to what the producers were and did do with his voice and his over dubbing and what the finished product was going to sound like. And the single was re-addressed before the album came out and was changed up slightly for better sound quality.

    Subsequent to that Archie (as Jordin before him) didn’t have a lot of say-so in the tracks that ultimately made the album. His cover of Angels was pretty bland…and the scuttlebutt was that Jive didn’t like his take on the song and requested that he sing it pretty much “straight-up” even though he had been refining the song over 50 shows on tour.

    Also, most of Archie’s own material was relegated to “bonus songs” and didn’t make the album, and one song he really liked didn’t even get a mention. (Zero-Gravity was distributed after the fact as a bonus single).

    Now, I am sure that Kris probably has a stronger and more willful center than Archie and, hopefully, he can make his voice heard above TPTB. But I am sure, as a type this, that his producer and the sound engineers are taking some of his already recorded material and are adding all the necessary “fluff” to make it into an actual single. I’ll bet that it won’t be an acoustical track and that it will have a lot of over dubbing and backing tracks. Not saying that the song will be “bad”, probably far from it, but it won’t be vintage Kris Allen like a lot of people fell in love with on the show.

    I’m excited about the new single. Kris may not get the uber-hype that Adam does, but he never has, so why would this be any different? He’ll live or die by the music, and I’m sure he wouldn’t have it any other way.

    This is also what I’m a bit afraid of considering how short time is given for finding the right songs, recording and mixing. Would be so neat to learn something on who is producing. We’ve learned quite a number of song writers but I think there is really no info regarding who is producing( at least what I’ve seen). Knowing the producer could possibly give a clue to what the sound will be like.

    Being very hopeful and extremely giddy nonetheless!

    I think this is very smart of Jive to get a single out ASAP. David Cook had a coronation single with legs. Kris sounded great on No Boundries. but the song sucked and died. Also, I’m real excited because this advance single may mean that No Boundaries is NOT on Kris’s CD, not even as a bonus track. Wouldn’t that be awesome?

    Can’t wait. Very excited. I rarely like what ultimately comes from the AI contestants after the show is over. I SO want to love Kris’s CD. (fingers crossed).

    Are you going to be updating the Historical Charts? I noticed they haven’t been updated in a while as we don’t have any information on the first week sales of debut albums of Brooke White and Michael Johns. With 5 Idols coming out with albums in November and singles this month, watching the sales numbes is going to be quite interesting. The more statistical information on sales the better.

    I stand corrected that is 4 Idols with debut albums in November since it looks like you only reflect the first week sales of debut albums. Is there any way you can also reflect the total album sales of all the Idols? Are those numbers available?

    I can’t wait to hear this single, I can’t believe how excited I am. I have a feeling it’s going to be one of the songs that Kris wrote with Joe King, he seemed so excited about the songs that they came up with.

    I hope he states his case but then does what they say. Blake Lewis bucked the system, pushing for “How Many Words” as a second single and not only did it tank, I’d be willing to bet the fuss he put up over it sealed his fate at J records.

    I want Kris to do well and I want Kris to express himself but at the end of the day he’s a new artist and needs to keep his mouth shut until he has built up the necessary clout. After all, each year new AIers come along and those who are annoying but not profitable are easily replaced.

    I don’t see this single as being “advanced.” If it had come out in August, then, yeah. But David Cook’s single, Light On came out Sept 23rd which is approx when Kris’ song will be released. Kris was my pick to win last May, but I am a little concerned by his lack of… I don’t even know what to call it. Enthusiasm, maybe? I know he’s a chill dude, but really. His constant refusal to talk about the single/album worries me. I think I’ll like his album no problem, but you’ve got to have some small bit of buzz coming out of the gate, and I just don’t see it. Kris needs to learn how to sell himself, if he wants to make it in the business, that’s all I’m saying.

    And on a different note, mj, I still can’t read all the comments on each article. It will say something like 75 comments in the header, but I can only see about 30-ish, maybe one page worth. I’m sure you’re working on it, but wanted to let you know I, at least, am still having trouble. Thanks!

    What I’m worried about is Jive rushes Kris into this grueling schedule in trade off of quality. Kris didn’t sound he had much control on what would end up in HIS album. I remember about a week ago he said he was half way in recording and now suddenly his single has been picked.

    It’s actually pretty common for the first single to be picked before an entire album is finished.

    I prefer his approach to the bragging other AIers have done in the past about how wonderful, marvelous, fantastic their albums are. Playing it close to the vest now will keep him from having to eat his words down the road. Besides, the only people paying attention right now are the hardcore fans. When it’s actually time to promote a viable product, he’ll do the interview and performance circuit. Until then, the only issue is fan curiosity and we’ll just have to wait.

    Seems like he mentioned there would not be any surprises on his album? I thought he previously said that there will be some surprises on it. I really hope for some r&b influences in his album, not just a straight pop rock album. Nevertheless, I’m sure I will defintely like his album because those songwriters that he collaborated with are of my music preferences.

    I like (and own)Dan Wilson’s solo stuff, so I am happy to hear Kris is working with him. Should be a good collaboration.

    Kris has no idea what he is doing. He doesn’t even know what he was working on the night before? I do not think he has much imput into what his album will be like. Is he just going to sing other peoples tunes and not even try to make them his own? I will not buy his song or album. He sounds like “duh”.
