I’m not usually wrong with my instincts so I am predicting that this is a very good single for Kris based on the short clip we heard from the thread yesterday. While I anxiously await for Adam’s single, I would like to congratulate Kris again. To his fans, well, there goes your idol and he will not disappoint your expectations.

I felt like that at first too, but now I don’t really think he needs to change it. The original’s not on the radio and nobody except us Idol-geeks know about the YT clip. He’s reaaallllly busy right now, so why change up a song that doesn’t need changing? It’s not like he’s releasing something already widely known.

Well, it’s a good sign that Z100 will even play it, I guess. I’ll turn it on at 7:39 and off as soon as the song is done. I can’t bear Z100 longer than that.

I think it is a good thing.

It’s meaningful to me that Mr. Slezak, who I often agree with, is enamored of the single. I so want to see Kris succeed, and make great music I can love….

As MJ would say: Nothing like hyperbole from inside the Idol bubble. Slezak might want to think about a cold shower or something. There isn’t much precedent for the whole nation rolling down their windows and singing along with an American Idol.

Yeah only half to get thought the rest of tomorrow, Friday and the weekend. I see if I like it as much as I did after only 23 seconds. Which am sure I well. Am so excited for Kris.

His most recent tweets definitely makes it sound like he will be live in the studio at Z100. He also mentioned in that Manchester interview that he would be going to Detroit, Boston, New York and then London -so it also fits in the timeline.

Z100 is a great launching pad for a single- Jordin’s Tattoo and Archie’s Crush both did well on the charts, no doubt in part to this huge initial add (number 1 Top40 station). Personally, I’ve been listening to the Script’s album for the past few months..I love it. So, no surprise that I like this song too. I’m excited to see this song’s progress on the charts!

I put no weight on Michael Slezak’s opinion of a song. If he likes you, he will praise you. If he does not like you, he will find a way to criticize you. For him, it seems like it has nothing to do with the song. Wiki has his comment on Blake Lewis’s first single: Michael Slezak of Entertainment Weekly gave the single rave review, thought that it “sounds like it could easily hold its own on Billboard Hot 100″, “not just a ‘good for an Idol graduate’ kind of single, but instead the kind of track I’d spend money to download” and predicted that it will be a “big hit”. Just a bit off I would say.

Will folks who bought his iTunes pass get it early or will they have to wait until its official release date?

For some strange reason I’m excited to hear the full radio version but I am getting more excited anticipating hearing a live version. I am just interested in how he will change it up. Will he play an instrument or just sing. I think I would prefer he just sing this song so he can hip hop around on stage like the GMA show. I think the song has a faster tempo than anything he performed on the show. I like that he is showing more range in his musical abilities. I wonder if Jive already has his backup band & singers in place as he makes the promotional circuit.

I like the news that it’s Z100 because it sounds like 19E/Jive plans on releasing the single to both Top 40 and HAC at the same time. I was always putting my money on such a thing, but it’s nice to basically have the confirmation.

It’s nice that Slezak seems to think so nicely of the single. Hopefully others will feel the same.

Boy Monday better get here quick. I’ve been listening to it all day there youtube. There one or two on you tube that fan’s put up and I keep replaying it. I can’t wait to hear this! I completely agree with deez, about Kris being busy and not needing to completely rework a song that few outside of the fandom have heard before. I think it already fits his style; as long as he commits to the lyrics, he’ll be good!

And Slezak’s a blogger, of course he has his favorites, I don’t know why some find that offensive. He likes Adam too, I’m sure he’ll do the same thing when his single comes out.

In this case, it’s not only Sleazak who has something positive to say, though he is the only one who heard the full song. At least, Lynsey Parker, Jim Cantielo have also given a very positive view about it. On many bolgs around it is more than 80% positive. That should tell you something. I have seen an examiner article a short while ago that also said it is so better than many idol singles and referenced DC. I think it’s good so far.
I agree with them 100% and I’m happy for Kris. Remember Sleazak has credibility, he likes Kris but criticized part of his set on tour.

I’m torn, I want to hear both the live and the recorded version. Looking at Z100′s site, they have videos of artists doing stripped down versions of their songs, while in the studio, but would it really make sense to debut a live version of this song, when they are trying to promote and sell the recorded version.

I think Kris will sound incredible doing an acoustic version of this song, I would love to hear him use his lower register on the chorus, so I don’t know what I want to hear. Maybe, since it looks like he’ll be there, he’ll do an acoustic version of another song, and they will play the studio version of LLWD.

As far as Slezak goes, he still likes Blake’s first cd, and has called it overlooked. Just because it didn’t sell well, doesn’t mean that it wasn’t good. And an album not selling should not influence a critic’s opinion. There were a lot of factors that go into whether or not people connect with an artist, a song, or an album.

Do not underestimate the power of the pocket idol. I love a good pop hook and this song has it in spades and if you are going to have inspirational message lyrics, these make a hell of lot more sense then the Nobo drivel about mountains and hurricaines.

But it’s true that a lot of bloggers have heard the song and like it. That’s a very good sign. I’m not sure I want him to sing it acoustic if it’s a lot different than the studio version. They play Heartless every hour or so on mix in Boston (no, I still can’t win tix, dammit), and the recorded version isn’t bad at all, but it isn’t, IMO, nearly as good as the acoustic/live version. I want to hear KRIS at his purest. This is why I’m excited to see him on Tour in smallish venues–I think we’ll really be able to connect to him that way. I like upbeat Kris (SWHFTM), but I like acoustic Kris. JMHO, and I hope he will get to promote the hell out of it without a lot of instrumentation and music overlays or whatever.

Well I don’t think he will sing LLWD live as the idea is to premiere the single. Sure would be a bonus if he did something else acoustic though!

I am very excited to hear the whole thing, and I hope somebody leaks it before Z100. I suppose that’s wrong of me, but Z100 is not on my radar, so I don’t care about them.

I would guess it will be the recorded version (they’re dropping the single, after all) and then Kris will be in the studio to chat about it. Archie dropped his single in the middle of summer and shot the video somewhere on tour, so his was out pretty quick. Cook’s song came about about this time last year, and then they shot the video a bit later, because it was cold when they did it, and it shouldn’t be cold yet in California, should it? I think it premiered around the first of November. So it may take awhile, since he seems to be more on Cook’s schedule than Archie’s. Or maybe Jive just learned from their mistakes with Archie.

Whooooo. It’s a milestone… first real Idol release of this year (and first ever in my Idol following career). So imma be excited despite all my “Live Like We’re Dying” hate. =)

I’m honestly not sure whether Kris cares whether his song is a huge smash or not. I think he likes being able to make music and do what he wants with his life, and he is so zen (so stealth!) that I think a modest hit, enough to get another album, and enough gigs to keep him going for awhile, would make him very happy. Maybe happier than #1 hits and groupies and screaming and huge, faceless arenas and never being able to take his wife out to dinner without paparazzi and fans driving them nuts. Maybe I’m nuts to think that. But I kind of believe, in my heart, that Kris might prefer a less torturous and noisy kind of success.

Slezak LOVES Kris. I’m going to have to agree to disagree with him this time That said, some people really do seem to genuinely love the song, so I’m curious as to how the general non-AI public will respond to it, since we haven’t really seen any reactions outside of the AI bubble yet. And within here there’s tons of bias in all directions.

Thanks, now I see where everything is going. Now I’m convinced that Jive is going to push Kris big time. I think they know exactly what they’re doing with him. They are notgoing to do any mistakes.
I’m sure Kris is expecting worse ctitiques than he’s getting so far, knowing what has happened since he won but I think that guy has thick skin to go through any of these. He seems not to be fazed by thins that bother a lot of his fans.

I agree with Slezak about people not caring whether or not its a cover (and I think a lot of people were unaware that Prince wrote Nothing Compares 2 U at the time, but I was a small child and a huge Prince fan, so my anecdotal evidence is probably rather unreliable. I do think it will be the same with people not knowing it is a song by the Script, but even more so as most people won’t know who they are). It is a bit odd for someone off Idol to go straight to a cover, but it’s an obscure cover so that will barely register. I think some fans were invested in the singer-songwriter meme, so that is probably why it’s throws some off in regards to that (especially that one interviewer in Maine who brought it up in Adam’s interview). I guess I see now what is meant by AI “expectations” and lowering them. However, outside of fan noise and the AI bubble, it doesn’t really matter there and it’s rather unrelated to outside buzz.

Having said that, while I find the song catchy (I’m a terrible gage for that as almost anything gets stuck in my head), I think the Slezak thing is a bit OTT. But he’s a fan, so go for it.

Me, too, Sherena. The 22 second clip sounds like any white boy singer, could be anyone, generic, where’s the Kris Allen uniqueness and piano-bench-dancing sultry edge, IMHO. Over on ontd_ai they are saying that the DJs on Boston’s mix 104.1 are saying Kris will perform 4 songs at that End of the party on Saturday — and implying that one of the 4 will be this new single (David Gray will evidently be doing 7 songs)

I wondered that. But they really seemed to be offended (IMO) instead of just bashing…which is why I found it strange.

soveryMel said that PH has promoted the Script so maybe they actually are that familiar. Who knows. It’s just a little annoying that they seem to be mocking him for doing it when it wasn’t his call at all.

I was listening to the radio in Houston today. Most of the songs on the top 40s radio station sounded a lot like Kris’ song. I will be optimistic that it will do great. However, reserving judgement until I hear the entire song.

I don’t listen to much radio. Thank goodness I have a friend that downloads music on my ipod for me. Do they have night classes that teach you how to do tech stuff like that? I have itunes pass so I’m looking for Kris’s record on that.

ITA – this, in a nutshell, is Kris, imo. And what I expected him to do with his album.

The song is very radio friendly – it may not break any molds, but then, that’s not what any of us should have really expected, nor do I think it would have been a wise move for Kris and Jive.

I think it’ll be really interesting, now, to hear what the rest of the album is like. This song sounds exactly like a “Kris song” to me – which leads me to wonder, are the other tracks going to be similar, or will they take it into other directions – and if so, where? Romantic, emo, light-hearted, fun, angsty? Hmm…

I’m so excited for Kris. It’s all finally happening now. Yay!!! That he’ll get to debut on Monday. I really think this will be a strong radio tune and it will proliferate quickly.

I’ve already said on previous threads it’s irrelevant to me that it’s a cover and I think it’s extremely catchy. I just pray Kris’s style and inflection really come through. I would hate to think we couldn’t tell him apart from other artists just by the sound of his voice and his unique style.

As a first-time AIer (yes it’s cliche, Kirsten, but it’s true), this is the first time I’ve had a “personal” connection with an artist before the release of their first single. It’s really very exciting. It’s like a friend will be on the radio.

(Actually, that’s not true, back in my L.A. days, I knew quite a few successful artists before they hit big, but I seriously never had the emotional attachment that I have to Kradison, which is bizarre.)

I’ve read some positive responses on Perez. It’s not a site I care to frequent, though. I read a few that lauded the merits of The Script. Many fans, also said they loved what they heard of the snippet. I think every fan of The Script should be happy about Kris Allen doing one of The Script’s songs. It’s a PR coup. They’re not that well-known in the States. If Kris’s song takes off, they win even more. I don’t see the downside for The Script. The song didn’t work on their CD, which doesn’t mean it didn’t make the cut because it was bad. Some artists like to have a cohesive album and some songs, although worthy, just don’t fit.

From a personal standpoint, I think the song is very cool and Kris’s vocals are really, really good. I can’t wait to hear how he does the verses. I think I’m going love the song, even more. I’m really surprised how pleased I am that it is a song of the Script’s. I decided to buy the CD a few weeks back and really started getting into them. I hear a bit of The Police in them, as well.

It’s all good, as far as, I’m concerned. Carry on with the drama, if it brings pleasure …

I never heard of the Script and haven’t listened to there verison. Maybe after I hear Kris’s verison I’ll try to listen to them. But I want to hear how Kris does his first. I at first didn’t want to listen to there’s at all,but am kind of getting interested in the way they sing there’s. But I want to hear Kris first. Because even thou people say Kris is doing a cover to me it well be Kris’s. Does he really sound like the lead singer? I think the song fits Kris he really was very sick at one time and could have died. Maybe that’s why his singing this song. I hope if they interview him Monday that, they ask Kris how this came about being his single. But the 23 seconds I really enjoyed. My daughter loved it and she isn’t even a Kris fan, she loves Danny to pieces. But she sure wants this for her i-pod. She’s more of a country lover.

I think that if you like Kris, there is a really good chance you will like The Script. I don’t think Kris sounds like the lead singer but Kris has a similar musical vibe. ilovekrisallen39, I’d say Danny O’Donaghue, lead singer of The Script, sounds more like Jason Mraz than Kris Allen, though of course, that’s not accurate either.

I just listened to it. I really enjoyed it am listening to Breakeven right know and like this one too. Maybe i’ll download a few to my i-pod. I really like Danny’s voice alot. His sure a cutie too. Yeah Kris doesn’t sound like Danny. I still don’t want to listen too there verison of llwd until after Kris sing’s his verison, but afterwards I think I well. Z100 is the favorite of my daughters. I love 101.5 We’re always arguing about what station to listen to. Love my Jersey guys. Oh well. My 14 year old daughter and I liked Kris’ song a lot! Hoping the best for him!!

Boy I hardly every tryed alot of new singers until Idol. It’s crazy how a reality show can make people so crazy.

I was really into music back in the 70s and 80s, then didn’t pay much attention to new stuff in the 90s. It wasn’t till the 2nd season of AI (and 1st season of CI) that I started checking out new artists again.

For all the criticism of the Idol format (much of it valid), it HAS helped re-kindle my interest in pop and rock music.

ok, I’ve to admit that initially I was in the “disappointed” camp because he’s doing a cover. BUT I’ve changed my views after reading all those critics’ reviews and fans’ comments. To me, it does not matter that it is a cover anymore as long as it SELLS. I believe that his record label must have given a lot of thought process before deciding to make this his single. A single might not be the best song from the album but must have that kind of catchy hook which is why this song has great potential to be a radio hit. I’m feeling extremely optimistic that there will be great songs on his album.

I honestly could care that it’s a cover, having never heard of The Script prior to two days ago. I just want it to do well.

So, you see, The Script is already benefiting from this association. Exactly what TPTB wanted as The Script is under the RCA umbrella. It also benefits Kris giving him an identifiable musical genre. Whether we want to believe it or not, TPTB on occassion know what they’re doing. I’m as excited as Michael S. and Jim C. right about now.

iTunes released The Script’s “Before The Worst” as their free Single of the Week on 11/12/2008. Go check your iTunes; you may have it in there. I find stuff all the time I didn’t remember downloading! (It’s a good song, BTW.)

I actually think that any song that Kris does will be a Kris song, I mean he makes it a Kris song, who would have guessed that Kayne’s Heartless or Donna Summer’s SWHFTM would become Kris songs…
