For the first time ever…Kris Allen performed one of his pre-Idol songs! At the famed Joe’s Pub last night in New Work City, Kris sang a fan-favorite called “Wipe it Away” from, what is technically his first CD, Brand New Shoes.

He recorded the album while still in college and MP3s from the disc made their way around the internet during the competition, and after his win–tiding fans over until his “real” debut album the eponymous Kris Allen was released later in the year.

The tune is lovely, and reveals Kris had a knack for songwriting at a young age.

Check it out below.

He’s already had cuts on several people’s albums. His most recent cut was on Daniel Powter’s latest album, which came out in July or August. Also had cut on Javier Colon’s album and albums from two South African Idol contestants, as well as well on Morrison’s cd.

He wrote at least one song a couple of weeks ago with Jon McLaughlin & Jason Casto. It will be interesting to see if that song ends up on one of the guys’ album, or if they pitch it for another artist or for film/tv placement.

Thank you for the link! What a great show by Kris and the band. They were on fire with every song. Very happy (and jealous!) for everyone here that got to go! :D

‘Wipe It Away’ is beautiful. The musical interlude in ‘Monster’ seriously kicks butt. All of the songs were excellent! :)

It was great to be able to see this on Live Stream.

I hope that he will keep the “question-mark-song” on his set list, it is exciting to see what he will sing next.

I was in disbelief that Kris actually consented to perform a song from BNS. Excitment beyond words was my reaction watching it on the livestream lol. I like every song from that album, but my favorite is I Was Played. Maybe he’ll surprise us with another one someday. I think he planned doing this at some point because he didn’t forget any of the lyrics ;p
