mj, if you actually click on the dates on KAO, they make clear that Kris is opening for Keith on those state fair gigs. Great opportunity for Kris to appeal to new fans–Keith has a lot of crossover fans.

And I agree with you–his duet with Keith at the finale was great! I think there’s a good chance they’ll do that duet when they do these shows.

  • MawMaw

Not the tour schedule I’d hoped for. I was hoping he’d do a tour similar to what Daughtry did the first time. Closest he is to me, Indianapolis, is almost 200 miles away. Darn!

BUT, I love that he’s opening for Daughtry in Pennsylvania, even if it’s completely out of the question for me to go. Thank heaven for YouTube.

  • jtoms

onerepublic, daughtry, keith urban, and a string of radio events? hmm…that’s quite the spread in audiences there. although the daughtry one just seems like a one-off. hopefully they have some sort of strategy behind this and not just sticking him anywhere that fits.

i’m still hoping for a college tour though. i think he’d shine in that setting, although summer isn’t the best season conducive to that LOL.

  • Eileen99

Love the Kris/Keith pairing! Just come a little closer to the Northwest though!

  • gulfluv

Wow, Kris opening for Keith Urban is a little surprising, but completely AWESOME! I’m going to nickname those dates as “the beautiful men tour” :) I really liked their AI duet too, as it was a treat for the ears and the eyes. I guess I live in the shallow end of the pool sometimes, but I don’t even care. I just hope there is a beautiful men tour date added somewhere near me!

  • fanaround

I loved the Kris and Keith duet. I still think this is kind of weird. Kris has said at least 15 times in interviews that he doesn’t want to do country, and in the Slezak interview he said he was surprised when they told him his finale spot was with Keith Urban, of course then he said how awesome Keith was to work with and how quickly they got it together. Maybe a good strategy for new fans? Who knows.

  • oceana

These gigs sound totally awesome for Kris. This gives him experience, and exposes him to new audiences.

  • evanjane

I’m pretty excited about the Kris/Keith concert dates. I may even take a trip to Vermont to see them. I’m not a country fan, but I’m a huge Keith Urban fan. There’s a distinction in my book. I always viewed Kris as a crossover artist and Keith Urban certainly is as well, although Keith is country at heart and Kris is pop/rock. Is It Over has a blues/country vibe to me and felt it could work in the country genre. Keith is cool and is a member of Kimmel’s Handsome Men’s Club. LOL I’m also happy to see Kris opening for Daughtry, too. Kris is an extremely versatile artist, appealing to an array of people and fitting into a multiple of genres.

I was also happy to see The Script saying word for word what I stated months ago when the whole LLWD controversy struck on this board. Being right is its own reward. ::smile::

  • jmom376

Evanjane: I was just getting ready to say something “The Script” related too. Just as Kris playing a “The Script” song exposes new fans to both artists, I think Kris Playing at Fair’s with Keith Urban will do the same thing. Having these two play together in the Fair atmosphere will expose both artists to new listeners. I think this is an awesome opportunity for Kris and I don’t think it will hurt Keith at all. I am excited to see so many new tour dates and I really doubt this is it.

  • cookcricket

I’m so excited!!! My husband’s having me check out prices to the Indianapolis State Fair!!! He’s a big Keith Urban fan! I couldn’t ask for anything better! Did I mention, I’m sooooo Excited!!! Woot, Woot!!!!! Yay!!!!

I think this pairing is awesome as others have said!

  • girlygirl

Kris is going to get some exposure to different fanbases by opening for OneRepublic, Keith Urban and for Daughtry, plus he’s also got a bunch of solo gigs as well. So this seems like a good alternate strategy since they’ve been slow to book him on an actual tour. Maybe they will do these gigs and then send him on a college tour in the fall.

I’m not a country fan, but Keith Urban’s cool, so maybe I will head to Paso Robles in late July.

  • BigNLiddle

I’ve seen Keith Urban in concert when Carrie was touring with him – he puts on one hell of a show. Wasn’t a big fan of him before that, but now? Love. Him.

I was stoaked to hear that Keith was coming to my neck of the woods (Vermont), but was disappointed to hear that the ticket prices were THAT high. I really wanted to see him.

But now that Kris is opening up for him, I definitely DID Just spend 200$ to see the two live in Vermont.

    I love Idol. :D

  • danoutoflurking

Keith and Kris are a great pairing. I would go just for the guitar playing alone (if they were coming anywhere near me…boo)!

  • Masieta

I think a Kris and Keith pairing will be great for each, and it says a lot about Kris, that Keith must have enjoyed working with him on AI for Keith to be willing to have Kris open for him. It’s not only a beautiful men tour – if their wives are able to attend a concert or two it will be a beautiful people tour. It would be great if Katy gets to interact with Nicole Kidman – awesome all the way around.

  • JudyL

Really happy about the Kris/Keith pairing. Especially happy considering Keith is popular enough that he could choose whoever he wanted to open for him. I can’t even imagine how thrilled Kris must be.

I definitely DID Just spend 200$ to see the two live in Vermont.

Wow, tickets are that expensive? But good for you, this is one show I would spend big bucks to see, too. You’re going to have a great time.

  • steph6449

Would you consider this a tour, or a series of events? I’m not sure.
Danny actually has an event sometime in the summer where he’s on the billing of a country music festival the same day as Keith Urban and some other acts. But I wouldn’t consider Danny as “opening” for Keith that day in the sense that he is a regular opening act on the Sugarland Incredible Machine Tour.

Either way, though, good for Kris that he’s getting out to some dates that look like they will have large audiences. If those are state fair events vs. country music festivals, it may be they have a mix of acts where it could make sense to include a more pop-oriented act like Kris, in addition to country artists like Keith.

(And either Daughtry or Keith Urban seems to be a much better fit for Kris than that JoBros rumor a while back, lol)

  • jonoave

I’m a fan of OneRepublic, so I’m glad they’re doing a show together. It would be good exposure for both.

  • fanaround

Ah, I totally agree now with everyon else’s points about the range provided by one republic, Keith Urban and Daughtry. They should all be great.

    Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMK I FLOVED KRIS AND KEITH’s duet!!!!!!!!

    And I loved apologize!!!

    And I like daughtry !!

    So yeah,for me,this tour is a WIN

    y/mfy?

Would you consider this a tour, or a series of events? I’m not sure.

A tour is a series of events, LOL! It’s the “series” part that makes it a tour. It’s not that strange for a tour to include different kinds and sizes of venues, like casinos, fairs, theaters, clubs. Artists also jump around between opening for other people and being headliners all of the time too, especially new artists. Mixing it up so that the artist is exposed to as many different kinds of audiences as possible is the best thing for a new artist to do, IMHO.

  • Indigobunting

Congrats to Kris on his appearances!

I like the college tour for Kris better too; think that is his big audience and he excels at the intimate settings, but exposure to fans of other artists is always a good thing =)

  • steph6449
Would you consider this a tour, or a series of events? I’m not sure.

A tour is a series of events, LOL! It’s the “series” part that makes it a tour.

Sorry, I realized a minute ago I wrote that question a dumb way :) I’m probably overly focused by the Sugarland case with Danny, but for that example of a country act on tour — they have dates that are part of a recurring roster of supporting acts going out with them from April through October. Those are being booked into a variety of arenas/amphitheaters/etc around the country. Danny is one of the supporting acts for these tour package dates — so far the one most frequently listed on the dates where opening acts are identified.

But…there are also a handful of misc. dates that don’t look like the others, where Sugarland is joining Lilith Fair on one occasion, hitting a special country festival, or some other one-off event. In those cases, Danny and the other supporting acts on the Incredible Machine Tour are normally _not_ with Sugarland. And Sugarland appears either on their own, or with other misc. acts depending on the date.

So what I’m wondering, is if Kris’s appearances are more like the latter cases, or the former, or something in between. Keith Urban’s site shows that he may be hitting a lot of dates in festival / state fair type formats, where maybe he doesn’t need to have regular opening acts? http://www.keithurban.net/tourdates.html

I think it’s the Country Stampede act in late June, where Danny is booked the same date as Keith and Darius Rucker.

  • KNA

I am surprised to hear that Kris is opening for Keith Urban when he has often said that he’s not interested in doing Country music. And this must be a first – the winner of AI opening for a 4th place runner-up. I actually would prefer a college tour. Neverless, it’s good that Kris is getting his name out there.

  • claudette

I think this is great news for Kris. He can do a college tour in the fall when school’s back in session.

I’m not a big fan of country music but I like Carrie, Keith and some others. Daughtry worked his way don’t forget. He opened for others. That’s how you get a big following.

  • girlygirl

    KNA

I think that anyone coming off last year’s Idol show would open for Daughtry. Doesn’t matter about where they finished on the show — matters how they are perceived in the music world. Daughtry’s got 2 platinum selling albums and a boatload of hit singles and a handful of AMA nominations. Wouldn’t make sense for him to open for Kris — he wouldn’t open for David Cook or Jordin or Taylor, either if they were on a bill together. Nor would he open for Adam or David Archuleta.

  • girlygirl

Kris could play some college dates now, but since school lets out in May, it might make more sense to wait until the fall when he could put together a longer tour rather than just a handul of dates. Hopefully by then he will have another hit single to go along with LLWD and maybe even seen a boost in his album sales.

  • barnie

And this must be a first – the winner of AI opening for a 4th place runner-up. I actually would prefer a college tour.

A VERY successful 4th place runner up who has gone way beyond the Idol bubble and had international concerts.

  • cakeygirl

i remember during idol when ryan tedder said adam was gonna sing “come home” but the “other guy” was singing “apologize” that night lol….neways good ppl for kris, im sure simon fuller made the daughtry-kris connection since he manages both of them

  • AIaddict

I’ve read most of the comments here so I just have to chime in and say that I am totally excited about all these tour dates. I too love One Republic, Daughtry and Keith Urban so being a huge Kris fan I am so happy for him. He has to be thrilled! Really hoping that a couple of Florida dates are added in there somewhere though. oh and Kris looks great in that white shirt in the picture mj posted, I might add!

  • girlygirl

    cakeygirl

maybe, but Kris and Chris Daughtry actually wrote a song together this summer…it is one of the bonus cuts on the Wal-Mart edition of Kris’s album. And Kris has talked about Daughtry mentoring him a bit, especially about balancing touring with married life. So I think the 2 guys are friends

  • Mtlfan

I was bummed at first that there was nothing in Eastern Canada.

BUT….. YAYAYAYAYAYYAY the Vermont show is only a 1h1/2 drive from Montreal…. flailing hard here!!!!

Just bought 2 tickets for this show :D
I didn’t know of Keith Urban before the finale of Idol (i’m definitly not your country fan) but I like his song “kiss a girl” (hope to see Kris duet with him??) and I read a bit on him and he’s supposed to give one good show. Also he’s not pure country (by chance). But am I glad to get finally to see Kris and his band that night!!!
and hmm, I’m not ruling out going to Bahamas either.

Keith Urban’s site shows that he may be hitting a lot of dates in festival / state fair type formats, where maybe he doesn’t need to have regular opening acts? http://www.keithurban.net/tourdates.html

Keith’s state fair concerts are his own shows, not part of any festival where you’d have 6 acts playing a stage starting in the afternoon. Keith would need one opening act for his state fair shows, major headliners usually bring one. For example I remember Carrie having people like Keith Anderson and Rodney Atkins opening for her at some state fair shows she did a couple summers ago in between the two legs of her Carnival Ride tour.

It looks like Keith has decided to bring Kris along for his state fair gigs. That’s a great vote of confidence from 1 of country music’s top headliners and I’m surprised it went to somebody outside the country genre because being the sole opening act for somebody like Keith Urban would be a HUGE deal for a country newbie. But it’s cool how their duet bore some fruit.

Kris fans who go to the shows are in for a treat with Keith :) I think the state fair shows usually involve a shorter set because there’s less time given to the acts but even still it should be a great show.

  • martha

Opening for Keith Urban and opening for Daughtry- wow ! Kris is set, and add fair and other gigs -Kris will do very very well financially and career wise this year. This is all great news for his fans and this also will really boost album sales. His career has gotten a really great start.

  • http://MJO judes

“And this must be a first – the winner of AI opening for a 4th place runner-up. “

For Daughtry now – coming 4th on AI is irrelevant. He is now a headline act & Kris is just starting out trying to earn a reputation & gain more fans !!
I think all three , One Republic , Keith & Daughtry fit really well with Kris’s style!!
I normally hate true country style but Keith is more in the Eagles style of music & I’ve always loved them as well as Keith. [ Of course being an Aussie I also have a soft spot for Keith!!]Also – he & Nicole are big fans of American Idol – so I think they would be very supportive of Kris !

  • anovich

Kris opening for Keith Urban is huge. From what I know Keith can easily have his pick of anyone to open for him. That he chose Kris is amazing. Guess that duet at the finale was more important than anyone would have imagined. And Keith seemed genuinely happy to see Kris on the AMA red carpet as well. Maybe Nicole Kidman will help Katy out too :)

  • steph6449

I was surprised also that Keith Urban would go to someone outside the country genre if he is picking a supporting act to go with him. There are probably a couple of dozen country acts who would wish to be in that spot, and whose music would be better known to Keith’s fans. I haven’t seen Kris in concert since the AI Tour where he seemed kind of reserved to me as a performer. I hope he will be comfortable enough to do well in that type of environment.
It will be interesting to see what this looks like when the various venues begin advertising. I didn’t see any just now on a quick sample, except one that had Keith in their promotions for the PA state fair.

ITA. These guys are in the real world now. Where they finished in the Idol competition doesn’t matter.

I think this is great for Kris. I’ve never been a big fan of idols headlining their own tours to start. It’s much better (IMO) to open for an established artist and expose your music to new audiences rather than playing to basically the same group of diehards night after night.

Yes the Asian tour was quite something. I could not believe how he is growing as a performer. Two videos I really like are the ANS-Take 2 and Come together- the one where he falls back into the crowd.

you can check the ones from Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia); they are of better quality in general

Kris has grown tremendously as a live performer since the tour. He is a definite crowd pleaser with a really great stage presence. If you’re interested in seeing just how uninhibited Kris has become, look up some of the videos from his 3-day Asian concerts, complete with body surfing in the crowd.

  • Truthiness

The Keith Urban thing is big, good for him. And yeah, I know, redudant point is redundant, but Kris has a nice spread with doing some of his own stuff, and opening for Keith at times, One Republic in other places and the Daughtry thing.

I think that Keith’s big crossover audience could really like Kris, and he seems to be pretty popular, so sounds like an excellent gig. Now I really don’t like Keith Urban’s music, and the One Republic stuff isn’t near me, so personally, I’m SOL, but career-wise…good move.

  • Mtlfan

ITA. These guys are in the real world now. Where they finished in the Idol competition doesn’t matter.

ITA. And it’s great that he can fit 3 different headliners like Urban, Daughtry and One Republic. Kris is versatile in a southern way; although he’s strongly on the pop side, there are those blues and in a lesser extent modern country influences in his music.

I agree with Martha that he is having a great career start this year

  • TwigLA

I think all these tour dates are great and I love the thought of Kris on the same bill with Keith Urban. I love Keith and I agree he’s more in the Eagles vein than traditional country.

I wonder what he’ll be doing in June. That seems wide open. Also, when is Idol Gives Back and the Finale?

  • Paulie

This is exciting news. As someone who’s grown to love Daughtry and Keith Urban, I’m kinda jealous to those who will be seeing them with Kris. Interesting mix of genres (especially with Keith) but I guess that’s Jive/19′s way to have Kris reach a wider audience.

Agree with those who said Kris has grown as a performer. I’ve seen him live when he was here in MNL last month, and compared to the Idols live tour I’ve seen in Youtube, the improvement was HUGE.

BTW, do you guys have more info about the Arlington gig with OneRepublic? I have colleagues staying near the area and I’m recommending that they check it out. Details the Six Flags site say tickets are available with the entrance pass, but I’m guessing there’ll only be limited numbers?

I really don’t think you’ll regret it! Keith Urban is an amazing guitarist. We have a DVD of one of live shows and my fav. from it is “Free Fallin’”! It’s just going to be an awesome show all around!

  • wand3rful

does anyone know if the Los Angeles CBS show is private? must you win tickets?

  • colette

The Keith Urban match-up sounds great. In an interview that I can no longer find, probably with some Aussie newspaper, Keith said he enjoyed playing with Kris on the show and that young people like him can grow in leaps and bounds as an entertainer. I think it was meant positively — that Kris had the stuff to grow from a newbie with very little live performing experience before big crowds, into a real musical showman.

One question: is this the sort of thing Jive sets up? Does Kris have control over his professional life at this juncture, or is it all TPTB?

  • tripp_ncwy

Let’s not forget about the duet Daughtry and Vince Gill did at the 2009 CMA’s. Branching out into different genres is not unprecedented. Kris’s professional life is most likely more in the hands of Stirling McIlwaine as his manager who has guided Daughtry’s career.

  • Ratna12

Mtlfan: Congratulation for your tickets. It’s so exciting to have something to look forward too.

This is so great for Kris. To open to different genres of musical acts. And the country fans are CD buying people I guess, and hopefully they will be impressed with Kris and check out his CD.
Remember when people were commenting that maybe Kris is better to go country. This way, Kris stays true to himself and yet be exposed a little bit to the country fans. Hopefully he’ll get interviewed in CMT Insider / other country media.

I went to Carrie Underwood & Keith U concert 2 years ago. I was so surprised how much NOT country his music was. Incredible guitar player and singer.I think it is more pop than country. I can’t wait to see his jam w/ Kris. There was a Carrie & Keith duet at the time, so hopefully there will be one also w/ Kris.

Oh gosh, the amount of girls’ / women’s screams in that concert will be high. Yeah, Kris and Keith :beautiful singers + Cale + Andrew.

thanks cookcricket, i checked “free fallin” and liked it. One thing is that he’s an amazing guitar player. He’s engaging a lot with the crowd, so that’s cool points. Also he’s not ugly isn’t it? ;)

  • didilynn

This is GREAT news for Kris – those are really well known headliners – and Keith Urban isn’t all that country – I’d say he’s country the same way that Taylor Swift is, although he’s a better singer IMO. The Keith/Kris duet on the finale was great – their voices sound good together so hope they do a duet at some point.

The original comment that Kris was reserved on the tour? That may have been your observation but I guess it wasn’t mine. Kris has never been reserved onstage, to me. He’s always putting everything into it, be it an electric guitar solo or an emotional ballad. He’s pretty intense.

Nowadays, I think Kris is mainly more relaxed, and he’s gotten more at home in front of big audiences. And he’s obviously happier not having to stick to the rigid tour program, so he’s more spontaneous and having more fun.

  • Kate8

Kris looks like he has a great tour schedule. It is great that he is opening for Keith Urban on some tour dates and Chris Daughtry and has some separate gigs too.

April 23 – Las Vegas, NV, Opening for Keith Urban at the Hard Rock.

I went to the Hard Rock Hotel web Site and on the right side of Keith’s name, there is no icon to buy tickets, eventhough all the other acts on that site have one. Wonder why ?
And Kris is special guest ? Wonder how long Kris will sing ?

A little bio of Keith Urban from the Champlain Valley Fair’s website:

In 2001, the Country Music Association honored Keith Urban with its Horizon Award, designating him a talented artist with a bright future. Eight years later, he’s a two-time Grammy Award winner, and he still remains the only CMA Horizon Award winner in history to go on to win the CMA’s Entertainer of The Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, a title he’s captured three times. Keith has sold more than 10 million CDs, had 12 #1 singles, another 20 Top 5 hits as well as 3 consecutive #1 albums. He’s won 5 Country Music Association Awards and 5 Academy of Country Music Awards. Most recently, Keith was named Best Male Country Vocal Performance at the Grammy Awards.

Needless to say it’s an honor and a great opportunity for Kris to open for him!

I’m sure they’ll be very supportive & courteous. The Keith fans I know are all pretty classy.

  • jpfan

Wow. Kris opening for Keith Urban and Danny for Sugarland. Those are some pretty awesome gigs 19 has arranged for them. I wonder why the tours are so different from last year where Cook went solo and Archie only opened for Demi Lovato after his own headlining tour.
Daughtry didn’t open for Bon Jovi until they did a headlining tour and a platinum album.

In other words I’m very impressed that Kris got such a great gig this early in his career.

  • Ratna12

Looking at Kris schedule, there are such a mix of small acoustic gigs, fairs, and opening for big name acts. But the one wonderful glaringly different thing is March 26 – April 3 – TOMS Shoes -Kris will be dropping off pairs of 35,000 shoes for children in Rwanda.

Pure Kris, he can mix his passion for charity and his love of performing his music. I LOVE that, and love him.
And that picture of him w/the white shirt – SIGH.

  • cookcricket

Woot! Just got my tickets! Yay! :D

  • breakdown

I’ll skip the expensive Keith Urban show in Las Vegas but the April 10th date is a no-brainer for me. I should have some videos of that one.

  • LolaGlamb

Sooo happy for Kris. I knew from the time I saw him on Idol tour that he had staying power. Not easy following the bombastic Adam, but he did it beautifully. At both the Idol Tour and the NYC Kradison concert, I primarily went to see Adam, but got double my money’s worth with Kris. He is special, and I will always support and want the best things for him. A decent and good person. And yes,the white shirt…

Oh yeah-Allison kicks butt, and her new song, Scars, is superb. However, my favorite of hers is Trouble Is. Give it a listen on AOL Sessions

    WAY TO GO, KRIS!

  • http://MJO judes

Congrats to all those who have tickets to one of these concerts. You know we’ll want to hear all about it though!! Be prepared!!

“Surprise pairing, especially when Kris has gone on record to say he is not interested in doing Country music.”

AML -if you take a listen to some of Keith’s music its barely country- there’s a lot of “rock” in there!! With Kris- what is “Pop” these days anyway ? Kris seems to be going with the performers that he relates to rather than a particular genre of music!!
So – I really don’t think Kris is going to “branch out” into Country music very soon- more likely is branching out to the fans of Country which is a very smart move as they buy a lot of albums!!!

  • tiger92

Keith Urban is a country music artist. He really isn’t “like the Eagles”. He grew up listening to country legends and that’s what kind of music he has always wanted to write, play and sing. I know “You’ll Think of Me” crossed over 5 or 6 years ago and was a big hit on AC radio. “Kiss the Girl” has also found some success on AC radio. Most of Keith’s other singles have had their rise on the country music charts.
I guess you could call Keith country/pop, but his roots are deep in the country music world.
I’m sure Kris will fit just fine doing an opening set for Urban. A couple of Kris’ songs sound a little country and his voice can sound country sometimes also. Maybe he can work in a couple of country/pop covers into his set.

  • vanjess38

    AML,
I don’t think the pairing is a suprise at all. I remember Kris gave an interview sometime after winning when the press were really questioning him on the Country route because of the duet with Keith.
As you mentioned, he said he wasn’t going that route and spoke about how he enjoyed performing with Keith. But I also remember him saying that speaking of country, Keith Urban is not country at all
I just can’t remember which article it was.
And I think I agree with him. Keith is more of a pop/rock/country artist and if he picked Kris to open for him, then damn it’s all respect and how much he sees similarities between their audience.
Also, it’s a smart career move on the part of Kris’ management IMO. Why play to the sme crowd everytime?
I think it’s better than booking a solo gig for any of these kids who are just starting, where the same idol fans will travel from all over the world and country to attend. It doesn’t help one’s career at all and it doesn’t gain them any new fans. I think TPTB has learnt from past mistakes.
I’m very happy for Kris because to open for someone like Keith Urban is HUGE.

  • http://MJO judes

Yep Tiger – you are right when you say Keith has roots deep in the country world – what I was saying was that Keith is nothing like the “twangy & nasily” country style artists which I can’t stand. I think what some of us were saying is that artists like Keith have given country more credibility in the wider world of music & for Kris to be associated with him is only positive !!
Oh & I’ll agree to disagree with the you about the Eagles- my husband’s a big fan – we’ve been to 2 of their concerts & have many albums of theirs which are varied in music style. Perhaps Keith can be more rocky at times – but both are on the “edge “of true country style!!

  • Mtlfan

I’m very happy at Jives; I think they are managing Kris career very well!

this is OT, but i just found this video of “Let it Rain”. Someone is drawing on a board in relation to the lyrics. It’s very cute

Yep-same thing here. The Eagles were the first concert I ever attended. I’ve seen them 3 other times. They can be categorized as country-rock with people like Dylan. They are, however, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. (sometimes they are soft rock or rock)
Keith Urban is not classified as country rock, nor would he qualify for the R & R Hall of Fame. I’m sure one day he will be inducted into the country music Hall of Fame.

  • Keel

So if you take out the radio station promo gigs (acoustic, lounge, mixers, etc.), which to me don’t belong in the same bucket as a real concert (not even in the same league as Jingle Balls actually), what Jive and/or 19 have got firmed up for Kris so far are 7 headlining or co-headlining concerts and 6 opening gigs (for some pretty high profile acts) stretched over 7 months. I’m excited about the opening gigs but I’m certainly not jumping up and down on the rather sparse headlining/co-headlining dates. Hopefully the schedule fills out a bit more.

  • hoosiermama

Oh my! I’ve got to check with my Kris-stan friend about getting tickets for the Indiana State Fair. Date works and it’s only a 3 hr. drive. Yay to cookcricket for already getting tickets! And double yay to Mtlfan for the VT show! This is exciting and a bit surprising news–Kris and Keith–who knew?

Like TwigLA, I’m wondering what is happening in June? Lots of openings still in July as well. But Kris is off to a great start! So happy for him.

  • Daniel B

Kris Allen opening for Daughtry? Very very cool pairing. I admit, it makes me wish it was Kris opening for David Cook opening for Daughtry. That would Legend – wait for it – ary.

Oh, and that’s nice that he got a big chunk of Keith Urban whoever’s tour too. Heh, not to make light of that because I know he’s a huge country star, but to me the real story that I’m still digging is the whole one-Idol-opens-for-another-Idol, that’s just awesome. I don’t think it’s happened before (and no I don’t count Adam and Kris opening for David Cook because that was when both were fresh off Idol and neither had their own albums and it wasn’t a regular tour stop for Cook and it wasn’t a full show anyway just a couple of exhibition songs)

I’m betting just the sheer novelty of the pairing will make for a huge show, possibly sold out early.

  • druzilla

I hope this improves sales and gets Kris to a second album.

  • fanaround

This is all going to be great. I saw him in Manila, in front of about 15,000 people and he was hugely energetic and entertaining. This should make him interesting to people who otherwise would never have heard of him or might not think he would translate from the TV to a concert. I wonder where they are thinking these sort of random-seeming, spread across potentially different fan bases events are leading? I hope it’s leading somewhere coherent from his management. Maybe the college tour in the fall suggested by others…

  • koshka

Oh, the irony. I got skewered a few weeks ago for suggesting that Kris would do well taking his pop variety of music and marketing it as a cross over to country audience at some point in the future. I guess TPTB thought something a little similar.

Anyway, I think Daughtry and Keith are great selections. Its always best for all the idol folks to tag a long on tour with some big names. Gaining a new audience is essential.

  • savgal

Well, doggone! NOTHING FOR US IN THE DEEP SOUTH????
I for one am stoked for Kris. Would love to see him also have a number with Keith and Chris D., during the shows. Of course it is totally a coincidence that Kris gets to play with two extremely attractive, married men who are both also about his height. :)

  • babybelle32

I am surprised to hear that Kris is opening for Keith Urban when he has often said that he’s not interested in doing Country music. And this must be a first – the winner of AI opening for a 4th place runner-up. I actually would prefer a college tour. Neverless, it’s good that Kris is getting his name out there.

How does Kris opening for Keith, someone who has had a lot of success on HAC, equate to Kris going country? And considering that he’s also opening for One Republic and Daughtry, neither of whom is a country act, really doesn’t suggest that Kris is doing country music. Besides that, considering that Kris will be performing music off of his album, that statement makes no sense.

As far as the winner opening for someone who came fourth, first of all this isn’t American Idol, so that makes no sense either, and secondly, that fourth place finisher has sold over a five million albums, and has a very substantial and loyal following, that might also like Kris’ music, so why wouldn’t Jive take the chance of linking Kris with him.

  • jmom376

This looks like Kris will have lots of opportunities over the next couple of months to be exposed to new listeners. I always thought it would be a good idea for him to do fairs and that type of thing because of the amount of people that they generally bring in. The fact that he is on the same venue as Keith Urban is huge for Kris. I agree with whoever said above, that in no way does this mean Kris is going Country. It just means that he will be exposed to some people that might not have thought to go to one of his concerts before, but discover that they really like him. No irony here, just a great opportunity versus someone throwing out that he should go country as a perceived insult.

  • evanjane

One of my all-time favorite songs by Keith Urban is STUPID BOY. The guitar playing is amazing. I saw a Crossroads with John Fogarty and Keith Urban and my respect for Keith grew by leaps and bounds. As I said, I’m not a Country fan, but Keith Urban is not your typical country singer. I tried Rascal Flats and couldn’t get into them. The lead singer had too much twang in his voice for my taste. Keith and Kris may have hit it off well. Keith is very successful and I would assume business savvy. If he didn’t feel Kris and his fan base would jive, I don’t think Keith would have said okay to it. Keith may have very well thought of having Kris join him awhile back. They did mesh so well singing KISS A GIRL. It was amazing.

  • vanjess38

I was just listening to him on my ipod and selected some few songs apart from Kiss a girl that are very beautiful and ttracked them on youtube. Those of you that are not familiar with his sound could watch and see how well Kris fits into his concert. He’s not your typical country artist and is sort of pop/rock.

You can never give anything a certainty, but as their #3 seller for 2009, I doubt Kris’s name is one being bandied about by Jive as an artist to drop, especially when 2 of his fellow AI alums, Jordin and Allison, sold significantly less than him in 2009 and Jordin has a lot longer to sell.

    Keith Urban just tweeted!

@KeithUrban: Keith is hitting the road w/ @krisallen for several 2010 shows. The first show is April 23in Vegas. Get more info http://bit.ly/c3PQOS

OMG! And the first three comments are liking the Kris pairing! Kris management just hit the jackpot!

  • calarkie

This is such exciting news for Kris! The night of the finale on Idol, both Keith Urban and Chris Daughtry said they were pulling for Kris to win so I’m excited to hear this news. Also, Kris co-wrote the bonus track “Send Me All Your Angels” with Chris, and Kris & Keiths performance of “Kiss A Girl” was awesome! Kris has always said he’s not going the route of country music and if any country artist is not all that country it’s Keith. Too bad they won’t be close to where I live because I would love to see them!

  • J9BT

    calarkie – ITA!

Kris specifically said in an interview that he was not going to make country music, but that he felt country fans would like his music. It’s been noted that country music fans buy more albums than the typical Pop fans these days, and Kris/Keith were great together on the finale, so I think this is a great opportunity for Kris and am looking forward to attending one of their concerts!

I’m also excited about the Daughtry/OneRepublic pairings. He’ll be gaining exposure to 2 big Pop/HAC fan bases here.

  • sterling

That’s funny…I live in Benton, Arkansas and know Kris…and I’ve never heard of this Saline Summer Daze Festival. Must be something new they are starting, although I can’t imagine where they will have it in Benton that will hold the crowd. Kris’ shows last year sold out in a day or two in Arkansas and even though some of the hype has died down with Idol being over, there will still be a large crowd to see him since that is his only show close to Arkansas. I hope they find a way to make it work.

For what it’s worth, Saline is the county that Benton is in.

  • J9BT

How do we buy tickets to the Borgata event on 8/7? There is nothing on ticketmaster that I could see. I tried to look on-line at the Borgata, but no link.

I did notice, though, on the Borgata website that Kara Dioguardi is listed for a concert on 4/9 and 4/10??? Should this go on the IDOL appearances page? I had no idea she was doing concerts, much less during the IDOL season!

  • madeformusic

I’m glad there are some news about Kris schedule. These look like very good opportunity for Kris :)

I’m also so happy for you girlygirl, Mtlfan, cookcricket and all the others who can go to see one or more of Kris performances. As I can’t, I still hope to get to enjoy tons of recaps and videos and photos. I love all this technology which allows us scorned people to get our share of the fun!

  • SarahP

the one republic pairing is just next week! yay! i love 1R and a kris and 1R pairing would be awesome. and daughtry and keith urban too.

though i live somewhere far away and not be able to go to any of the kris concerts, i’m super excited for those who are (of course you need to get back to us here in the blogosphere with goodies i.e. high quality close up shots of kris and videos hehe)

i know David Archuleta sold 211K on his Christmas Album. what about the numbers for Kris, Allison, and Jordin?

and p.s. congrats to Kris! this seems like a wonderful tour and will definitely open up his fanbase to different genre-listening fans!!! (though i never wouldve paired him up with Daughtry, but One Republic is a near shoe-in!)

I bet Kris is happy he gets to rock the plaid again! I wonder if they’ll lift the “only one plaid shirt per show” rule? heh :)

Sarah P. I would love the MP3 of Kris & Keith if you care to share. I found a full download of BNS if anyone is interested. I listen to it all the time – it is really, really good for a young song writer musician. (I would have bought it if you could buy it – no foul.)

Am going to work out now. Will be back in about 2 hrs…..

OK, I can barely can keep up w/ all the news and Kris hasn’t even started with his tour yet.

And you know what exciting for me is that the videos (hopefully there are some) will be a little bit different because the fans are different. Maybe his performances and banters will be somewhat different too. So exciting !!
