I’m hoping the “cool cover” is MGMT’s “Electric Feel”.

Kris said in a recent interview that he and the band had talked about performing that on tour. Which would be so cool!

They used Cook’s “A Daily AntheM” during the audition part of last season’s Idol. But the boot song usually goes to an “older” Idol. But, who knows. Maybe your speculation is correct.

So many great things happening for Kris. So glad hes doing well! Now its all pretty silly those who were worried about him. LOL.

Lol, I used to be one those ‘worriers’, but not anymore. I’m so happy for him!

I wasn’t a Kris fan during the show and not particularly a fan now, but I will say it’s nice to see Kris getting some momentum. He’s taken a lot of criticism since winning AI8, so it’s kind of heartwarming to see LLWD doing decent and hearing good news about him. Way to go Kris, and best wishes in your career!

Oh, I hate to be greedy. As a Kris fan, I’m really very used to making a “feast from these crumbs,” but I do hope that “a cool cover song” and “a song for a TV show” are 2 different things. Please, please. “Grey’s Anatomy”? “One Tree Hill”? Even the procedural shows use songs at the end. And the boot song, oh yeah, that would be amazing.

I think it all started with ‘Pocket Idol‘ which led to ‘HP‘… which led to the emergence of the ‘PR‘ during the idol tour etc etc

I think HBD is pretty much contained to the Top Idol site. I don’t like that one much, because it implies that none of the other AI8 guys are sexy or good-looking.

HP is the one I see on gossipcandy. Because he’s sexy/good-looking and because he’s not very tall. People like to joke they can stick him in their pocket.

Pocket Idol is used several places and doesn’t really refer to whether or not he’s sexy — just that he’s small and he won AI.

As I watched the Disney World video from yesterday, I also looked at Cale’s face.. I wonder what he thinks of the whole thing.
Didn’t Kris used to open for him in gigs in Arkansas ? Now, because of Kris, he got this opportunity to tour and make all these cool TV appearances, and other things.

That’s why you never know and always be nice to the act / people around you. They may be your next “boss”.

These are great gigs for Kris, good for him. I think I’m going to dvr some of these shows.

But when Kris deliberately tries to be hot/sexy like the “Sexy face” incident, it kinda doesn’t work, he looks cute but not hot. But when you let him be in his natural element (on the piano, with guitar, just talking etc), just let him be, he is so effing hot… so he’s HBD and not HBdeliberation.

Kris never opened for Cale. Kris and Cale performed together at times when Kris was performing in AR. Same as the LITV performance back in November. Cale has always supported Kris anyway he could and now he is reaping some of the benefits of being a supportive and good friend. Cale is also mad talented in his own right and performed in a band he helped form.

Now, on to Kris… I was really looking forward to tonight… Chicago tweets, rumors that Kris will somehow make an appearance in tweet beat, etc. At the end of my day at work today, I found out a bunch of people will be losing their jobs on Monday – I’m a manager, so I get a ‘heads up’. I was very close to having to pick between my 2 closest friends, who just happen to report to me. I narrowly escaped that with a last minute reprieve from the CEO. While this real-life stuff puts all of the idol ridiculousness into perspective, it also reminds me of the power of music and entertainment. Because now, more than ever, I want to lose myself for a couple of hours in music that I love that will make me smile – and in the fangirly tweets which will emerge from tonight’s concert. And, if we’re lucky, the Chicago Kris fans will be on the ball with their video and get us something to watch sooner rather than later.

Oh… and I’m working on the assumption that we have 2 new recordings from Kris. I’m confused… if one is for TV and the other is a ‘cool cover’… why would he be recording a cover, if not for TV? Maybe the cover is the idol boot song, and it’s not being counted as ‘for TV’, and the one for TV is for a scripted show? (insert joke here about idol being scripted).

I never understand that. You think that the organizer wants the publicity.
Anyway, I went to J. Kimmel taping last year and it said on the ticket not to bring any cell phone / camera or it would be confiscated.
I left mine in the car, and when I got into the outdoor concert stage, there were people still with cell phones / camera.

Anyway, I hope there are plenty sneaky people there tonight.

I’m watching Ghost Whisperer and the Colbie Caillat “Fallin For You” song is on.

One of these days I’ll hear a Kris Allen song on a TV show.

A little OOT, I’ve been watching Kris’ LLWD on iTunes like a hawk and am glad to see that he has been selling about the same level as Taylor Swift “You Belong With Me” and KOL “Use Somebody” for the past number of days. He has been hanging around #40-#52 pretty much for this whole week. Currently he is at #42 where taylor Swift at #38 and KOL at #45. I’m happy with this number because I heard KOL and Taylor Swift all the time on radio but not Kris and so it’s good to see LLWD selling like them and has been steady these past few weeks.

Thanks for that bit of news snlw! This is good to know! I hope his album sales don’t drop too much this week from last week. However, if they do hopefully the TV appearances help in the next couple of weeks.

Also, I hope this TV thing is for a scripted show. I’m okay w/ him not getting the boot song if this is the case because it’s not typical for the previous yrs. winner to get this.

snlw: Yes, LLWD’s sales are really stable right now, even with a couple of Christmas songs plus 3 Glee singles ahead of him on iTunes. He should move up a couple of spots at least over the weekend as the Glee songs drop off. I also noticed some Grammy-nominated singles got a bounce this week that were previously beneath him (Boom Boom Pow, You Belong To Me) and are now ahead of him, so he could regain position over them also. Things definitely looking good!

Late to the party, I guess I have to pay smth for that. It’s not anything totally new but some of the “faces” Kris makes are so priceless that it would be a pitty not to check them out:

People aren’t buying Kris’ album, despite all the promo he’s doing. It’s discouraging to me because it’s a good album and people seem to respond well to his appearances and the single has shown staying power on the radio charts. So I don’t get it.

unfortunately I have no idea about these things. As I said twitter was my source for that information but I think it’s reliable.

Girlygirl, some have said here that it’s the second single that moves album units, so what I hope is that the album sales stabilize like LLWD did, and then slowly build over time as Kris has more exposure. That’s what I hope happens anyway. What did he have, a 59% drop last week? I hope it’s not too much under what he sold last week, but we’ll have to just see and let things play out. I do think Adam will have a much bigger drop just due to having no significant radio play right now. Yeah, he’s in the news, but for the music? Not really.

Yeah I saw that on the headlines thread but am hoping that Kris will not have another big drop (<50%).. I think we can't expect people to see/hear him 1 time and rush to buy his CD right away. Just hope they'll after a few more TV appearances to remind them that Kris is a good musician and a great guy. Problem is Kris needs to have some poster/ad around to remind people of him more since he is so invisible to the media unlike Adam. Adam's big drop is expected for me since he had a good 1st week number.

Albums don’t sell too much on itunes and we could see it from the digital figures that cvome with the total sales each week. So it is understandable to see the drops on the itunes chart.
Physical albums sell more than digitals, so don’t panick. Kris will definately sell over 20,000 which is not bad in my books. If he’s able to sell around that every week, he’ll be okay.
I think Jordin has not even sold more than 150,000 albums , I’m not sure of the figure but something like that.
As he plays more songs on the album, it will sell. As at now, people have only heard LLWD on radio and the first two weeks sales is normally from die hard AI fans.
It’s indeed too early to say people are not buying, because apart from we the fans, how many people outside knows about the album?
Lets remember how LLWD fared, when they hearmore songs, they’ll buy and it’s not like singles that peak on charts, albums will be available forever and people buy at their own time.

I think it’s hard to expect people to hear/see Kris one time and rush to buy his CD. I think he needs a little more poster/ad to help his sale as I think that’s very lacking for him. Adam was constantly in the news but Kris wasn’t and so it’s easy to forget him after one performance without further appearances/news. But over time, I’m pretty sure Kris will do fine once he gets more exposure. So hopefully album sales will go more steady after this month or sooner.

As for Adam, it’s expected that he will have a big drop this week esp. since he had a good 1st week. His hardcore fans can’t just keep buying his album every week esp. in this economy. But I think he will do fine too once his new single gets more airplay. So I’m not too worried right now for him or Kris.

He’s currently at #132 and #20 in pop.
Let’s remember that the single had a BIG drop at first (like under #140) to gradually come back up. With his appearances, let’s hope the same happen to the album

Allison’s projected to sell 25,000-30,000, which I don’t think is bad at all. She wasn’t the winner or the runner up. Her promotion has basically just gotten going and she hasn’t got much radio play yet. I wouldn’t call it bad. I’m really not worried about her. The cd she put out is stellar, and there are several really great songs that will make awesome singles. Her fans aren’t fretting over her projected sales.

A radio-friendly song is one that I take to mean sounds like everything else on the radio. That is a double-edged sword because it may fit in, but it may not stand out. While I think CSA is a good song, I think AWM is a standout. I don’t know if it sounds like everything else on the radio, but a lot of hits don’t. They tend to be unique. I Gotta Feeling doesn’t soound like much else on the radio. Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours was something unique at the time.

I think AWM would be very radio friendly in the spring/summertime.

I don’t know if the season matters, though I hear a lot that AWM is a “summer” song. I’m enjoying it right now in the winter, so other people probably could, too.

I hope we do get video or audio of Kris’s set including MitM. I really loved how he did it at the Vineyard. It may not be on his album but I think it’s a good song to show people who are not already fans his real musical talents.

Yes, I agree that AWM is fun and catchy! And while I love Jason (I really do-and I don’t dislike the song either), I personally don’t think his song touches AWM.
I still think people are ready for this type of thing in the summer or even late spring. However, it could do well starting in February too. (Valentine’s Day.) I think if it were released at the right time it would really take off and not just do well, but be a hit!

Alright With Me doesn’t remind me of Castro’s single. They couldn’t be more different. AWM is about a guy who’s chasing and begging a disinterested girl, but “it’s alright with me.” It’s a crazy-obsessive, cool song with a fast tempo that suits the mood. “Let’s Just Fall In Love Again” is a sweet love song about resuming a relationship, and it has a much slower tempo.

I really like Jason’s song but I don’t think it has the same standout quality that AWM has.

Anyway, I guess I don’t see what Jason has to do with Kris.

about Kris ranking on Itune (#132), there are over 50 Christmas or Holidays albums ahead of him. I was thinking that he might not be selling less than if his album was at #80 … just that those albums are selling a lot in this period. To be honest I don’t care which is the next single as long as it is one of the co-written by Kris songs. But if I had to pick one and didn’t care at all about the terms “radio friendly”, top 40, sales etc. I would like “Bring it Back” to be released as a single sometime, so Kris can perform it during his TV or live radio appearences. I would love that just because for me, for you songs like this (or Falling slowly, MITM, TMYFMLove on Idol) highlight his vocals and the emotional connection he can have with what he is singing better than the more up-beat songs. I want non- Idol fans to hear and see that.

I think about this a lot. People who are seeing Kris performing LLWD are seeing one side of him but not the whole artist. He does have a special way with ballads and songs of a personal nature, and he wins converts, I think, with those songs. I don’t see a ballad as his next single but people should hear him perform them.

Myself, I’d rather see Kris do the college tour he was talking about doing, than opening for anyone. I don’t know why. Opening for people is good exposure, but a lot of people don’t really care about the opening act. He would be wonderful headlining his own tour in smaller venues, and I’d really like to see that.

Yeah, but in all honestly, even though this worked for David Cook, Kris apparently does not have the strong fan base that Cook has. The Fray is huge right now, and that would be an amazing outlet or whatever for Kris. It would most definitely build his fan base.

I just keep thinking that if he opened for someone word of mouth would get around to not miss the opener. I truly just want whatever is going to give Kris new fans. It could be a combination of the two really. If he opened for someone at larger venues, but also did some smaller ones on his own this would be ideal.

So (to me) in the ideal world, Kris would open for The Fray and AWM would be his single at the same time.

ETA: I don’t know the answer, but I want fans for Kris who will follow him regardless of how ‘popular’ he is at the moment. I think he’s the kind of artist that has the ability to gain these kinds of fans.

The Fray is huge right now, and that would be an amazing outlet or whatever for Kris. It would most definitely build his fan base ‘ ¦ and quickly.

Only if you assume most people who come to see the Fray are going to become a fans of Kris after seeing him open for them. Which is assuming a lot. It will give him exposure, but whether it builds his fan base, I don’t see how that can be predicted. But the exposure would certainly be a good thing.

I don’t really think Kris needs David Cook’s fan base to do well on a college tour. In fact from what I understand, part of the reason Cook did a college tour was to build a new fan base, not based on his Idol popularity, since Idol fans tend not to be college students. Supposedly some of his concerts were for college students (with college ID) only. I’ve heard this was a strategy to establish new fans away from the Idol fan base of older people and tweens.

I think Kris could do the same.

If I haven’t made that up,I think Kris has actually mentioned that he might do both: college tour and open for someone else. I don’t know if that was just wishful thinking but if this was possible it would be perfect.

I think today during the interview where he talked about the reason he was in the studio (did anyone hear it or is it somewhere posted) he mentioned that they are setting dates for the tour so that’s a little progress from the answer “The only thing I know about the tour is that it starts in February”. We’ll see what happens. I wish everything goes well for him!

heh heh…g’nite everybody!

Kris’ Chicago set was unfreakinbelievable. Four stools – acoustic with drums set off to the side. He killed it. All the non-idol watchers in my section loved him. His set was so smart for that venue. (Auditoruim Theater) I hope someone posts some videos. I want to see them all again!!! heartless mash-up, MITM, can’t stay away, Allright w/ me, and LLWD. GENIUS.

I’m so excited for this. Since day one I’ve said Kris is TV show material. I can see him fitting in on One Tree Hill, just like Tyler Hilton and Gavin DeGraw did when they were on the show. That show is very music-oriented and Gavin DeGraw pretty much got recognized after they used his song on that show, so it could be a great avenue for Kris.

So many songs from his current album are worthy of being used on TV shows. “The Truth” “Bring It Back” and “I Need to Know” are ones I could easily see fitting in on a show like Grey’s Anatomy. I could see Kris singing “Alright With Me” on a show like ABC Family’s Greek.

However, the key here is that he was asked what he was in the studio for, and I don’t think you need to go into the studio and re-record if your music is gonna be used for a scene in a TV show. The only thing I can think of was if he was asked to write a theme song for a new show (which is highly unlikely, I think), or if the TV show is not like a soap or primetime show but maybe a talk show or whatever where he was asked to record a tribute song – “Man in the Mirror” maybe, for a Michael Jackson tribute?

As for the “cool cover song”, as girlygirl mentioned earlier, I think that it could be MGMT’s “Electric Feel”, since Kris mentioned he would like to cover that song sometime (he mentioned this during a Cosmogirl! interview). Other contenders would be But then again, “Man in the Mirror” is a cover song and if he were doing something that was related to a tribute to Michael Jackson, that would still work.

Speculating is exhausting! We might all turn out to be wrong! I’m just excited and hope we find out soon what these mystery items are. Glad Kris is getting this exposure though!

LOL, I kinda caught that too girlygirl. I hope they at least cheered when she pimped Kris.

IT was nice of her to pimp Kris and Kathy and Melissa (101.9 djs) remarked a few times about how cute and adorable Kris was.

Colbie ‘” I didn’t tweet anything negative about her. She’s beautiful, has an amazing voice and is mad talented, but the energy level dipped significantly. An older lady in front of us was actually sleeping by the end of her set.

LOL OMG this cracked me up so bad! Poor Colbie She has a lovely voice.

As for talk on the next single, it could go three ways, IMO:

(1) Radio friendly, radio friendly – LLWD has been getting lots of love from radio, and that’s the traditional way you get your music out. Pick a song that sounds great on the radio and go from there. Two of the most radio-friendly songs on the record are “Can’t Stay Away” and “Before We Come Undone”.

If Kris chooses “Can’t Stay Away”, I guarantee you this will be a radio hit. The song is upbeat enough to engage listeners who aren’t into mellow, acoustic stuff, and it’s familiar enough in sound that Gavin DeGraw and Maroon 5 fans might take notice. It’s also a song that showcases a fun, sexy side to Kris that we might not have seen yet, so this might mean filming a nice video that really shows off Pocket Idol’s hotness, and it could win some ladies over. I mean, Jive knows Kris is hot, so I’m just saying, with a song like CSA, they need to milk Kris’s photogenic quality stat.

If they choose “Before We Come Undone”, this too is a potential radio hit. The main thing I think Kris will benefit from is that this song seems like it could really attract people outside of the Idol bubble, especially younger guys, who like anything pop-rock. It’s also a good song for a segue way into perhaps a slower next single.

2. Back to the Basics – Kris excels with ballads, that is pretty much a given. Most of the performances he has really won people over with – “Falling Slowly”, “Ain’t No Sunshine” and “To Make You Feel My Love” have showcased how great a balladeer he is. The album has a lot of awesome slow songs, and just to tell you how much Kris resonates with people with slow songs, if you click on his album on iTunes, there is a bar that shows which songs are popular among people who buy singles. Basically, on top of the people who buy the entire album, there are people who just pick and choose and buy whatever song they think sounds good. The most popular ones, interestingly enough, are “The Truth” and “Bring It Back” – after LLWD and Heartless.

So if we use this as a gauge to determine which songs people are purchasing on iTunes, this could be the way to go. These two songs are both good. I know a lot of Kris fans don’t like “The Truth” because it sounds least like Kris (maybe because he didn’t write it?), however this songs fits in really well with the current pop-rock atmosphere with The Fray, Augustana, All-American Rejects, etc.

“Bring It Back” would be a nice choice as well because it’s a little more highbrow than “The Truth”, but still really showcases the nuances in Kris’s voice that we love. This song could attract some people who aren’t necessarily interested in poppy stuff.

3. Surprise, surprise! Kris has been accused of playing it safe on this album, and people think BWCU or CSA are shoo-ins for the next single. Maybe Kris wants to surprise people. We all know he loves making song choices that surprise people, so who knows? He might go with “Red Guitar”! It’s his favorite song on the album, and it definitely means a lot to him. It also has been getting a lot of love from fans, so he knows people like this song.

Another surprise choice would be “Alright With Me”. I think it’s too early to choose that song, because it is more appropriate for summer, however from what we have heard of the live performances, this song is a huge crowd pleaser, so how can you go wrong with releasing this? Another surprise release could be “I Need to Know”. When Slezak suggested to Kris that INTK was a single and then changed his mind and said it wasn’t a single, Kris disagreed with him and said he thought it sounded like a single. It’s definitely one of the standout songs in sound than the rest of the album, so this could be a good pick as well to attract those who think this is just an average pop rock album.

hey starr! (waves). haven’t been visiting the blog frequently and so its kinda refreshing to read this thread. and thanks for your take on what the second single should be.

my thoughts on this: if its left to the producers, the second single will definitely be Before You Come Undone or Cant Stay Away cos as you say its very catchy and radio-friendly. both are not my favourites in the album but i’ll be ok if this was chosen cos kris co-wrote these two and it shows a funky side of him which i’m sure which charm everyone off their seats.

if it was left to kris to decide, i think it’ll be red guitar (his favourite) or alright with me (his wife’s favourite). i remember kris places a lot of importance on his wife’s choices which i personally feel is very very good. if i remember correctly, according this interview of kris’s dad sometime post-show, he said it was katy’s idea to do Falling Slowly on movie night which obviously was a huge hit. anyways i’d love if either red guitar or alright with me two cos both have potential to be a huge radio hit. and red guitar has been getting some positive reviews as well, and means a lot to kris.

i dont think the non-AI bubble may like The Truth or Bring It Back the way we do. as much as i love these two songs, they are not distinctive enough to be a second single.

if it was upto me, i’d pick alright with me for the second single. if the non-AI bubble knew for a fact that Joe King co-wrote the song, it can be a positive development since there can be a cross-over of fans and kris’s fanbase can increase, making the song a hit. besides this, its a super catchy song and it reminds me a bit of Fireflies of Owlcity and (forgive me guys) Single Ladies cos its one of those songs which makes you stop everything and take notice.

i’d love it if I Need To Know is also released as a song but its quite a risky one though cos I haven’t read any reviews on the song, so it can go both ways. but i love the song and its my favourite in the album.

I am thrilled that Kris was so well received and is gaining new fans. He’s in it for the long haul and I’m confident he will get his due.

One thing I think Jive is sorely lacking on is seeing that his official site is updated and that his bios and pics floating around are correct and flattering. I noticed the Sacramento radio website promo for their Jingle Ball said he was an AI Season 8 top 13 finalist and listed him as a shoe salesman and worship leader. These people didn’t even know he WON? This is the job of his PR and management. They should also have posters and promotional items of him sent to the stores and at his appearances.

They don’t have any merchandise available either — I saw a tweet about that from last night’s concert. The Fray, on the other hand, have LOTS of merchandise

Kris’s lower register always kills me! On most of the songs on the album I’d like to delete the part where he reaches for the high notes. I hate to hear him strain his voice like that. It’s just not pleasant for me–I’m sure I’m in the minority on that though. But in all honesty, I would be totally happy with straight-across-the-board-completely-low-register songs. Still love the album.

I find the lyrics to ‘The Truth’ a bit too dramatic, with the ‘avalanche’ & ‘elephant in the room’ etc. All the metaphors & phrases, it distracts me from the actual emotion of the song. If it hadn’t been for Kris’ vocals, I’d pass on this one.

i love it when he performs MITM cos for one thing its such a great song and so full of meaning and also, its the first song we saw kris sing on the show. way back when he was the cute no-body cannon-fodder. i think kris’s performance of this song only gets better and better.
