American Idol winner, Kris Allen talked to Fox news this morning about the win, Adam Lambert, and his growing confidence. He says he was finally drawn to the competition because he could play instruments and re-arrange songs.

Bonus scoop: Season 9 auditions begin in June in: Boston, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Orlando and Denver…the madness begins again!

Ok people are going to kill me for this, but if I had just tuned in for the final show and then saw this interview, I would think that Kris really didn’t want to be the winner and regretted trying out for American Idol (how he said it was too long and he wouldn’t do it again). I know that’s not the case, but I just think he needs to be careful. He can be so humble that it actually can end up sounding ungrateful. He needs to remember that he has tons of fans who intentionally voted him into this position.

  • JJ123

I think it’s nice that he always tries to take the focus off him but he really just needs to embrace it and bask in the glory a little. I mean people liked him enough to vote for hours for him, at least acknowledge the win as deserved for their sake. I love that he’s humble but I’d like him to talk a little more about himself and be proud of what he’s accomplished. He really is a great guy and I hope he has a great career!!

  • gingerly

I just think that Kris is so not comfortable with the focus on him. He will learn how to deal with it. It’s gotta be a trip for him.

  • gingerly

It’s my mouse, I tell you. I never click submit more than once. Damn little mouse has a mind of his own…

  • monleo1705

Gingerly – LMAO, damn that mouse!!

And for the rest of the posters who wrote that Kris needs to stop shoving away his glory – I TOTALLY AGREE!!! I have noticed it a while back and it can get quite upsetting, especially when fans like us are expecting to hear grateful things and how happy he should be – rather than Adam deserves it. HUH???

Anyway, still love him. But i think he can be humble YET enjoying the blessing that has been bestowed on him. Have a little more confidence and faith in yourself KRISSY !! REMEMBER WE LOVE YOU ALWAYS!!! :wub_tb:

  • sleeptalker

Yeah, Kris is trying not to sound egotistical, but he’s making himself sound SO humble it is almost unsettling. Poor kid, he probably just doesn’t know how to react. Every week he was hearing that Adam or Danny was better than he was, of course he still can’t take it all in.

And Adam can slap eyeliner on the weather lady, so of course he could slap it on Kris. Smudging’s the key, remember. ;)

  • abbysee

Wanna bet Adam will indeed slap a little eye liner on him during the tour? Humility doesn’t begin to explain Kris. I think he’s in a fog right now. He will adjust I am sure.

  • Sunshinegirl

He is so much like an older version of Archie in that regard. Humble almost to a fault, shy, uncomfortable in the limelight, not the most polished speaker, but so incredibly sweet and adorable. I would bet that if Archie had won last year, Kris’s reaction last night and the interviews we are seeing from him now would be almost exactly how Archie would’ve been.

  • helaena

lol Kris! =) at least there’s an improvement there, finally acknowledging that he deserves it too! lol….

“Adam deserves this as much as I do“…. that’s an improvement!

  • skylight1219

He will have people around him who will help him grow. I like the humble thing, but, sometimes it’s a little too much. Bask in your win, Kris! Embrace it !

  • http://Www.twitter.com/rub3n_roxx rbn_09

Imagine Kris resigns as Idol winner… Is that even possible???

  • dyg

He is a nice guy, but he really needs to increase his vocabulary – A Thesaurus – That ´s the present his fans should give him.

  • annabelina

He is so much like an older version of Archie in that regard. Humble almost to a fault, shy, uncomfortable in the limelight, not the most polished speaker, but so incredibly sweet and adorable. Exactly. I remember somewhere that someone had said that every year Idol gets a very different winner than the past Idol winners. This still holds true in the wake of Kris’ win. If Adam had won, it would have been like Cook all over again. I know he’s a very different kind of rocker than Cook, but considering that Idol is a pop music melting pot, the mainstream press would probably be talking about how a male rocker won for the second year in a row had it been Adam, which would only be echoed by Adam’s interview skills which are on par with Cook’s, while Kris’ are obviously on par with Archie’s. The same analogy could be said of their personalities. In the grand scheme of things, this was the most interesting win Idol could get. If it were the opposite, it would just be a repeat of last year.

  • MrsTrep

I can’t wait for the ‘Shocking Win’ stuff to end. Maybe that will help Kris believe he deserved the win??? I do love his humbleness, but more so his musical style. I hope that he’s able to step up his game interview wise and show some confidence, but I think a few less people telling him that Adam should have one would be helpful….

  • windmills

IMO this is just who Kris is and it’s OK for now because it defuses the “Adam wuz ROBBED!!!!” media story. It’s less fun for the media if the guy who won sort of agrees. But Kris is going to eventually need to step up and own the fact that he’s connected with millions of people who appreciate his talent. I think he will, too. At least by the time he releases his album (can’t wait!!!).

After the initial phase where the media is talking about who won Idol attention’s going to turn to the albums Kris, Adam, and everyone else who gets signed is going to make. So before too long Kris IMO is going to need to do a better job of expressing the kind of artist he is to the media and connecting his personality to his music. Right now his performances speak for themselves and no one doubts Kris has a GREAT sense of who he is musically. But as that memory fades a little the media’s going to need reminding about who he is artistically, so before too long people’ll start wanting Kris to drop a few names or buzz words that they can publish about what’s coming next.

  • taran33

Kris just seems so mellow. I am so proud of him! I can only imagine what he has to feel like right now. He reminds me of how Cookie acted when he won. Always mentioning Archie. Which is cool. Only those who have competed on AI can truly understand the crap they have to go through.

  • helaena

i have faith in you kris! there are “no boundaries”

Even though Adam did not win I do believe that Adam will still be the spokesperson when these two are together, he trys to include Kris and defers to him but ultimately Adams got this interview thing down and Kris and he are so close I dont think Kris will care, he will probably defer right back to Adam to take the burden of these off of himself.

  • Sunshinegirl

As much as I love Cook, I have to admit that it is kind of nice seeing the “shy guy” win this year…the unexpected, come-from-behind story. It’s all so amazing to see. Even if some still believe this is a purely vocal competition only, I am glad to see that it has transcended over the years to become a competition for the complete music artist. And of course Adam is that as well, so he would’ve been just as deserving to win. But they really are both extremely talented just with completely different styles that you cannot compare.

  • chicksineggz

Aww, Kris. You’re too humble. Seriously. I wish he could bask in the glory of it all too.

  • drea

Kris just has NO star quality. I’m a huge Kris fan and I don’t mean that in a bad way. He is just unassuming about this whole thing.

However, Kris has star quality in spades when he performs (granted, drawing a different crowd than Adam). I cannot wait for more music from him. That is the saddest thing about this season ending and the biggest reason I am glad he did win – new music sooner.

  • AZIdolFan

the interview is so cute. Kris is just a really mellow laid back kinda guy. i don’t think he can wrap his pretty little head around the fact people liked him PERIOD, much less than people prefer him over adam. hopefully the tour will let him see he truly deserves the title, unless adam crazies ruin it for him.

  • TKat

edit: don’t bait and lecture posters

  • Soapbox0916

He is a nice guy, but he really needs to increase his vocabulary – A Thesaurus – That ´s the present his fans should give him.

I am so glad that I watched all of his hometown interviews. He was a lot more comfortable then and gave some really witty and intelligent comments. I can tell that he is a book worm kind of guy and in a earlier interview says that he reads to relax.

He has the raw tools and the intelligence to give really great interviews. He is an amazing fast learner from what I have seen of him on this show. I think he is just so overwhelmed right now.

Kris is a star in the rough.

  • hypertwink

I think you need to have a little more faith in Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ talent and in Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fans

Fans like the ones who have been screaming their heads off about the Arkansas vote?

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Well, I’m an Adam fan and I don’t quite believe the 38 million figure. I do believe Kris’ fanbase was very organized. Even if the 38 million figure was true, there’s nothing wrong with power voting for your fave. That’s encouraged and within the rules.

    Good luck to Kris.

  • dante

Now that I have had a little time to mourn Adam not winning……

Congrats to Kris!!!!!!! He won this fair and square and with no help from TPTB. He is cute as can be and a very talented musician and singer.

I rewatched the finale today and Adam, Kris, Allison and Danny were outstanding IMO. I think America got the Top 4 right for sure.

Even though I wanted Adam to win it all, I agree with pj – nothing wrong with powervoting according to Idol – and America loves underdogs – but Kris earned this the hard way.

Adam, Kris and Allison are still my favs.

  • ross

I’ve seen Gordon Lightfoot interviewed and he’s very softspoken and laid back, and Paul Simon, just about the same. I don’t see that as lack of star quality. Kris isn’t a movie star, he’s a musician, and when he’s performing he has a lot of stage presence. Offstage, I think he’s a charming person with a lot of class.

I agree, people who voted for him want him to embrace being the Idol. When he says other people deserve it, it feels weird to the people who spent hours voting for him. It’s over, he won. There needs to be closure and there isn’t if he doesn’t let it happen. That’s how it feels to me, anyhow.

  • RemusL

I hope Kris never changes the core of his character, which is that genuine humility and generosity of spirit. Just from watching him progress through this season, I perceive him to be someone who doesn’t much care to sing his own praises. That does not mean he has no confidence in his ability. It just seems he’d rather walk the walk than talk the talk. Speak softly but carry a big stick – that’s Kris.

Personally, I’ve enjoyed his style of music, as well as that of Adam, Allison, Anoop, Matt and even Danny at times. Variety is the spice of life. I’m looking forward to seeing them all on the summer tour.

  • awilliams

Remember Jason Castro was pretty uncomfortable with interviews but he’s gotten much better. Even Archileto is much better than he was a year ago.

It takes practice and some coaching to become skillful at it. You have to see yourself from the outside, see what other people might be perceiving. That’s why Speech classes have students videotape themselves. We just need to give him some time. Adam and the others will help him on the tour.

He didn’t really expect this – it snuck up on him. I don’t think he was the strategist that Adam was when it came to plotting out his professional future.

  • oddobserver

I think that it would help Kris to adjust to the win once the media stops using the phrases The Underdog, The Shock Win, and those memorable words “Adam deserved to win”. Think that phrase is gonna dog him for a while.

I don’t know how to respond to the question as well. How would you take back these words gracefully without seeming insincere?

Kris said “Yeah” in response to the guy asking “The first thing you reportedly said was ‘Adam deserved to win’”, which I’m taking as “Yeah, I said it.”
The next question was “The other guy deserved to win?” That’s a tough one. It’s one of those damned if you do, damned if you don’t type of questions, isn’t it? I think he responded in the only way he could really. As heleana said, at least he improved on that statement with “Adam deserves this as much as I do!”

Anyhow, now that the dust has settled, and I’ve gotten over the shock of Adam not winning, it’s been a great ride all in all.

    GOOD LUCK KRIS!

After a while, it won’t carry much weight anymore. Cook had that cloud over him last year but he’s fine now (and so is Archie), so he just has to weather this until the fall. When another media/internet frenzy will happen with the single and album releases.

I know, right? From the beginning the judges (even though they gave some nice comments), just continued to seem to want to keep him down. To go from that to suddenly winning, would be huge! I do hope it hits him how amazing he is!!!!

  • Soapbox0916

Just watched him on Leno, and despite getting only 2 hours of sleep and a full day of interviews and who knows what, Kris has finally gained his ability to talk in full sentences again and had some really interesting stories to tell about himself.

I think he was just so shocked and overwhelmed that he did not know what to do or say for while. He is a fast adjuster though. I have no doubt that he do well on interviews in the future. Give him time.
