Sirk and The Dirty Minds (aka Kris & KAB) about to take the stage at the Viper Room

The band arrived or something. People cheered. Personally, I’m most interested to see how they fit a full band on this stage.

tage is thisclose. Capacity 200 pol would be pushing it. Band playing is before kris http://twitpic.com/4mbg6q

There isn’t even going to be a Caleside or Andrewside. KAB will be cozy on stage.

Hey kris! (lol creeper shot) http://twitpic.com/4mbukh

For the record it is full KAB in the house. Kris, Cale, Torres, Andrew & Drew with Ryland, Bigdaddy & Lizzie

ETA: Apparently Ryland was there but Drew played with KAB. Ryland is currently on tour with Reel Big Fish.

  • tripp_ncwy

Kris did debut a new song “these guys?” wrote together as sort of a joke. Working title “Shut That Door & Keep That Devil Out”, it’s a blues rock-a-billy jam. He also reprises “Leave You Alone”.

  • ilovekrisallen39

Am listening to it now and it’s pretty interesting, and doesn’t sound like anything from the first CD that’s for sure.

Torres still plays with The Grass Heat, & working on writing a solo album. Acoustic-y.

Just in the car driving back from Kris’ concert.
He finished around 1:20 am pst and immediate meet & greet outside the door and he drove himself and Cale around 2:15am.
And that was because BigDaddy kind of insisted, OK, time to go.

What a great guy to do this for the fans, Kris and the band.

I am so glad to be able to come today.

    Show tidbits:

Kris had 3 choices viper, hotel cafe, & one i forget. He didnt do hotel cafe bc its “too nice” lol

Ryland did his best to fly from Colorado to play for Kris, but not early enough 4 rehearsals. So his bro Drew did & while Ry enjoy the show.

  • tripp_ncwy

Ratna12 can you confirm that Adam was there? There have been some tweets that he was there.

The new song is really interesting, wonder if it will make the cut. Very blusey and funky.

Tripp, I was at the front, but I highly doubt it that the guy was there. Although there are booths with Tinhatters, Kradam fans who threw a pink unicorn plush toy with a pink bracelet to Kris at one point.

Amazing show. Loved loved loved the first of the two new songs (Shut That Door and Keep That Devil Out). Crowd shows Kris lots of love. He returned in kind. What’s amazing is that he’s so intense when he’s singing, and then so zen during his banter LOL. He really rocked the joint. Band is fantastic. I’ll have some pictures up on flickr soon – I’ll put in the link.

    snapcracklypop:

Will KAB play on album? Can’t know for sure, but Cale’s thoughts on it is probably whoever the right person to play the parts of the song.

For example, let’s say if the song needs a Prince-type guitar sound. Cale said obviously Andrew would be best for that & not him.

  • girlygirl

Back from The Viper Room. Kris and KAB killed it tonight, even though the band was underrehearsed and it seemed like there were occasional sound/equipment issues. The place was packed and the energy was amazing. The guys all seemed so amped to be playing together again, which was fun to see. Drew did a great job filling in for Ryand on the drums (Ryland was there, but he didn’t get into town in time to reheasrse with the guys since he’s out on tour with RBF — so Drew filled in)

Kris was reading the set list of the back of a cigarette carton and the whole evening had an improvised feel to it. He was bantering with the crowd the whole night and, as usual, had some comebacks for the crowd members who threw out the silliest and/or less appropriate suggestions. At one point he even got smacked in the face by a flying stuffed unicorn

After the set, which lasted just over an hour, Kris and the rest of the band hung around for about another hour outside the venue just talking to the fans and taking photos. Every time I go to one of the shows, I’m just amazed at how nice all the guys are. Cale is flying back to Arkansas later this morning (Monday) — while Kris said that he’s going to be working, so maybe he has a writing session? hope it’s not early in the morning — by the end of the set he looked exhausted

Loved the new song as well as hearing Leave You Alone — it sounds much more polished than it did when they performed it for the only other time, back in November. Also was great hearing a full version of SIAM

  • girlygirl

Also, I didn’t see Adam. I think the tweets were just messing with people.

Thanks for all the pics and the videos (so far). It sounds like it was a super treat for those who could go. I’m looking forward to more and full reports.

I’m liking the new song a lot. I only heard it once and it’s already stuck in my head. I see some Andrew influence here with the rockabilly blues sound.

  • tripp_ncwy

Since Kris said it was kind of a joke I take it that “Shut That Door & Keep That Devil Out” is one of those throw away songs writers write to clear the brain when they get stuck.

  • luly

Kris sounds great and it looks like a super fun concert. I think that the new song is a cool and fun song for a cocert.
Thanks for the videos and pictures!

  • Elliegrll

Since Kris said it was kind of a joke I take it that “Shut That Door & Keep That Devil Out” is one of those throw away songs writers write to clear the brain when they get stuck.

I think he’s saying that it started off as a joke, but that they like it.

I like it as is, but I don’t know if I like it in its current arrangement for Kris. I think he could shop the song around, and it would be a huge hit for a lot of singers. I’d like it, and LYA, more for Kris if their arrangement were tweaked, but maybe he is going more for this type of sound with the next album.

ETA: Even if Kris released it, I think it would be a hit. It’s just that this would take his sound in a totally new direction.

  • JMatt

Love the new song. Knowing Kris is a Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, I’m hearing that influence, great stuff!

  • windmills

I just listened to Shut That Door & Keep That Devil Out because I was curious from the title and I love the rockabilly vibe of it! It’s totally a different sound for Kris but he sounds great and totally free.

Good for him for finding a way to play a show for his fans too.

  • standtotheright

Once again, windmills says it so I don’t have to.

Fun performance. I’m glad he was able to pull a show together for the fans at the last minute.

  • Paulie

Catching up on the videos and stuff… LOL @ Shut The Door. He sounds like–dare I say?–Elvis. ;) Must be the rockabilly thing. And LYA! We need new Kris music ASAP.

The secret show sounded like a lot of fun. Nice of SirK to arrange a show like that.

  • Yvonne13

Great new song from Kris – love it. I strongly prefer this to David Cook’s. I hope Kris can release this as a single.

  • ilovekrisallen39

I really love it also. I love that it doesn’t sound like anything like what we heard from the first Cd, (even thou I love the first CD).Paulie alot of people last night was saying how he sound like Elvis, which isn’t a bad thing isn’t Elvis such a great singer, performer. I would love for him to sing this at Alive in June, I just hope I get to go. I’ll find out the middle of next month. If me and the family goes where going for the whole thing. It sounds like alot of fun and we love to camp. And the kids have never heard Kris live, like me and the hubby did. Back to the song it’s so catchy I can’t get it out of my head and listen to it alot already this morning. Does sound like an Andrea influence to it.

  • tinawina

I LOVE that new song. Please hurry up with that album thingy you’re working on Kris. Thanks.

  • linsmile

This looks exciting – can’t wait to hear the new song. Actually, I can’t wait to hear it all.

I have a house guest – my college roommate – and I love her – but there is not a moment that I can think of in the next couple of day that I’ll be able to listen. And today’s my son’s birthday, so we’re focusing on a party for him. Anyway, I hope to find a moment, but in the meantime while my fellow Kris fans are sharing smiles and flails, I’ll be MIA.

Have fun everyone! And thanks for the thread, MJ! Be back later (but hopefully sooner…).

  • fanaround

Really fun new song – especially to see live I’m sure! Reminded me a bit of the Little Willies.

  • ross

I couldn’t find this thread on the blog. I scrolled down from the top five or six times. Finally I went to “search” and typed in Kris’s name and it came up.

    ETA: Whoop! There it is.

I have no sound on my computer (it’s semi-busted) so I can’t hear the new song – dang it! I like the “working title” a lot. I’ll actually have to wait a day or so to hear it. It sounds like the title of a song Kris would write. Makes me laugh. Cool that it was featured on the Daily News Pop Wrap site as well.

  • hoosiermama

Enjoying this Monday morning concert…big smile on my face thru STDAKTDO! These guys should write more songs together “as a joke”! SO MUCH FUN!! :-)

ETA: ross–we had that sound problem on our old computer. Try uninstalling and reinstalling your sound drivers. It worked for us.

  • ross

Thanks, hoosiermama – will try. I already took it in to be repaired though and they couldn’t do it.

  • Joyed

That was a really fun new song for Kris – sounds like a fun jam. I’m so glad he got this concert set up so last minute. What a great guy.

I own his first album and really like it and can’t wait to hear what he writes for the next one. I think he has a great writing voice and really knows how to craft a song that shows off his vocal strengths (like his lovely smooth tone).

  • savgal

Kris not only sounds like a young Elvis on STDAKTDO, he looks like him, too. Very catchy song. It could be a hit!

  • Elliegrll

It’s funny, I usually don’t pay attention to fan made videos of live concerts, because the quality is so bad that it’s hard to really tell what’s going on, but I can’t stop thinking about this song. After thinking about it, I think that if this song is rearranged to a nixture of a more rock, soul and funk style, I can see it being a summer hit for Kris. It is so catchy and fun, but really shows an artistic side of Kris, too, that might not have come through in some of the songs on KATA. I think it would be a hit as is for some country singers, too, but whatever happens to it, it needs to be on somebody’s album and the radio.

  • almondean88

It was so great for Kris and crew to put on this show. Not just the ticket holders & the fans that flew into LA to see Kris were disappointed, but all of us online fans were crushed not to get to hear a new Kris performance. This puts a huge smile on my face!! Thanks to all you who shared the experience with your pictures and video and recaps.

  • girlygirl

Sleep is overrated, y’all ;) ! Still flailing over getting to go to last night’s show. It was so much fun. I left something out in my earlier recap. At one point, some girl handed a drink to Kris. He thanked her, but didn’t drink it. He then offered it to the other band members, who all declined until finally, with a shrug, Andrew took it and downed it in like doing a shot.

I was happy to see a fair amount of guys at the show. The one standing next to me was very much into Kris’s music, which was cool.

I love the new song — don’t know whether it will make the album or what, but it is definitely a keeper for the live shows :)

  • tripp_ncwy

Glad to see you had a good time girlygirl. I think I now have the full set posted.

  • Elliegrll

He then offered it to the other band members, who all declined until finally, with a shrug, Andrew took it and downed it in like doing a shot.

It’s funny to see how much Kris has rubbed off on Andrew. He’s even starting to dress like Kris. And when they first got together, it was Andrew who insisted that they always write the setlist down, but I doubt that back then he would be okay with them writing it down on a cigarette package. Andrew is much more loose and relaxed than he was two years ago, now he seems to be having so much fun.

  • tripp_ncwy

    Elliegrll, ITA.

I guess spending so much time with each other over the past 2 years, they are their own little family. Looking back to the first time they played together at the Dolphins tailgate until now, it’s like a completely new group of people.

  • Elliegrll

A writer from PopDust likes the song.

I have a feeling that news of this song is going to start getting around, and may even make the rounds of a few radio stations. The big question is if this will be something that Kris and his people will welcome, and if they want people to believe that this is the style of song that he will have on his new album.

  • ross

(Now I see why I couldn’t find the thread. It’s not listed as “American Idol, Kris Allen” only as “Kris Allen, Kris Allen tour.” I was just reading the David Cook thread and clicked on “American Idol,” which brought me back to the blog, but no Kris thread. When I log in to the blog from outside, though – there it is. I guess I’m the only one this is happening to.)

    Enjoying the comments.

MJ, saw your tweets. That’s crazy. You must be freaking out.

  • girlygirl

Andrew isn’t so much the hipster dude who was a little hard to talk to, is he? :) Which is nice because he’s a very cool guy…and a fantastic guitarist

  • girlygirl

on an extremely shallow note, all the guys looked so good. No one seemed too concerned about Kris’s hair. Maybe they were too focused on his arms — or the fact that bouncy, dancey Kris was there — completed with hip action ;)

On a far less shallow note, his and Andrew’s call & response in the EWTRTW mashup is one of my new(ish) fave things

  • jinger

I’m loving all of the blues influences. My taste runs all the way from R&B to Southern blues/rock, so anything along those lines on the next album will make me happy. Great to see everyone having so much fun.

  • tripp_ncwy

    mylifeback:
Fun fact: Last nite after show, someone pulled Kris’ car around & he drove off w/Cale/Big Daddy. HE PUT HIS GLASSES ON TO DRIVE. <3

  • Eileen99

The concert last night was amazing. Kris sounded great, despite not giving an hour-long performance in a while. Many of us were saying afterward how much he has grown and matured as a performer. He really feeds off the energy of the crowd and commands the room. It’s been fun to watch his growth.

Loved the rockabilly song a lot! It will be interesting to see what happens to this song – if he records it in a similar style or if it ends up with another artist. I think I remember an interview where Kris said he wouldn’t be opposed to some of his music crossing over to country. Or maybe I’m misremembering that, not sure.

And I liked this version of Leave You Alone with the nice harmonies at the end better than when I saw it in Portland. It’s an improved version, imo.

  • TwigLA

Someone needs to get this to Nigel stat and Kris needs to perform it on Idol. How about Country week or original songs week if they actually have that?

On another note, I had a loooong conversation with David the event director of Los Angeles Spring Fair. They are refunding the money I paid as well as others. They already refunded those who showed up at the fair yesterday.

He was shocked that the concerts didn’t draw a crowd. Rick Springfield had the most at 500. Kris sold the most and he estimated it at 1000. Unfortunately, they were losing money and couldn’t afford to pay the remaining bands to play.

He said he LOVES Kris and his music which is why he booked him in the first place. He said his only option would have been to ask him to play for free and he has too much respect to do that. He hopes he’ll be able to book him at some time in the future. (I mentioned that he shouldn’t be surprised if Kris says no.)

Having talked to him, I feel much better today. I’m still disappointed I missed yet another So. CA show. One of these days!!!!

  • ross

(Thanks for fixing the heading of the thread. :))

I have a feeling that news of this song is going to start getting around, and may even make the rounds of a few radio stations. The big question is if this will be something that Kris and his people will welcome, and if they want people to believe that this is the style of song that he will have on his new album.

Sometimes these things have a way of taking care of themselves. No way to project that any of this will even happen, at this point. I would think they would welcome any attention. Also, it may be the style of his album, for all we know.

LLWD isn’t especially representative of Kris’s album style, so I don’t know if it always matters.

He was shocked that the concerts didn’t draw a crowd. Rick Springfield had the most at 500. Kris sold the most and he estimated it at 1000. Unfortunately, they were losing money and couldn’t afford to pay the remaining bands to play.

Thanks for that info, TwigLA. Glad you got to talk to the promoter. You must have been eager to share this with us. Glad you did!

These concerts were advertised as “FREE.” Why would they expect to sell a lot of tickets to a free show?

    I didn’t (and don’t) understand the concept.

If Kris sold 1000 VIP tickets for a 6000 seat grandstand of a “free show,” how many VIP tickets were there, anyway? There were more than 1000 VIP seats? That seems crazy. I thought there were a couple hundred.

Finally, it seems that if Kris sold around a thousand seats, and more people were coming to the “free” show without buying a ticket, he might have had a good crowd for the show.

The New York Post’s Pop Wrap weighed in on the new song. Everything that he says is spot on. http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/popwrap/kris_allen_x12gdR0IWBrIyLrhbdqYKJ

Don’t get me wrong, I love his debut CD, but Kris Allen is never better than when he’s performing live. He’s clearly an artist who feeds on a crowd’s energy, like some sexy singing succubus.

This weekend one of those live performances was cancelled at the last minute, so Kris & his team threw together a “secret” show at The Viper Room. It was there that the “Idol” winning debuted a new, untitled song — let’s call it “Shut That Door” for now.

Let me tell you, if this is the direction his sophomore CD is headed in, I could not be more excited. It’s definitely got more of a country vibe, but this is some deep fried goodness I could get behind!

Finally, it seems that if Kris sold around a thousand seats, and more people were coming to the “free” show without buying a ticket, he might have had a good crowd for the show.

The director just doesn’t want to say that the fair wasn’t drawing a crowd, so he is putting it on the concerts, even though that doesn’t make any sense. Being that they were free, if the fair was doing well, the concerts could have still happened, even if most of the fair goers didn’t attend. Since the majority of the money that would have been made would come from fair admission, and people buying stuff from vendors, and not the free concerts.

  • FaithfulFan

Love the new song! Kris and this bluesy style are a good fit. Good concert song, it’s hard to sit still while listening to it. Thanks everyone for the videos and recaps. I read the tweets on the kalists and it sounded like a really fun time. Very cool for Kris & gang to set this up.

  • TwigLA

I didn’t (and don’t) understand the “there are VIP tickets, but it’s a free concert” concept. If Kris sold 1000 VIP tickets for a 6000 seat grandstand of a “free show,” how many VIP tickets were there, anyway? There were more than 1000 VIP seats?

Ross, I don’t know how many VIP tickets there were, but Kris sold $3,000 worth. There were two tiers of VIP. The more expensive (I forget the price) included a party with the band after the concert. I bought the cheaper VIP at $20 each because I wanted to be guaranteed a good seat center stage and close.

  • lifeisgood

Love this description of Kris performing live (from the Daily News Popwrap):

“He’s clearly an artist who feeds on a crowd’s energy, like some sexy singing succubus.”

    And I couldn’t agree more!

  • TwigLA

The director just doesn’t want to say that the fair wasn’t drawing a crowd, so he is putting it on the concerts, even though that doesn’t make any sense. Since the majority of the money that would have been made would come from fair admission, and people buying stuff from vendors, and not the free concerts.

Elliegirl, I did not get the impression he was putting the blame on the bands for the poor attendance at the fair. Granted VIP tickets factor in in overall profit.

The vendors sales go to the vendor. They pay a rental fee to the event planners for their space. When I’ve done them, I paid from $1,000 to $2,000 for a booth. David told me he was charging waaaaay less than that. He lowered the price of admission and eventually made it free yesterday to help the vendors try to make their money back.

We talked a long time and he was very candid. Heck, I almost asked him for a job. I actually love working festivals.

  • ross

Since the majority of the money that would have been made would come from fair admission, and people buying stuff from vendors, and not the free concerts.

I think that sounds about right.

I think the guy was unrealistic, anyhow. He probably just should have had two or three concerts, on the weekends, nothing during the week, and then promoted the weekend concerts to the hilt. And charged for tickets to all the seats for these concerts in the usual way.

  • Elliegrll

He lowered the price of admission and eventually made it free yesterday to help the vendors try to make their money back.

That was nice of him. I still don’t agree with him that it was just up to the acts to draw people to the fair. Did he promote these acts, and are acts as old as Loverboy and Rick Springfield really going to draw in the demographic that wants to stay at a fair all day long.

  • ross

Well, now I don’t know which one of you is right, but I think it’s a weird concept for concerts. Maybe it’s more common than I know.

It’s hard to tell whether each act’s ticket sales (for a free show) were supposed to cover what the act was paid by the promoter, as well as make a profit for the promoter – or whether the money was to come from the admission price and other sources at the fair, as well.

Anyhow, I would say offhand that that was unlikely to bring in the kind of money he thought it would.

Sounds like the fair was a failed experiment. I don’t like that Kris might be presumed to be responsible for any of it, though. I’m actually glad he didn’t perform. The Viper Room is much cooler than this fair, and he got a lot more attention from the media, it seems. Sometimes things work out better by accident than by planning.

  • Ratna12

Warning, long winded recap as usual. :)

The venue was really small, I really did not expect it to be that small.
It was decent crowd at 11:00pm and when the band finally came in around 11:35, it suddenly after that, was packed, really hot in there. There were some guys there too, so mixed crowd.
There was curtain, so when the band who the DJ announced as Sirk and The Dirty Mind started sound checking with Kris’ song intro, some yelled, “hey, you are stealing Kris’ songs !”.

**I’m reading the tweets from last night to remember all the details**

CSA, WAOMF – Kris was wearing off white, really light grayish tight t-shirt and somebody on Twitter said it best , KRIPPLES. :D and arms ! He introduced himself as Sirk and his band.

He then bantered that ” This show is for the fans, this is better than the fair, right ?” He then took out his set list written on some carton and taking requests.
So some people started yelling ” From The Ashes”, Kris was like no. ” Leave You Alone”, Kris was, don’t worry, that’s later. Me =  :D :D :D

So he sang IIO – Kris cursed ” So take your freaking time….” . He kept changing the words of this song. Love it, so much emotion.

RG- which I always LOVE. Long intro with clapping at the beginning (arms !), little change up at the end.

After the song, somebody offered Kris a shot and he offered it to everybody in the band, nobody took it. Finally Andrew took the shot and drank it. Kris:” Andrew is the big boy tonight.”
He took out the set list. ” We haven’t played together in a long time and some of you might be on the last show, and now you’re here. Some asked why we do not play in California that much, well, we are here.” ( These California people are greedy since Kris plays here plenty but not often enough :D )
“What are you guys want to hear ?  Do you want to hear new stuff ? SCREAMS.
We’ll get to it. Don’t worry, we will play couple new songs tonight. More Screams.
This is the first show of Sirk and the Dirty Minds. Somebody in the crowd yelled, “we love the Dirty Minds”. Kris said, that’s nasty. The person said, we did not named it.

LOVE the fact that Kris announced that we are going to hear a couple of new songs !! I can sensed that all the people with camera (basically almost half, LOL), were readying ourselves.

EWTRTW mashup with TWYMMF with a long duet with Andrew at the end.

Banter before SMAYA – Kris: Everybody having a good time ? who’s ready to go to bed ? NOOO. It is my bed time. I usually asleep by now. If it is getting a little weird tonight, I’m sorry, I’m sleepy.

New Song !! – Kris: Started as a joke. I like it, upbeat and different than any Kris song, I think. really bluesy or is it countryish ? After the song someone asked what’s the tittle. Kris said I don’t come up with titles, that’s why we have people like Cale.

    Birthday songs !!
Happy birthday …. ! And Kris said that he forgot to bring presents and somebody yelled, ” you got Cale !” Laughter. What can we give you ? ” Cale !”. And there is somebody’s birthday too (she was the one who drove me to Vegas last Nov), and another one who I think took out her ID and Kris said,” No I don’t need to see it.”
Yep, great birthday present already to spend time watching Kris.

Stuck in a Moment – with the band. Love it.

LEAVE YOU ALONE was amazing. I played that everyday and to hear it live, so much emotion Kris put into that song. From the beginning of the video banter before the song – somebody yelled ” (one of the birthday girl) loves Cale”. Kris:  ” Is there a tree that we can edge that on ?  Let’s do it after the show.” Too funny.
I have to rewatch the last concert, I thought it was a little bit different at the end. At the end all 4 guitarist were on the mic with oh, oh, oh, oh – AMAZING !

Banter before AWM – Kris ” It’s hot here “. Crowd : ” Take off the t- shirt”.
LOL  never fails. Somebody (from the TinHatters area, threw a pink rubber band with inscription Cale Deserved Cupcakes and then a pink unicorn plush toy that hit his face, I think. Kris put the unicorn on top of the keyboard and put the rubber band around it’s neck, essentially choking the unicorn. LOL.
The rest of the banter, you can see from the video with Gigantic, etc.

    LLWD, CT.

After the show, Kris immediately headed outside the door to the sidewalk for meet and greet behind a rail. Everybody came out and waited to pose for pics, signing and basically told him how much we appreciated his impromptu concert.
Because, really, he did not have to do this. I got my hug and a pic. :D

After almost an hour, BigDaddy got the car and asked Kris to get going.
Kris was ” Anybody who did not get a picture yet ?” to the remaining crowd.
He then got to the car and drove himself and Cale , who I must say looks extremely pretty that night and he said that he was really tired, still on Arkansas’ time and had to fly back at 8:30 this morning.  And poor Cale was wearing a rolled up shirt ( it was hot there), by the end of the set, his 2 top buttons were undone.
    He-he.

I was surprised, but maybe not really that many outside towner flew in or drove in more than 2 hours to this midnight show. Some of these people had to flew back directly from the venue to the airport / drive so they can go to work this morning. When Kris said about some of his devoted fans, yep, he has them.

I was just so happy that I got to go, and will wait for the next one. :D

I was just checking & was very happy to see a Kris (or “Sirk”) thread. I’m happy for all of you who had the chance to see them! Thanks for the recaps, vids, & pics.

  • TwigLA

Ratna12, thank you so much for that. I was wrestling with myself on if I should bite the bullet and drive to Hollywood. Divine intervention gave me a flat tire so that settled that.

  • tripp_ncwy

girlygirl, do you know if KAB will have the same members in Conway (Drew vs. Ryland)? I think Ry has a show the very next day with RBF.

  • erl

That new song is ALL KINDS OF FUN! Hope Kris sees the positive comments/press about it. Seriously, that song is no joke. Still loving Leave You Alone too. If all of his new songs are turning out this good we are in for a real treat. Very cool that they made the effort to get this show together.

  • girlygirl

    Tripp

I haven’t heard. I’m not even sure if Toad Suck Daze is gonna be full band. I think it is, but I’m not sure

  • erl

Also think it was cool that Ryland tried to get there to play with them, knowing that his brother could fill in. They are what a band should be and it shows.

Ok, 88 pictures from last night, now on flickr!

Thanks so much to all those who posted vids and pics and recaps!! I wanted to go so much but being in San Diego, it would have been too late for me. If I had time to plan I could have taken today off. :)

  • ross

Ratna, just read your recap and laughed out loud a couple of times. Love Kris’s wit. He’s so quick. Thanks for the recap – and you, too, girlygirl.

  • tripp_ncwy

Just got confirmation that at Toad Suck Daze, Kris will have the full band.

  • Mtlfan

Didn’t have the time to watch all the vids yet, but zoomed on the new song and wow, that was a surprise and a good one. i’m not crazy on the style but i’m in for an occasional rockabilly kind of song when it’s as good as this one :)

Thanks girlygirl and ratna12 for your good recaps. Thanks for sharing the fun with us.
I just can’t wait for album #2 from Kris!

LOL, love Sirk and the Dirty Minds. The new song is awesome and seriously hope the label will actually consider putting this on the album. This is the only vid. I’ve watched/ listened to so far. Hopefully I can squeeze in some more later tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the thread tripp and mj! Thanks for the great and never too long recaps girlygirl and Ratna12! Sounds like an amazing night! :D Happy you could both make it!

Thanks to all of those who took and posted vids and pics.

  • Shadow_i

Kris is a good live singer – he has a very good voice that makes it sound like a record. I never get tired of hearing “written all over my face” – his CD pretty good.

  • hoosiermama

Another hug for Ratna12? Let’s see…how many does that make? And does Kris still smell like “essence of rock star”? So happy for you and girlygirl (I assume she got a hug, too?). Thanks for the recaps for the rest of us to live through you guys vicariously! And thank you Kris for making it all happen for the fans. I’ve missed KAB! :-)

Still lovin’ the new song! And SIAM, and LYA. And IIO. And RG. And the mashup (Andrew is amazing at the end!). Oh hell–I loved it all. Awesome concert!

  • girlygirl

Nope, no hug for me. I’ve never gotten any hugs from Kris. In fact, I didn’t even talk to him last night. Too many people around. I did talk briefly to Torres and Cale (no hugs from them either, though)

  • Ratna12

hoosiermama says: Another hug for Ratna12? Let’s see…how many does that make?

:) I want Kris to get used to my asking him for hugs. just kidding.

I think that I’m really lucky because of circumstances that I get to go to more Kris concerts, of course I think that Kris plays in California more too.

    – I got to go to Las Vegas in Jan 2010 because of girlygirl post.
    – Then I went to the Greek. Sat alone and looked around and found girlygirl. Went to sit with her and her Twitter friends.
    – San Diego next , bought a booth, sat with somebody from this board who sold an extra ticket to somebody else. I, then saw somebody from Las Vegas who sat alone, so I invited her to sit with us. The 4 of us in the booth ( I asked for their e-mails).
Met again with same people from the Greek.
    – Went to Reno all by myself, but met some of the same people from the Greek and San Diego. They were nice to let me hang out with them waiting for Kris.
    – When, Kris announced LifeHouse tour, I e-mailed the people sitting in the booth and they all interested going. We went to Universal City, Las Vegas, Temecula.
    – Irwindale, I got e-mailed by one of the person from the last trip. Cancelled and afraid to go alone to LA, so I contacted somebody else and hitched a ride. Met the same people and more.

The more you go, the more you realize there are so many of the same people going to these concerts. And there are many from LA, San Diego, San Fransisco area somehow.
I think that it is easier for Kris to recognize a group of people than a singular person as noted in one of Kris’ banter ( some of the people went to the last California’s concert which was Santa Rosa)

Anyway, what a long  post, again.
Kris fans are so nice and accepting, I think.
Maybe there is something to do with Kris himself.

    **hoosiermama, “only” 6   :)

  • Jae

What a great show! If I lived in LA I totally would have gone. Kris seemed so loose and relaxed. :) I am curious to see what his next album will sound like. I saw Kris when he came through Dallas with Life house. He was good then but he was better here. :)

  • nncw

There is something about Kris that is totally appealing – I always end up feeling good and smiling when watching his videos. His voice and way of singing is very distinctive. I just watched the Arcade Fire videos and they are uber talented and the enormous crowds they sing to are always enthralled and I am amazed at their music. So then I thought should I listen to Kris after that would I be dissapointed somehow? but no there is something about him where I end up enjoying him equally to Arcade Fire and what it is is they both touch my soul or spirit somehow.

  • http://MJO judes

So frustrating,I haven’t had a computer for 2 days so I’m just looking at this thread now. So great Ratna that you were able to go to this after all. I’ve only looked at the Shut the Door video [which has a great vibe to it] so I’m off to listen to more. Thanks for posting them all Tripp.

I’ve just made it through the thread -so thanks for all the recaps everyone. Twig I hope you get to see Kris soon.

  • girlygirl

he’s got a couple of concerts coming up in the next few weeks, so if you live in the areas around where he’s playing, I highly recommend you go — esp. if you’ve never see him perform live.

4/29/11 – Toad Suck Daze (Conway, Ark)
5/5/11 – 106.3 Cinco de Mayo Kissfest (Mission, TX)
5/8/11 – Spartanburg Spring Fling (Spartanburg, SC)

  • hoosiermama

    You go girl!! :-)

Kris fans are so nice and accepting, I think.
Maybe there is something to do with Kris himself.

    I agree!

Kris has a busy week from 4/29 thru 5/8, with those 3 concerts and the ones with the Birklee School of Music kids. It’s good he gets a break from writing for a bit.

ETA: Oops! Reversed the block quotes somehow!

  • Triskel4

So late to the party. Favorite parts — new songs, Yay! Especially the rockabilly one. The Kris and Andrew call and response in EWTRTW — ah-maz-ing! And on a shallow note — Arms!

  • tripp_ncwy

4/29/11 – Toad Suck Daze (Conway, Ark)

Looking at the weather channel, there is 30-40% chance of rain early in the week but clearing Thursday. So nice weather thru the weekend Hi: 76; Low 54 & clear. It should be a good night for a Kris concert on the Kris Allen Stage.

Kris’ friend Adam Hambrick is one of his opening acts. Riverbilly opened for Kris last year at the Saline Summer Daze festival.

Does anyone think that Kris was referring to “Shut That Door” when he said he was writing a song that he could picture Samuel Jackson singing?

  • http://flamingnose.blogspot.com Scott

LOL, I clicked the link to my pictures from Sunday night and I saw only one was in the set. Ooops. I know most of you know how to navigate flickr & probably found them but I now have the other 87 pictures included that set.

    Another, great video of STDAKTDO:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwNxHe7wQaY&feature=related

This song is so awesome and Kris is amazing doing it. He has no right to be this good!!! Haha. Soooo impressed.

Thanks, Scott – I was wondering where the other pix went. They’re great, btw.

  • ilovekrisallen39

That song is just as amazing after I don’t remember how many times of me listening to it as to the first time I listened to it. Just so want the CD out already but am going to try very hard to be patient. Scott thanks for the looks at the pictures really great. I saw on tweeter you mentioning that you do that. So I wanted to check back here and see if you posted them all here. So Cool.

  • almondean88

This is great; each time I check back there are more posts, more pics, more vids. Is it because we all miss Kris & KAB so much? Partly, but mostly cause Kris is so great he just creates excitement. His new song has been buzzing in by brains since the first listen. Rockabilly/blues is just down home for me. I love it! I hope Kris realizes how great the feedback has been and plays this again during his next shows.

  • erl

Scott, thanks for linking the rest of the pictures cause I couldn’t find them and the one pic that came up was pretty darn good (as are the rest).

  • batgirl478

Andrew isn’t so much the hipster dude who was a little hard to talk to, is he? Which is nice because he’s a very cool guy…and a fantastic guitarist

I’m so late to this party but I just have to remark on girlygirl’s comment here. Andrew has become my new crush. I met him at a Tulsa show last year and he really impressed me with how nice he was. I asked him to sign the setlist I caught and he said sure but before he did he asked my name and shook my hand. I don’t know, that just really stuck with me. Then I messaged him on Facebook and thanked him for being so nice, said he and the band were great, etc etc. A few months later he replied to me. Said he didn’t check Facebook often but he thanked me for writing. I was impressed he wrote me back. So yeah I have such a soft spot for Andrew.

I’m so glad Kris (or rather Sirk) was able to do this show. I’m digging the new song.

  • erl

hoosiermama, thanks for that “shut that door” video. AWESOME. Favoriting that one.

  • linsmile

I’m finally back to this thread after taking my house guest of five days to the airport. I’ve only been able to listen to Shut That Door – and of course I love it. Can’t wait to hear the rest.

I played it for my fourteen year old son – who is of course very much a music critic. He liked the song – and after one listen, I caught him singing it. :) Also, he was very impressed with the “Sirk and the Dirty Minds” moniker – “Kris Allen is really creative, Mom.” Yeah, I knooow.

It’s always fun to see the familiar names of Kris fans here – thanks everyone for all the posts. Thanks Ratna12 and Girlygirl for the stories. And thanks Scott for the pictures. Thanks Tripp for all your infomative posts. Thanks again MJ for the thread.

Finally heard Shut the Door, and I can’t shut it off my mind!!!

    Love it!!!

4/29/11 – Toad Suck Daze (Conway, Ark)

I wonder what time the concert is ? That Friday is my Friday off, but I figure I won’t be able to rest at all since I’m one of those people who loves Royal Wedding and planning to see it live.
    **
Scott, thanks for all the pictures.

I can’t stop listening to this new song. I hope Kris sticks with this sort of “dirty” soul sound. You can hear it in Adele’s Rolling in the Deep and in the Urban/Mayer/Jones Jolene Grammy performance, both of which are/were wildly popular. Can’t wait for the new stuff to come out!

  • ilovekrisallen39

Ratna12 thanks for posting that recap so funny to read. Still can’t get that song out of my mind, listened to it so much it’s not even funny. Thanks everyone for the recaps, video’s and pictures.

  • Mtlfan

I don’t think this is posted yet.

    http://takswrites.wordpress.com/2011/04/19/concert-review-sirk-and-the-dirty-minds/

thanks. that was very funny to read!
I can’t get the new song out of my mind ;)

I was surprised that Ryland still came to CA since his brother was filling in. They look to me as a close knitted band and that’s good

  • colette

Late to the party too — didn’t realize the videos were posted.

Man, Kris sounds great!! I am so looking forward to album #2 which I have a feeling will be much better — more time to write, think, arrange, record, and none of that Idol-hangover pressure.

To me his voice is sounding so strong and sure. I think he could win this year on AI, handily.

The new song is a stone blues, and I love that. Hearing the good boy get down and growl it, yeah! “Stuck in the Moment” wonderful also.

Does anyone know if he’s going to perform this year on Idol?? Any rumors??

  • ilovekrisallen39

Colette: Not sure if he’ll sing on Idol this year, but he did mention that he’d be in the audience for the final. And maybe if a single was out he’d love to come on and sing if it could be worked out.(some thing to that effect) That song is awesome, I really hope if I go to Alive Fest, He’ll sing this one. I just love this and Kris said this CD well be the kind that show’s him more as the kind of artist he wants to be.(something to the effect). And if that song and LYA are what the cd is going to be like, I’M really on board with that. Kris just gets better and better every time you hear him sing.

  • colette

Thanks, ILoveKrisAllen39! Good to hear all those things. If he gets into that sweet spot, he’ll get his due. Uh oh, I feel a song coming on:
