Kris Allen Shows Off His Cast (PHOTO)

Check out Kris Allen’s giant cast, decorated with Out Alive tour dates! He tweeted the photo this morning. “It’s obviously mirrored,” he said, But here’s my cast. I thought you might like it.”

The American Idol season 8 winner broke his wrist in a New Years Day head on collision with a car that strayed into his lane. Luckily, Kris, his pup Zorro and pregnant wife Katie were unharmed.

A total trouper, Kris will still begin his Out Alive tour, on January 8 in Killington, VT, despite being fresh out of surgery on Friday to set the break.

ETA: Kris announced this morning that he’ll sing one fan request each night on tour, “We are going to do something special for the #outalivetour. We are going to have a request song each night. The deal is whoever is coming to the show that night and wants to hear a certain song (mine or a cover) tweet the name of that song that day. I will choose one each day and me and the band will learn that song that day. Don’t worry we will remind you each tour date of the request song. So have your song ready.” Kelly Clarkson did something similar with her fans on her North American tour. The request a cover deal was a huge hit…

And in other news, Kris tweeted, “Just got to hear my baby’s heartbeat for the first time. Pretty awesome!”

That is a big ass cast — hope he doesn’t hit himself in the head with it. (That can’t be comfortable to try and sleep with, either)

Good idea to put the tour stops on the cast: (1) it makes it easier for him to remember where he is (which can be a problem for touring artists, lol); and (2) it’s good promotion for the tour — and a good conversation starter

  • dy

One of the Kris fans on Twitter reversed the picture so you can read the tour names better:

I agree, it’s a great idea! And fun too! Also loving the request idea he is doing. Was lucky to see him do that in DC this past October – the audience loved it and responded well to it! Am already plotting my request for Turn the Pages in Vienna, so please feel free to join me on that one!

  • breakdown

One of the good guys! :) Wow, I didn’t expect such a large cast!

  • hoosiermama2

What a great idea putting the tour stops on the cast! For the reasons girlygirltoo said, but it also keeps people/fans from asking to sign it. I feel for Kris having to maneuver that around–it’s got to be a pain showering and getting dressed.

There’s nothing better than hearing your baby’s heartbeat for the first time (and every time!). Glad Kris was home to experience that special moment.

  • mtlfan2

that’s a big cast!! I hope he has to keep it only 5-6 weeks
Love the song request thing! that will spice up the shows :)
    aww re baby heart beat..

  • Miz

Huge cast and cool idea to put the tour dates on it. I’m sure people are going to be begging to sign it though.

WHat the heck is the white plastic looking thing coming out of his neck? I’m at a loss.

He also tweeted pics of his tour bus ‘Dotty’. I have a feeling this is going to be a fun and memorable tour. Hoping for great videos that include the patter.

WHat the heck is the white plastic looking thing coming out of his neck? I’m at a loss.

Looks like some foam padding. It looks like that thing is heavy so it probably there to keep the strap from digging into his shoulder.

  • nncw

He might have a good reason not to shave! That looks like an ace bandage around his cast so he might still have room to add stuff to his cast or have a few bandages to sign?  Must have been so exciting for him to hear babies heart beat!!!

  • BigNLiddle

Excited to see Kris tomorrow night in Killington :)

  • fantoo1

Creative idea! Good that he is making the best out of his situation.

  • hayes

The irony of being in a cast on a tour called “Out Alive” is priceless.

And yay for the fan request song. I wanna hear a live version of Lights.

  • Susan Garrison

Good gravy, that’s huge (that’s what she said)

  • nyc57

What song are you requesting? My family is going skiing Tuesday and Wed, but Killington is too far for overnight.I’d make my husband drive there if I weren’t seeing him in Ct and NYC.Have fun!

Aw, you are going to the first show, please applaud extra loud for me. :)
I’ll go to several in early February.

  • tomr

What a trooper!  Wish he were coming near me.  Trying to get my son and his girlfriend to go in Boston.

  • nyc57

Kris did some requests at his last couple of shows but they were off the cuff and he didn’t remember all the words. The audience loved it anyway.Hopefully we will get some songs that he never sang live.I want Love Too Much but I doubt he’ll do it.

  • Miz

Ooooh! I hope a bunch of people request ‘Love Too Much’. I love that song.

  • Miz

OK, that makes sense. I can see that now.

  • girlygirltoo

Love Too Much, Running and I Was Played (both off his BNS album) and Top of the World (the song he wrote with Mat Kearney) are some of the songs I’d love to hear him perform live. I’m going to his show in Philly on Friday (part of my trip back East to see my family, haha) and then again when he’s out here in So Cal next month. Can’t wait!

  • Eileen99

That cast is almost bigger than Kris is, lol.  Fun idea to name the cast & list all the cities, though. Fans will probably get a kick out of looking at it & signing it.

It’s probably going to be pretty gross & smelly after a while, hee.  Hopefully it’s off by the time they hit the PNW in mid-February.

    Dotty looks fun, too.

  • Jonins

Can somebody request him sing his cover of “Everything” by Michael Buble? I will never forget what Kara said during Top 36 (when she critiqued Kris for singing Man in the Mirror) that his rendition of Everything had blown her away adding it’s better than the original. I hope someone out there will request that.

  • roarpen

I love his sense of humor. And I’m so happy for Kris and Katy.

  • Pippygirl

Yes, “Everything” would be awesome! So would “Love Too Much”.

Also Kris looks about 13 in that pic-certainly not old enough to be a dad. :)

  • Elizabeth

So excited for all the Kris fans going to the shows – just a little jealous, but happy for you guys.  I wonder if he has ever come up with a name for the “Paul Simon” song.  I loved hearing that song live when he first played it in St Louis.  Looking forward to videos of any new Kris songs.

I also love it that he is so excited to be a new daddy – so happy for he and Katy.

Ram’s Head, Annapolis, 1/14, is SOLD OUT ($19.50).  That gave me a lift.

In NY, Kris is billed second, opening for Paula Cole.  I never heard of her, but she sold millions.

  • mmb

Paula Cole had a big hit album and 2 big radio hits (one of which was used as a theme song for Dawson’s Creek) in the late 90s.  She won the Best New Artist Grammy.  She was pretty much everywhere.  Then kind of disappeared, or at least never had similar commercial success.

  • Axxxel

Not a fan of Kris Allen, but when he sang “Heartless” on American Idol, my heart melted…Hopefully one of his fans will request it during the tour.

  • mzhallcat

Eeeek, the size of that cast!!!  It needs it’s own name!!! That would certainly be an inconvenience to daily life such as dressing, bathing, etc.  Factor in the pain level (less than a week since surgery) and I have to give major props to Kris for his commitment to his fans that the show must go on.

Having said that and knowing Kris’s snarky sense of humor, that cast and the difficulties it causes will no doubt be a source of hilarious banter on this tour.  I wonder how much food he has dropped on that monstrosity trying to eat and drink with his left hand.

  • BigNLiddle

“it’s time” by imagine dragons! :)
