Kris Allen Shoots the Music Video for “The Truth”

I really like Marco Puig’s work. So far, so good.

Jim Cantiello of MTV News had a couple of mysterious tweets this afternoon:

Just got off the phone with a very sweaty “Idol.” #TheTruth is you’ll have some awesome LOL tidbits comin’ atcha tomorrow! #OMGQuicksand

Sneak peek: “James Cameron is actually directing this video. It’ll be 3-D, and it’s costing $3 billion. Hope the song does well!” HA!!

Also, I like the fever dream idea! That might work well with the “weird and creepy but in a good way” description Kris gave Jim earlier this month. I’m pretty excited about the video, and I agree Marco Puig did an awesome job with LLWD. I can hardly wait to see it!

It looks like they will be using CGI, which should up the price of the video, and might mean that it will be longer than two weeks before we get to see it.

OMG, now I’m even more excited/anxious/intrigued about the video! Hurry up and edit that bad boy!

What is CGI?

Elliegrll, forgive me if this is obvious, but what clued you into CGI being used?

The new video is helmed by “Live Like We’re Dying” director, Marco Puig, so it’s bound to be on the surreal side.

Reportedly, Marco Puig did not direct Kris’ video and it was actually Aaron Platt but there has not been any confirmation either way. Both had worked on LLWD with Puig as director and Platt as Director of Photography.

Yay! I’m so excited. I hope they will release it asap.

Between Saturday night’s epic gigs and the music video news this evening, I’m delurking too. I’m usually tied up during the day, so most of the time I miss @jambajim’s tweets until evening. Did he really suggest James Cameron was involved with CGI technology on the KA TT video? Fascinating!

Even if not, I’m certain the music video will be awesome. Kris is, above all, determined to do justice to the music. So we know it will be the antithesis of cheesey. Can’t wait to see it!

PS: Loved what Marco Puig did with LLWD. So I’m comfortable with Kris’ instincts—no matter who the final director may be. Also love Cindy Vela’s casting as the female lead. I remain optomistic that the video’s going to be great. I know it’s not popular, but I even like the starring jacket in this role!

I think CGI stands for computer generated images, in other words, special effects. So maybe things will be “melting” a la Dali? Sounds really cool! Loved the twitpics above. Does his own stunts. LOL!

Elliegrll, forgive me if this is obvious, but what clued you into CGI being used?

If Kris is jumping down from the piano just onto the ground, that’s not a huge jump, so it seems like they will be doing something to make the jump look longer/more dramatic than it is. Plus, Jambajim’s tweets about James Cameron, quick sand, and the cost of the video. I could be wrong about the CGI, but I think it goes along with the video looking weird, and the references to Salvador Dali.

yes, I’m buying the fever dream concept. I feel it will be more elaborated than LLWD. Love that it happens in the desert; the scenery and luminosity will add awesomeness to this vid.

Well it seems to me that everyone involved with this video, including Kris, is totally busting our chops by tweeting cryptic messages! It almost seems like everyone involved was given a script as to what to say, what pics to post, etc!

The suspense is killing me which I suppose is the point. So edit and finish producing this freaking video already!

Crowd surfing looks a lot safer than that! I’m assuming if he tweeted the pic after the fact that he survived the stunt!

IDK what a fever dream is, but it looks like MJ initially wrote about it in the intro.

Thanks J9BT–didn’t see that in the intro. I suppose a fever dream is as likely as any other scenario for this video–why not?!

Yeah, I wasn’t really sure either. I’d love to hear exactly what mj meant.

But it made me think that the song could represent the story/feelings of a bad dream – the kind you’d get when you’re feverishly ill. Like when you keep trying to figure out what’s true and you keep trying to keep something very bad from happening and it’s just very scary and creepy. And I saw someone on twitter predicted that falling off the piano could be the “wake up” from the dream.

I had posted a while back in another thread how excited I am about this MV not knowing there was another thread in progress RN. They sure are causing a lot of anticipation…my hopes are pretty high right now.

Aaron Platt’s Coldplay music video is beautifully/artistically rendered. The guy has mad talent. I’ve no worries about The Truth’s success on the charts. This single, like Daughtry’s single, will really take off late summer/fall. It’s got the end of summer vibe, namely the end of the summer romances and needing to face the truth, parting ways. I think the timing is spot-on and the music video will add emotional impact. I’m really excited to see what Platt has in mind. Puig or Platt, they both are exceptionally talented with a keen artistic eye. (repeat of what I posted elsewhere.)

I really want to see this video. I hope it will turn out to be a great video that will help the song.

I also hope that the video helps the (sale of the) song. With the CD having such disappointing sales, I sure would hate for Kris to go down as a One Hit Wonder.

I am in the “I can’t wait to see the video” club too. Based on the pictures and hints, it sounds like it will be awesome. This is a fun summer for Kris fans with all of the awesome concert videos to watch and now we get to look forward to the video coming out.

Kris will never be a one hit wonder. He has way too many fans for that. I have to add my 2 cents here. I think the idea of this video is that The Truth is not about the The Truth at all. Think about the clues and the words in the song, Wishing I could fade away, vanish out into thin air, pretend that we don’t see it, we don’t believe it, trying to be perfect. Now the clues, I see a mirage, so hot (but there is a jacket) indicative of cold, Hansel (Hansel and Gretal a fairytale), quicksand, not sure where this fits except it sucks you in, falling back on the bed, and the mirror, an image. I have no clue about the chandalier, thats a thinker (unless he swings while the walls tumble). Cindy Vela could be the woman walking away, (representing many) as Pat sings his part, indicating this happens to many. (Didn’t Pat tweet that they need 50 extras for a video they were filming. The 50 extras could be walking in the other direction, letting the end begin). It’s easier than telling The Truth. Just some thoughts.

I hope that we will get more details about the video soon. All the clues so far and the pictures are intriguing.

Thank luly. Whoever said this song was a flop, I beg to differ. Live like we’re dying had a slow start as well. Lady Antebellum’s I need you now was on the charts for 7 months before it struck it big. Sometimes things just need a little time.

The extras were for Train’s new video. They needed extras for a wedding scene that they were filming the day before shooting for The Truth started.

I’d bet my bank account that Jim Cantiello’s tweet about Cameron, 3D, and $3 billion was absolute snark towards the ‘concern’ and anticipation for this video, the song, and Kris’ career in general. The #Quicksand may just be that the turnaround will be quick … and sand may or may not be involved. (I’m dying to know if my location guess is correct.)

The timing is actually perfect, in my opinion. Most high school and college sweethearts break up in the fall/winter as couples move away from each other for school or career. Marriages fall apart around the New Year and divorces happen around tax season.

MJ, I know what you mean by ‘fever dream’. My most memorable one should have been a Coke commercial. I was in an unending stark white room with a sea of ice cold bottles of Coke (before twist tops) and no bottle opener. I was hot. I was thirsty. I woke up when my Dad followed me out of the house to see where I was sleepwalking to in my pajamas. I was going to a gas station to buy a bottle of Coke. I also had pneumonia and it was the dead of winter.

Dreams are wonderful. They’re how our mind works out our everyday problems.

The cameraman worked on Inception? Didn’t know that. Last night’s NBC Nightly News did a piece on the movie and how people are fascinated by dreams. That would be very timely for this video to tie into that interest. Maybe JIVE is smarter than we give them credit for. In which case, YAY for Kris!

This will surely be as good, if not better than LLWD video. I do hope it enables the song to do better than it has. I also agree the timing with kids going away to school is great. I remember playing the same sad songs over and over when I went away to school and had to be separated from my h.s. sweetheart..

I just can’t get over being hot just by looking at that picture of Kris in his jacket in this weather?! ugh. Much less being in a desert…wearing that jacket. double ugh.

But glad it’s done shooting, and can’t wait for it to be released and for us to find out which ‘hints’ were actually relevant and how.

The interview makes me want even more to already see the video. It sounds interesting.

It would be funny if you were walking through the desert and you came across a piano just sitting out there!! So, from that interview there isn’t any quicksand in the video but orbs sound interesting though.

I’m here already at the hotel, Kris poster everywhere.

I bought the ticket already through ticket master and it gave a seat number, but then the box office lady said that it is general admission and first come first serve. Yikes, I have to line up again. The door opens at 7:00 pm and I asked if people usually line up or not. And she said depends with the show, sometimes people line up by 5:00pm. So, I’ll have to see.

In my opinion the “insults” were no worse than what Kris has had to endure in reviews of Adam. It’s just another sign of lazy reporting.

It seems it is almost impossible for the media to talk about Kris without mentioning Adam, very annoying, and I think Kris has to put up with a lot more insults than Adam.

That is indeed lazy reporting. Unfortunately, I think it will be awhile longer before Kris and Adam are no longer mentioned together. They are each finding their own way, and it is what it is. I can see some progress toward separation, finding its way to their respective places. The sooner the better.
