Kris Allen tells Clevver news that his next album is tentatively set to come out late May or early June, with the single dropping in late February. Hooray!

Kris says the single will be an “uplifting song…a world song that’s about people being good to each other,” he adds, “I don’t feel like it’s done in a cheesy way…I’m so scared of cheese!”

“Teach me How it Goes,” “Monster” and “Out Alive” are three songs he’s really excited for fans to hear.

Yes, I know they are beloved by some fans. I just don’t care who backs Kris up, just so they are good and committed to Kris’ artistic vision. I’m all about Kris and the others are just support.

Sorry, but I feel this way about all the solo artists I enjoy. It’s really nothing against the band!

*My vote is that Kris was talking about Out Alive as the most probable single choice. His description of the single didn’t match the VOL lyrics, IMO.

I don’t think anyone in Kris fandom would really expect them to be. I’ve actually never seen the issues about the band that I’ve seen in other fandoms, which is great. But they are beloved, and excellent musicians, so I think it’s natural for some Kris fans to hope they’d play on the album.

I wouldn’t be upset if they became an actual band.  I’d have to kiss my hope of them sounding a bit more soulful and r&b-ish away, but they do make a really good group.

It depends on how you look at the VOL lyrics.  He could be talking about people in a relationship, who are having problems, or he could be talking about people helping one another, and not walking away when it’s clear that a person is hurting.  With this song, I think it would be better if everyone gets to interpret it in their own way.  It works on so many levels, like a lot of good songs do, so I wouldn’t spoil it for anyone by taking away one of the meanings that it could have.

In a way, it has a very passionate meaning when it’s interpreted as Kris singing to or about a couple.

siennalily, I’d be happy with a Mayer/Kris tour too. :D I remember the YouTube of Kris attending a John Mayer show, he’s definitely an influence for Kris, musically.

I missed the first Lyndsey Parker interview with Kris so I can’t judge how much of a jerk she was to him. I did really enjoy her interview with him after she previewed his album. I also saw someone interview Lyndsey where she explained Idol was to her like a sporting event was to some people, and she was really upset when her team (Adam) lost. Then Kris won her over, first on the tour, and then with his album which she thought was very good. He seems very comfortable with her so I’m not going to hold a grudge.
One of the most awkward interviews Kris ever had that I’ve seen was with Rickey (Rickey.org) at Atlantic City. It seemed obvious that he hadn’t forgiven Rickey for that rumor about his album being a mess that Rickey started. I don’t blame Kris because I think that whole thing really hurt him. I guess he is human after all. lol!

I really like VOL and when I went back and looked at the lyrics again I think Kris could have been talking about it as the first single.

When Kris talked about where he likes to write, my mental image as he spoke … I thought, there is your album cover!

That is another way of looking at it.

Whatever the first single is, Out Alive is a song Kris is very excited about and we know VOL is going to be good! It’s just fun to try and guess!

A DJ from a radio station in Canada likes the remix.

Hoosiermama, I’ve always thought a Jason Mraz / Kris Allen concert would be a great fit.

I may be off here, but I don’t think any of the song titles he gave are going to be the first single. Kris likes to surprise people. The way he described the song as an uplifting world song made me think of “Fighters.”  I remember when those 3 song demos were leaked, Kris said two were old and one was a potential for this album.  “Fighters” has been removed from youtube due to copyright claims, but the other two are both still available on there.  Why else would “Fighters” be removed, but not “Love Too Much” or “I Don’t Wanna Know?”  I could be reading too much into this though.

Holding Zorro, though.   Like he said…loves that dog and hinted he wanted the dog on the cover.   I can see Kris on the porch sitting in a rocking chair, guitar in hand, strumming a tune and Zorro…either sleeping next to him or sitting by the chair looking at Kris.

I think it was when Kris met Jim that Jim really became a fan.  Jim was interviewing Season 8 singers somewhere…maybe it was at the Finale…and Kris told Jim that Idol in 60 minutes was really funny.   That clinched it for Jim.  It was true love after that and they became actual friends.

I don’t like Lyndsey Parker nor do I buy her repentance.  She knows if she’s nice to Kris’ fans, she’ll get hits on her site.
But…I didn’t come here to waste my time talking about someone the likes of her.

I love VOL, and I’m thrilled with all the bloggers and the media who are giving great feedback for VOL and Kris in general.

Hopefully…his time has come to shine and outshine.   As one of the bloggers said…his dance remix is better than Chris Brown’s.   I like the sound of that, quite honestly.

No mention of the Band.  I guess they’re not on the album.

True bands play together for studio recordings, but that’s not generally what happens with Solo artists.  They almost never use their backing musicians in the studio but instead hire session players or use synth production techniques.  A good music director then helps convert these studio recordings to a form that can be sung by the solo artist and played by his/her backing musicians in a live concert setting.  Kris is a solo artist, so it wouldn’t be surprising if his backing musicians aren’t playing in the studio recording tracks.

I don’t know.  That sounds like a country cover art to me, and that doesn’t seem to be what kris wants to represent.  In fact his latest music sounds like it’s moving in the very opposite direction.

That sounds like a country cover art to me

I agree a little bit, but mainly because of the rocking chair.  But, Kris had some amazingly sexy pictures in his first album’s booklet, where it was just him and his guitar.  Those pictures didn’t make him look like a country singer, especially the one where he is clasping his guitar, while he has his head down.

Kris tweeted last night about recording more songs — and he tweeted lyrics to the BBQ song! So hopefully that is a contender to make the final track list (at least as a bonus song)

I love all three songs, but the reason LTM and IDWK haven’t been removed is because they were 2009 demos, candidates for the first album that were not used.

I can totally see Fighters fitting what Kris described, and I definitely hope it makes the album. I always hope he’ll tweet a lyric from it.

Yay for the BBQ song lyric! Hopeful that it makes the album. Love.

elliegrll: I agree, ixnay on the rocking chair. While some of the pics on KATA were sexy, I’d really like a cover photo of him not playing his guitar. Just look at me (like Kelly’s or Adam’s new album pics), but knowing Kris, he’d probably rather turn his head and look at Zorro! lol

  • Anonymous

I think I would like the album cover to be Kris while he is singing. He gets lost in the music and some of those pics have been amazing. As for the pics from KATA, my personal favorite is the mirror picture.

  • Anonymous

The mirror picture is a work of art.  I hope that they can find another photographer who can capture that side of Kris.

The cover art for the last album was beautiful but ‘introspective’ and ‘serious’ so personally I don’t think the cover art for the new album will be going in this direction for some reason. Kris has a dynamic side and a fun side for sure and I think this is going to be more of what we’re gonna see.
