Kris Allen tells Clevver news that his next album is tentatively set to come out late May or early June, with the single dropping in late February. Hooray!

Kris says the single will be an “uplifting song…a world song that’s about people being good to each other,” he adds, “I don’t feel like it’s done in a cheesy way…I’m so scared of cheese!”

“Teach me How it Goes,” “Monster” and “Out Alive” are three songs he’s really excited for fans to hear.

His stellar dance moves? We saw those on Idol don’t embarrass him by making him dance label! The boy does not have rhythm.

I can’t wait for the rest of this interview!

Excited that we’ll have first single by end of next month. I’m feeling it’s more likely he’ll tease it on the 9th. Cannot wait!

Please please please, album in May (or sooner).

He’s on a talk show, it’s the interviewer who wants to see his dance moves, not the label.

That being said, I love the moves that he does during his concerts, especially the world famous (at least among his fans) Drop It Like It’s Hot.

Finally got a chance to watch this (news overload this morning but I love it). Excited that Kris was able to give some news! I’m really interested to see where he goes with this album – I want more soul in his delivery and some of the songs he’s been playing point that to that being a big possibility. So the countdown’s on, right? Probably about 4 weeks to the new single? Yay!

  • Anonymous

Oh happy day!! I’m gonna hold you RCA to the “end of February” timeline for that single because it’s winter and I need something exciting to look forward to!

Like everyone else, I’m VERY curious about this song. The lyrics are uplifting which ties into LLWD, so that would transition him well. Upbeat tempo is a must–and the reports are that the original is upbeat. I love Kris’ falsetto (AWM anyone?) and it sounds soooo good in this remix (yay!) that it HAS to be good in the original, right? Another verse or a bridge might be a great addition (kinda sparse lyrics), altho I like that one verse highlights a girl and another a guy (very inclusive)! Overall, I’m pretty happy with this collaboration and hope Kris performs VOL soon!

I expect him to premiere about 3 new songs at the Mint…just like he did at the Miami tailgate. That’s a great strategy (as was releasing this remix!). Looking forward to more new music from Kris! :-)

“Monster” sounds so intriguing. I just can’t wait to hear it.

Oh, and the new edited version of the interview is different than the original version they posted. They don’t mention the song titles in it.

  • happyhexer

I am so excited and happy for Kris’ fans.  I’ll bet the fans will find that it has been worth the wait.  I’m sure the RCA/Jive restructuring caused some delay, but now the great reveal is starting.  (I’m kind of glad that Kris has been lowkey until he had something definite to announce.  Not fond of artists stringing their fans along, even when it’s not deliberate.)

I am not a Kris fan, but I do think he has a lovely voice.  And I will check out his new album regardless, because I may find one or more tracks that I wish to purchase.  (It goes without saying that if I like most of the songs, I’ll buy the whole CD.)  I only bought one track from Kris’ first album, but it is a song that I really, really love.  I never get tired of hearing it.

  • Anonymous

It’s going to be a long four months waiting for the album, but at least we’ll have acoustic versions of some new music in a couple of weeks, and single news possibly next week.  Can’t wait to hear the songs Kris is most excited about.

That was supposed to be “well worth the wait.”  *sigh*

    v

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

I think that the title of the other song was “Teach Me How Love Goes”. I can’t double-check anymore, but that’s what I heard Kris say.

Out of the three songs, he sounded most excited about “Monster” – he went into so much detail about it – so I’m really hoping he plays it at The Mint. I wonder if it’s the one with the line: “maybe I should wear a warning that says there is danger if you ever get to close to me.”

I agree with the people who say that the description of the song that Kris is talking about in the interview sounds like “Vision of Love”.

This whole interview just made me so happy and excited about the new album. It’s so hard to believe that it’s just around the corner!

    Kris lyric of the day:

“bright lights tearin us apart. It’s gonna hurt all over.”

  • Anonymous

I thought that it was good.  We received song titles, a tentative release date, saw how excited Kris is, heard about his involvement in putting the album together, and more.

This was part one, and they are releasing another video, the one that shows Kris dancing, so maybe that one will be more exciting for you.

  • Anonymous

“I like to take the focus away from me a lot ”

    Sigh.
I’m a huge dog lover, but I better not see Zorro’s face in that album cover.

Really great to see how excited Kris is with the recording process, studio time and everything about making the album. I’m just happy for him for all these opportunities, learning new stuff.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Oh, tripp! Great sleuthing on that. Though it was fun trying to figure out what the acronym meant. (I still like ‘A Wild Night in Toluca Lake’)

I want the album before May/June … but I want Kris to have support for it from RCA, etc. I’ll wait begrudgingly. Particularly since he plans on singing the new stuff before it’s released. Going to be a lot of ripping going on though.

  • Anonymous

OK, I did not see the video earlier, so I was confused where people got all the different song titles. So, Kris probably is excited describing Monster ?
Wasn’t he kind of excited for Out Alive ?
The 2 songs that we’ve heard already ( they better be on the album !), I love already : Leave You Alone and You Got A Way.

This album will be great !

  • moonz

I was thrilled when he mentioned that they were playing around with the Glockenspiel.  I played that in high school. My music teacher loved it and taught us how to play.

I really want to see the video’s from Feb 9th. Kris is so good looking and his sexy self is more pronounced when he performs. It’s like icing on a cake haha.

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

Ratna12: Yeah, the earlier interview was mostly the same as the version they replaced it with, but Kris mentioned specific song titles. I guess someone decided that it was too revealing! Unfortunately for them, the internet catches these things.

“So, Kris probably is excited describing Monster ?
Wasn’t he kind of excited for Out Alive ?”

Kris is definitely excited for all three of the songs that he mentioned, but just in terms of the way he acted when talking about them, I think he’s most excited about “Monster”. With “Teach Me How Loves Goes” he just said “it’s a cool one”. “Out Alive” he described as an “epic ‘we’ll make it through this” song.

“The 2 songs that we’ve heard already ( they better be on the album !), I love already : Leave You Alone and You Got A Way.”

We’re pretty sure that LYA and YGAW will be on the album because Kris has tweeted lyrics from each of them in his daily lyrics tweets. The only one of the songs that he’s already previewed that he hasn’t done the lyrics tweet for is Shut That Door And Keep That Devil Out. I’m hoping that one will at least be a bonus track somewhere. I love it.

There was a lot of interesting stuff in that interview, not just about songs and dates, but the process as well. Interviewers tend to get what they deserve with Kris; he’s always charming and good natured, but the people who put some effort into their questions get thoughtful and detailed answers from him. I love listening to him talk about his music.

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

Yeah, I’ve noticed that, too. If someone is genuinely open and interested, Kris will talk a lot about a variety of topics, but if they’re being a jerk, Kris will just answer the questions without much elaboration.

  • Tess

If your assessment is really true and Kris cherry picks his answers based on the interviewer…well, I don’t think that bodes well for his character and his ability to sell his material.  I’m sure Kris realizes that it is important to sell himself every chance he gets…being charming to a scummy interviewer makes him look like a champion….I don’t think he would want to come across as a douche just because the interview isn’t going in a comfortable direction for him.

  • Anonymous

No mention of the Band.  I guess they’re not on the album.  VOL gives me thrills and chills.  My only question is about repeating the same 6 words so many times…will some people write it off as lack of talent and creativity?

  • Anonymous

I’m a huge dog lover, but I better not see Zorro’s face in that album cover.

I don’t think we have to worry about this.  Kris doesn’t like being the focus, but the RCA promo department isn’t crazy, so they aren’t going to let him  do this.

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

I didn’t say that he wasn’t still nice and polite to them, just that he doesn’t open up in the same way to people who are being dismissive or who are obviously uninterested in his answers. He closes down a little. He’s gotten better at not doing that over the last couple of years but it’s still there.

While it might be better for his career if Kris were able to be just as enthusiastic with people who are being jerks to him, I don’t think that lack of enthusiasm says anything in particular about his character, just about his selling skills.

  • Anonymous

There’s a difference between being a d-bag and giving standard answers.  Character, or lack of IYO, has nothing to do with it.

  • Anonymous

being charming to a scummy interviewer makes him look like a champion

An example of this is his first long interview with Lyndsey Parker.  Even though I admire Kris being the bigger person, I still can’t get over the fact that she planned on going out of her way to belittle him during that interview.  I know that she’s expressed shame for that since then, but it is still something that makes me sick to my stomach.

I don’t think that Kris’ “cherry Picking” as you called it says a lot about his character, but I will say that he has to control the interview.  With Kris, interviews are like he is just having a one on one conversation with the interviewer, which is nice, and why he doesn’t get into detailed answers with bad interviewers, who act like they are not interested.  But he has to remember that the interviewers aren’t the people who he is communicating with, it’s their audience.  So even if the interviewers are being jerks, he has to make sure he gets his message out.

Besides Lyndsey, he’s also done well with a few other nasty or poor interviewers, and won over some, who may not have been open to him.  I think that’s happened with a few radio djs.

  • yasminewriter

i feel like vision of love will be his first single ,the remix is pretty awesome ,these details make me more exicted

Ryland was in on a drum session when they were recording with Tim Pagnotta so it¨s not out of the question that other band member did play on some track. But they did not record this album as a band that¨s pretty clear.

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

I’m guessing part of that repetition is the remix and not the original. I’ve heard a lot of remixes that repeat the main hook over and over.

I agree.  That’s a common element in dance music.

i believe the repeating of the same 6 words is the remix work

  • Anonymous

Since multiple remixes were commissioned, I wonder if we will get a chance to hear all of them.  The one that leaked is good, but I’d love to hear the others.

  • Tess

My point exactly.  I’m not a Kris “fan” but I do think he is smart enough to understand that it isn’t about the interviewer but the audience that listens to the interview.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Kris also said ‘maybe me and Zorro thugging’. It didn’t sound like he would do just Zorro on the cover.

Kris ‘thugging’ is usually when he makes those goofy faces that I hate. Please, just NO, Kris!

Kris is always charming no matter who he interviews with, but he definitely gives better interviews and information to people who appear actively engaged … and haven’t trashed him in the past.

  • Anonymous

So far we know of Kris, Ryland, Andrew and now Cale have all played on tracks for cd#2.

  • Anonymous

Kris is a solo artist, not a band. His band members may play some on the album, but they are not the focus of this album.

  • Anonymous

The interview is for the listeners, which are fans or potential new fans. It is not for the person doing the interview. Everyone has to deal with sub-par interviewers, they just have to learn how to work around them to promote what they are there for.
An interview is an opportunity, not a chat with a friend or an ego boost. It is part of the job. Like everyone’s job, some parts may not be fun or even very pleasant, but they are necessary and part of the requirement.

I liked the girl that interviewed Kris. She wasn’t extremely knowledgeable about music, but she was engaged and positive.

elliegirl: If Kris can move past the first interview with Lyndsey, I can. She has apologized to Kris and his fans and said how bad she feels about the way she acted in the first interview. If her actions hadn’t matched her apology, then I would still be upset with her.

She has become a big supporter of Kris and his music. Plus, she and Slezak have the best interviews with Idols. I’m looking forward to Lyndsey’s interview with Kris after she previews a few of his new tracks, because she is knowledgeable concerning Kris’ music and music in general. It will be an interview full of music news, and those are the best IMO.

  • Anonymous

Kris rocks! Love me some Kris. And as much as I love Lyndsey Parker – not when it comes to Kris.

  • Anonymous

Really enjoyed this interview.  Kris is so funny about Zorro’s name – cracked me up.  An interesting vision, too, of his sitting on the porch, train going by in the distance, and writing his music – like that.  And a vinyl release – very nice.  (Still have my stereo setup – never put it away.)

  • Anonymous

I just can’t be the bigger person, because I don’t understand what would make someone want to intentionally try to hurt a person, just because they won a talent show.  Maybe if I can understand that it would help me see her in a better light.  I just can’t help but think that if she did that to Kris that she would have no problem with doing it to other people.   In fact, she has.

  • Anonymous

He never comes across as a douche. He is always friendly with interviewers. But he opens up a lot more with the ones who actually take the time to come up with some interesting, fresh questions, rather than recycle the same old things that — 3 years off AI, no longer make much sense to be asking. Ask Kris  about his music if you want him to give you in depth answers — not about whether he still keeps in touch with the other S8ers or what he thinks of the Idol judges or how is he & Katy dealing with new found fame. You can joke with him — he’s such a dork and doesn’t seem to mind possibly embarrassing himself (see the dancing or talking naked sleepwalking adventures). But I would bet that, like most artists, he gets tired of answering the same old questions from interviewers who can’t be bothered to even do their research.

ETA – I agree that the interviews are for the people watching them, not the people doing them, and that Kris needs to take more control when the interview may not be going well. I think he has learned how to do that a little bit more, but still needs work in this area. But in the end, if the interviewer isn’t interested, it is hard to make it into a good interview, no matter how open and engaging you try to be. It has to be a 2-way conversation, not a monologue or a dissertation :)

  • Anonymous

Random thought on this rainy day….anyone think Jason Mraz would be a good tour match for Kris? He’s releasing an album this year and we know Kris likes his music (well, at least the song he and Katy danced to at their wedding). I have no idea what kind of show Jason does on tour (just watched his lyric video for his new song–liked it) and thought hmmm.

  • Anonymous

I do understand because it pissed me off too!  I also remember when Jim and Slezak weren’t always the nicest, most supportive towards Adam. They were Kris stans and it colored their judgment in interviews and comments they made towards Adam. They moved past all that, just like Lyndsey moved past her judgment error. Now, I can enjoy Jim’s interviews with Adam and I can enjoy Lyndsey’s interviews with Kris.

Lyndsey might do it to someone else, but she might have learned from it. The actions behind her apology show that an actual change has occurred, but those actions need to continue into the future!

I think Lyndsey let her personal preference get in the way, just like Jim and Slezak and all Idol bloggers do. They are human. They have favorites and Idols they can hardly stand. Sometimes it colors their judgment and the better ones rise above their personal feelings and act like professionals.

Hoosiermama, I would love a Jason/Kris collab or tour. I’ve seen Jason’s special on Palladia- he’s a lot of fun live from what I saw and I think the matchup could work well.

So far we know of Kris, Ryland, Andrew and now Cale have all played on tracks for cd#2.

Hope to hear about Torres and even Drew soon!

Kris is a solo artist, not a band. His band members may play some on the album, but they are not the focus of this album.

I don’t think anyone in Kris fandom would really expect them to be. I’ve actually never seen the issues about the band that I’ve seen in other fandoms, which is great. But they are beloved, and excellent musicians, so I think it’s natural for some Kris fans to hope they’d play on the album.

I do understand because it pissed me off too!  I also remember when
Jim and Slezak weren’t always the nicest, most supportive towards Adam.

It’s funny how I see a lot of fans saying that Jim C. was a Kris fan.  I know he liked both Adam and Kris but in his post S8 finale show it was pretty clear to me that he thought Adam deserved the win.  He did get in Kris’s corner eventually, however.  Slezak I know was a Kris fan but I didn’t really think that he was unfair or unprofessional to Adam in his interviews.  Lyndsey, however, posted a blog about how “America Got It Wrong” and proceeded to spend her Kris interview talking about Adam.  Of course she is entitled to her opinion and her interviews with Kris about his first album were really good and focused on the music which I appreciated.  Of course then she interviewed Kris at the AMA’s and just had to rub it in that Adam was asked to perform and Kris wasn’t.  I just think that these people are human like the rest of us and sometimes it’s hard to separate your personal feelings from your work.

Sorry for the double post.  How do you delete? Help!

Anayway, regarding Kris touring.  Jason Mraz would be great but now that he’s put John Mayer in my head I can’t get it out.  That would be so great.  I know John Mayer’s personality is a bit douchey at times but maybe Kris could be a good influence on him LOL!

aw touring with John Mayer, that would be good. He draws good crowds; i went to his show 2 years ago in Montreal and there was 8,000+ people there

Yes, I know they are beloved by some fans. I just don’t care who backs Kris up, just so they are good and committed to Kris’ artistic vision. I’m all about Kris and the others are just support.

Sorry, but I feel this way about all the solo artists I enjoy. It’s really nothing against the band!

*My vote is that Kris was talking about Out Alive as the most probable single choice. His description of the single didn’t match the VOL lyrics, IMO.

I wouldn’t be upset if they became an actual band.  I’d have to kiss my hope of them sounding a bit more soulful and r&b-ish away, but they do make a really good group.

It depends on how you look at the VOL lyrics.  He could be talking about people in a relationship, who are having problems, or he could be talking about people helping one another, and not walking away when it’s clear that a person is hurting.  With this song, I think it would be better if everyone gets to interpret it in their own way.  It works on so many levels, like a lot of good songs do, so I wouldn’t spoil it for anyone by taking away one of the meanings that it could have.

In a way, it has a very passionate meaning when it’s interpreted as Kris singing to or about a couple.

siennalily, I’d be happy with a Mayer/Kris tour too. :D I remember the YouTube of Kris attending a John Mayer show, he’s definitely an influence for Kris, musically.

I missed the first Lyndsey Parker interview with Kris so I can’t judge how much of a jerk she was to him. I did really enjoy her interview with him after she previewed his album. I also saw someone interview Lyndsey where she explained Idol was to her like a sporting event was to some people, and she was really upset when her team (Adam) lost. Then Kris won her over, first on the tour, and then with his album which she thought was very good. He seems very comfortable with her so I’m not going to hold a grudge.
One of the most awkward interviews Kris ever had that I’ve seen was with Rickey (Rickey.org) at Atlantic City. It seemed obvious that he hadn’t forgiven Rickey for that rumor about his album being a mess that Rickey started. I don’t blame Kris because I think that whole thing really hurt him. I guess he is human after all. lol!

I really like VOL and when I went back and looked at the lyrics again I think Kris could have been talking about it as the first single.

When Kris talked about where he likes to write, my mental image as he spoke … I thought, there is your album cover!

That is another way of looking at it.

Whatever the first single is, Out Alive is a song Kris is very excited about and we know VOL is going to be good! It’s just fun to try and guess!

Hoosiermama, I’ve always thought a Jason Mraz / Kris Allen concert would be a great fit.

  • Michael Cunningham

I may be off here, but I don’t think any of the song titles he gave are going to be the first single. Kris likes to surprise people. The way he described the song as an uplifting world song made me think of “Fighters.”  I remember when those 3 song demos were leaked, Kris said two were old and one was a potential for this album.  “Fighters” has been removed from youtube due to copyright claims, but the other two are both still available on there.  Why else would “Fighters” be removed, but not “Love Too Much” or “I Don’t Wanna Know?”  I could be reading too much into this though.

Holding Zorro, though.   Like he said…loves that dog and hinted he wanted the dog on the cover.   I can see Kris on the porch sitting in a rocking chair, guitar in hand, strumming a tune and Zorro…either sleeping next to him or sitting by the chair looking at Kris.

  • MissMyEm

I think it was when Kris met Jim that Jim really became a fan.  Jim was interviewing Season 8 singers somewhere…maybe it was at the Finale…and Kris told Jim that Idol in 60 minutes was really funny.   That clinched it for Jim.  It was true love after that and they became actual friends.

  • MissMyEm

I don’t like Lyndsey Parker nor do I buy her repentance.  She knows if she’s nice to Kris’ fans, she’ll get hits on her site.
But…I didn’t come here to waste my time talking about someone the likes of her.

I love VOL, and I’m thrilled with all the bloggers and the media who are giving great feedback for VOL and Kris in general.

Hopefully…his time has come to shine and outshine.   As one of the bloggers said…his dance remix is better than Chris Brown’s.   I like the sound of that, quite honestly.

No mention of the Band.  I guess they’re not on the album.

True bands play together for studio recordings, but that’s not generally what happens with Solo artists.  They almost never use their backing musicians in the studio but instead hire session players or use synth production techniques.  A good music director then helps convert these studio recordings to a form that can be sung by the solo artist and played by his/her backing musicians in a live concert setting.  Kris is a solo artist, so it wouldn’t be surprising if his backing musicians aren’t playing in the studio recording tracks.

I don’t know.  That sounds like a country cover art to me, and that doesn’t seem to be what kris wants to represent.  In fact his latest music sounds like it’s moving in the very opposite direction.

That sounds like a country cover art to me

I agree a little bit, but mainly because of the rocking chair.  But, Kris had some amazingly sexy pictures in his first album’s booklet, where it was just him and his guitar.  Those pictures didn’t make him look like a country singer, especially the one where he is clasping his guitar, while he has his head down.

Kris tweeted last night about recording more songs — and he tweeted lyrics to the BBQ song! So hopefully that is a contender to make the final track list (at least as a bonus song)

I love all three songs, but the reason LTM and IDWK haven’t been removed is because they were 2009 demos, candidates for the first album that were not used.

I can totally see Fighters fitting what Kris described, and I definitely hope it makes the album. I always hope he’ll tweet a lyric from it.

Yay for the BBQ song lyric! Hopeful that it makes the album. Love.

elliegrll: I agree, ixnay on the rocking chair. While some of the pics on KATA were sexy, I’d really like a cover photo of him not playing his guitar. Just look at me (like Kelly’s or Adam’s new album pics), but knowing Kris, he’d probably rather turn his head and look at Zorro! lol

  • Anonymous

I think I would like the album cover to be Kris while he is singing. He gets lost in the music and some of those pics have been amazing. As for the pics from KATA, my personal favorite is the mirror picture.

  • Anonymous

The mirror picture is a work of art.  I hope that they can find another photographer who can capture that side of Kris.

  • Anonymous

The cover art for the last album was beautiful but ‘introspective’ and ‘serious’ so personally I don’t think the cover art for the new album will be going in this direction for some reason. Kris has a dynamic side and a fun side for sure and I think this is going to be more of what we’re gonna see.
