Update: Adam Lambert, Kris Allen, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and Daughtry are nominated for awards. (No Kelly Clarkson in any of the music categories. What’s up with that?)

American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, The Ellen Degeneres Show and Glee were nominated in the TV show categories. Check out the full list of nominees, after the jump.

The Peoples Choice Awards air on January 6, 2010

Kris Allen will be announcing the People’s Choice Awards 2010 nominees beginning at 9 am PST. He’ll join Cat Deeley (SYTYCD), Sofia Vergara (‘ Modern Family’ ), Jeff Probst (‘ Survivor’ ), and Johnny Galecki (‘ Big Bang Theory’ ) in Beverly Hills, Ca.

    Real Adam fans? Is there like a litmus test for this thing? Do you lose your number if you answer one of the trick questions wrong?

    Top 10 Things that Will Prevent you from Reaching the Apex of a True Fan (culled from many years within the Idol bubble and refering to no fan-base in particular) :

    10) Admitting you like a song on another guy’s album.

    9) Failing to vote the required 1000 times a day in the poll de jour.

    8 ) Being caught humming along to something produced by any other Idol.

    Uh,,,I’m as devoted and real an Adam fan as you will find, but I’m not voting for him to win this award. Everyone has their own opinion. Mine? Lady Gaga deserves the award. That doesn’t mean I don’t support Adam in all his endeavors and definitely with my dollars, and doesn’t make me any less of a “real” or “devoted” fan. Next year though?? When he’s actually had a product out there?? I’ll be spamming votes for him like nobody’s business.

    Actually, if it’s all positive, there really is no such thing as too much hype for someone with their debut album available for download during a recession in a failing music industry where millions of people loathe and never listen to radio. Hype = listen. People will get curious, and go listen. If they don’t like, they won’t buy. But to get the listens is priceless PR.

    Plenty of people think Lady GaGa doesn’t even come close to her hype. Yet, she’s selling those records.

    Really, IMHO, it’s inside the AI bubble that “too much hype” causes negative reaction. The people who prefer other contestants. The voters that say “don’t tell me what to do, I got my own ears.”

    People Mag is going to push the Idol Rematch meme. They’re gonna hype anything they can to get viewers and bring some interest to their award. It’s just one in a sea of many awards. So they’re likely to think the more hype, the better.

    Kris and Adam do not have anything out there yet to win this award with. Their albums are only coming out now. I would say the same about SuBo and she’s only doing covers, whereas at least the other 2 have albums with new music on it.

    Gaga has taken the music world by storm – I don’t think any of the others come even close to what she’s done this year.

Have other Idol winners or runners-up been nominated in this category before their albums have even dropped, or is this a first? And does this mean they are ineligible to be nominated in this category next year when, in all honesty, it might be more appropriate?

    People Magazine doesn’t have anything to do with the People’s Choice Awards. It’s solely sponsored by Proctor-Gamble. People Magazine teamed up with the People’s Choice Awards in 2008 to commemorate both entities’ 35th anniversary but per wiki, it was a one time thing. From the website:

    Coming in this morning to work, Ryan Seacrest had Jeff Probst on the radio. Ryan, in his usual half-joking, half douchey self, didn’t know who Cat Deely was LOL he “pretended” to not recognize her name. In addition to this slightly odd exchange, Jeff went on to give unsolicited praise to Kris. Said he was one of those guys when you first meet, you get an instant “good” vibe. I thought it was sweet for jeff (who ive met and is a great guy) to compliment another “celebrity” without anyone probing. Anyhoo, conference was at the Bazaar restaurant inside the SLS hotel. Its now over, but for eager fans, kris might still be around.

    Hahaha… David Cook’s butt pretty much always looks big to me. And he has a combover, gasp. You should add that to the list- Admitting that your Idol is balding and has hair issues. I think most of the DC fans here on MJ’s would be guilty. Some of us make fun of it wayyyy to much. All in good fun :).

    I’m actually agreeing that Kris and Adam can’t win cuz of votesplitting. We saw from Idol that despite whatever fanwarring we see on the boards, they share a lot of fans. If only one Idol had been nominated, then Idol nation may be able to rally against SuBo or something. But yeah, I’m thinking/hoping Lady GaGa is undeniable regardless. But the noms are great PR for the guys, so yay for that!

    People’s Choice Awards are never about what is “BEST”. They’re asking folks to pick their “FAVORITE”. Otherwise, no way “Twilight” would be nominated, nor most of the new comedies and dramas.

    thats what i want to know….what folks are these? are they a specific demographic, market? if we passed out ballots at walmarts across the country im betting the nominee list might be different than if we put up a poll on NPR or CNN.com. not saying one is better than the other…but i think those groups might yield (possibly) different results. ive always been interested how this is done…who compiles the nominee list and who votes for the winners. i think there was a period of many yrs, where Sandler kept winning Best Actor. :) almost as bad as the MTV Movie Awards hehe

    Just voted for : Adam , Muse, Lady gaga for favorite female pop, Carrie for country, Pink (sorry Kris fans, but do not worry, my tenage daughter and her friends will make up for it!) I do think, however, that it should one vote per person, I am not one of those people that sit and vote all day long, doesn’t make sense to me. Love Adam, wish him the best of luck!

    It’s the People’s Choice Awards, no one will care about who won, or even remember the day after they air. The best part of the show is getting air time, so that these artists, actors, etc. can promote themselves.

    David Cook has done an amazing job this year, but the nominations are a popularity contest, most of the people nominated this year won’t be back next year, that’s just how it is.

    ksgirlfordc – As far as I can tell people voted online for the artists – and Adam wasn’t on the original list, you had to vote under ‘other’ to GET him on the list, which voters obviously succeeding in doing. So the same could have been done for David Cook. Unfortunately it seems that not enough people voted for him.

    I hope Adam and Kris attend. I went to the People’s Choice Awards years ago as a seat filler! – yes think Krammer during his seat filling gig at the Oscars. For those of you who don’t know what a seat filler is, it’s a person who sits in any open seat so if the camera pans to the audience it looks like everyone is there. Anyhoo, some heavy hitters attend these things. During celebs various restroom breaks, I sat next to Mel Gibson, Natilie Cole, Randy Travis and I was at the table near Oprah. It’s a fun awards show.

I did some write-in votes for Cook as best male artist but when I saw Kris and Adam on break-out artist for this year I didn’t think of Cook for that one because it seemed to me like he would have been break-out artist for 08. And I would take Cook as a nominee over Eminem any day.

    I was hoping David Cook would get nominated and I and others did vote for him.

    Now, I like both Kris and Adam and glad they were recognized, but really, their cds aren’t even out. Even Susan Boyle’s cd isn’t out yet, I think it comes out the same day as Adams. I would think someone would have to have original music released in order to be be nominated for an award in music. I realize this is more of a popularity contest and obviously they don’t have this rule in this award. But I guess that means anyone can be nominated. It comes down to how they do qualifications for this award.

    If they’re somebody’s favorite at the People’e Choice or if their publicist figured out a way to get them in there, they’ll be on the list. It’s not rocket science or any kind of carefully regulated process, just some goofy awards that somebody came up with to try to get popular people to show up and pick up their awards so that the folks out there in America would tune in to see them. And they created the involvement device of voting to give those folks a stake. Sort of a precursor to American Idol, in a way.

    The fact that they change their categories willy nilly every year should be a hint that this is not to be taken too seriously. This year they felt the need to create categories for the Twilight people to fit into. It’s all about whims and trends and zeitgeist, as determined by somebody who runs this thing spitting and sticking his finger into the wind. Somebody who clearly missed the boat thinking that Eastwick mattered to anybody.

    Anyway, no, it’s not a huge award, BUT it is more exposure for Kris and Adam. GaGa is there, as well as a lot of major artists (you have Daughtry and Carrie also representing the Idols, tho Cook and Kelly were screwed, IMO), and so any press is good press at this point. They get interviewed, photographed, and get to talk about their albums. And hell, Kris or Adam might win (tho it’s unlikely). It’s really win/win.

    I think Lady Gaga has the Breakthrough Artist award in the bag (unfortunately). And I only say that because it’s an unfair advantage against the other nominees.

    But since American Idol is nominated for Competition Show, I have a pretty good feeling that Kris and Adam will be presenting that award together. Or I hope so anyway. :)

    I think someone said that winners are informed ahead of time if they win their category so they can make an appearance but even if Kris or Adam don’t win, it would be a good way for both of them to be there.
