I only caught the end of Kris’ interview (work got in the way) and I think he said he only gets about 10 min (about 3 songs). Did I hear it right?

I’m probably late, but a lot of people on the list are saying that Maroon 5 will be performing.

If Kris only gets three songs I wonder what the third song will be. We know he’ll do LLWD and The Truth, but this is the first time where I think he should do an original. To keep the energy up, my vote is for Can’t Stay Away.

We have Guitar Hero in my home. It’s not like playing guitar at all,lol! A popular song plays and the screen suggests which buttons to push that represent chords and rhythms. You get points for pressing the right buttons in the right rhythms. Non-musicians who can hear chords changes (most everyone) and a beat can play. It gives the impression that you are a part of the music, so it’s fun that way.

This was the radio station that had Kris on right after the Idol tour. I rememeber the very cute dance routine Kris did, but I was not sure it was his first step by himself after the tour. Kris just confirmed this in his interview. I can’t believe how far he has come since then. It seems like 10 years ago, but it was only many 10 months. This is “idol time”.

Darn, I just saw your post girlygirl. The GooGoo Dolls are scheduled to be on for an hour and a half, and with M5 also performing, it’s no wonder that Kris can only do three songs.

After they promoted Kris so much, I really didn’t expected him to play only 10 minutes. It is a good exposure regardless, but I really wish he played longer.

I hope that this will at least pay off in radio play.

That ranking is very misleading. Large market stations have been reducing the number of spins, many of the pop stations have either done the same or stopped playing it, and on HAC, it only has an AI of 4.8 million. Add to that that the bullet is about to disappear, and it’s a good guess that the song doesn’t have any momentum on radio. Most stations are only playing the song 2 to 3 times a day. PDs aren’t blind, they know whether or not people are connecting with a song.

But in order for TT to keep moving up the chart, it needs more big stations to add it. Because, as you say, the stations that have added it play it only a couple times a day — and these are mainly small station anyway. And the big market stations generally play it at non-peak times, like overnight. I was amazed when KBIG actually played it at 8 p.m. the other day! The AI is really really low (below 5.0) given the number of stations that added it. The song is going to drop down the charts in a big hurry without some sort of boost. They are (at least) 4 songs that will pass it this week, to begin with, at this rate.

girlygirl, I think the problem is that the song is not getting a positive reaction at the stations that do play it. That’s the only explanation I can come up with for why stations that added it months ago are still only playing it twice a day. New stations are not going ot come on board if they don’t see signs that people like the song, for example, the song selling more, PDs reporting that they are getting a lot of requests for TT, stations increasing the rotation, or buzz about the video or the song itself.

well IDK…people I follow on twitter are requesting it and there has been all sorts of buzz on twitter about the video. and it’s won a ton of those dumb song challenges that the stations run. So I don’t know what sort of negative response they could be getting.

It will be especially interesting to hear what Ross says. And I hope he enjoys some of the other bands to make it worth his time. Of course the other bands are good – but I think he’s probably there because of Kris and he wanted the band to play too.

Kinda late to this party, but it seems I did not miss much. Kris seems agitated or tired. This whole thing seems very disorganized.

This radio station has been very good to Kris. They hosted his first event post Idol tour. They have given him tons of promo, but, WTF! At one point it appeared on their website that Kris was to do a 40 min set (or at least 30 with set/change etc.) Then suddenly it is down to 3 songs & 10 minutes. I think it was the last minute add of Maroon5. It seems very clear Maroon5 was a last minute thing and they just took the time away from Kris. Boo! That would explain bringing out the whole band & then switching down to just Kris & Cale. A strange choice for the radio station to make. Still, I thank them for all the Kris promo & they really do play TT & LLWD in prime time.

I was wondering if the played Kris’ music. I also wonder who is footing the bill to bring the whole band for nada. That should at least be good for a few more spins of TT.

What a huge disappointment, especially for people who traveled just to see Kris and the band in concert. I also think it’s pretty crappy to pull that stunt of putting ??? next to Kris’ name in the lineup.

THey have been very supportive, but it still bugs me. All of that hype for 3 songs and not even the latest single. They also pretty much asked the same lame questions. What happened to all the great ones people submitted? They said most of the questions that came in were for Kris. Hope they make it up to him in a big way.

ETA I think it would be frustrating for Kris to constantly be asked questions about AI during interviews instead of focusing on his music and tour. He is trying to establish himself in the industry and separate himself from AI and the media keeps dragging him back. What is with that crowd?

I was there tonight!! Some thoughts:

-It was the first time I’ve ever seen Kris in concert, even though I looove him. I was wicked surprised and disappointed that he only played 3 songs… based on the schedule on the Mix website I thought he’d play for almost an hour! Kris was the main reason I attended the concert, but even though he played for just 10 minutes, I’m glad that I got to finally see him perform live. It was worth it! (Plus, Switchfoot and the Goo Goo Dolls were great, so it was a good night overall.)
-Kris sounded AMAZING. So good.
-The crowd wasn’t energized at all for Steven Page, Kris, or The Spill Canvas :/. Only a handful of people were standing for Kris. A group of teenage girls sitting in the first couple of rows did have several Kris posters and t-shirts though, so that made me happy
-A commentor above said that Kris signed autographs after his performance? SERIOUSLY? I CAN’T BELIEVE I MISSED THAT ((((

No problem! I’m pretty sure the crowd expected them to play separately. Maroon 5 got a really nice response… lots of screams and cheers. The radio hosts actually told the crowd to stand up for Maroon 5, and everyone stayed standing throughout their two song set. (Which made me sad that the hosts didn’t tell the crowd to stand up for Kris! )

Switchfoot and the Goo Goo Dolls got AMAZING responses; the place went bonkers for them. And both of those two bands said during their sets that this was one of their best stops on tour this year. (This also made me sad that Kris didn’t get to perform later in the show or sing more than THREE songs! Goo Goo Dolls sang like, 16 songs or so!)

@s0x_prisoner, glad you went to see Kris today. I know the feeling of being sad that Kris was not able to performed longer, but I think a little of publicity is okay than nothing at all. I hope that the radio station is grateful to Kris that they will spin his new CD TT. The song needs a lot of boost from the Radio Station to promote it and hopefully when the MV comes out, it will eventually get its recognition. Lets hope for the best.

It sounds like the main draws were the Goo Goo Dolls and Switchfoot, which is why they were given more time. Sometimes it’s hard to remember that not everyone is aware of who Kris is, beyond that he was on American Idol, and that he’s only released two songs, only one of which has gotten a lot of airplay.

Hi back hoosiermama!! Sorry your great question & all the others don’t seem to have been asked!! Perhaps they can be saved for another time ? MJ- maybe someday you can interview Kris like you did Taylor Hicks?

Well, guys, I had a pretty good time at the concert anyway. For various reasons. In fact some of you are kind of killing my buzz. I’ll be honest!

Yes, Kris only played three songs. But Steven Page also only played three songs. However, he signed autographs and took pictures for about a half an hour or more (Page) after his set. These radio gigs are mainly for publicity purposes, aren’t they? Kris didn’t play a lot, and of course, and I was bummed. People who went there just to see him were disappointed. But the station gave him tons of promo, and he did a signing that was mobbed. It was about three hours after his set, and all these people (mostly teens and twentysomethings) were still hanging out waiting for him.

Kris was charming and funny and made his usual array of faces for the camera. I was crushed in the mob about three feet away from him and took some pictures. I didn’t get to meet him this time. It was broken up before I could.

While he was out there signing, they were on the air, at one point, and Greg Daniels told the radio listeners there were thousands of people there screaming for Kris. He was kidding but there were a lot. Kris had been watching Switchfoot, sitting onstage, and when Switchfoot was done it became apparent Kris was going to be signing. People must have texted other people who were in their seats, because a fairly big crowd formed very fast. It was surprising.

A guy who was in change said Kris would sign but there would be no pictures. He said this with Kris standing there, and Kris then proceeded to pose for pictures with almost every person there.

I had a pretty good time, overall. I met Cale and talked to him for a few minutes, quite a long time, actually. It was kind of like I had known him my whole life. He’s very friendly and makes you feel very comfortable. I hadn’t met him before. In Worcester, the last time I saw Kris, Cale was the only one of the guys I didn’t meet.

Eventually, I had my picture taken with him. He had on some nice scent and he smelled good. Thought some of you might want to know that. lol.

Anyhow, I told him I was surprised the set was so short. He said they were, too. I told him I thought I had seen Ryland in the audience, earlier. He said, yes, R. was supposed to have played with them, but the time constraints made it impossible. I think he was probably disappointed but he didn’t act more than mildly disappointed. These guys basically have to take it in stride and I think they do.

He also told me that they’re supposed to play somewhere tomorrow. He wasn’t sure where, he thought it was near the venue we were at. He said Ryland would be playing with them then. That’s all he knew about it.

I talked to him about the time I saw them in Worcester, and he remembered the venue, and that BNL were there. He said they were awesome and they (KAB) love being on their tour.

Later on, I got to stand about twenty or thirty feet from Kris as he sat onstage watching Switchfoot’s set (as I mentioned before) from the shadows. That was kind of cool.

It was odd they didn’t play longer, since, if you’re from Boston, you know the station constantly advertised the concert as starring “Goo Goo Dolls, Kris Allen…” as if he were one of the headliners.

A woman I spoke to inadvertently may have shed some light on it. She told me she had seen Goo Goo Dolls a few night before, in Connecticut, with Switchfoot, and The Spill Canvas. So here they all were again. It seemed like Steven Page and Kris (they both played acoustic) were add-ons to this pre-existing tour lineup.

Anyhow, I wanted to hear Kris do more songs, and it was disappointing, but there were several plusses for me at the concert, as well. It was also really nice to be on the waterfront on a beautiful night. The actual experience was enjoyable, overall, for the proximity to Kris and Cale, rather than the amount of music.

By the way, Kris’s voice sounded fantastic, and his and Cale’s playing did, too. I think Kris sounds better than he did a year ago. He just sounds great.

It sounds like Kris and Cale did a fabulous job, Kris got to connect with fans and he got lots of publicity from the station. Sounds like much more of a Kris-love fest when you describe it than it seemed like when we were trying to figure it out. I envy your experience, but am so glad for you. And since I love Switchfoot, I would have loved to have enjoyed that “with” Kris, too.

Ha thanks for the recap Ross. That’s great you gave feedback to thet DJ- maybe next time they will give him longer & have the band as well- seeing they do promote him so much?
They must have to just “go with the flow ” sometimes & have a lot of patience. Things probably change at the last minute all the time . Not knowing where they were performing the next day[ & for how long] as Cale said must be frustrating.
Anyway all of this helps to give Kris exposure.

Of course, it sucks for people like sOx_prisoner who have never seen Kris live, to only have him do three songs. I’m not trying to whitewash it. I don’t get it. I took advantage of the special ten dollar ticket offer online. If I’d paid the full fifty bucks plus the extras, which came to sixty-two bucks, I think, I’d feel gipped. As it was, I still felt that way.

There were two girls there – the same two girls Kris asked backstage in Worcester last December, so he could sign their shirts. The mother of one of them told me they saved up by babysitting in order to go to this concert, and they paid full price. So, yeah, I think the radio station has some splainin’ to do. They gave Kris a lot of promo, though.

Anyhow. what happened later made up for it, for me. I mean, it was interesting in and of itself. I guess I managed to forget I had originally gone there to hear the music.

I think if Mixfest had made it clear upfront that he was only playing 3 songs, rather than advertising the show as if he was one of the headliners, no one could really complain. My d-i-l went to this concert to see the Goo Goo dolls. She texted me that Kris was singing. she doesn’t watch Idol but wanted to let me know that she was very impressed and enjoyed his set very much.

Well, thanks Ross. Good to hear Kris’s spirits were not as dampened as we all (were) thought. Hoosiermama, I guess we had it all wrong. Not sure what gave me that impression. Could have been how reluctant Kris seemed on that webcam. :!. Ross had it right, our disappointment made us look like downers. Tomorrow will be better. Ross – was it Cale or Kris who told you that they have a gig tonight (Tuesday). There’s nothing on the schedule for them on 8/3 —of course, with Kris and his propensity to play gigs we don’t know about until afterwards, that wouldn’t mean anything. It’s supposed to be in Boston?

Cale said it. Yes, Boston. I thought he said, “I think it’s right around here.” He didn’t say it was at night. He said, “tomorrow.” So who knows? The reason it came up is we were talking about Ryland not getting to play at Mixfest and he said Ryland would probably be playing today. Maybe it’s a private gig. Or maybe he was wrong!

thanks sox_prisoner and ross for the recaps. I’m glad Kris was able to meet with fans to compensate for the short set. I’m sure Kris enjoyed hanging with the other bands and that can only lead to good things down the road.

Sounds like he did his three sing along songs. Guess as an opener he opted to try to pump the crowd rather than promote his single.

ross you mentioned Ryland was there. What about Torres and Andrew?

ross–thanks for giving us the “big picture” from the concert. You are the voice of reason!! Even tho the set was short, it sounds like Kris made the most of his time there w/the meeting of fans. It’s good that he and Cale both have chill personalities to go with the flow when things change and aren’t what they were expecting. I wish I was more like that–lol!! Glad you had a good time.

The status of TT is still disconcerting…I hope it picks up some top40 adds today and more spins from those stations that have already added it.

I think he may have chosen not to sing it because it’s long. Cale said they were on a tight schedule. The way he said it I could tell he wasn’t exaggerating. Steven Page literally said, “I have ten minutes.”

But there could be other reasons.

I think he chose a set that gave him the most variety in a short time. They were really good choices. He encouraged audience participation on all three songs, and I think that was his point. AWM is usually an audience participation song. So is MITM (yet it shows off another side of his talent, his ability to be intimate and quiet). Then LLWD is a hit, it’s popular and also something the audience likes to sing along to. It’s a good closer.

So I think he was choosing a mini-set that represented him the best. You know? “If you see me in a full concert sometime, this is who I am.”

He went on really early and a lot of people hadn’t arrived yet (it was, what? 6:30 or something). It wasn’t the best time to go on, and he got no time, but he did the best he could with it.

LOL – that’s pretty funny. Perhaps the radio station is on a tight budget and was worried about paying the venue overtime? On a serious note, I assume the timing all has to do with the Maroon 5 addition. They simply didn’t plan a long enough event for the additional acts. But, those radio events are supposed to be all about variety anyway. We’ve seen many where some acts only got a few songs. Not that unusual.

First, hi to all of you fantastic Kris fans! I am finally de-lurking to join the fun. I’ve been following Kris at mj’s since last summer. Thanks to mj and girlygirl and mtlfan for all these great threads. I love checking in everyday to see the latest videos and pics. And to read all of your comments–because you’re all saying just what I’m thinking most of the time. I (like lots of other de-lurkers) feel like I know you all, even though I haven’t posted till today.

Ross, I’m glad you had enjoyed seeing Kris and Cale (even though the set was short…) It sounds like they took the changes in stride. It was also cool to hear you say that Kris sounds even better than the last time you saw him. I haven’t seen him live yet, but that’s what I think everytime I watch new videos–he just keeps getting better.

I will be seeing him live for the first time in Atlantic City this weekend–I’m so excited, I can’t believe it’s almost here!

There’re a lot of delurkers here recently, aren’t there? Well, to follow the trend – I’ve posted a couple of times but I’ve never said a proper hello. So, hello to everybody! I’m comparatively new Kris fan, learned about him this February and been following him closely since. These tour posts here on MJ’s blog are surprizingly addictive; when I need to unwind a little bit and get my everyday doze of Kris and KAB, I go here first. Thanks to everybody who brings all the interesting bits of information from all over the Internet to MJ! Often I can’t comtribute much because I have 8-13 hour time difference with most of you guys, but you’re doing a great job yourselves! Thanks again!

Thanks bac, FaithfulFan, and hoosiermama for the welcome! I’ll do my best to do a recap. I’m also gonna try to do some video and pics, although I’m new to this, so no promises…but I’ll do my best!

It does seem like there are quite a few going, so hopefully with everyone going, there will be lots of video and recaps.

This is my first general admission concert in a long time. (I have to confess that I actually got 2 sets of tickets–1 set in GA and one in the reserved riser seating–because my husband, who is going with me, doesn’t want to be standing in GA for an entire concert. However, I want to be in GA to try to be as close as possible. So we decided that we would start out in GA and if he gets tired of being there, he could move back to the riser seating–I have to say that my husband is being pretty great about this, considering he’s not a fan really–he likes Kris and KAB and thinks they are extremely talented, but doesn’t really want to listen to Kris’s music unless I’m already listening to it. I told him I predict he’ll be a fan after the Borgata concert!)

Anyway, for those going to the concert, any advice about when to get there for GA to start lining up?

I will be seeing him live for the first time in Atlantic City this weekend–I’m so excited, I can’t believe it’s almost here!

Oh everyone is so excited for the Borgata show! I am so depressed that I am not going. I couldn’t find anyone to go with and I would have had to stay overnight. AC is not somewhere I wanted to hang alone. ;( I have plans to go to an afternoon party on Borgata day but hope to be home in time for twitter insanity and mj’s. Looking forward to all the videos guys!!!! Sobbing uncontrollably now – so sad to miss it.

I am going to the M5 concert in Pgh. but am a techno-tard so I will only be able to tell you about Kris’s awesomeness!

So I was thinking the other day that two words that I associate with Kris are connections and compassion – I think he inspires those things. Many examples that you all as Kris’ fans know – but even for example in the sing alongs, it’s about connecting people. And my point is that these threads reflect that. I think that’s cool.

(And BTW I think it may seem odd that I was thinking about words I associate with Kris. To explain, in my job – which often involves writing – I sometimes have to think of words that reflect brand. I had a moment thinking work-like about Kris and thus my thoughts above.)

chris4kids – I love your reference to your husband. We’ve heard that same story before, haven’t we? Husbands who don’t want to be labeled fans but are willing to come to the concerts and be very supportive. Not-a-fan. Right. *wink* And you said it – he’ll probably be a fan by the end of the night. Please let us know how that goes.

But, those radio events are supposed to be all about variety anyway. We’ve seen many where some acts only got a few songs. Not that unusual.

What was unusual in this case is that every time they announced the concert on the radio (for weeks), it was The Goo Goo Dolls, with Kris usually mentioned the second most prominently. They played LLWD during the ad. This is why I went to the concert pretty confident I’d see a pretty long set, and the band onstage, probably.

I don’t like that Kris had to cut his set short so that Spill Canvas could play seven or eight songs. They weren’t advertised on the radio at all, or very little. And it’s not like they have a hit song on the radio, or whatever.

Yet Kris was more or less mobbed by people who waited three hours to meet him. (It wasn’t until about 10:00 that he came out to sign. He was done playing at @6:45.)

Makes no sense.

I’m not saying the majority of people who went to the show were there to see him. Not at all. But he obviously had fans there that were visible. And those were only the people (mostly kids) who line up to get autographs and pictures, or meet the artist. Most people don’t. So I have no idea how many fans, or just people who like him, he had there.

The thing is the radio station seemed to think it was good business to use him as a “name” to publicize their concert. I don’t actually think they cared how much he played in the concert. That bugs me a lot, but what can you do? It’s over.

They kind of did the same thing when he played their Colonnade Roof event last spring. Publicized it like crazy using his name, then he played only a few songs.

I ended up having a good time, anyway – but only because I wasn’t out 50 dollars plus additional charges. I only paid ten bucks.

So I’d say: be cautious of radio events, vs. actual concerts. You may get a surprise like the Kiss concert where he closed the show and played a long set (for that kind of event), or you may get something like this – another kind of surprise.

Kris has an opening act for Saturday’s show at The Borgata in Atlantic City. I like his sound and this is a good match. He will also be opening for Kris at the Social in Orlando 8/20.

And I too look forward to unwinding at night with these tour posts after my daughter goes to bed. And you’re right, they are addictive. I find myself checking in first thing in the morning for any news too!

Giavonna, hope you decide to go to the Borgata show! I don’t know what the situation is with tickets at the Borgata, but if you decide to go and can’t get tickets, let me know. I do have 2 sets of tickets (the backup set I have is in the reserved riser seating for in case my husband doesn’t want to spend the whole concert in GA)–however, I would certainly give a set up if you needed them. I wouldn’t want you to miss out on the concert (and I think my husband would agree with that).

Mtlfan – thank you so much. I thought if I just went it would be OK – I would find “the fans.” I already committed to a party I don’t want to go to – with my husband who is infinitely patient with my passion for KA. The Borgata is the concert I want to go to. So while I am sad I know the videos will be awesome. (Oh an on another sad note I went to the Bridgeport tour concert when Kris was sick – OMG it took me a year to get over that! He was so sick though. On a happy note I saw him at Huckabee and at Letterman, and at the GMA sound check – score! Yes – I am a fan!)

And I am going to the M5 concert with my sista and that will be fun – not as many songs as the Borgata…but good.

Have an epic time. Girlygirl is going, right? Ross and many others. Too cool! Love it! Cannot wait to see the videos and the comments! Sunday will be a good day indeed!

There are going to be a ton of Kris fans from all over the country coming to that AC concert. So even if you are going by yourself, there will be no problem finding another Kris fan to talk to, maybe even hang with.

For instance, I think most of the people I met at Kris’s gig in the Bahamas will be at this show, plus several more people I talk to on twitter but have never actually met.

JMatt17 (who I’ve yet to meet) and I made plans about driving down to AC after the Hershey show, and I think she’s supposed to meet up with Mtlfan at the Borgota, yes? So maybe I’ll finally meet Mtlfan (\o/)

I’ve been here reading on Kris’ news everyday and night though haven’t posted in a while but will join others in delurking to show my support and love for Kris! Agree with all what hoosiermama said above… I can’t help but am worried about him and his music future a little as he continues to be thrown under the bus (by some media) or ignored by his label/management despite being such an awesome musician, performer and such an amazing human being. Hopefully justice will be served someday and I can stop worrying about him… Glad to be here to see and read about all the awesome and supportive comments from his amazing fans here. Love you guys!

Yep I’D rather hear him sing 3 songs then never hear him live.Hopefully I can get my hubby to take me to one in September were going camping towards the end of the month so the one his doing on the 28 or 29 I wouldn’t be able to go to.But one of the other two I mentioned would work.The one with Keith Urban is closer but alot more expensive.And the one at the college is almost two hrs farther then the other one, but less expensive.But I figure with gas prices they’d be about the same.

I was hoping to go to the Allentown Fair concert (I live near there and have gone to concerts at the fair in past years), but the Keith Urban tickets were on sale for a long time before they announce Kris opening, so by then there were very few tickets available (only very, very far back) directly from the fair or ticketmaster (and even those are expensive tickets). Trying on stubhub or one of the other resellers to get closer tickets, the prices are hard to justify, even for Kris! So I’m going to keep checking as the fair date gets closer-sometimes better tickets become available thru the fair directly and at least aren’t marked up in price.

Your husband sounds a little like mine, in that he likes Kris but doesn’t “love” him like I do. I bet you can convince him to go, and as I’m predicting for my husband at the Borgata concert-I think he’ll leave there a real fan!

If I come across any reasonable price tickets for Allentown Fair I’ll let you know right away.

Whilst reading “snarky” comments on the more general threads can be fun I must say I agree that these Kris threads are really enjoyable these days. I would like to thank once again MJ for allowing these threads & to girlygirl & Mtfan for making them happen & also for stopping any nastiness before it takes hold.
