Kris is a very clever artist. I think he switched it to the sitting performance because of the type of performers they had on the line-up. I can’t imagine how awkward it will seem to come out and bop all over the stage after a Josh Radin performance and be followed by a Colbie one. They are all kind of mellow artists. So the sitting was kind of awesome and made the performance a bit mellow to suit the concert.
He’s a genuis!

As I was playing that mashup vid, my husband asked was I sick of that Heartless song yet. LOL I believe he is at this point since there’re so many versions already. Oh well so I told him there was a meshup in this one and Kris just sang this last night. Felt guilty a little as I’ve been watching Kris like a hawk since the finale. I loved Chicago, but I gotta say I missed seeing Kris own the stage like he did in Sacramento! I love his energy when he’s free from the stool and guitar (well, sometimes).

I’ve heard this said a number of times & it makes me smile !! I’ve never heard before a song being more appropriate for summer – does that happen in the US much- that songs come out in summer because of the style of song??
You could also say that AWM would be good for winter as it would cheer you up from the dowdy weather!!
To me this song is appropriate any time of the year as its a real crowd pleaser!!

I don’t know if this is related to the two concerts Kris has done this week or not, but he’s sold some downloads of LLWD & the album today. LLWD up to #36 on the overall live feed now (up from #44 this morning) and the album has gone from #22 pop to #19 pop in the last 8 hours. I did not check the overall album chart this morning so I’m not sure what the movement has been there – but he is in the 140-150 range I believe. The good news is he’s getting positive movement.

I don’t know if this is related to the two concerts Kris has done this week or not, but he’s sold some downloads of LLWD & the album today. LLWD up to #36 on the overall live feed now (up from #44 this morning) and the album has gone from #22 pop to #19 pop in the last 8 hours. I did not check the overall album chart this morning so I’m not sure what the movement has been there ‘“ but he is in the 140-150 range I believe. The good news is he’s getting positive movement.

Wow, Eileen, it has moved! I just checked this an hour or so ago, and here’s what I found:
Album: 140 (overall) 19 (pop)
Single: 38 (overall) 23 (pop)

[For whatever it's worth, Adam's album was 72 (overall) and 12 (pop) and his singles were 118, 161 (overall) and 49, 56 (pop).]

Also, as big as the Fray is right now, (overall) their album is at 187 and their singles are at 168, 304 and 396. Colbie’s albums are at 262, 411 and 932. Her singles are at 74, 169, 262, 462 and 768. I was just curious!

Okay, here are two summer songs imo and tbh I don’t what season they were released.

“I’m Yours”, Jason Mraz and “I’ve Gotta Feelin’”, B.E.P. They’re just upbeat, fun and free spirited songs, and to me summer is just a more free spirited time of year.

well iTunes is still a very small percentage of the overall market. And some musicians are more successful as touring artists and/or on the radio than they are at actually selling large amounts of singles or albums — I think Kris may end up being one of those

Kris, Kris, Kris….he is definitely becoming Alright With Me! Surprising, since I didn’t feel one way or the other about him during his time on idol (Only had eyes for Adam, lol. Still do, but not so pleased about some things. Hopefully, I’ll get over that eventually).

The other day in another thread I posted that I don’t make proclamations. Well, I’m going to amend that and say I’m cautious about the proclamations I make.

Kris Allen can not be held back! I don’t care what any magazine says. If anyone doubts this go back and watch S8 of idol. I have had the hardest time with the premise of EW’s review of his album, saying he didn’t find a niche/genre, whatever. Then they turned around and gave Adam’s album a B+. Well I haven’t listened to all of FYE, but isn’t there quite a variety of songs on there written by a variety of artists? Well, I guess this is old news, but a question that has bugged me. So to those who have listened to FYE the album, is it cohesive in its genre? Just wondering. End of kinda rant. :-O

What didn’t they write about Kris during the competition and tour? I think it’s just their opinion and people are not going to buy albums depending on reviews. They will buy what they like to listen to.

I’m starting to feel that more than ever. And this is JMO, but if the madly talented (meaning huge vocal range) AL had not been in the picture, I don’t think they would have had such negativity towards Kris’s album. Sadly, it seems that no one can stop comparing the idol and the runner up. Frankly, I would take Kris’s lower range over Adam’s wail…I mean high range any day. I listened to a couple of songs on FYE, and I just don’t care to hear more. I’m not being mean spirited or anything…just honest. Not my cup a tea. I think Kradison will be sucessful, and I think Kris is in it for the “win.”

Well, there’s nothing much we can do about this. A lot of media is still lazy and just buys into the Adam hype, while dismissing Kris as a bland/boring/etc. Many articles seem to skim over the fact that Adam is not having any song on the charts now (AMA’s tag as off-the chart!performers! this year!) and just focus on album sales with Kris proclaimed worst Idol debut sales ever. As long as Kris can prove his worth through music (LLWD is doing nicely and I think it can help the album to continue selling). FWIW it’s worth, EW did a spread on the Power Rankings just before AI finals started and there were 10 contestants including Danny, Adam, Alexis , Lil as the top picks. Kris wasn’t even in that list. And someone managed to dig up the betting odds (from some online sites that offer such things), and Kris odds were 1:30. Which is the second lowest odds, and the same odd with Jorge.

My point being that Kris has managed to surprised a lot of people, and I think he will continue to do so. He’s always been low-key, and I think it’ll be a gradual process of him winning people over. So basically I just want Kris to continue to do well, regardless if he becomes the next “international!superstah!/pop god!”. As long as Kris is happy and successful (on his terms), that’s fine with me.

I am a long-time subscriber to EW and they really irritate me with their Kris remarks. But, wow, the joy on Kris’ face when he is performing. He is truly living his dream. I am fully convinced that Kris and his band will have a successful tour. BHB (Band of Hot Boys), love it! Can’t hurt to have such a group of cuties along with great music. So I say to Hell with EW.

(Of course I’m always pimping – “You have to hear the whole album”). This is a new year for Kris. He is winning over music lovers (who have never tuned into idol) everyday!!! I’m super psyched for him. Obviously, “The Fray” was the big headline lastnight, but I’m telling you there was soooo much love for our Mr. Allen.

I’d ‘crack’ed up when I’d first read about C.R.A.C.K. (after the Tailgate performance, I think) but yeah, I don’t think Kris would go for it.

I love the contrast between Chris & Andrew. Chris seems like a easy going guy, with his long shaggy hair and his crazy curvy stance. He smiles easily. While Andrew looks like a hot uptight preppy with perfect hair. He hardly ever smiles and mostly plays his guitar standing up straight. (though he has loosened up a wee bit now.)
And then there’s Kris, just bouncing around these two guys, just being his adorable self. (I love all the air-guitar jamming Kris does with Andrew!)

Let’s keep voting for Kris on the VH1 top 20 countdown, since it seems to impact sales for LLWD! Yeah!

Last year, everyone was saying David Cook was a flash in the pan, and no one would know his name in five years. David hit the road, working hard and steady, and 12 months later, it’s still early in his career, but I’ll bet fewer people are saying that. I see the same trajectory for Kris. He may not be setting the whole world on glitter-spangled fire, but that doesn’t mean he won’t be successful.

As for his album not having a niche, all I can say is I assume those people didn’t listen to the same album I’ve been listening to for the past several weeks. I feel quite confident that I know who Kris Allen is. And he is not, by any stretch of the imagination, boring.

Re: Adam’s album. Yeah, it’s pretty eclectic. But I’m pretty sure that eclectic is his niche. In any case, I like it. Especially “Soaked.”

I’m so excited for these videos. I’m saving them til I get home so I can enjoy them in peace… about 45 more minutes. And just thing… more to look forward to the rest of this month . It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Thank you for this. Kris is just so low key with his hooded sweatshirt and all, but this guy just breathes STAR to me. I don’t know what it is about him. I hope people will give him a chance and listen to the whole album before dismissing him so easily as ” the guy who came from Idol and who won over the other one”.

I was there last nite and I 100% agree. It was PERFECT. I was so excited when I saw the 4 stools set up and drums to the side. I was worried about him dancing around. He is a Genius and I twittered that to him at 1am when I got home from the show. I felt kinda weird doing that, but I’m sure he appreciates getting positive feedback about those kinds of things.

Also, I was praying for an acoustic Man in the Mirror. I received. He open with the Heartless mashup. Perfect for the venue – really shows his vocals. Gorgeous. Gorgeous.

I know his gig in Worcester on Monday is an acoustic set…not sure about tomorrow in Buffalo, though…

I’m not so worried about Kris’s album sales, thanks to a little education from my friend, Chris Sligh. He says artists make their money with touring, (tickets and merchandise). I think folks are going to come out and see him, and his sales will grow as more people outside of the AI bubble discover him.

oh ad I vote for “Bunch of Hot Dorks” as the name of the band. NOT Kris Allen and a Bunch of Hot Dorks, but just “Bunch of Hot Dorks” — because, honestly, Kris is probably the biggest dork of all of them, and he’s also the hottest…

Girlygirl–not as cold here as in some places for sure, but it was 22 this morning with a hard freeze, think it got to 47 today, and back down to 29 tonight. We don’t get as much snow…in fact, here in central AR where Kris is from, we tend to get more ice, which can be trickier than a snowfall.

Slow and steady was always his winning strategy.

Ahhh… as much as I’m happy to have some video, I so wish the sound was better – especially for CSA and LLWD. Those seemed to be picking up one of the guitars better than the others (or something like that), because it almost sounded like Kris was singing a different song (or in a different key) than the instrumentation. That said, I thought the harmonies sounded great and I was laughing at Kris’s stool dancing… really, I think he was close to popping off or tipping over at some points. Monday’s show is acoustic, right? I hope the whole band will be there for that one too and MJ is able to get some great video like from the idol tour.

cookcricket, I didn’t think you were belittling AL at all. I remember David Cook referred to his album as an eclectic album, and that’s how I think of Kris’s. I can’t speak for AL’s since I haven’t listened to it, but I remember his fans saying there was “something for everyone,” so I think of his as being rather eclectic also. It’s not wrong for Kris’s fans to want honest reviews for his album. I guess it’s just something we’re not gonna get! But his fans “get” it.

I’m am such a fan of “Man in the Mirror”. As I mentioned before, I actually prayed for him to play it. I almost fell over when he did. I love his entire album, but his vocals on this song melt me. Four guitars sounded amazing. I think it was brilliant to open with the Heartless mash-up. The majority of the crowd was there to see the Fray (and probably not-idol watchers). He immediately drew them in with that song. Everyone was hooked from the start. I was absolutely in heaven with the stool set-up. I think he is adorable dancing around, but this blew me away. It just worked so perfect with the entire show. He so smart with reading the crowd and setting the tone for his set. “The Fray”, on the other was a way more hyper set than I ever expected. Interesting. (Awesome too)

I have got to see that Heartless/Gangsta mashup in person. I hope he does that on tour and I hope his tour comes my way. I think AWM is a winner for sure. I don’t know when “Im Yours” was released, but it stayed on the charts for 72 weeks and broke records, so it was charting for a year and a half, no matter the season.

I’m loving the BHB. I heard some interview with Kris a couple of weeks ago or so where he said the first two people that auditioned for the band were Ryland and Chris. He said they were both so good, and were such good people he didn’t want to audition anyone else for drummer and bass. We know about Cale, so Andrew is the only mystery to me.
The are about the best looking band I’ve seen in a long time – that will not hurt them at all.

LLWD always does well on the weekends for some reason. I’ve not been able to figure it out, but I swear it has to do with syndicated weekend radio and the VH1 video countdown. Those shows catch people that aren’t hearing LLWD on the radio because it hasn’t been added in their area. This week, Chicago can be added to the reasons.

Ok 19/Jive or whoever, at least have the cd for sale at these events and get the guy some merchandise, ok. Not asking for a trailer full, just something.

jammbasich and anybody else who were there, did The Fray sang Heartless too last night? Just curious as there was a little confusion here last night because of a tweet.

Also, did they really not have Kris CD for sale there? That would be a big shame for sure if that’s true!!!

I thought Kris and company did a great job. All songs sounded great, and it was definitely a smart decision to open with “Heartless/Gangsta’s Paradise” mash-up. If you were asleep after Joshua Radin’s set (he’s pretty mellow, but an awesome musician and singer), you definitely perked up with Heartless. Kris’s voice sounds so strong and clear and I love how he tweaks phrasing everytime; it’s cool because not every performance is exactly the same.

The harmonizing in “Alright With Me” by the band was adorable. I didn’t like Andrew at first because he seemed too stoic, but this laid-back set up definitely made me see him in a new light. The best part for me was the intro, with Kris clapping high up over his head – so cute! It’s hard not to get into this song because it’s so fun and boppy!

I was surprised they didn’t have even Kris’s CDs at the venue. You would think someone would be carrying a couple of copies. But then again, whatever sales Kris garners from these Jingle Balls, we’ll at least know it was because people actively went to their local stores and bought Kris’s CD.

I hope they get their act together before Kris starts touring. I think his management, while they’ve made some good decisions with these Jingle Ball events, still has some work to do. The official website is still a mess. It’s rarely ever updated. They need to get merch set up before February or I’m gonna lose my shit.

I’m betting the Fray didn’t do Heartless. Why do that song when Kris’s was better than the Fray’s version, better than Kanye’s version, Dawg. Lol

It looks like once again, Kris seems like he is starting from scratch. I’m trying to remember if DC had merch at the 1 or 2 Jingle Balls he did last year. I went to one of them and since I already had the CD I didn’t pay much attention. Once he started touring in Feb. though I know they had merch, but not sure about CDs. Did they have CDs for CC and the Fray, I’m not sure this is how major labels work, could be wrong though.

If it could come anywhere close to TOML, we would all be thrilled. They still play TOML on my local HAC station at least once a day and it’s sales were outstanding.

I don’t think that DC had cds for sale at any of his tour dates. Which was kind of surprising to me.

All you need to do is sign up and follow the projects calendar. I’ve street teamed for a couple of bands before, and all it really is is getting the word out about the music. It could be as simple as telling people the album has been releasd, putting up a banner advertising Kris’s CD on your website if you have one, or selling the CD yourself without profit (I’ve done this before for the really underrated bands who need the promo).

I think it’s funny, though, because Kris is the American Idol – he shouldn’t need a street team. But as I’ve always said, he is treated like an indie artist, almost, where he needs to earn his cred in these live shows instead of really having a platform for exposure. But then again, it may be the way Kris wants to go. He’s always said he’s not big on splashy magazine covers or showing up at red carpet events, etc so he probably would prefer exposure this way, through shows and gigs.

Diane: I agree with you. “Alright With Me” is better for a summer release. I think “Can’t Stay Away” has a very good chance. It’s the only song besides LLWD that Kris and the band have played at every event, right?

You know, I wouldn’t stop visiting just because it’s poorly managed. The fans pretty much keep the site alive. We’ve been posting the updates ourselves and keeping it afloat, and I would hate for everyone to be discouraged and just stop posting altogether. Also, keep in mind that Kris does monitor the website from time to time, and it would be disappointing if he went over there and it hardly ever gets updated. For the most part the forums are pretty updated. Whatever updates we get via MJ’s or Twitter, someone is usually quick to update it over at KA Official. We just have to be diligent. The more interest and traffic the site gets, the more moderators will be pressured to update it.

FWIW, the best advertising in the world is Word of Mouth. Committed acolytes preaching to their friends is the best way to win converts. So street teams make a lot of sense. And I agree with you, low-key advertising fits in perfectly with everything else we love about Mr. A.

Except, of course, for the fact that he sure knows how to light up a stage. There’s nothin’ low-key and everything wonderful about that.

ETA: jammbasich, just tonight, I was really listening to the lyrics of “Let It Rain,” and couldn’t help wondering if it was a note to the world. Kind of like Adam’s “Whattaya Want From Me.” These kids were (and some still are) under enormous pressure. It taps at my heart to hear comments like these and remember that they’re still human despite their supernatural talent.

You’re right Starr. That’s why I said it’s not wise for me to stop visiting there. I’ll be there again when I’m prepared to get disappointed.

What’s important to remember is that we so rarely have a chance to watch someone that we’ve “discovered” build a career. Chris Sligh got it right in his “letter” ‘“ AI is the intro, now it’s up to the artist to build the career. Kris Allen has got it absolutely right ‘“ and for this rare moment, we’re along for this process, which is a privilege! He’s got (and put) it all together; the music. He’s got the foundation in place ‘“ now we get to see the “Kris Allen-ized” music come through, which is obviously making an impression on audiences (Disneyworld, these Jingle Balls, etc. ‘“ each is so different). It’s a joy to watch this happen ‘“ he’s an incredible talent.

I run a much bigger website at work and it’s only part of my job. It’s not that hard. I’ve thought about emailing them and asking if they need help. I visit there pretty often because I it’s supporting Kris – it is his official website, but it’s not current.

If it’s sometime in February or so that the next single comes out, (which it could be since LLWD is still moving up and hasn’t peaked yet), AWM as the next single could be very timely for a summer hit, imo.

I need some help. At the top of this thread it says “tons of tweets from fans”. When I click on “here”, twitter says “that page does not exist”. What am I doing wrong?

I think for the most part Kris HAS been getting his music out through word of mouth and these gigs, and I think that says a lot about what kind of artist he is. I love hearing about bands from friends, and when people put effort into spreading someone’s music, it says a lot about the impact the artist has on the fans.

I think that December will be a good month for Kris because it is just jam-packed full of promo. When January starts, I’m sure he’ll be doing some more, but that also might be the perfect time to release another single before he hits the road for the album tour in February. I think “Can’t Stay Away” would be a perfect choice, because if he is invited back to sing on Idol during this upcoming season, that song is just a big crowd-pleaser and showcases an edgier side to Kris that the judges have told him he lacks.

As I mentioned in the other thread, we may be able to gauge what the most popular tracks are based on the iTunes popularity bars for each track. “Can’t Stay Away” is the most popular after “Live Like We’re Dying”, followed by “The Truth” and “Bring It Back”. The chances of “The Truth” being released as a single, I think, is good, but not compared to “Alright With Me”, which definitely has momentum and could keep Kris on radio all throughout the summer. If CSA is released in January and stays on radio for a few months, then they release AWM sometime May or June, that would be perfect for Kris and would keep him on everybody’s radar. However, I think a slow song might be in the wings as well for a third single, so you never know.

This is going to sound kind of dumb after I’ve spent so much time on this site, but what does “released as a single” really mean? Can’t radio stations play any song from any musician’s album? Or is it a matter of promotion? thanks!

cookcricket – Yeah you’re right about AWM. I suppose it takes awhile to catch on. It would be primed for summer play. I forgot that with LLWD z100, NY debuted it and it wasn’t added to station playlists for something like 3 weeks after. I tried the day it debuted in NY to get it on Chicago radio stations. I was explaining the debut to the DJ and he asked me if I was a “rep” for Kris Allen. It was hilarious. I just wanted to hear it on the radio soooo bad. I have requested it once a day everyday on 3 different Chicago stations ever since. It is played regularly now. Yeah.

Thanks Starr. So if I got my facebook page going I could be a part of it and simply post something there? I’m into indie bands. I’ve never been a part of a street team though. My hubby’s actually in one (two members) and they’re awesome. (No bias here, lol). They’re first CD actually became available the day before Kris’s.

I haven’t done much with my facebook, but already have friends requests that I know are into indie bands, so I think I’ll get this going over Christmas break.

if they want to drum up some excitement to prolong the longevity of the album, AWM would do the trick. BWCU would just go the way of cook’s come back to me, and i’m skeptical about the traction of CSA on either chart.

That’s exactly what I was originally thinking for single releases. LLWD came out in Oct. right? and it is on 4 or 5 times on Chicago radio per a 24 hour period. So it took like 2 months or so to catch on. I think he should wait until maybe April to release AWM. What do I know? It just seems reasonable to me.

I respectfully disagree. For one thing, I never liked Come Back To Me, but I LOVE Before We Come Undone!!! The chorus on BWCU is amazing.

I like Starr’s suggestion: release a 2nd single (CSA or BWCU) in January, and release a 3rd (AWM) in May. Let’s hear it for positivity!!

Thanks for posting the pix. I looked him up on twitter this morning to see if he mentioned anything about Kris. Nothing about Kris boo. but did tweet about Chicago. Anyway, he sang his own solo last night which I thought was amazing. I think Kris mentioning Joe King’s name will be a very good thing for AWM – which he has been doing. He did last night.

Joe King is the guitarist who also does vocals. The lead singer is Isaac Slade and yes he has a shaved head.

I had a discussion with some other fans about the BWCU/ CSA single choice. It’s my theory that BWCU appeals a bit more to the female demographic, and CSA to the younger male demo. I could be smoking something, admittedly, but I wonder if there’s any evidence to back that up. If so, I’d vote for the younger male demo, because I think that’s a group that Kris appeals to and I’d like to see it strengthened. I’m totally on board for AWM for a 3rd single (in the summer )

This is going to sound kind of dumb after I’ve spent so much time on this site, but what does ‘released as a single’  really mean? Can’t radio stations play any song from any musician’s album? Or is it a matter of promotion? thanks!

Just going off of what I personally know, singles are the ones that the artist chooses to promote from the album. Pretend that you don’t know who Kris is and you don’t know he has an album out. What song does the artist want you to hear that is representative of the record?

Yes, radio stations can play whatever they want, but for instance, “Live Like We’re Dying” was chosen as the debut single and radio continues to play it because it’s the current single. They also play “Heartless”, but that’s not considered a single. Singles also tend to get music videos, if I’m not mistaken. Hope that helps, and feel free to correct my makeshift definition to those who are more knowledgeable in the music biz

cookcricket ‘“ Yeah you’re right about AWM. I suppose it takes awhile to catch on. It would be primed for summer play. I forgot that with LLWD z100, NY debuted it and it wasn’t added to station playlists for something like 3 weeks after. I tried the day it debuted in NY to get it on Chicago radio stations. I was explaining the debut to the DJ and he asked me if I was a ‘rep’  for Kris Allen. It was hilarious. I just wanted to hear it on the radio soooo bad. I have requested it once a day everyday on 3 different Chicago stations ever since. It is played regularly now. Yeah.

Thanks Starr. So if I got my facebook page going I could be a part of it and simply post something there? I’m into indie bands. I’ve never been a part of a street team though. My hubby’s actually in one (two members) and they’re awesome. (No bias here, lol). They’re first CD actually became available the day before Kris’s.

I haven’t done much with my facebook, but already have friends requests that I know are into indie bands, so I think I’ll get this going over Christmas break.

Awesome! Yeah it makes things incredibly easy because Facebook is used to sign in and that way you won’t have to worry about usernames and all that stuff. The key is not to overdo these things, because I know when the show was going on I used to blab about Kris all the time, and people got sick of it hahahaha So now I just post the occasional Kris video here and there, while at the same time lumping his stuff in with other videos.

I was surprised they didn’t have even Kris’s CDs at the venue. You would think someone would be carrying a couple of copies. But then again, whatever sales Kris garners from these Jingle Balls, we’ll at least know it was because people actively went to their local stores and bought Kris’s CD

Actually I don’t mind that people outside Idol bubble buy Kris’ CD on impulse. If it is fresh in their minds and ears how great Kris Allen sounds, most likely that they will buy the CD. I don’t trust that after the emotional high, they will actively go to computer / drive to a certain store and look for a CD. These people just need to be exposed to Kris songs first. Believe me, so many times I bought things at concert because of emotion, and then thought, why ? I don’t mean that these people will regret buying Kris CD, but frankly they need a little bit of push.

I watch FNL and I saw that video earlier. It’s heartbreaking! I love Matt, the guy in the video, his acting in the last episode (from which are the most scenes in the video) was amazing and that combined with Kris’s raspy vocals in INTK is a great pairing for me.

I had a discussion with some other fans about the BWCU/ CSA single choice. It’s my theory that BWCU appeals a bit more to the female demographic, and CSA to the younger male demo. I could be smoking something, admittedly, but I wonder if there’s any evidence to back that up. If so, I’d vote for the younger male demo, because I think that’s a group that Kris appeals to and I’d like to see it strengthened. I’m totally on board for AWM for a 3rd single (in the summer )

Interesting! I actually think it’s the other way around! “Can’t Stay Away” lyric-wise pretty much serves to swoon the female fanbase. I mean, can you really see a guy rockin’ out to “I see you girl walking over here, can’t look away”? Hahahaha The funkiness of the song will appeal to both sexes, however I feel like when played live Kris channels this whole sexy Pocket Idol persona and the women drop like flies. It’s tough because Kris is hot, and a lot of guys find that threatening! If you’re a straight guy and you like someone who’s good-looking like Kris, you either try to hide that you like him or you act like he’s butt ugly so you don’t have to justify why you like someone who’s a hottie

I think “Before We Come Undone” is angsty, and it definitely appeals to the guys lyric-wise, because it’s something relatable but at the same time, it’s not like the lyrics scream “Oh baby oh baby I want you, I need you”. Mid-tempo is also non-threatening to either sex, I think. Girls like the idealism in the lyrics, and the guys like that it’s not mushy.

Talking of people outside idol bubble buying CD’s on impulse. I hope this is not creepy but once a while I check Kris’ @replies to see how many non-fans are responding by tweets to his performances. I usually find tweets that are interesting and believe strongly that Kris’ career will shoot when he goes on full tour, NGL.

I am guilty of not liking ‘Let It Rain’ . I dunno, for me it is the most polished song of the album, and I don’t really like that sound on Kris. It’s still a good song, and the hook is catchy as hell, and would make an excellent boot song.

I love Let It Rain and am hoping for it to be the boot song.

I have a question though. Usually, the last year winner of AI always perform a song in the final result show of AI (Wednesday). So, I assume that Kris should appear in that final. Maybe because of this, the boot song will not be a Kris song. I don’t think that TPTB of AI will have Kris two days in a row. I don’t believe they like him that much.
Is that why usually it takes several years for the boot song to be sung by an AI winner ? Has it ever happened before that an AI winner appear 2 days in a row (Tuesday & Wednesday show). I don’t remember.
If you ask me I rather have Kris sings the boot song, since that will help with the CD sales.

I think the lyrics are OK, but they are nothing special, IMO. I think that is why “Lifetime” and “Let It Rain” are my least favorites. I feel like the lyrics are too simple, and sometimes come off as cliche. I’m not a fan of “it takes a lifetime to learn how to sing” line, but the verses are fine. I think that out of all the songs “Red Guitar” has the best lyrics. I love the use of the metaphor and my favorite line: “it may not have all the strings, but she strums it beautifully.” For me, I like when people get creative with their lyrics. I like the vivid imagery offered by a song like “The Truth”, where you can literally see the music video in your head as the song is playing. I love the earnestness of “Before We Come Undone”, and the sassiness of “Written All Over My Face”. “Is It Over” is also a well-written song: “So take your time as you’re headed for the door, ’cause I might find the right words to say.”

At the same time, other songs aren’t so much lyric-driven, but the melody is amazing. “Bring It Back” is one of those songs, where you’re just kinda listening to Kris’s voice dripping with yearning and that’s the gist of the entire song, not the lyrics. “Alright With Me” doesn’t really have the most creative lyrics either, but paired with the jangly guitar and the horns, it’s such a fun song and the energy in it is infectious that it’s hard not to get up and dance.

Yeah, it has been fun lovin on Kris in this Kris-only thread!! I love the threads devoted solely to him!

Had to catch up… just finished reading the thread!
Loved all the videos from yesterday. There is a partial but with very good sound of MITM.. it makes me swoon each time; his version and voice are so good on it.

I was at the show, I’m from Chicago. It was freakin’ BRILLIANT. Anyway, all the people around me were non-idol watchers and were blown away with Kris’ set. We had a lot of time to talk between sets and many said they would go buy his album. (Of course I’m always pimping ‘“ ‘You have to hear the whole album’ ). This is a new year for Kris. He is winning over music lovers (who have never tuned into idol) everyday!!!

Band name – Kris Allen & his band (of Hot Boys). Band of Hot Dorks is adorable too, tho Cale & Andrew don’t seem that dorky to me (yet).

Regarding the next single my main contenders are CSA, BWCU, AWM –
“Can’t Stay Away”, this song appeals to all, Kris stans and other stans alike. It appeals to all age group. It’s young, sexy, edgy, it works for gals, gays, straight ppl, everyone! Also, this song and Kris’ performance of it is the complete opposite of what most people expect of him, “the mellow, married, boy next door” (Blah!)

“Alright With Me” is a crowd pleaser, it’s very light and sweet, it has a very “Soak up the Sun”(Crow) sorta easy breezy vibe. Perfect summer single!

“Before We Come Undone”, I love BWCU, lyrics are amazing, the hook get jammed into your brain (“Make it Before, Make it before!”) but I feel this song has a more AC/HAC feel.

My vote: “Can’t Stay Away” – It’s catchy & sexy and love how Kris performs it, without his guitar, he just gets into it with his whole body! Mucho Sexy! (The howl – AaaaoooO! *faints*)

Oh, thank you for that, Diane! I’ve seen FNL a few times but it conflicts with my life and other shows when I watch TV. It’s actually a pretty good show and critically acclaimed.

Kris’ songs are perfect for TV and movie soundtracks. Oddly, watching that video, my mind went to it being perfect for Glee with the baby/breakup storylines. Only problem is I’d want Kris to sing it and not the Glee cast.

Despite the fact that I love mellow, sincere, heartbreaking Kris with performances like Falling Slowly and from his album Bring it Back, INTK (of course I don’t suggest INTK as a single but BIB maybe sometime in the future) etc. and as I have already said in another thread I think it’s really important for non-Idol fans to see how he emotionally really connects with songs like these (along with his more up beat side as is shown in LLWD), I agree with what you say about CSA. My only concern about this song is that I have heard so many people(and reviews) saying that it sounds like Maroon 5 that I fear that some people may dismiss it by calling it a Maroon 5 copycat. On the other hand others think that’s a positive thing so I don’t know. I just don’t want him to get knocked down again (as he was with all the cover-gate) by calling him unoriginal or imitator. If I put that aside then I agree that he rocks it live and it definitely shows an edgier, sexier side of him.

starr, i got to say Let It Rain is my second favourite off the album cos of the meaning behind the song. ya sure the lyrics are a bit cliche but the song is so full of feeling and the song is so ambitious that it is almost palpable. especially when the lyrics go “so many voices trying to reach me, to tell me that this is not the way, to tell me that this is my mistake”, i always think of those days when kris was treated as cannon fodder during the show and the shitty media frenzy he had to put up with, and how he is still so darn determined to make good music. i love that quiet determination of his and thats what i feel when i listen to the song. oh well, enough of me ranting on and on about it.

but i totally agree with you on what the second single shud be. AWM is my first pick but if not, then its BWCU and CSA

Let it Rain is my second favorite behind AWM. I play those two over and over. This is gonna sound really silly but I see Kris behind the piano, the band around him on the AI stage, rain video in the background (cause you know that’s what they do) and the song builds and builds. Everyone that watches AI year after year would know exactly what those words meant to him and cliche or not,it would be one of those moments. Personally, I would be watching with my tissue box in hand.

hey junior! i love lifetime too and the lyrics is amazing. in fact they are similar to some of switchfoot’s new songs. especially this one called “your love is a song”, which is really beautiful. the lyrics goes as “your love is a symphony, all around me, running through me, your love is a melody, underneath me, running through me”. except Lifetime talks about life and Your Love Is A Song talks about love.

This is exactly how I feel about “Let it Rain”. Everytime I hear it I just think about the journey this year for Kris. He’s never talked about all negative crap that went on. (UGLY) But I feel it all just pours out in this song. It’s his way of finally addressing the naysayers. To others it may sound like cheesy lyrics, but to me it just reminds of all the things I love about Kris. He will come through this on top. I have faith.

I love how people can’t decide on the next single, so much to choose from. The reports from people at the Chicago concert were so much fun. Kris made some smart choices in his band mates, they just seem to meld. This week is a real bonanza for Kris fans, 3 Christmas balls and SYTYCD!

Yeah I did not listen to Lifetime for a long time because almost everybody here put it on the bottom of the list, but I was really surprised how much I like it now. And yes, there are too many word “Lifetime” in that song.

I can not remember when I love so many songs in it. And the ones that I don’t love, I still like.
You know how usually in a set list of a concert the audience just like several songs, well Kris can just sing the whole CD plus several from the Idol run and he is set to go.

I love “Let It Rain”!! and the lyrics that u highlighted Sarah P, I love the way Kris sang that part. I know the lyrics are a bit cheesy, a bit too simple but I can feel his struggle, I feel his pain, and I feel his quite confidence, “I know that this is not the way, That you imagined it would be. Oh but nothing you say is gonna stop me, No matter the weather that you bring.”…. It kills me everytime. I feel so proud of him.

ITA about “Send Me All Your Angels” – I flove that song. I also was wondering why there isn’t more talk about it. I kept thinking, why is it a bonus track?. But rethinking it, the song sounds a lot like Daughtry, maybe too much. I do think that it is a great radio-friendly song though.

I think I’m one of the few who has always liked Lifetime even from the snippets.

Its not literally about singing. The entire phrase is a metaphor for the last line on the phrase. Its about navigating this life and disovering who you are. And its a pretty freakin good metaphor at that. My only dislike is its a little repetitious.

Send Me All Your Angels is one of my favs…I definitely think it would be single worthy. It’s one of the songs on the album that doesn’t have that hitch in his voice (which really bugs me). It always bugged me when I heard that from Cook too. It’s just that I hear it so much from Kris. That’s why I would love it if he just hung out with his low register all the time! I’m rambling…sorry. But there’s not a lotta Kris news YET.

Oh yeah, for the record, I was a friend of Kate Barber when she only had 100 friends…I don’t even remember how I stumbled onto her twitter account!

I think LIR is special to a lot of us because we all know what Kris was going through (or had been through, bless his heart!) when he wrote it.

Can I ask a question while we wait for the Buffalo ball? I am confused about Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree being the song he recorded in the studio. I thought the video of him singing this at Disney World was for the parade. Guess what I am really hoping is that the song will be used on a tv show besides being his Disney parade song. Heck, I am just more confused typing this because I will be surprised if Kris doesn’t sing live during the parade.

I was in the seventh row at the Auditorium Theater and the shirt he was wearing didn’t look plaid. It looked white from where I was sitting with a gray sweatshirt or sweater over the top. I thought he looked perfect. Comfortable, into his music, and glad to be there.

Cale twitter party–how fun!! I love that the cell phone and computer give us this interactive means of keeping up with Kris and the band. Following him has been a source of great pleasure since Idol ended (we won’t talk about the frustrations!). But on a personal note, if I may digress, I am so grateful for these two technological advances and here’s why. We just spent 6 hours “guiding” my 25 yr. old son, who is serving in the AmeriCorps program, from Lake Tahoe over the Donner Pass back to his home in Nevada City, CA. The trip should normally take less than 2 hours. But a major snow storm hit and once again, mom and dad back in IN become “command central”. Thank God he can call us on his cell phone and we can call up CA road conditions on the computer to keep him updated as he drives (with chains on) at 25 mps through the mountains. Talk about nerve wracking! So, yes, while I LOVE that I can enjoy twitter parties and cell casts and concert videos, I love even more that I can use modern technology to get my loved one safely back home! And he is safely home. Phew! Thanks for letting me unload…now back to the twitter party!

Wow! I know what you mean. My hubby and I guided his mom (in Milwaukee) (via cell phones and using an internet map) to the hospital 30 minutes from her house when she got lost. We’re in NC. It’s amazing what you can do these days. And as a mom of 19 and 26-year olds, I can def understand how you feel!!

Thanks for making me feel more normal about this really odd behavior of hanging out on a blog thread for a guy I’ve never met! The mom gene is really hard to turn off, but I’m happy to say that, at times, I am able to switch it off and enjoy the cuteness! Even though LLWD has grown on me since I first heard it, I really wish he could do CSA, AWM, or even the Heartless/Gangtser’s Paradise mashup when he goes on Letterman. Any of those songs is a much better showcase of his voice and personality IMO. LLWD hasn’t seemed to generate a lot of interest yet, and a lot of the listening public who may only be exposed to Kris on talk shows, probably are not gonna listen to a song enough times to let it grow on them…if it doesn’t catch their interest initially, they just won’t bother giving it a second chance, or listening to anything else.

I’m loving the improvements he’s made since the show. I remember a lot of speculation that his voice wouldn’t be able to take it, and some talk about “cracking” on the falsetto….I haven’t noticed problems with any of that recently. I hope Jive is willing to stick with him; in the long run, I think he will be just fine.

No kidding! I knew he was snarky like Kris (as I’ve been following him for sometime now) but just didn’t know that they’re that alike!!! Love him even more now after this party!!! Can’t wait to hear the 3 tunes Kris and him had written today!!!

I think she asked what song(s) he wished he had written. Also, she mentioned Kris ruling with an iron fist, which I think Cale referred to with the DC tweet.

I know, I so thrilled for the new music! How long will it be until we’ll hear it…:( However, I’m thrilled with what we’re hearing right now.

I love Lennon’s In My Life! I wonder when we will ever get to hear these new tunes seeing as we haven’t even heard all the “old” tunes from the album?!

It would be great to hear something else on Letterman, but I doubt that will happen. I really hope The Truth will NOT be the second single. I want a co-write for him and I also don’t think he sings that one as well. I really like his voice on BWCU. A lot of it is in his lower register and he’s very front and center–no fighting with any production stuff. But I do agree with others that it isn’t as much fun to perform/watch. So, looking ahead to the Idol appearances, I’d vote for AWM or CSA since they are crowd pleasers.

@SarahP Oh I totally agree that Kris injects a lot of emotion into “Let It Rain”, and yes, the reason it’s such a great song is that we know what it means and that he’s talking about the struggles he went through to get this album out.

As for the bonus tracks, I LOVE “From the Ashes”. It’s an awesome, awesome song. Like, I can’t even get over how much I love this song. I like it more than “Send Me All Your Angels”, but only because I think “Send Me All Your Angels” sounds like a Chris Daughtry song, and I think it was a good call on Kris’s part to leave it off the album, otherwise he’d be accused of trying to be Chris Daughtry, even though I think Kris sings this song well and I love the song.

I think “From the Ashes” is definitely edgy and intense and I think it would go perfectly in a soundtrack for a superhero movie. I think ultimately it was probably better to leave it as a bonus track because it doesn’t really go with the rest of the album. I wish Kris had reserved it for a second album, so more people can hear the song, but it’s all good anyways.

@Diane I love that hitch in Kris’s voice! It’s what makes his voice so quirky and endearing, IMO.

THIS^ I’ve been trying to explain this to my friends who’ve been teasing me. I don’t think they believe me. But on Friday night when I saw him walking outside with the band, my first thought was ‘Hey it’s Kris!’  My second thought, ‘Where the heck is his winter coat?!’ 

I was there on Friday and was hoping to see Kris and the band. Did he come out the front (on Congress)? Also, did you see him in the audience watching the Fray? I was just wondering where he was.

I am a 40 year old mother of 4 and I love all the “maternal” comments. For the longest time I was trying to figure out my obsession with Kris. I think you guys explained it perfectly. But sometimes when a new picture or something comes out. I’m like “OK he’s hot”. Maybe it’s more than the “maternal” thing. – maybe my brain thinks I’m still 25. HA!! Is it wrong??

I’m 44 with no kids and I definitely do not feel maternal about Kris. It’s not even his hotness that does much for me. In fact, he’s a little young for my tastes. I just really, really dig the music. That’s all. Just keep it comin’.

I’m 22 but I understand the maternal concern for Kris. He’s just such a nice, classy person who deserves all the best and it’s not surprising that a lot of people feel affectionately for him and feel protective of him on top of enjoying his music.
