So…is this what a blurp is?

Kris Allen recently announced that he would be judging a Kidz Bop Talent Contest in New York City.  On September 4, the Top 4 will be announced and flown to the Big Apple, where they will receive makeovers and mentoring from Kris and his fellow judge, Candece Campbell.

Check out a brand new promo for the contest below!  And…nice buzz cut there, Kris. Heh.

I saw on the sales thread that the newest Kids Bopz CD is projected to debut at #1 on the charts this week. So matter what people think of the music, they sell well. I’m guessing there will be alot of kids entering this contest.

This is a nice promo. Wonder if it will air on t.v. or is just an online thing?

  • jinxx315

I’m sorry, but this is very lame IMO. Kidzbop? lol

  • Suzanne

He’s doing it for his label.

  • MissMyEm

I think it’s very cool actually. Kris AND the VP of AR will be doing it. I think just the fact that Jive is pairing him up with an exec at the label speaks volumes as to what they think of him and it’s all good. Moreover, I think Kris would make an awesome judge and give out some great pointers. He does so much to help kids, I find it admirable, actually. I don’t think it’s different than say….coaching child actors to be as good as they can.

Kudos to Kris. If he were my son, I’d be proud. If he were my husband, I’d never let him get away.

  • k4dc

I’m sure he means blurb, which is a short publicity notice. I know lots of people who call them blurps. It’s just a mispronunciation.

  • dy77

I disagree that it’s lame. As long as it’s part of the promo plan for the roll out of Kris’ new music, I’m on board. And as pointed out – Kidzbop sells no matter what you think of the music. And this gives him the opportunities to build relationships with his label as the other judge is an A&R rep for Jive.

As for the hair, that ear-lowering was courtesy of that makeup artist who tweeted and spilled the initial details about the video being filmed. Yeah, they shouldn’t use her again IMO. Whenever he goes too short, I just tell myself, two more weeks & it will look nice.

  • Banished

Kris is never lame. He looks great, (as always) and it’s good to see him doing SOMETHING in public, even if it is for kids

  • girlygirl

The kid who wins this gets a recording deal at RCA/Jive and Kris will be working with one of the top A&R execs at the label (she is responsible for, among other things, Hot Chellie Rae), so he is making (or building on) a very valuable contact.

So I don’t see what’s lame about it. It’s promotion to an audience that may not necessarily be all that aware of his music.

And it’s not like this is the only promo he is going to get for his new music.

  • Elliegrll

I disagree that it’s lame. As long as it’s part of the promo plan for the roll out of Kris’ new music

I don’t think it’s part of the promo plan, since Kidz Bop targets kids between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age, but it is good that he’s working with the VP of A&R at Jive. It’s also good that the prize is a record contract with RCA/Jive.

It’s really no different than a lot of the other things that Kris has done with music education over the past few years.

  • Pippygirl

I don’t think Kris knows how to be lame. I’m sure he will comes across as he always does- adorable! Anything that helps him have a good relationship with his label is good with me.
That being said that makeup artist needs to go back to cosmetology school. Unless the goal was to make Kris look like he could be in the contest instead of judging it, lol!

  • TwigLA

I think it’s all pretty cool and Kris will have fun doing it.

In other news, some girl tweeted (and was going crazy) that she’s on the same plane to DFW (Dallas Ft. Worth airport) as Kris. She also tweeted to Kris that his brother is her tumbling coach. I hope she gets to actually meet and talk to him.

Sounds like Kris is on his way back to LA.

  • sagi

It could work out very good for Kris. Look how JLo’s career got boosted by being a judge on a talent show. If he roll’s out new music while he is there or shortly after I think he could get a lot of exposure through this gig. The kids will see him, fall in love with him and buy his music! win/win

  • girlygirl

well, this isn’t being televised, so it would be hard for Kris to get the same sort of boost the judges on Idol or The Voice have gotten. The main advantage seems to be in working with the A&R person.

And of course it continues Kris’s interest in music education for kids.

  • Kitwana

Wouldn’t it be hilarious if this contest discovered the next Justin Bieber or Miley Cyrus where Idol has FAILED year after year to do so? There’s no better label to produce a superstar for the teen/tween set, see Britney, BSB, N’sync etc. so it could happen.

  • adolf_hipster

He’s doing it for his label.

hopefully they’ve made him to do this, otherwise…ouch!

  • Elliegrll

hopefully they’ve made him to do this, otherwise…ouch!

I don’t think that anyone had to make Kris do this, just like no one made him tour with the Berklee kids. I think Kris is smart enough to know that this is a good opportunity to build up a relationship with the people who work at his label, and he has a solid history of working with music education.

  • babyspock

Jason Castro was also a judge and a mentor last year. Did he have something to promote in the later part of last year?

  • jinger

It’s a great opportunity, and I’m going to let the hair slide as long as he stops writing and gets some new music out there. :P

  • Mtlfan

it’s a great way to get his name out there given the fact that kid’s music education is a cause he is/has worked for

Nice of you to take the time to post ! [interesting name BTW]
Kris is who he is- loves working with kids – if you don’t like that so be it. I happen to really appreciate that he is passionate about helping kids musically-they are future music buyers after all.
We have a well known trumpet player in Australia ,James Morrison who has spent a lot of his time helping kids at High Schools -which led to some of the students at my kids school playing with him at the Sydney Olympics.Hasn’t affected his career at all spending this time helping others & it won’t harm Kris either -in fact to me it can only benefit him , in that it helps to make him a well rounded person.

  • ross

I think this whole thing is cool. Mainly because Kris has, pretty much, a gift for interacting with other people – doesn’t really matter who the people are. He’s a nice guy, he’s funny, and you already know he’s going to be helpful, and that whoever gets to work with him is going to (probably) enjoy it, have a good time, etc.

The other thing is I think he really is a good judge of talent, based on his past comments, and I think he’s smart about music and singing in general.

  • TwigLA

Oh cool. That girl got to meet Kris.

I think it’s just fine that Kris is doing this. It gives us a chance for more threads about Kris where we can discuss his hair. I agree, much too short. Also, isn’t that the same shirt Kris wore at the Simon Fuller Walk of Fame Ceremony? Yep, I think it is.

I can never watch a “blurp” by Kris without thinking of “Kris Allen Outtakes”:

So glad he is on his way to LA, more music sooner!!!

lol.. actually the video above made me think also of that :)
    He’s too adorable :)

  • EmyR

So matter what people think of the music, they sell well.

They are really consistent sellers, they reach gold about half the time. Their song choice and subsequent censorship is odd at times, but this is an interesting opportunity for kids and Kris will be fun and he’s interested in music education for kids.

I’m not sure it’s going to do anything to get his name out though. It’s not exactly well known, it’s just a web series, and a lot of people in the much desired demo do think Kidz Bop is “lame” (my little sisters, for instance, are “too cool for this “kiddie stuff”). But I don’t think that really matters when he’ll be doing something he enjoys and he’ll be doing alongside someone important within Jive. That is enough to make it worth while for him.

Plus, it’ll be cute to see him interacting with kids.

  • Ratna12

I can just imagine that when Kris get any offers to do anything or appear in anything, the first thing he thinks is ,” OK, how is this going to benefit me, me, me and more me.”

Maybe Kris will benefit from this, maybe not, maybe he will just enjoy the process. Who knows ?, but this judging will happen in New York City ? Kris loves NYC, home of Jambajim :)

  • Ratna12

Cute tweets from the 2 girls who were in that same plane as Kris.

    cheer_bro @Maddi_cake We totally wrote @KrisAllen a note…and got a wave! #score

Maddi_cake Did #krisallen just wave at me? Gah! :))))

cheer_bro :Yeah, we wrote it on a barf bag. Haha, oh well. Got the point across :)

LOL, for noticing Kris wearing the same shirt.
    Guess what ?

KrisAllen: Bags got lost…..so if you see a guy repeatedly wearing the same thing everyday in LA it’s me.

KrisAllen: Apparently I needed some new stuff anyways. #imgonnagobacktonotreadingmyreplies

So this is what Kris will be wearing for the next few weeks: http://t.co/YDtBnC3

Hope all his new music is in that shoulder bag of his!

  • marmom07

Well good for Kris. I’m sure he’ll do a good job and have fun with it. These kids have parents and siblings who may buy music. Even if it’s only 10 more buying his music, ever bit helps expand his base and those who like it will talk to people who talk to people etc. It’s the way it works.

I don’t think Kris is lame by any means. More power to him for keeping his career going. The music itself though is lame to me. Have you ever heard some of the songs? For kids to be singing adult themed songs is just kinda funny to me. Actually, any song with kids singing in it kind of sounds creepy lol.

  • girlygirl

Just saw a tweet that said Kris was in the Kidz Bop commercial. Not sure what that means — are they promoting this contest on tv rather than just online? Or is he in a commercial promoting the cds? Not sure

    It was for the contest.

Here’s video of last year’s winner being greeted by all her supporters (I guess?). Jason castro briefly pops in with a taped message of congrats — and slips in a plug for his album :)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uonFvqJ14jc&feature=youtu.be

This girl isn’t a bad singer. Did she get a record contract, or is this the first year that is the prize?

  • tripp_ncwy

This girl isn’t a bad singer. Did she get a record contract, or is this the first year that is the prize?

I thought it was strange I couldn’t find out anything about the record deal for Hunter Pecunia & here is why.

    Here is the actual prize.
A 2 song KIDZ BOP recording contract
An appearance in a KIDZ BOP commercial
A performance on a KIDZ BOP album!
An appearance in a KIDZ BOP music video!
    A $1,000.00 gift card!

Plus she was not new to entertainment. She was one of the kids on Barney & Friends (2003-2010) and had done commercials for years.

ETA: Read the fine print. This year’s winner’s deal seems to be better since an actual record label is attached.

Was LLWD ever on a KidzBop cd?

Good job as usual by Kris! Looking forward to seeing how the contest plays out. Evoking the Thumper rule as regards to his hair. :-)

Thanks for the outtakes video–funny stuff!

This year’s prize includes a recording contract with RCA/Jive.

Win a recording contract with the RCA/JIVE Label Group
Appear in a KIDZ BOP commercial
Perform on a KIDZ BOP album
Appear in a KIDZ BOP music video!
The KIDZ Star Grand Prize winner will also receive a $1,000.00 gift card!

  • Tera2

I think this is good for Kris and the kids. He knows what its like to be in a contest and win. Those kidz bop things do sell and give exposure to artists when they cover their songs. May be they’ll find the next Justin Beiber. And its with a major label RCA/Jive too. I’ll check it out if I know what channel its on.
