I missed Kris Allen’s interview on MTV’s It’s On With Alexa Chung. Drat. It’s a pretty fun interview–so fun, I’m going to post the sub-standard video a reader posted in comments. If something better turns up I’ll replace it.

Kris talks about his childhood tumor, his travels as a missionary and his biggest fear. He also sits in Alexa’s lap and sings jingles!

Video after the JUMP…

This interview was awkward turtle for sure, but Alexa’s interviews always are. Kris was the one that kept the interview from stalling and it was pretty good overall. Least it wasn’t the same old boring shit! LOL

And it was so funny when he mentioned Adam’s name…you could tell he was waiting for huge cheers and was surprised when no one cared lol. You should have seen/heard the audience everytime the Jonas Brothers were mentioned though. Haha!

Can’t believe he sat on Alexa’s lap. That’s a lucky woman there!

  • ryo

Alexa Chung has got to be the most awkward interviewer ever. I have a hard time watching her honestly because every single interview is so terribly awkward. However, I did watch this one and I was glad – Kris was adorable as always. He actually did a pretty good job at keeping the interview moving when it got awkward.

  • lamslova

I watched the videos again and I did see it on tv. Hes adorable and interviewed well here, but the whole time I watched I kept hoping this was taped cause its just such a beautiful day here in nyc I was hoping he and the other idols actually got to enjoy the day in the city on their day off from the tour.

  • jack5791

Wow, she is awkward! Kris was funny though :)

  • Vada

Was he wearing house slippers? Seriously, the man is just a walking GQ ad, is he not? LOL

  • poporange

delted-Kris Allen does not capture my interest vocally and find he is good looking can be an asset or not.

  • jmom376

Vada: I think those are Tom’s Shoes. It’s the company that donates a pair of shoes to children overseas everytime you purchase a pair.. Not the coolest looking shoes, but they are for a great cause.

Official Store – TOMS Shoes – A Pair of New Shoes is Given to a Child …
Buy a pair of TOMS men’s, women’s, or children’s shoes, and a pair is donated to a child on your behalf. Browse online store and find retailers near you.www.tomsshoes.com

A lot of people say that and I’m always delighted to tell them that no, they are TOM’s Shoes. When you buy a pair the company is able to give a pair to someone in a third world country :D

  • girlygirl

Those are Tom’s shoes. When you buy a pair, the company gives away a pair to a child in need — I think mainly in 3rd world countries

This interview was sort of awkward, but Kris did a nice job keeping it moving. I don’t think he was into trying to sing those jingles, though.

And scorned Adam! That’s one of the few times I’ve seen a crowd be indifferent to even hearing Adam’s name.

Oh — new shirt! new shirt! yeah, it’s plaid — but it’s one we haven’t seen before.

And lucky lady to have Kris sit on her lap!

  • GeminiDolly

That. was. weird. Kris is adorable though. always.

  • luvadamlambert

    Brb going to watch kris….

  • luvadamlambert

The interviewer is sooooooo awkweird but kris is awesome as always !

  • thebluemartini

    Ah, Kris was adorable!! =)

  • Avery@KrisTogether

Kris does not wash his tour shirt.

This is also the man who guilty pleasure is to “wake up, not take a shower all day…be nasty all day.” Oh, Kris.

  • becausehelives

is this interview here in america?. or is it MTV UK?. I have never heard of this show.
Never mind I wld have heard already if kris travelled for the interview. I didn’t enjoy it at all. the lady was so distracting.

  • Tess

who in the hell is Alexa Chung?

It’s in America. It’s a relatively new show though so if you haven’t been watching MTV the past month or so then that’s prob why you know nothing of it.

  • girlygirl

I put this in the headline thread already. But check out Kris’ last tweet (about the NASDAQ app.), then check out some of the tweets he got back in reply – ROFLMAO!

Maybe not cool shoes, but a cool guy wearing them for a great cause.

They have this on every day at noon and I think it’s live. I think this is their replacement for TRL?

I thought Kris was adorable as always and I like his reaction when he sat on her lap. haha.

  • danimich

I didn’t get the impression that the audience didn’t care when Kris mentioned Adam’s name. I think they wanted to clap for Adam but weren’t sure if they should. Maybe it was the expression on Kris’ face. He was the guest and they didn’t want to be rude.

  • jmom376

I think Kris was very funny. Especially when he sat on her lap and when he was waiting for the response when he said “Adam”.

Ross: sorry, I wasn’t trying to dis Kris on my comment (I’m a big Kris fan). I think Tom’s is an awesome company and I love what they do. After looking at their WebSite, they do have some pretty cool looking shoes (the design ones)..

  • sunny2

Wow, I’ve never seen this Alexa person before. Her legs look longer than all of Kris Allen. I agree, she is a very akward interviewer, but at least she didn’t talk about Adam the whole time.

  • jill16

I don’t think the audience was sure if it was all right to clap for Adam either. Adam should have been there to help Kris with the jingles. He’s such a quick thinker.

  • Squirrely

Tom shoes are not the most flattering shoes around. I like the concept behind them but I don’t like the styles. I really love that he makes a vegan line of shoes as well.

  • SouthernKradamFan

Am I the only one that was pretty disturbed by the story Kris told about a fan sticking her tongue down his throat? When was that?

And also, how do you see the replies to people’s tweets if your following them? Sorry for the dumb question, but I don’t understand.

  • girlygirl

    SouthernKradamFan

to see the replies to tweets, go to the search box on twitter and put in @[that person's twittername] — in this case, you’d put in @krisallen4real

  • isisdagmar

It’s very interesting to hear Kris talk about his missionary work. I know that he doesn’t like to appear to be using his religion at all, but I do hope that it gets covered in more depth in that long interview that he’ll be doing with the LA Times reporter.

Ugh, the fan tongue story squicks me out every time.

And Kris was very cute with the “me and Adam” *wait for applause* *look confused* *tell audience to applaud* thing. They must be really used to hearing applause whenever they mention each other by now. I wonder if the audience were not Adam fans, or if they weren’t sure if they should applaud (they didn’t seem that loud in general, so maybe they were just very mellow :) ). And yeah, awkward interviewer, but Kris is v. charming.

  • SouthernKradamFan

    girlgirl, thank you!

  • ryo

Kris told that “tongue down my throat” story really early in the tour – I think it happened at one of the first concerts. It freaked me out too.

  • PattyH

I’ve never watched Alex before but that was really awful!

  • becausehelives

Kris might just be the not so clean one on the bus that the idols talk abt. he doesn’t wash his shirts, the plaid one and the black one and i am guessing the black pants too. he can’t mean since portland can he?. that wld be so gross.

  • alison8701

To be fair, he said “I don’t wash them.” I doubt any of them wash their own clothes. And no matter if you only wear it for.. i don’t know, 20 minutes, after two months.. no, yeah, they’ve been washed. They’re probably handed off to wardrobe people and they’re not see again until they get dressed for the next show.

I think he was being facetious. He’s a pretty funny guy, but not in an obvious way.

  • leeaundra

Am I the only one that was pretty disturbed by the story Kris told about a fan sticking her tongue down his throat? When was that?

It happened on the Thursday after the finale at Mrs. Lambert’s birthday dinner. Mr. & Mrs. Allen, Katy & Kris (don’t know about Daniel) were celebrating with the Lamberts. The first time I heard him mention it was in a backstage interview at the NBA playoffs. It is a squicky story, but Kris is getting a lot of mileage out of it. BTW, Kris said that when he told Katy about this woman she laughed about it.

This interview, and the host, were weird, IMO – it felt really awkward and he looked mostly uncomfortable.

ETA: I agree with Alison8701. Kris doesn’t wash his clothes – but someone does. The wardrobe people handle that stuff.

  • Yss

That’s right, you heard him: No coffehouse and small venues for Kris, only big Arenas!
I love how he demanded a cheer from the audience for Adam! Come on, Adam Lambert!!!
Plus, he sat in her lap, Oh lucky awkward woman!!!!

And yes Kris, your dirty shirt falling apart on stage would be pretty Rock’n Roll!!!

  • MrsB

I was really uncomfortable watching this interview earlier on the other thread before it was posted here. Dang it I can’t keep up with you guys and already commented on his shirt but did not want to say any more.

It was awkward indeed – Kris doesn’t seem to be the chattiest person to begin with not alone with someone he doesn’t know. I feel he is truly himself when he TRUSTS them like the earlier one with the young lady from the asian TV channel. He seems to take his cue from within, kind of like his music. Now that I know this gal does most of her shows in this awkward manner (very choppy kinda) I’m feeling a whole lot better! I notice he pays attention to everything whether he is offstage or on, like he is on observation-mode or something! Cute as shit sometimes! I’m hoping he will learn to be more comfortable with verbal communication because it will only help him in the long term! In the meantime I’m happy to take any snippet I can cause he’s my BB for sure! :wub_tb:

On a more shallow note he is easy on the eyes to say the least especially in the red plaid which makes him look more adorable – loved his shoes especially without the socks – very preppy & cool – can’t even imagine his aura in person, his sweetness would most likely capture my heart in second or two as I can almost feel it through youtube! But then again I would be more enamored if he would pull out his guitar and sing his music – his looks and the way he dresses are just the icing!!!!!

  • birchtree

Awkward interview, yes. But I liked the whole thing. Qwirky. I never knew that about Kris and small audiences. I find that interesting because when I am watching–even just listening to–Kris sing, I feel he is just singing to me. I just assumed by the way Kris can touch people with his music it would so fit, style-wise, in small settings.

  • vanjess38

” I never knew that about Kris and small audiences”
I also felt the same the first time I heard him say that and I think some of his family have also said that in interviews. But after watching his videos from the tour whidh are even not all that good due to the devices used, I’m convinced that he can play anywhere be it bigger or smaller venues.
I also feel like he’s singing to me even watching his videos.
I remember what Kara said on the top 2 night.

“If you don’t feel a Kris Allen performmance then there’s something wrong with you”.
And she told him,”You make us feel that you are singing to us and that is so hard to do”.
So that is Kris, and I personally feel when you play for a very small audience, you don’t get too much of their energy which helps you as a performer unlike a bigger one.

  • auntieaimee

Kris does not wash his tour shirt.

This is also the man who guilty pleasure is to ‘wake up, not take a shower all day’ ¦be nasty all day.’ Oh, Kris.

He’s probably one of those dudes that hardly sweats and when he does, it probably smells sweet. Damn him.

  • ross

Ross: sorry, I wasn’t trying to dis Kris on my comment (I’m a big Kris fan). I think Tom’s is an awesome company and I love what they do. After looking at their WebSite, they do have some pretty cool looking shoes (the design ones)..

I guess my comment came out wrong jmom376. I didn’t mean to imply you were trying to dis Kris! I just wanted to say he was a cool guy because he wears Tom’s shoes (i. e., cares about other people).

Kris came across really relaxed and comfortable. He’s so cool. I thought his response to “What was the last thing you did for free?” was funny (“That woman that made out with me.”).

I actually liked Alexa Chung and thought she was pretty quick. And Kris seemed like he’s been doing this for twenty years. He’s so laid back; I like how he doesn’t try to be a laugh a minute. He’s just naturally easygoing, charming, and funny.

  • eliza

He’s probably one of those dudes that hardly sweats and when he does, it probably smells sweet. Damn him.

I hear he smells like cinnamon and heaven.

That interview was pretty awkward, but it was still cute. I laughed at his repeat mentions of it being cat week. I love it when his snarky side shows through.

  • MrsB

Hopefully after the tour Kris won’t be talking “Big Arenas” anymore, he is not about to admit singing in smaller venues NOW when he has so many more to do on this AI tour – he is very wise person for sure!

I hate large venue arenas, they are too big and noisy and half the time the equipment doesn’t work properly. I’m just hoping this was just one of his smart game moves!!

I would much prefer to hear him live in a smaller venue because they always sound better to me so if he really DID mean it I am disappointed and hope he doesn’t always get to have the last word. Selfish I know but I don’t care it’s how I feel. If it’s good enough for David Cook then Kris should feel grateful to do the same after his album comes out. From what I’ve heard and seen I could never imagine Kris not being grateful performing ANYWHERE after his album cuts.

My gut instinct tells me this was a PR move!

  • ross

And also, how do you see the replies to people’s tweets if your following them? Sorry for the dumb question, but I don’t understand.

    I wondered the same thing.

Hopefully after the tour Kris won’t be talking ‘Big Arenas’ anymore, he is not about to admit singing in smaller venues NOW when he has so many more to do on this AI tour – he is very wise person for sure.

MrsB, I probably wasn’t listening too closely but I assumed he meant he didn’t like performing for very small groups of people. Like 12 people. In the living room. Or maybe or bars or coffee houses or whatever.

I mean, it’s easier to be onstage in front of a big group, because you don’t feel the eyes on you or hear each individual reaction.

I don’t think he meant he’d be uncomfortable in the usual smaller venues, though.

  • sunkissedtrampoline

And yeah, I’m sure his clothes get washed. His shirts look shrunken on him now especially the Plaid one he wears for his set.

  • vanjess38

MrsB, ross, you are all right one way or the other.
I believe it’s a PR move and he’s very smart. He’s on tour now playing in stadiums so it will be stupid for him to say he likes to play small arenas. Secondly, as ross said, I don’t think he meant as David Cook is doing now because David is doing great. He was refering to small as coffee houses, bars etc which some people try to associate him with, not because he has no talent but because they claim he doesn’t have a big voice. He has proved them wrong on the tour anyway. That said, I don’t think Kris wiil refuse any thing he’s offered, that’s just not him. He’s been grateful so far and I think he’s looking forward to a long lasting career, not stardom. It’s really going to work for him but I bet he’ll play a full verizon arena in AR. Haha.

  • ross

I actually thought he meant something different. I related to it, having done some acting. I don’t like to perform in front of, like, 20 people, it can make you feel really self-conscious. You can see and hear individual people’s reactions. In a big theatre you’re performing for an audience that is farther away, and that reacts more as a group. This is actually a lot easier to play to. Kind of hard to explain.

  • leeaundra

I hear he smells like cinnamon and heaven.

The weird things you can remember from twitter. I think it was Aaron Spears (tour drummer) that asked him on behalf of a fan if he smelled like heaven. Kris’ reply (according to Aaron) was: “Only on Tuesdays.” lol

It floors me how many interviewers don’t even read his Q&A at the AI site – it’s been there since what, the Top 13? He answered so many of the questions he keeps getting asked by interviewers:

    http://www.americanidol.com/contestants/season_8/kris_allen/

  • MrsB

Ross, the audio was not clear to begin with and when he first responded, I assumed he meant singing for her audience (which looked pretty small to me) and then the ditzy lady is saying something about coffee houses (and I personally despise people who mention this to him when he hasn’t been given the chance to prove himself as a solo artist yet) next I hear he prefers doing big arenas, so maybe now I’m thinking he used the big arena scenerio as a defense comeback. But I have to admit there is a huge gap between the two. Thank you for your feedback as it gave me the opportunity to rethink my previous scenerio. I personally believe stepping out of ones comfort zone
can be a very good thing especially for a music artist! So cmon now Kris step out and give it a chance! :smile1_tb:

Thank you Ross me likes “think he’d be comfortable in a good-sized theatre” :clap_tb:

  • Vada

    hhttp://newsroom.mtv.com/2009/08/10/whos-hotter-megan-fox-or-robert-pattinson-the-oh-snap-poll/

This is very surprising, considering the fact that nearly 90 percent of the people polled were female. (We actually tried to find more guys to poll, but “American Idol” winner Kris Allen was on Alexa Chung’s show, where we conduct these rigorous surveys, so the crowd was mostly excited young girls.)

  • alison8701

    http://www.americanidol.com/contestants/season_8/kris_allen/

It floors you? To be honest, he’s probably asked those questions BECAUSE they’ve seen it. They’ve got researchers on talk shows that find out lots of information about the people about to be interviewed. And if they’ve found something interesting or something trivia like, they’ll be asked again. They don’t assume people watching the shows are watching JUST for the guest, they assume it’s the talkshow hosts regular viewing audience.

what would be nice is if they (meaning Kris and other guests) answered the questions with a different answer each time. confuse people. because really, who is only scared of one thing?

  • cookcricket

It’s always great to see Kris!!! And yes, I agree with Ross, he meant like at a party, not a smaller venue.

  • ross

MrsB, I guess I edited my post, so what you quoted isn’t there. Sorry. But yeah, I did originally say I think Kris would also be comfortable in good-sized theatres, not just arenas.

In an interview, Kris mentioned they were talking about possibly playing colleges, like David Cook, and this is when I thought of the “good-sized theatres” I guess.

The weird things you can remember from twitter. I think it was Aaron Spears (tour drummer) that asked him on behalf of a fan if he smelled like heaven. Kris’ reply (according to Aaron) was: ‘Only on Tuesdays.’ lol

I keep laughing out loud at all this stuff Kris says lately. I guess Allison was right when she said he’s hilarious.

  • callitags

I’m having a hard time making out his answer to the “don’t stop believing in what” question. Can someone help me out? Thanks!

  • alison8701

He says “Don’t stop believing in… cat week.”

  • OutlandoGirl

Gah! That was awkward. Didn’t care for that at all.

But Kris’ strategic pause after saying that Adam is the one he spends the most time with….KRIS is fueling the Kradamites more than Adam is these days!

  • callitags

    Thanks alison

  • ShariG

Love his laugh. He is so natural and completely at ease during these interviews. His sense of humor always comes out. Guess he is seeing the world now. Well at least the USA. Maybe the world will come later.

  • hwc

Dang. I don’t know who the kid in plaid is so I muted the sound, but watched both interviews just to see those legs.

Two words for whoever shot the video from the TV: tri pod

Dang. I don’t know who the kid in plaid is so I muted the sound, but watched both interviews just to see those legs.

@HWC: Kindly allow me to enlighten you. That awesome guy in one of the nicest plaid shirts I’ve ever seen is Kris Allen, the American Idol of 2009.

Awkward interview though I’ve to agree that Alexa has nice legs (I’m saying this as a straight female).

  • anovich

Dang. I don’t know who the kid in plaid is so I muted the sound, but watched both interviews just to see those legs.

If you don’t know who he is – why are you watching his interviews and putting comments about him here? even if you are watching to see the legs that doesn’t require commenting on it
