Kris Allen will be heading to Haiti on Friday. He’ll be back to perform and share his experiences on Idol, February 25.

Via an Idol press release:

AMERICAN IDOL’s Kris Allen will travel to Haiti with the United Nations Foundation to raise further awareness of the country’s continuing needs after last month’s earthquake. During the IDOL results show on Thursday, Feb. 25 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), Allen will perform and will share footage of his trip to raise awareness and funds that will benefit those in need via one of this year’s IDOL GIVES BACK beneficiaries, the UN Foundation.

During the show, viewers will be asked to support the efforts in Haiti by donating much-needed funds. Donations will be accepted online and via text-messaging, and proceeds will go to the IDOL GIVES BACK Foundation to help the UN Foundation and their work in Haiti.

“It is heartbreaking to see the devastation that Haiti is currently facing,” said Allen. “I am truly honored to be traveling to Haiti to see the UN’s relief efforts firsthand and to help out in any way that I can.”

Speaking of IGB, Elliott Yamin and Kara DioGuardi are on their way to Angola as we speak. Elliott tweeted a photo today from the plane.

The Idol Gives Back special will air during the Top 7 results show, on April 21. The special music event will raise awareness and funds to benefit five charities, including Children’s Health Fund, Feeding America, Malaria No More, Save the Children’s U.S. Programs and the United Nations Foundation.

According to the official press release, Kris is going to Haiti on Friday!

  • rmeyer9970

What will he sing? Live Like We’re Dying and Alright With Me won’t really work when talking about Haiti.

Cat’s out of the bag. @KrisAllen going to Haiti Friday & will perform on next week’s “Idol’s” Results Show. (Please. Play. Bring. It. Back.)
    5 minutes ago from web

So it sounds like he’s leaving Friday and will be in Haiti for just a few days. I hope he gets to do some actual hands-on work like he was saying he wants to do. Please don’t turn this into solely a P.R. thing, AI producer people!

Oh, and please let Kris sing something OTHER than LLWD on that 2/25 show

(why is the results show on Thursday next week, anyhoo???)

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

    Ohhh that’s so cool!!!!!!!
Kristopher really has a good heart

    OMK,Kris you rock ! ;)

  • AIaddict

I am loving this man and his music more and more. I don’t care what he sings I will be listening.

  • Truthiness

Well good for IGB and for Kris as being a part of this.

And yeah, might be a bit awkward to sing LLWD, wouldn’t it? Maybe he’ll do Man In The Mirror? That would be an appropriate song, plus it has Idol connections for Kris, and of course he plays it a lot. I think that would be the best song choice I can think of right now.

  • Parabola

The results show is on Thursday because they went back to the old-new semifinal format (one sex performs on Tuesday, the other on Wednesday, results on Thursday).

  • Indigobunting

    Good for Kris!

It would be fun for him to sing something completely new; but I would imagine they would want him to sing something from the album.

  • girlygirl

    Parabola

    oh thanks.

There was another tweet about Kris being in the studio recording a Neil Diamond song? I wonder if this will be used as the “kiss off” song for when the contestants get voted off? Or whether it’s going to be a charity single for Haiti? I really can’t think of any other reason why Kris would have any interest in covering a Neil Diamond song…

  • savgal

Tears in my eyes, at the thought of Kris going to Haiti. And, yes, definitely needs to sing something more in line with the theme, and not necessarily from his album. LLWD would be a poor choice, IMO. I’m sure Kris knows many songs that would be appropriate. Trying to think of some, myself….

  • girlygirl

    more from Jim C.

(I imagine Idol will bring Kris back again later in the season, too. Especially if they’re tying him to “Idol Gives Back” already.)

I wish he could sing something to promote his album. Like his next single….

Kris is going to Haiti this Friday?

Maybe he’ll be singing the new boot song and proceeds from its sales will go to Haiti. Just a guess.

I’m really curious about what song he’s going to sing. Too early for the second single, right?

    Thanks parabola-I was wondering too

Here’s an interview with Kris (from today) where he talks about this (and other stuff)

  • http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=227878099299 ai_fan

It will probably be a charity single of sorts, probably not an album song. That’s my guess. LLWD is still going strong, I doubt it will be the next single.

  • Thom

I wish there is someone record the whole thing of what Kris is doing to help people in Haiti and posting it in Youtube. I really want to see everything about Kris in Haiti. I know Idol Gives Back will not show everything. They just show a little bit. Now I wait to see what song Kris is going to sing on Feb 25.

  • TwigLA

I didn’t expect him to be going this soon. I wonder how long he’ll be there and I hope he has the opportunity to do some hands on work. I also hope that they let him just talk about what he’s seeing and don’t script him. He did great with the Ford commercials just talking about the car.

Going through the songs on his album, the bonus ‘From The Ashes’ would work well for this. I’m curious about his recording a Neil Diamond song. WHo tweeted that?

  • babybelle32

It would be good if he performed “I Need to No.” That would be a good song to play, as they show a montage of what’s going on in Haiti.

  • girlygirl

here’s the tweet that talks about Kris beign in the studio doing Neil Diamond tunes. This guy is a dj here in L.A. (in fact, I think he’s the morning drive DJ on KBIG). I wonder if he means in the radio station studio (rather than in a recording studio)?

Glad they have Kris available to do this.

As someone who quietly worked in poor areas overseas when he was an unknown, and who’s such a calm and together guy, he’s a great choice to do the two things that such visits can do –bring a sense to people in a terrible situation that the outside world is not forgetting them, and help tell the story to the people back in the US who may be able to continue to help.

While We Are the World and Help for Haiti and Idol Gives Back are not perfect –in an ideal world, we wouldn’t need celebrities to focus our attention on those in need–ever since the days of Live Aid the reality has been that popular musicians have been a big force in public aid and awareness for people in poverty.

Kris is one piece of a larger tapestry, but he’s one of the best equipped to play that role.

I think for those of us who really respect when one musician or favorite star we like does charity –and hope that their motives are treated generously –of course we try to extend that respect to others. But no matter what unpleasant fanwarring is always going on, KA has got a big and growing circle of people who appreciate him as one a pretty darn cool guy. Good luck, dude.

  • TopCatDC

I hope he gets to do some actual hands-on work like he was saying he wants to do. Please don’t turn this into solely a P.R. thing, AI producer people!

This is a quick PR trip – but that’s not a bad thing. Kris’s role right now is to get Idol viewers involved in the UN Foundation’s effort start the long-term work on rebuilding this broken country. So, in other words the PR is for UN Foundation Haiti projects, not Kris and Idol.

  • AnalogGirl

I think Kris Allen is my idol.

  • Overboard

I Need to Know would be the perfect song for him to perform. Really really hope he does this.

  • mzbet

I can think of one perfect Neil Diamond song that would tie in with a trip to Haiti. “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother”. Of course the Neil Diamond tweet (if it’s actually true) may have nothing to do with the trip to Haiti. Just thinking out loud.

Kris has said that he wants to do hands-on helping with whatever he can. I hope he’s allowed to do that.

  • tripp_ncwy

After the trip would also be an opportunity for Kris to get out in the public eye more to raise additional awareness of IGB & the UN Foundation by going on talk shows, a PSA and/or commercial spots sharing his experiences in Haiti. Oprah needs to give him a ring.

  • evanjane

Unfortunately, people forget. The saying, “out of sight, out of mind”, holds true even in the most catastrophic disasters. What better platform than American Idol to keep Haiti in the world’s consciousness! I’m glad Kris will be with a reputable organization. He’s been in devastated areas before, but I’m certain seeing the suffering in Haiti might be hard to process. I wish Kris a safe trip.

  • http://twitter.com/maxsmom61 CathyMK

I think it’s great that Kris is doing this. I also agree with Jim- Bring It Back would be a good song for this performance, especially if it’s going to be a charity single. I Need to Know is also a good choice, but I like Bring It Back better. ;)

Hopefully the appearance will help Haiti, and help Kris’ album sales.

  • JudyL

This could explain Kris singing a Neil Diamond song. It may actually have something to do with Kris’ appearance on Idol for the Haiti fund raising. Well, it can’t hurt to speculate in the meantime. I was thinking of the song from ET:

Turn on your Heartlight, Let it shine wherever you go,
Let it make a happy glow for all the world to see

Tinker with a few of the other lines and it sounds pretty appropriate.

  • ross

If a DJ says someone is “in studio”, I assume that means in the radio studio, live, not a recording studio. Could be wrong, but that’s how I read that tweet.

By the way, LLWD seems to me to be a pretty good song for a situaltion like this, and to ask people to give to this cause.

How come we don’t say I love you enough
till it’s to late? It’s not too late.

Our hearts are hungry for a food that won’t come
we could make a feast from these crumbs
and we’re all staring down the barrel of a gun
so if your life flashed before you
what would you wish you would’ve done?

  • TwigLA

Since it was Valentine tweeting, it must be in KBIG’s studio. Why in the world Neil Diamond songs??? Unless he was trying to be funny.

This had to be taped since Kris is supposed to be in Ft. Lauderdale tomorrow and Haiti on Friday.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/luvadamlamberts-american-idol-tour-2009-washington-dc-re-cap.htm luvadamlambert

Whoa, thanks Ross! I can see how it might work…when he performs it it’ll probably get into th top 10,if only for a short while

  • Truthiness

By the way, LLWD seems to me to be a pretty good song for a situaltion like this, and to ask people to give to this cause.

Maybe just me, but the song is just way too jaunty to me to be used in situations where people are actually dying, and have actually died. This isn’t a ‘sieze the moment because you could possibly die,’ this is people have died, lots of them, lots more, unfortunately, are going to. The carpe diem thing of LLWD just doesn’t work, to me, for natural disaster site.

Again, MMV, but I would feel that would be really an awkward choice of song.

Bring It Back? okay, I can see that more. I don’t know what Neil Diamond song he would sing, I don’t like most of his music and find Heartlight to be a musical bunch of treacle.

But I’m sure that they’ll come up with a good song choice, and if it is a charity single? Excellent.

  • cakeygirl

so is kris singing llwd or a neil diamond song when hes on idol??

  • washpd

No one knows what he is going to sing, but I am 99.99999999% sure he’s not singing a Neil Diamond song. The tweet about that was referring to him being in a radio studio, not recording a song.

I would love for Kris to sing I Need to Know or an appropriate cover song. It could be cool if he sang I Need to Know, and if all proceeds from iTunes downloads of the song for the week or for a month or whatever would go to IGB. That would be really nice.

Also, maturin, I wanted to thank you for your post. I couldn’t possibly have said it better.

  • HannaB4

I don’t think LLWD would be a good song for such a cause because it’s too wordy. The words fly by so quickly, it’s hard for people who may have never heard it before to know what he’s saying.
Can’t believe Kris would sing a cover when he has his own album to promote.

  • fanaround

Good job Kris. He’s a very obvious choice since he has at least some experience with reconstruction efforts from the tsunami. I like the idea of I Need to Know. It’s so aching. People who have lost can relate to all the “why” and “what” in that song. I’m thinking it will be a cover though, as much as I love love love INTK. INTK would probably not work as a single other than this. Fingers crossed but without too much hope.

  • Truthiness

Well I don’t think Kris is going to sing Neil Diamond either. I thought that was a reference to an in radio thing, but just in case…uh okay.

And yeah, I Need To Know is actually my favourite song off of Kris’s album, so it that was what he sang, I would just be soooooo effing happy, and having the proceeds go to help Haiti? I mean there is no downside to that. Beautiful song with Kris singing it live, and money and exposure to help those in Haiti. Utter win.

  • JudyL

Probably the best thing would be if the Haiti cause segment is separate from the segment with Kris performing.

  • ross

opportunities to show love to other people before it’s too late.”

But anyway, I’m not sure I get why it’s necessary to sing something related to the disaster, at all. I would think he would perform his single, and after he performs, he would talk about going to Haiti and the film would be shown. Or he’d talk, then perform later. I’m not sure why the two things need to be related.

  • ross

Oops — the first part of my post should have read:

Maybe just me, but the song is just way too jaunty to me to be used in situations where people are actually dying, and have actually died. This isn’t a ’sieze the moment because you could possibly die,’ this is people have died, lots of them, lots more, unfortunately, are going to. The carpe diem thing of LLWD just doesn’t work, to me, for natural disaster site.

I take the song to be about “don’t miss your opportunities to show love to other people before it’s too late.”

  • HeidiL

    “Send Me All Your Angels”

  • Truthiness

I take the song to be about “don’t miss your opportunities to show love to other people before it’s too late.”

Super cute message when you’re talking figurtively, not literally. Live like you’re dying! especially when you are! No f’reals! Hey you! trapped in an earthquake, don’t forget the opportunity to LIVE by realizing that you won’t want life to pass you by admitting your love for other people. Not by actually, ya know, not dying. I mean, what’s your possible actual death, or death of your loved ones immediately, much less slowly afterwards with the lack of potable water, food, and with injuries, compared to realizing you could have missed an opportunity for love? I mean, proportion here.

And all with lots of words and an upbeat melody as well! Score!

But clearly, mileage is varying on that one, which is cool. I just think it would be fantasically bad to do LLWD as part of Haiti relief. There are so many more appropriate songs on Kris’s album, imho.

So what song about the horrors of actual death, and the lack of potable water food and injuries, would you think would make a nice song to get people to give money to Haiti, Truthiness? Just curious.
I really don’t think you have to sing a dirge just because you’re asking people to give to a cause like Haiti. Maybe something that is hopeful might also be appropriate?

  • babybelle32

The performance next week isn’t about promoting the album, it’s about launching this year’s IGB fundraiser, and reminding people about what’s happening in Haiti.

I agree wholeheartedly. Kris would be the last person to do something inappropriate.

  • Truthiness

So what song about the horrors of actual death, and the lack of potable water food and injuries, would you think would make a nice song to get people to give money to Haiti, Truthiness? Just curious.
I really don’t think you have to sing a dirge just because you’r asking people to give to a cause like Haiti. Maybe something that is hopeful might also be appropriate?

I’m not saying that a dirge is what’s necessary. I’ve already given tons of alternatives to a song about how figurtively dying and wanting to sieze the day. Again, really cute message when not actually dying. It’s a Maslow’s hierarchy of needs thing to me. I think Man In the Mirror would be a classic song to help out and not a dirge at all. “Let Them Know It’s Christmas?” I think was a little more down than “We Are The World,” (which wasn’t exactly an up song) and hey, both of them might be a little more ‘up’ than “Everybody Hurts.” I don’t think it’s terribly hard to pick out songs and titles that aren’t going to ping on the AWKward meter the way a song about Living Like You’re Dying wherein living is some ‘better’ life, not just a life, i.e. actuallly living.

You obviously feel differently, and that’s cool. But I just am not feeling it.

I think more sober songs on Kris’s album, like I Need To Know, or Bring It Back, would be a better choice. Though again, my first choice remains Man In The Mirror. And given Kris’s connection to the song on AI and afterwards, the MJ stuff to We Are The World, that Kris admired MJ, and it’s message, that would be my non-dirge like song for a single to benefit Haiti from Kris.

  • Truthiness

Oh I have to add, something like “Send Me All Your Angels,” sounds like a great choice to sing as well for this. The title alone is just, wonderful. Plus it even has another AI connection, so there is that.

  • Parabola

I think there are hopeful songs out there without the word dying in the actual lyrics. I have to agree with those who think the tone of LLWD is all wrong for introducing/coming out of a segment about the devastation in Haiti. Maybe if the segment is in one part of the show and Kris’s performance is in the other, I guess I could deal with that. I think Kris should do a cover, pretty much everyone else has done covers for the Haiti charity fundraising singles, except the ones who penned original songs (that weren’t bouncy songs about living each day like your last-I think LLWD is unbelievably trite but that is another OT rant). If he sings a song from his album, he will be criticized for promoting himself. I know his album could use the sales boost but that is not the way to go about it.

  • cakeygirl

llwd would be a pr disaster

  • Starr

I think the chances are good that “I Need to Know” will be used in a montage of the Haiti trip. If the Idol production team has been paying attention to Kris’s description of that song, they can see why it would be fitting. I agree with “Live Like We’re Dying” not being appropriate. The message is positive and I like the song, but I think this could not only be an opportunity to showcase other songs off of Kris’s album, but chances are people will respond more to…I don’t want to use “somber”, but you guys know what I mean.

“Send Me All Your Angels” is OK, I guess, but it doesn’t really have that sense of yearning in the song that “I Need to Know” or “Let It Rain” have.

I’m excited for Kris’s appearance on Idol next week. I’m glad he is going to Haiti with the UN Foundation. I hope this means they will really allow him to make substantial contributions while he is over there.

  • gulfluv

If the performance isn’t necessarily related to the Haiti/IGB part, then I imagine he will sing LLWD given that is his current single. And that would be fine. If it is actually a charity single or in conjunction with the Haiti footage then I’m sure it will be something different. I like the idea’s of INTK or SMAYA.

Whatever he sings, I’m super excited to see him on the show! I’m glad he is getting this chance to go to Haiti, I’m sure it means alot to him.

  • snsh

If he sings a song from his album, he will be criticized for promoting himself.

I doubt that would happen outside of particular circles.

  • Mtlfan

i’m late to this but here are some toughts.
Kudos to Kris for doing this!
    1) no cover please. He has an album to promote and it’s more than enough that he does this trip to Haiti to raise awereness
    2) i don’t think his performance and showing the Haiti footage/fund raising has to be related. If done in 2 segments, he can choose whatever he wants. Especially that there is no talk about a single being offered to raise funds. The press release mentions donations done through texting and online
    3) I heard mention of INTK. I like a lot that song however it’s not representative of the album so i’m not favoring it
    4) ‘send me all your angels’ is a good choice if the performance anf the Haiti thing is done in the same segment. Maybe a better choice would be ‘from the ashes’. Seems appropriate to me

Could we be most afraid of what will save us
Break down to find out what we’re really made of
If we’re standing on the edge
    Hold on when it crashes
Could we rise up from the ashes

  • amielee

that radio interview is so funny…i heart kris’ dry wit…

  • jayem

i think llwd can work if he plays a slower, more soulful version (waiting-on-the-world-to-change-esque) of it. trust me, kris would be able to pull that off like nothing.

  • Parabola

From an old Kelly Clarkson interview: http://www.elle.com/Pop-Culture/Cover-Shoots/Rebel-Yell/Kelly-Clarkson2

She then tells a story about Idol Gives Back, the special episodes of American Idol that aired in late April to raise money for Africa and charities at home. Her appearance marked her much anticipated return to the show that spawned her, singing with the likes of Annie Lennox and Celine Dion.

“My label wanted me to sing ‘Never Again,’” she says. “And I was like, To promote yourself on a charity event is beyond crass. People are starving and dying and I’m up there singing some bitter pop song? And believe me, everyone wanted me to sing it. Because they are jaded and they have no soul. Imagine sitting in a room full of people totally against you. Can’t they hear themselves speaking? Capitalize on AIDS? Are you kidding? Insulting an entire nation of people? I just refused.”

There’s a reason most artists sing covers on these charity telethon events. I get that LLWD is different in tone than NA by a long mile, but still, just no. It’s not like they won’t have him back to promote his own music some other time.

  • http://MJO judes

That’s great that Kris gets to go to Haiti & come back & share on idol to keep the awareness going of the plight of the Haitians!I really hope that Kris has been able to catch up on sleep though this week?
It will be terrific to see him on AI next Thursday.

  • Truthiness

    1) no cover please. He has an album to promote and it’s more than enough that he does this trip to Haiti to raise awereness

Yes, his being part of IGB should coincide with having to promote his album.

Kris is being asked back this early as part of IGB and specifically the special situation in Haiti. Which good job by IGB, AI and Kris Allen for doing that. Not to promote a single.

    2) i don’t think his performance and showing the Haiti footage/fund raising has to be related. If done in 2 segments, he can choose whatever he wants. Especially that there is no talk about a single being offered to raise funds. The press release mentions donations done through texting and online

To quote from the above article about this “Allen will perform and will share footage of his trip to raise awareness and funds that will benefit those in need via one of this year’s IDOL GIVES BACK beneficiaries, the UN Foundation.

During the show, viewers will be asked to support the efforts in Haiti by donating much-needed funds. Donations will be accepted online and via text-messaging, and proceeds will go to the IDOL GIVES BACK Foundation to help the UN Foundation and their work in Haiti.” Perhaps it’s just me, but it seems to me the performance and the images in Haiti and Kris sharing his experience going there, are all going to be tied together. And all tied to donating ot the UN’s efforts to help Haiti.

But ya know what? I’ve decided I’m wrong. Kris can perform his re-arranging magic on a peppy song about carpe diem with Living like one is dying in the title, that’s his single he’s trying to sell, and sing it in a downtempo enough way. I say they should do it. Seriously. I’ve changed my mind. I would really enjoy if the show did LLWD as part of this. I would find it really interesting on a variety of levels.

  • cakeygirl

    “live like we’re dy-ing” … o wait many have died….definately not appropriate

  • SarahP

i work in the humanitarian field and even though personally i dont like celebrity promoted causes (which i feel is at many times indulgent, take bono for instance)i know that many ordinary people connect with celebrities and its one of the most effective advocacy tools. so in a way i’m happy that kris is doing this and knowing him, i’m sure his intentions during the visit will be definitely genuine. but on the other hand, i really dont like IGB’s strategy of going to one country, giving some funds for a short term project, which may or may not benefit the people in the long run. anyways, i hope the United Nations Foundation does get to do some good work through this effort.

as for which single kris should be singing, i’m just glad i get to see him on big screen TV after months of watching his videos on my computer screen. i hope he gets to sing a new song, personally think it should be from the album, but i think after a trip to a devastated country and seeing people’s conditions there, promoting the album will not be kris’s top priority.

  • Jasper

HannaB4: Can’t believe Kris would sing a cover when he has his own album to promote.

But Kris isn’t going there to promote his album. He’s not going to do a concert. He’s going there to continue to bring awareness to the situation in Haiti through Idol Gives Back. And he’s working with the United Nations on this so I think this is more of an Idol Gives Back promo than a Kris Allen Album promo.

I agree that Man in the Mirror would be an appropriate song choice, even if it is a cover since I highly doubt this is to promote Kris the artist. He’s just their ambassador.

Bring it Back and I Need To Know are good choices, too.

  • vtu

I think it would be fine if Kris did sing something from his album, though I’m inclined to agree with those who think the tone of LLWD is wrong for this type of appearance. That said, I will be surprised if he doesn’t perform MITM. Thematically, it’s got the right tone, but it also has AI historical significance, since next week is the first elimination round, and last year, Kris performed MITM for his first elimination round. I can’t see the AI producers passing up a chance to use that sentimental connection, even if the appearance is supposed to be mainly about Idol Gives Back. So, while I personally would love it if Kris sang Send Me All Your Angels or I Need to Know next week, MITM is so perfect on so many levels that I’m guessing that’s what he’ll sing.

Perhaps it’s just me, but it seems to me the performance and the images in Haiti and Kris sharing his experience going there, are all going to be tied together. And all tied to donating ot the UN’s efforts to help Haiti.

truthiness, i think you’re right. I would be surprised that he sings LLWD. Maybe he’ll cover an existing single done to raise funds for Haiti. I think it would be bright to do so, if it’s possible, because it could also give a bump to the said single which would back the donations made on the show

  • Parabola

Who cares about what Kris sings when we can talk about how he’ll look when he performs? :) Mrs. Allen replied to some fan on Twitter who @replied to her about Kris needing to cut his hair and shave before coming back to sing because “they don’t let dirty hippies into the Kodak Theatre” (not that it matters, since next week’s show won’t be taping there, but you get the drift). According to Katy, Kris shaved today and she’s “working on the hair”. Someone hold Adam–didn’t he just say he liked Kris’s facial hair and his longer, luxurious locks (or whatever it was) in the Kradison interview? LOL, guess we’ll see if Kris sides with Adam or Katy next week!

Next week’s show is a results show — it is NOT IGB, even though there will be segment(s) about donating $$$. So Kris should be allowed to sing whatever song he wants to. It’s unclear whether his performance will be tied into his trip to Haiti or whether these are two separate things.

The people who appear on Idol do so to promote their music. Why shouldn’t Kris be allowed to do this? He isn’t going to do anything inappropriate.

I also work in humanitarian field (ie, I am both an optimist and something of a bleeding heart) and I think to say that he is not going there to promote his album is unrealistic and would not be smart of him. I’m not saying he’s not doing it to help Haiti (I have no doubt of this given his past humanitarian work), but regardless, he is also going to be seen as doing this for some self promotion (as all celebrities are seen to do). Since it will be seen that way as a result of his merely appearing on national TV, he should also promote the album. There is nothing wrong with it when profit motive and humanitarian motive meet on the same path. As a fan of his, I WANT him to promote the album so he can keep in the business, keep making music I like, and keep using his celebrity for good when its needed.

So, Kris, please sing one of your songs.

Parabola: You are a person after my own heart!!!

And yeah, I hope Kris finds a happy compromise: shave for Katy, keep the hair long for Adam!

I like the scruff and long hair. Makes him look older, not too teen Idol-ish.

Ha, that almost makes it sound like…well, never mind. :) But I doubt Kris could have imagined he’d end up in this sort of “dilemma” this time a year ago!

  • SarahP

kris has long locks? i thought his hair wasn’t curly! but as long as he wears that black sexy leather jacket of his, i’m cool!

  • Ex-lurker

Song choice? I vote for the Reggae version of “No Boundaries” or maybe even a Reggae version of LLWD.

  • justjude

I guess it depends on who this song is really for….Americans or
the haitians! America (Man in the Mirror)apppealing to our better
nature. Haitians (many devout catholics)would like Send Me All your Angels or In The Arms of An Angel also appropriate for hurting or gieving people. While I think From the Ashes is beautiful,it sounds more desperate than hopeful? JMO!

  • jmom376

Kris fans… Saw this on Twitter… the american idol website used LIFETIME for the top 24 video montage. http://bit.ly/duZudg. I just watched it and it is perfect for the montage. I like how AI really seems to be behind Kris.

BTW: I think from the ashes might be a really good song for this. But I am sure I will not be disappointed in anything that he decides to perform.

I keep thinking of how great that old chestnut, “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, sounded when sung by Mary J. Blige and Andrea Bocelli at the Grammys, and “I’ll Stand By You” by Carrie U. for a past IGB. Personally would like to see Kris do a good cover that could also be a charity single, the way they did. He’s skilled at arranging and IMO would be better than promoting his own stuff.

While I am the one who originally suggested “Send Me All Your Angels”, on a purely selfish note, I would love for him to do the version of MITM that he has been doing in live performances so I can have a copy of it on my ipod. I absolutely LOVE it as much (maybe more) than the original.

  • Mtlfan

while he performs and if there is caption on the screen asking for donations, the song has to be appropriate!

  • babybelle32

I love Kris’ version(s) of “Man in the Mirror” and it’s one of the songs that I wanted him to perform during Idols Give Back, but I think “I Need To Know” would bring him more attention. I know that getting Kris attention isn’t the point of the performance, but I have a feeling that if he sings “I Need To Know” that he will get attention from people outside of the idol bubble, and I can even see more than a few stations playing the song.

Just listened to this interview. This has to be one of my favorite radio interviews. The DJ knew her stuff, and asked interesting questions. Kris was so funny and sweet as usual. He watched curling. Oh, Kris I didn’t think I could love you any more.

AS for the song next week,I think Send me Your Angels is an amazing idea. And releasing it as a charity single, yes, yes, yes!!!

ITA… that would be very good!

Oh gosh, I haven’t been watching this season of AI but I will totally watch next week’s episode just for Kris. Nice to hear that he can contribute in the relief efforts. Wonder whether he will record a theme song for the Idol Giveback this year. I hope he can sing “Imagine” or “Hallelujah”.

  • hoosiermama

Wow. This trip/performance came up a lot quicker than we were led to believe. “Sometime in March” has become this weekend–things do change quickly in the Idol world!! But, so glad that Kris’ schedule is flexible enough to allow him to participate since he is the perfect spokesperson for the job. And working with the UN Foundation adds so much credibility to the trip. I’m so happy for him (and proud of him, too!)!

As for the song choice, I will always LOVE his MITM cover, but after hearing so many of this year’s contestants sing it this week, I wonder if it would have the same impact on the Idol viewers hearing it again? I’m not going to speculate since I also trust Kris to pick the right song.

I hope Kris cut his hair or we will be seeing lots of footage with him in a beanie since I doubt he’ll be able to keep the longer hair looking good while in Haiti! Shaving today >> a little bit of stubble growing in this weekend will look good, though.

Re the radio interview: This was a good one. I like that Kris is “excited” to come back on the show and not really nervous about it. I’m excited, too!

  • sunny2

I hope he can sing “Imagine” or “Hallelujah”<blockquote

It would be great to hear Kris sing either one of these songs, but these songs are already associated with previous idols. David A is known for singing Imagine, and Jason Castro for Hallelujah. Both performances were best of the season for each of these guys.

  • Ratna12

I’m so excited for Kris to be given this opportunity. I hope he’ll have a safe flight and be safe there. To be asked by Simon Fuller and associated w/ the UN really bodes well for him. And seeing all his Ford commercials, I’m glad that he is treated well by AI.

The result show on Thursday should be good also since I don’t think the winner came out that early before. All those 12 guitar players (that I know of) out of 24 people will see the one guitar player that won it all. Should be encouraging I think that it could be done against the ones with stronger voice.

Wrote an e-mail yesterday to Wal-Mart corporate headquarters in Arkansas (sent through their website) suggesting they promote their native son (Kris) and do some fund raising for Haiti – such as for every Kris Allen album that is sold they give $ 1.00 to the relief effort. Who knows if they’ll even consider it, but I figured it didn’t hurt to ask.
