Kris Allen just twittered this photo of himself from London, crossing the Beatles’ iconic Abbey Road.

Kris has been in the UK all week recording tracks with Eg White (Adele, Duffy) and   Andrew Frampton and Steve Kipner (the Script) for his upcoming album, due to be released November 17.

Kris dodged motorists to capture the moment.   He captioned the photo, “Man we couldn’t get this best picture but this is abbey road! Traffic will not stop for anything in London.”

Ha. Motorists who have to drive that road are probably driven crazy by tourists on a daily basis. Still, very cool photo…

Awesome. I’m sure that was cool for someone who is as big a Beatles fanboy as Kris is!

  • FifthHouseSun

Very sweet pic. But…is that his lucky shirt or something? He sure likes to wear it. (Maybe since the Union Jack one is on Ebay…)

    Yup.

There are only 6 people maybe 7 watching Kris do this?

  • fanaround

I think those people watching have no idea who he is. Some of my family used to live nearby and people do this all day long :)

  • CathyMK

Great photo! It must be such a thrill for Kris to be in London working on a major label record.

There are only 4 people maybe six watching him do this?

Why would he have an audience for crossing the street? It’s London, they’re used to celebrities, anyway.

  • washpd

Yeah, I think London works similarly to NYC. Celebrities walk around there all the time without people paying them much mind. And Kris really isn’t much of a celebrity in England at this point–don’t know why he would be.

  • colette

In fact, Abbey Road Studio has a live photo-cam on their site so you can watch the traffic, the tourists, whatever 24/7. It’s a little OCD, but for rabid Beatlemaniancs (including moi) ODC behavior is a lifelong pursuit….

Someone PLEASE buy that man a new shirt!

  • colette

oh, and by the way: my spouse wears his favorite shirts until they fall of his body in shreds (though I try to sneak them to the garbage first).

is there anyone else here who just kinda loves a guy who couldn’t care less what shirt he wears? who doesn’t primp at the mirror, or care if he’s stylish? who is built for comfort, not for flash?

I’m not saying I also don’t love me some suave lookers. I’ll take George Clooney in a suit any day. But there’s something so refreshingly uncanned and real about Kris, and his indifference to fashion trends is kinda cool for me…..

  • kmra

I love that we know that shirt :)

  • alxsavage

How cool! I would do exactly the same thing if I could.

He must really love that shirt.

  • sr4mjc

I have a picture of me there, it’s tough to get a good shot with all the traffic! I had to walk back and forth a few times to get a decent pic.

  • cookcricket

I personally think that Kris wearing the purple plaid while crossing Abbey Road is pure ‘classic’ Kris Allen. :D Love it!!!! Besides I’m sure this guy has music, not clothes, on his mind! That probable fact makes me oh so happy!!! Woot!

I said this in the Kris is the real deal thread, re the pic. :)

I think people who work/live around Abbey Road are used to people taking this type of photo, so don’t pay much attention to anyone who does it.

Kris obviously isn’t going to change his look anytime soon (if ever). He’s comfortable in jeans and tee shirts or plaid button downs. He looks like what he is — a 24-year-old guy. He really doesn’t care about fashion very much. And he is one of those lucky naturally good-looking people who likely only has to spend a few minutes a day fussing around in the bathroom with product to look great.

  • becausehelives

That shirt has got to be his absolute favorite in the world. good that he has time to look around town. I wonder if it’s his first time in London.

  • suebrody

I liked when Kris wore a black t-shirt for the Ford Shareholders Concert (I think it was there). Plaid is fine, but more subdued would do it for me.

Must have been a thrill for Kris.

That was fun to watch – one guy “mooned”.

  • AndyInLondon

I’m an American who lives in London these days (about a 10 minute walk from this crossing), and definitely a Kradam fan (though really mostly Adam). You’re right — people do this ALL DAY LONG at that crossing, and locals find it funny but annoying, as it really looks no different than tons of other crossings around London, and at least a dozen up and down Abbey Rd. Still, they just roll their eyes and move on along. The impulse to take the pic there is natural, though, and especially for Kris, having made such a big hit with the fans on the Idol tour with his cover of “Hey, Jude.”

    Go Kris – enjoy!

Are comfort and flash mutually exclusive? ;-)

I dunno, I like my guy to put some effort into looking nice, and he does. And trust me, his attire is still quite comfy.

What would we say if a woman wore the same shirt day-in and day-out? I can just imagine all the negative comments. I guess there is really a double-standard when it comes to men and women dressing-standards.

ETA: Cute photo of Kris, by the way. :-)

  • KathyE

I wonder if it has to do with going on mission trips. My daughter went on one and came back with a whole new attitude toward material possessions. She realized she didn’t need so many shoes.

I haven’t really seen Kris fans complaining about him not looking nice. Also, I agree there is a total double standard when it comes to men and women on this issue, but, I don’t think the appropriate response is to apply the ridiculous standard we’re applying to women to men, but rather, that people should leave women alone if they do the same thing.

I wonder if it has to do with going on mission trips. My daughter went on one and came back with a whole new attitude toward material possessions. She realized she didn’t need so many shoes.

It would not surprise me if this were the case. Kris has never seemed to be someone who is all that concerned about material possessions. I mean, he gave away his prized guitar to a landmine victim on one of his mission trips. And, when people asked him after he won what the first big thing he was going to buy was, he couldn’t even name anything.

    You said it.

I really like Kris’s style of dressing, it suits him. The only drawback in him wearing the same plaid over and over again are the photo opportunities might decrease. Why would a magazine/internet site that is not invested in Idol want to put pictures of him wearing the same clothes he’s already been photographed in on their site again? It just starts to look like old pictures being recycled from previous events and they lose their impact. Having said that, I think when he actually starts doing more promotion the patterns and colors of the plaid will change (hopefully). Though did he wear the same shirt for both GMA and the Boston rooftop concert?

Kris looks adorable. I wonder if Katy went along to London? I hope so. I’d like to think the two of them got a nice trip out of this. I can see the two of them eating fish and chips out of newspaper on the street. Visiting the Rosetta Stone at the British Museum. Going to a show in the West End.

Oh, no, wait. That’s ME. :-)

Re: the shirt. I live with a man who is very picky about his clothes, but uncomfortable if I dress him up. He can look very nice, but he will only wear clothes he’s comfy in. Which means I buy him about ten of the same shirt or the same jeans. Because he will always grab the one that’s familiar that somebody once told him looked nice on him. Like Old Faithful or something. I really think it’s because he thinks he doesn’t know how to dress, so he always goes with the sure thing.

I guess I gave up bothering about it, oh, 25 years ago or so. For the first five years of my marriage, I hassled my husband about his clothes and tried to get him to dress the way I wanted him to. For the last 25, no. It just made him hyper and upset about his wardrobe, and then he really looked awkward in whatever he was wearing. Now he wears pretty much the same thing every day, and he looks cute, and I leave him alone.

He had a friend who liked blue t-shirts, and would wear one till it died, and then he would find a new TCBT (the current blue T) and wear it over and over and over, too, till it died. I think Jerry Seinfeld had a comedy routine around something similar, only his fave was yellow. He called it Golden Boy.

I think that’s pretty common for guys who don’t care about clothes. And it doesn’t bother me one tiny bit about Kris or his favorite shirts. He likes it, somebody probably told him it was really cute on him when he wore it the first time, and now he’s going to grab it every time he needs a sure thing. He may have ten of the same shirt, for all we know.

Has anyone gotten their current issue of Rolling Stone? There’s a review of LLWD in it. They gave Kris’ single 3 stars’ ¦

Is this considered good, bad or ok? Does it say anything besides a rating?

  • tiger92

It’s not like you have to have that much time or money to add to your wardrobe if you are a guy. Plaid is in. Jeans have always been in. If GAP or Am. Eagle is too expensive, go to Old Navy or Target. Plaid shirts and jeans are in abundance. A couple hundred dollars can get you more jeans and plaid shirts to put in the rotation.

Men do have it easy…lucky bastards.

From RS Magazine review of “Live Like We’re Dying”:

“Allen’s proper first single is just what his fans wanted when they got this year’s cringe-worth Idol coronation song, “No Boundaries”. A cover of Irish pop trio the Script, the tune has a soul-rock vibe that suits Allen’s vocal range; he should stick with this kind of stuff.” Erica Futterman.

I agree, it would be simpler. But I’m also not in a career that requires publicity to survive or photographers to want to capture my picture.

OK, I have to admit — the first thing I thought was “cool” and then immediately after that –

    NOT THAT SHIRT — AGAIN.

Kris, there are great stores in London. Next break you have, just go shopping!!

  • girlygirl

Kris really doesn’t have time to go shopping. And I’m pretty sure Katy didn’t go to London with him, because he has like no free time to do touristy stuff with her.

Maybe you guys will prefer this new picture of Kris (from his Facebook page). Absolutely gorgeous — might make a nice album cover?

I will girlygirl!!! I don’t think it would be ‘out there’ if it were the cover photo, but Jive would be doing a good thing if they used it! Very, very nice!!!

  • tiger92

Okay, I’ll comment. That’s the best picture I’ve ever seen of Kris. He looks more like a man, instead of a teen or college kid. See…less plaid can be a good thing.

    And a new shirt.

  • colette

very, very nice shot girlygirl — “tender dog” incarnate

RS uses a five-star system, but very VERY few albums get all of ‘em. The most recent one was the Beatles Stereo remasters, so that’s where the bar is — unreachable for most mortals!

Considering that David Cook got 2 1/2 stars for the review of his first album, and Jay-Z got 3 for his latest, I think it’s a respectable if not huge vote of confidence for Kris.

the main thing, though, is the album. and, dammit, the follow through from your record company (should they deign to give you some support)….

  • KathyE

It’s the man in the Mirror! Beautiful picture!!! I love the expression on his face.

  • snlw

About the new Kris’s photo, can it be the cover for his next single ‘I need to know’ ? Just wishing thinking’ ¦ :)

  • Michelle

Beautiful pic, and lol yeah, KathyE, Kris in the Mirror :D

I really don’t care if Kris likes to wear his favorite plaid shirt as long as it’s clean :)

Pretty nice he was able to get a pic crossing Abbey Road!

EW also reviewed LLWD in their print edition, and gave it a grade of A-.

  • cookcricket

Album title: ‘Kris Allen, Man in the Mirror’

    Picture: the one posted!!!

What do you all think? Too much to ask, wish for? Yeah, I know. :)

cookcricket, they surprised me by choosing a decent (in fact, excellent) first single for once, so maybe they will actually manage an attractive album cover too! stranger things have happened!

And, I always say “this is the most gorgeous Kris pic” and then a new one comes along. It’s like a gift that keeps on giving :D I want to see more of this shoot though.

I just gotta say, when I studied abroad in London, I lived about 4 blocks from where Kris is walking… and once got utterly lost trying to find it (it’s not Abbey Road all the way, the road switches names).

Very cool! Kris is a lucky guy to get to experience a place like that, especially since he loves the Beatles so much.

  • cookcricket

  • Ladyguard

Oh and that RS review is good ‘” I believe they rate on a 4 star system ‘” so 3 out of 4 stars is nice.

Their ratings on the cds is out of a 5 star system.

  • FifthHouseSun

Absolutely gorgeous ‘” might make a nice album cover?

girlygirl, album cover was my second thought. Right after the first, instant, Whoa! Hadn’t ever seen such a shot of Kris.

And it’s from some kind of shoot. And the “Man in the Mirror” reference — and good catch, all — is set up. And everything about the shot screams “‘album”. Could be inserts, or added material, or cover. Look at that hair. That’s pro styling. He has never achieved that kind of softly tousled beckoning before. And the mellow lighting. And color coordination. And his lips are poutier and poufier and the nose a little more soap opera star than usual.

And, no this is not over-investment. Not in that risk program with Kris. It’s a ten second sweep over. This kind of ridiculousness is what’s discussed in meetings. Can we get the forearm hairs? Yeah but we may have to lose the hands? But he has great hands. Yeah but we think the forearms may say “not a kid” more…

OTOH, could be a lucky shot in a hotel room. (Yes, that’s a straight line, too.) But doubt it.

  • ccagain

Kris does not need to copy anything else that was done “across the pond.”

  • cookcricket

My husband has always told me that anything 3 stars and above is good from RS. And yes, as someone has mentioned above a 5 star rating is extremely rare, few and far between. They call it classic.

  • Tony

Kris. I love ya man, but c’mon dude. That shirt is becoming more popular than you are.

But in a way, that’s kinda why I like Kris: he doesn’t have that celeb mentality; down-to-earth kinda guy.

girlygirl…This is the first opportunity I’m getting to see the pic, and I have to say…really breathtaking. The best picture I’ve ever seen of Kris. Looks like it would be right at home in a music video, with the lighting – it’s his reflection in the mirror, yes? Very creative, with an almost ethereal quality.

The print edition of Entertainment Weekly (not Michael Slezak, BTW) reviewed Kris’ single, and gave it an A-minus. That was the highest gradeof any of the singles they reviewed in the issue — Carrie Underwood’s new single also got an A-minus. I’ve been in London over 50 times and never done this — it always seemed too “touristy” to me. But I am so pleased that Kris did it because it clearly was important to him and more that just another travel photo.

  • summersnow

How I wish Kris can shoot his music video with him walking down the busy streets of London or at least have his album cover shot there. That will be so cool!

So glad that he’s collaborating with talents in the UK. I always think that they have some of the best talents there.

  • tripp_ncwy

Somehow a rumor got started that Kris would be singing the national anthem at his former college, The Univiversity of Central Arkansas at today’s game. I knew it couldn’t be correct because he was in London. Kris’s mom sent out a tweet to clear things up.

    Tweet from Kim Allen:
Can’t wait to hear my baby boy sing in the National Anthem tomorrow at the UCA game. Those Allen boys sure can sing!

It turns out Kris’s little brother Daniel will be the one performing at the game. It’s funny that many people mistake Kris for being the younger brother because Daniel looks so much older.

  • Truthiness

I love that Kris got to do the tourist pose on the Abbey Road crosswalk. I would if I had the chance.

But I really do hate that shirt at this point. No, I don’t care if this indicates what a wonderful human being Kris is that he doesn’t care about the way he looks, I care that I am tired of seeing him in that particular shirt for so many things. I’m not asking him to change who he is or buy tons more clothes. Maybe just rotate the plaids more, that’s it. Though yes, my preference would be seeing him in more solids, because I think his red one with the Relly’s thing, his creme one for the hawt new pic on Facebook and his black tee at Ford’s day, show he looks really good in solids.

  • ShariG

Lookin’ good! And, how fun for Kris to be in London. This might have been posted, but there is a cute little interview with Michael Slezak on Realite. He comes a bit further in the segment, but here is the website. http://bit.ly/KBJR7

  • ShariG

There is so much on the web about Kris since the release of his first single. Wish there was more of it here on MJs, but it is not too hard to find by just searching Kris Allen.
