Sadly, free ‘aint free. Especially in states like California and NY. That 35K car is ‘income’  and must be reported as such. Even though you might be able to buy the car for, say, 25K, Ford will report the worth at a vastly inflated rate-say 40K, and Adam and Kris will be on the hook for about 50% of its worth. Given the amount each is making this year, they will probably both be advised to donate the cars for the deduction, rather then have it as a boost to their income.

That is one of the great things about Canada, no taxes on lottery winnings or contest prizes...now you are going to be taxed on any income the lottery winnings generate but then again you guys get to write off your mortgage interest, that would be much better for most Canadians.
