Update: Undercooked was there. Here’s what she had to say about the event:

Neither one of the guys was actually picking up the car today. The PR gal didn’t know when they were actually going to get them. This was just a key ceremony. She also didn’t know if Adam paid the price difference between the two cars, which was about $7,000. Kris’s 2010 Fusion Hybrid sticker price about $31,000. Adam’s Fort Mustang GT – Sticker Price was $38,000.

Remember those Ford Hybrid car keys Kris Allen and Adam Lambert were presented at the finale (by Season 7 winner David Cook) as reward for making the Top 2?

Kris and Adam were presented with their new cars in Los Angeles, in front of press and photographers today.

One minor adjustment–Adam Lambert went for a convertible Mustang instead of the Hybrid. Can’t say that I blame him…

Even more photos after the JUMP…

    Fierce!!!!!!

  • Ashley

hot guys with hot cars…hell yeah!

  • suebrody

Good luck with the paparazzi now, Adam. :P

  • BeckyMD

One add’l good thing of a convertible is that it’s easier to get camera shots of the driver, proved by there is no pic of Kris in his Hybrid.

  • girlygirl

Both guys look like they just rolled out of bed and threw on the first thing they saw in their closet in order to do this appearance. And yet they still both look hot. Ok — that’s not fair!

I wonder when they actually get the cars. They can’t take them on tour with them — maybe once the tour ends?

  • wand3rful

i recall kris saying in interviews he tries to keep it green and katy wanted a hybrid…..happy wife, happy life :)

  • girlygirl

    BeckyMD

There are some shots of Kris in his hybrid on the host site for these photos. He has to have the driver’s door open so they can get his pic though.

That’s a benefit to picking the hybrid over the Mustang — much harder for people to see who is driving = less paparazzi shots!

Actually, there are fotos of Kris in his car. MJ just didn’t post it. Though, I’ll admit there are more pics of Adam in his car.

  • washpd

Good for Kris–keeping it green and saving on gas money!

I am a proud Mustang Convertible owner myself, even if mine is 10 years old. I still love my baby, but, I’d probably pick the Fusion at this point in my life.

They both do look like they had late nights, and just kind of showered and threw on some clothes. Which is to say that they both still look hot as hell. :)

I never thought I would see in Adam in a trucker hat, though.

  • Squirrely

    that mustang is hot!

ETA: This is really awesome for these guys – to get so much so quickly. I hope it lasts for them.

That’s problly why Adam picked that trucker hat and glasses.

But notice that it is all blingy with rhinestones! LOL

  • GeminiDolly

Ewww @ Adam’s hat. Yay @ his new mustang.

  • jack5791

Completely agree! It’s funny that they each picked cars that you would think they would. :)

  • Ashley

im not really feeling the trucker hat, but the guy under it is so great it don’t even matter lol.

Kris…adorable as always, i would take either of their cars….

personally i would prefer the mustang tho lol

  • deshae78

Adam is losing too much weight. I hope he doesn’t turn into a typical Hollywood anorexic…….not attractive, & he must be even thinner in real life (as photos add some weight).

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

The Mustang is such a crap car though, all looks and no substance. It’s nothing but cheep plastic on the inside and it corners like a truck with it’s constant under steer. It has very little grip at high speed, and it’s all torque. You put your foot on that pedal and the tires will spin under you. The body is too light and the traction control is nearly non-existent. It really is a lousy drive at high speed. It’s a little insane as a car actually.

The fusion, I haven’t driven, but It’s a ford, so it can’t be that good either.

And the Baseball cap not working for me at all. But he looks happy and that’s OK I guess.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

Hi everyone, I was actually there. The problem was that they presented both Adam and Kris with their cars at the SAME time. I only got pics of Adam in his car.

Also, they both looked tired and never took off their sunglasses. They didnt talk to the crowd much as they were there truly for the press event. They went into a small office and did press inteviews. Both seem in good spirits, happy, just low energy.

I got some so so pics but the ones MJ posted are better. I just got a new camera and am trying to figure out how to use it.

I will say Adam was very nice to all of us taking pics. He made sure to keep turning so we could all get shots.

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

Ewww @ Adam’s hat. Yay @ his new mustang.

He got that hat from the Ford specialty auto parts shop that morning. That is the shop that does the PIMP MY RIDE show for MTV.

I was about to say. They are both Fords, so most likely neither one will last long. lol

Personally, I would have went with the Mustang myself. :) Especially if I lived in California where the weather is nice.

  • unique28v

    LOL.

  • girlygirl

Not surprised they look tired. I’m pooped, and all I did was go to the concert last night and cheer! I always laugh when people talk about how glamorous it is to be a musician or actor — in most cases, it’s 90-95% dedication/hard work and 5-10% glamour!

  • smartcookie

I think convertibles are a pain the butt. It’s either too cold to have the top down or you’re getting sunburn and making a major mess of your hair. (Sorry — husband loves convertibles. After one particular time in Phoenix when we got stuck in bad traffic with the top down and we were just broiling out there… I get my way on the No Convertibles issue. Score!)

OTOH, my dad was a huge Ford fan and always had classic Mustangs in pieces in the garage. I drove a 66 Mustang when I first got my license. So I will always have a soft spot for Mustangs.

Right now, I think I would take the Fusion. Or ask for the Ford hybrid small SUV. Escape? Maybe they’re not making that one anymore.

  • JOJOSIE

At least the goverment (us) didn’t have to pay for these cars as Ford didn’t have to get bailed out, so I respect them for that. I would probably buy a Fusion now if I decide to trade my current car in, but think Adam got what’s best for him. Happy for both of them.

Not having had an American Car since my first car (a bronze and black Mercury Cougar V8) I can totally understand your comments. But I do remember my little bros yellow ’64 Mustang (bought used) and the looks he got driving that thing.

Besides in LA you barely get the car out of 3rd gear most of the time…and after a few weeks of LA the car will have its dings and scratches (or have Britney, Paris and Lindsay stopped driving).

I expect Adam (I can dream about his future) ending up with a Harley for those warm California nights…and a Porsche and a Ferrari parked in his driveway.

  • brextra

    Adam looks SKINNY here!

I kind of like the hat. It’s obviously not his typical look, but it’s cute.

  • LindaT

I had a Mustang several years ago, and I have to say, I thought that it was a really fun car to drive. That said, Sunn is right about the interior — there was a lot of cheap-looking plastic. I was glad that I was leasing the car, because after only 3 years, the interior was starting to look worn (and I take really good care of my cars). It sounds like Adam is getting an upgraded version, so hopefully the Mustang will hold up better for him than it did for me.

All things considered, I prefer BMWs … but they don’t sponsor AI!

  • Q3

IMO Adam should be driving a Lamborghini Murcielago — but I don’t think Ford is going to give him one!!

Since it needs to be a Ford. First of all (trying to think like Adam) it’s black and silver : ) and a convertable!

The Mustang GT is 3,572 lbs. — that isn’t a light car.

Adam got the new 2010 GT Premium, Ford’s new “muscle car”.

It has 315 hp, 4.6 liter V-8 engine, 5 speed automatic. They re-engineered the suspension, it has an updated body, sculpted sheet metal, enhanced aerodynamic body, and a more refined interior cabin. Furthermore, the GT trim is upgraded For a $35K car, it’s not bad. Here’s the punchline of Edmonds’ review:

    Track Testing
Regardless of its shortcomings, this car is fast. In fact, this is the quickest, best handling and best stopping normally aspirated Mustang we’ve ever tested. Plus, it lays two big patches of Italian rubber if you shift 2nd gear like you’re trying to tear the shifter from the fancy new console. We like that.

Making that power is essentially the same engine package that powered the 2009 Ford Mustang Bullitt. To the same old 4.6-liter DOHC V8, Ford has added a cold-air intake plus a reprogrammed ECU that bumps the redline to 6,500 rpm. That same computer also has two different fuel programs: for regular and premium gas. Peak output is 315 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 325 pound-feet of torque at 4,250 rpm, just like the Bullitt.

When we arrived at our test track with the tank filled with premium and the traction and stability control systems off, the Mustang hit 60 mph in 5.2 seconds (4.9 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip), and covered the quarter-mile in 13.5 seconds at 102.9 mph. That’s impressive for a car that weighs 3,572 pounds. In the slalom, this Mustang with its Track Pack hardware recorded a speed of 68.4 mph, then circled the skid pad at an eyebrow-raising 0.91g. It also stopped from 60 mph in just 107 feet.

A Good Reason To Buy American
How do those numbers compare to the performance of the rivals of the 2010 Ford Mustang GT? They kick ass.

  • Q3

By the way ‘” what is on Adam’s hat?

    GAS – Galpin Auto Sports

    http://www.galpinautosports.com/news.php

One of the Ford guys this morning told me Adam got that hat today from their Auto Sports Shop. You can see the logo from the link.

  • BootStar

Isn’t that Mustang a lot more expensive than the Fusion Hybrid?

The “2010 Ford Mustang GT Convertible Premium” retails for like $35K, doesn’t it? I can’t imagine a Fusion, even the Hybrid version, costs that much.

Maybe Adam paid for the upgrade like he did with his wardrobe allowance?

  • jammasta

I also like Adam’s hat. Shows a different side of him.

But I would’ve gone with Kris’s car. Cool for his wife, I remember him saying she’s really excited about it.

I looked at the sticker prices when I was shooting the cars. The mustang was over $38,000 and the Fusion was over $31,000. I ask the Ford PR lady if Adam had to pay the difference and she said she didn’t know. But $7,000 for these guys isn’t that much money. Maybe that is what Adam charged Ford for wearing that Galpin Auto Sports cap?

  • Adamdebomb

Sadly, free ‘aint free. Especially in states like California and NY. That 35K car is “income” and must be reported as such. Even though you might be able to buy the car for, say, 25K, Ford will report the worth at a vastly inflated rate-say 40K, and Adam and Kris will be on the hook for about 50% of its worth. Given the amount each is making this year, they will probably both be advised to donate the cars for the deduction, rather then have it as a boost to their income.

  • girlygirl

I read in some interview that the car Kris was driving before Idol was like 15 years old and nothing on the dashboard worked, including the gas gauge. Evidently this caused him to run out of gas more than a few times while driving around Arkansas.

So any car would probably be an upgrade from that. Not to mention, hey, it’s free (I think — or do he and Adam have to pay tax& licenses and whatnot)

I think Adam was driving some semi-junker as well prior to all this happening.

  • BootStar

Maybe that is what Adam charged Ford for wearing that Galpin Auto Sports cap?

Well, that would explain his wearing that fugly hat, LOL! (Although it kind of goes with that hideous denim vest he wears on tour. I hope it turns out the tour stylists made him wear that, because it is beyond hideous. Fortunately for Adam, he can get away with it.)

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

A Mucielago in LA traffic?! you’d have two de-carbonize the engine every month. That car needs an autostrad.

Also, it’s light in comparison to the traction control and the grip in that car. It’s entirely weighted wrong. which makes it’s wild and uncontrollable at higher speeds. They’ve given that car a monster engine with more torque than power and more speed than control.

Honestly forget the specs, it’s a crap car. To make it simple, they tried to build a power sport’s car and they ended up building a hotrod.

  • BeckyMD

I think Adam was driving some semi-junker as well prior to all this happening.

I think so too. Adam’s mom said she sometime needed to send him some grocery giftcards so that he wouldn’t starve. I noticed she mention WholeFood giftcard and found it’s kinda funny. From starving to WholeFood is not a small leap.

And I believe with won prizes/gifts the upfront sales tax is out of the pocket of the recipient too. So you are right ‘free’ doesn’t always mean ‘free’.

  • Kirsten

Ugh! Where is the fun in driving a sports car with an automatic transmission? Gah! That’s almost sacriligeous. LOL. It would be like Adam doing WLL with a Muzak arrangement.

Yes, I know but he would look good in it!! A car is an accessory in West LA anyway!

I think they are actually trying to compete with the Camero – they lag behind GM is the US muscle car market — and IMO they failed. As far as I know, this is a North America only model. But I don’t know what other Ford he could have picked that is better than the Mustang.

My guess is Adam really doesn’t know much, or care much, about cars. I think he probably wanted to get a convertible — and the Mustang is the only option in a US Ford.

One of the Ford guys this morning told me Adam got that hat today from their Auto Sports Shop. You can see the logo from the link.

Knowing that — I forgive Adam for wearing that hat.

  • Tess

OK, so you add $40,000 on to Adam and Kris income this year for tax purposes. Now considering both of the Davids made a million plus their first year….do you think the 40 grand is going to add a lot of tax dollars?

  • clearone

I love the ballcap on Adam! Very casual and looks great! All I see is that smile anyhow.

Adam may think the convertible is cool now but once the paparazzi start chasing him around when he’s driving with the roof down, he might wish he’d chosen something like Kris got. Kris’s car looks very sporty! I think I prefer the look of it to that of the Mustang.

  • Susan M.

I’ve driven the Fusion and I have to tell you, it’s a nice car ‘“  loaded with extras and I have a Prius. I was very impressed. How long it will last without issues? Totally another story.

Yeah, I’m in agreement with the convertibles sound better than they are argument. We know how Adam is with his hair and WTF? His skin will freckle and burn to a crisp! Ah well, I guess we all have to make that mistake once in our life.

What I really want to know is what Adam is doing with those combat boots on when it is hotter than the Seven Circles of Hell in SoCal right now.

And BB, I thought we talked about those glasses …

Anywho, too bad Ford discontinued their Thunderbird a couple of years ago. That would have been a suitable option to the Mustang for Adam. I had a beautiful one that drove very well (and I’d not had an American made car since I was 16 — and no, I won’t say how many years that had been lol) and had two toned leather interior. Also, soft and hard top. :-)

  • Mtlfan

Ugh! Where is the fun in driving a sports car with an automatic transmission?

    wow! Agree with that!
My last car was a sport car but when I’ll change it’s going to be an hybrid for sure (people need to be eco-friendly). Not sure to buy a Ford though unless they built up a reputation.

But I can understand Adam .. the mustang has a totally killer look :)

  • Natasha

Lmao at Adam’s trucker hat. Bed head, perhaps? Sounds like they picked the right cars for themselves.

  • HappyDaisy

Casual observers sometimes have outdated misconceptions about Ford. The current quality data for Ford vehicles are pretty impressive. Just one example at the link. It’s neat that Ford is one of the sponsors of American Idol and it’s cool that Kris now has a Fusion hybrid and Adam a Mustang. Go Idols! Go Ford!

I always wanted a convertible until I was a passenger in my sister’s convertible on the highway for one hour and my hair was a rats nest on arrival to our destination. Sun roof babies, the best of both worlds.

Ford starting making major changes before the economy starting tanking which is why they didn’t need a bailout. Owned a Ford Probe once, pretty car, race car handling but constant little problems that meant spending too much time at the dealership. Got rid of it before the warranty expired. But I have to admit the new models look impressive. I have to say I am a GM girl who has tremendous luck with all my GM product, knock on wood.

  • mandabutter

Sooo, if people feel a slight twitch because Adam chose the less eco-friendly car, HE RECYCLES OUTFITS!!! I’m sure that’s not wasteful, and hey, it saves him moolah.

  • lavender1960

Adam’s sunglasses look very Elvis- y.

That is one of the great things about Canada, no taxes on lottery winnings or contest prizes…now you are going to be taxed on any income the lottery winnings generate but then again you guys get to write off your mortgage interest, that would be much better for most Canadians.

Doesn’t Ford still make the Thunderbird – I thought they had a newer version that was pretty cool looking – visions of American Graffitti flashing back….

  • mandabutter

I think he shares clothes with Allison I. too because, slight me if i’m wrong, but I’m pretty sure they swapped the blue checkered long sleeve button down shirt. (or they shopped together and got duplicates in their respective sizes, Adam is much taller) Adam wore it during backstage/mansion interviews and Allison wore it during one of the Result nights. And, I’m showing my fan-tardness here, Adam’s shirt that he wore during the 20/20 interview, black and grey stripes is similar if not the exact same sweatershirt worn by Allison during her Yahoo interview and “DSB” Press day.

so off-topic, but we need a fashion thread for all the idols. maybe post-idol and tour fashion…

  • wiccagirl2009

Adam did say in one of his interviews before that he will recycle more outfits. He just feels that given then times, it is wasteful not to recycle. I guess he hasn’t really imbibed Hollywood totally.

David Cook gave his Ford car that he received to his Dad. That might be the reason. If I’m not mistaken he later bought a Lexus for himself. I’m thinking Adam may do the same and give it either to his Mom or to Neil.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I don’t think giving a car to family members will gain anyone a deduction with the IRS. It would probably have to be a real charitable organization.

I hear Carrie U still drives her car that she won in season one. :-)

  • Jhoy2theworld

Adam looks too skinny in the pictures.

But leave it to him to choose a Mustang convertible. I totally see him with a Mustang and not a hybrid.

  • druzilla

Obviously the “Green” marketing myth has caused people to neglect that hybrids only run on the electric engine in certain conditions. There’s also the hybrid battery disposal to consider.

Still, I hope the car does well for Kris & family.

I am a little concerned with the WINNER getting a car worth $7K less, however.

  • ShariG

This sounds about right doesn’t it?. Adam said he entered AI to get noticed and the Mustang convertible will be showier so a perfect match for him. Kris said he just wanted a chance to have a career in music. The Fusion seems to be more about function and performance so it should suit him fine. What a nice perk for both of them.
