There will be very little unintentional humor in these interviews with the Idols on Larry King Live tonight, as Ryan Seacrest steps in for Larry to interview Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Paula Abdul and the rest of the Top 10.

Part 2 of the interviews airs on Monday night…

After the Jump, watch interviews with Kris Allen and Adam Lambert.

What I found the most interesting about this interview was the fact that Ryan brought up the vote totals and the fact that no one knows the real vote amounts. If Ryan doesn’t even know, how in the world can Billy Bush know????

I don’t mean to pile on the guy but Danny gives the worst interviews ever. He needs an image consultant before he releases his new CD. He has noooo idea how he comes off…

  • weelassie

I thought I read somewhere that Ryan said the vote total wasn’t even close?

No, that was that idiot Billy Bush, not Ryan.

  • linsav

I like how Adam tries not to shine and is very laid back so that Kris is very obvious as the Idol winner. These two guys are the best ever. They should give lessons to the United Nations.

  • CindyM

The Kris/Adam respect is so great to see. My favorite moment though? “You Jerk..” coming out of Kris’s mouth after Danny said he picked Kris to win.

  • Ellie2

Kris’s comment to Danny made me laugh, too, just because all the rest of them were so careful not to say who they thought would win. I don’t think Danny is mean spirited, I think he is just cluless socially and has no idea how poorly he comes across.

  • d. b. cooper

    commenting on the whole show:

Kris very deftly handled the religion question, though I wish people didn’t think the religion of the people running for President mattered, but se la life. Kris and Adam seem to have great senses of humor.

I liked that Kris diplomatically expressed surprise about Bikini Girl getting to Hollywood. Adam wouldn’t even touch it.

Paula talking about their performance choices and styles overriding their personal lives for viewers really rang true to me.

Kris calling Danny a jerk after he said he predicted a Kris win was hilarious.

Also hilarious, Allison’s impersonation of Cindy Lauper. Dead on.

I have to say now that the show is over, I find myself liking Danny Gokey. It’s a weird feeling. Now that he isn’t on the show, imperiling my favored contestant, I can more easily appreciate his personality. He made a great point about the OTT praise the judges give putting people off. I was hoping someone would say it and was surprised it was Danny. I thought overall, he came off as very vulnerable and humbled.

I’m looking forward to seeing the Monday show.

  • hypertwink

It could be one of the executive staff of 19E. It could be a janitor who passed by as the producers were hyperventilating when they saw the results. Nigel (or Simon Fuller?) knew like 3-4 hours after the Top 2 performances that Cook was going to win, so it could be the same this year. And Ryan said once that there are days throughout the competition when he knew the results before he said it on air and there were days when he was as surprised as anybody who was going home.

  • virgo03v

Um there was no Danny. It was just Kris and Adam in these videos.

MJ didn’t post the entire show. The rest of the idols came out after the Kris/Adam segment.

He made a great point about the OTT praise the judges give putting people off.

I agree with Adam. Adam was a completely different contestant from the show, and the judges just pointed out that talent comes in many forms. I don’t think that really hurt him much, only with people who never liked him in the first place. Adam isn’t the only person to ever get praise from the judges. Simon’s OTT praise didn’t keep Fantasia, Ruben, Carrie, or Jordin from winning. Like Simon said, he genuinely thinks Adam is a star. As Paula said in the interview, when they see something they just have to express it. Sometimes they are right (ex. Carrie) and sometimes they are wrong (ex. Ruben/Tamyra Gray). Time will tell whether they were right with Adam.

Overall I thought it was a cute interview. Scott is hilarious as always! I loved the “can you get me on dancing with the stars as my next career move” line. I love that guy’s personality.

I’m okay with Kris winning and I love them both. But I think the voting issues might have to come up again. Not out of fan bitterness, but out of wanting AI to have some sort of fairness to its voting system.

I saw this on another blog:

Apparently, Extra led off their show tonight with piece about the Arkansas/gate and Arkansas AT&T handing out free go-phones and sending out people to training Arkansas voters on how to powertext thousands of votes per phone. There is also a follow-up piece on their website.

    http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2009/05/were_idol_votes_legit.php

This is a horrible mess that truly calls into the question the legitimacy of American Idol’s voting system and its financial connections with AT&T.

  • aek

lol…my sister just said, “about Danny Gokey, whatever he’s thinking in his head at the moment, you’re gonna hear it.” The “you jerk” comment was hilarious too.

I like all the idols this year…at least thus far.

  • ShariG

What would have been funny would have been when Seacrest said, “Speaking of the Bromance, do you think questions about your sexuality affected the vote?” If Kris had said, “No.” LOL

    OT but:

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m okay with Kris winning and I love them both. But I think the voting issues might have to come up again. Not out of fan bitterness, but out of wanting AI to have some sort of fairness to its voting system.

My gut feeling is that, as bad as the current system is, any change to the voting system by these producers is more likely to make the system worse than better. It would be a shame if Kris’ win gave production the excuse to put even more power in the judges’ hands. One vote per phone line would be great but the producers wouldn’t do that, they want people to be very passionate about their Idols. The only thing they would do is have a weighted system where the judges scores counted a la Dancing With the Stars.

  • chicksineggz

Eh, I’m sure all the fans had mass voting parties and other ways to get lots of votes.

Danny, the antithesis of Kris. Hehe. Loved the “you jerk” comment too.

  • aek

Ahhh, I missed the show! I really wanna see the Danny part.

Oh, Ryan asked Danny who he had thought would win. And of course you are expecting him to say something like “well, both are so awesome, that I thought it could easily be either.” or some such politically correct drivel.

Instead, he simply says, well I called it for Kris. Then Kris laughingly calls him “a jerk.” Danny goes on to say that contrary to what Adam said about the pimping helping him, he thought that the pimping hurt Adam. Basically that the judges weren’t giving Kris credit and that may have made people angry.

I, personally, think that both guys are right to some extent. The regular pimping probably helped Adam, as pimping is meant to do. But at the end of the show, when Simon basically told people to vote for Adam and the judges pretty much dismissed Kris on every talk show….I think that definately hurt Adam in the end.

  • aek

Did anyone else think it was cruel of the show, when they were showing the comments from the judges on both guys on Tuesday, to show all of the negative comments that the judges made for Kris, and then to show only the glowing comments for Adam? It was weird.

  • oceana

Eh, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure all the fans had mass voting parties and other ways to get lots of votes.

Well I think that if AT&T was handing out free phones, and sent trainers to Arkansas to train people on how to text and power vote, it goes way beyond fans organizing voting parties.

This is a financial arrangement between AT&T and AI. It doesn’t seem right to me. No offense to Kris or his fans. He won, that’s the end of it. But AI has some answering to do for the future.

  • ShariG

oceana, why would AI want to do that when they so clearly expected and wanted Adam to win? I don’t understand the financial arrangement and connection. I don’t believe there was anything unethical done at all with the voting. I was one of those people who voted constantly for all four hours. The first hour I only got three votes in because the lines were busy all of the time. The second hour I got maybe 7 votes in. I got the most open lines the fourth hour and even then it wasn’t a lot. I’ll bet if I was able to cast 100 votes it would be on the high side and I hit redial constantly for four hours. I don’t think anyone can get through for thousands of votes. Plus, Idol has a method of detecting and throwing out power voting. I read that last year when this all came up after David Cook won.

  • ShariG

Just one more thing though on the voting. We had online voting parties. I don’t see anything wrong with that. A group of us, Kris fans, chatted on IM to keep each other awake to vote for the full four hours. That, to me is just fan support. If friends of his or people from his home town or even home state want to get together with their cell phones and vote to support each other and to support their favorite, isn’t that a good thing? I’ve never heard of AT&T passing out cell phones. That wouldn’t make sense business-wise for them to do. What would be their incentive?

  • ShariG

aek, I hated that. I also hated the look on Kris’s face when he was watching it. I don’t want him to feel any self doubt. He is a winner and he deserves to have won. I wish someone other than an AI person was interviewing them so that they wouldn’t already have such a bias.

  • chicksineggz

I was about to say an Anoop comment, but I realized there’s another thread.
Shari, I don’t think Kris feels he doesn’t deserve it. He’s just naturally a really really nice humble guy. He can’t help it!

  • ShariG

The Danny thing is completely out of context. Ryan asked Danny what he had written on the Larry King Live blog after he was eliminated when he was asked the question about who he thought would win. Danny wasn’t mean or disrespectful. Ryan put him on the spot. He had the transcript right in front of him. Danny couldn’t very well avoid the answering. He said he called it for Kris and gave his reasons which had to do with Kris being, in his mind, more like him so that his votes might go to Kris, and that the judges constant over the top praise of Adam might have a backlash. I think he was right. Seacrest really set him up. I felt sorry for him.

  • clearone

Hee……that brought a smile to my face!

I thought Ryan, overall, did a credible job interviewing them. He knows them so he knew what to ask. I’ll give him a break for tonight only.

I think my favourite moment was when Paula mentioned Adam and Kris having a Bromance. They poked at each other and laughed. It was really endearing to see the genuine affection between these two.

Memo to AI: Please let Adam and Kris sleep this weekend. Adam, in particular, looked totally whipped. There were times he was just staring into space and not reacting to those talking around him. ((Hugs)) to both he and Kris.

  • aek

aek, I hated that. I also hated the look on Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s face when he was watching it. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want him to feel any self doubt. I agree. It was a horrible thing to do to him. I almost feel like Kris would have preferred to not take the crown. Every single day someone throws Adam’s loss in his face.

I just feel like when someone wins this show, they deserve to win it. I might personally prefer a few people over the winner, but of course everyone will have their own opinions.

Kris inspired the most votes, therfore Kris deserved the win. It’s simple really. I guess I just never buy into the “America got it wrong” stuff.

Yeah, I think Seacrest likes the uncomfortable moments. No, I don’t really think there was anything wrong with what Danny said, but I knew that some people would get pissed.

Basically he was calling it for Kris, thinking that the ott pimping of Adam had hurt Adam’s chances. There was no disrespect there.

  • CathyMK

It bugged me too, but, sadly, I think the comments they picked for Kris were the best ones the judges gave him. They definitely could have found another way to do those videos that was more flattering to Kris. It’s not like I ever expect AI to show respect for contestants though, even after they’re done competing. Hopefully Kris will sell well enough that the media will eventually let the “upset victory” thing go, or at least stop being mean about it. I do still see stories that refer to Cook’s “upset victory” over Archuleta though, so I guess it’s too attractive of a story to let go of quickly.

LOL! I totally missed that. The way Adam deadpanned “Hiiiiiiii” made me laugh so hard. Someone please let Glammy have a nap or three.

It’s so sweet that a reporter asking Kris “Now that Danny’s gone, do you think you’ll get the Christian vote” made him really upset. You rock Kris.

And I was totally awwwing at the part when Ryan suggested that Kris receiving Danny’s votes (based on musical appeal, not religion) made Kris feel guilty, and Kris said it did, and Adam awwwed, and Kris said, “You know it did”. They are too cute together. :)

  • oceana

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think anyone can get through for thousands of votes.

Texting is different. Someone from Arkansas posted here yesterday that they got over 6700 votes in by texting. That’s an incredible number, yet I’m sure that thousands were doing it.

AT&T makes money from the texting. So they promoted texting in Arkansas where there was emotional interest in voting. Is that fair? I’m sure that AT&T doesn’t care who wins. They just want to make the money. But is it fair to all the contestants?

It was on Extra tonight. I think it raises some questions to consider for the future.

That is one reason why Kara and others say that the road to Hollywood is paved with broken hearts – Hollywood/music industry is cruel and you have to have a very thick skin regarding negativity and criticism and if you don’t you won’t make it in either medium. Kris is fine and will be fine and has said many times he has confidence in himself. The entertainment field loves to build you up and knock you down, Simon does it on a daily basis. Ryan is only asking questions that people are asking themselves and in the press.

  • stoplurking

I was thinking about what Adam said about the praise he got early on. He has a point there. It probably helped him early on that the judges praised him. It made people who may not necessarily have felt comfortable with him think, hey, it is OK to like him. It hurt later on because the judges couldn’t seem to see anyone other than him and Danny.

  • stoplurking

And to everyone who said they look cute together, I agree! I hope they do more interviews together though I wouldn’t mind seeing them talk solo as well.

  • Michelle

How is it unfair? Obviously all contestants have very emotionally invested fans. All have access to the various voting technologies. Everyone knows about text voting, they put it on the screen every episode. All the fanbases know about power texting, gizmo, skype, vbuzz, voting across time zones. Over on IDF there was a whole little argument cause the Kris board had ‘borrowed’ a powervoting tipsheet from the Adam board. It’s not as if Kris fans were given exclusive super-sekkrit voting techniques as an unfair advantage.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

IMO Adam looked like he was struggling to stay awake, especially after the others came out.

Queen rumors substantiated by Rolling Stone magazine- Queen is indeed interested in Adam.

    To quote Brian May:
“(drummer Roger Taylor) and I are definitely hoping to have a meaningful conversation with him at some point. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not like we, as Queen, would rush into coalescing with another singer just like that. It isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t that easy. But Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d certainly like to work with Adam. That is one amazing instrument he has there.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

It bugged me too, but, sadly, I think the comments they picked for Kris were the best ones the judges gave him

They were showing the judges’ “final comments,” after the coronation song. I would have preferred that they showed Kris’s best comments of the night, which were after Ain’t No Sunshine.

Kris won AI and the show gave him a career, but I now feel the sooner he gets away from that whole atmosphere the better. The show didn’t “get” Kris.
He was never a favorite as a performer. Simon is still putting him down. They never will get what he’s all about and he has to get out in front of audiences who appreciate him, without the other contestants around. I’m confident he’ll get his due in time.

I’m not all that cool with the “there are no winners or losers” talk from Adam. Don’t want to piss off any Adam fans, he’s a great guy and awesome performer, but when the runner up is sitting next to the winner (who’s humble to a fault, to begin with) saying there are no winners it seems not to acknowledge Kris’s victory. Just my opinion.

  • hicksaholic

Texting is completely different- every vote goes through, no busy signals. 6700 vote? One poster got in 80000 votes in a 4 hour period with a cheap go phone and Kris’s number programmed as her top 20 and hitting resend.

  • maturin

It has little to do with either Adam or Kris. Every year the media does this with the non-winners, to try to get a sound bite that will make the runners-up sound bitter. Adam has praised Kris in every single answer to every single question, and vice versa, but that will never satisfy the hardcore fans. Nothing could.

I’m an Adam fan, but I totally see your point. I think context matters, though. Adam seems to say that whenever he’s pressed to say he’s disappointed with the result, or he’s let down in some way. So, in that context, his response is fair and upbeat from his perspective.

I do think he’s exhausted too. Because he’s consistently acknowledged and applauded Kris’ status as the winner, and he’s certainly said, time and again, that Kris totally deserved to win.

Unfortunately for both of them, rightly or wrongly, the result appears as an “upset” so both are, and will continue to be, peppered with questions about 1) that fact, 2) speculation about the litany of reasons, and 3) how they feel about the result… Wish that wasn’t the case, but it is.

  • Glenda

Yes–both sides had mass voting parties. But the west coast was disadvantaged with the phone in vote. The time overlap and the limited wats lines skewed the phone vote. NOBODY could get a vote in from the west coast via phone.

AT&T refuses to devulge how they sort out phreakers. They refuse to also report the phone vote numbers as well as the text vote numbers. If both Adam and Kris fans equally text voted–the limited wats lines available to west coast (Adam-land) totally skewed the vote. Is this fair??

Idol viewers should DEMAND a different voting system. Similar to Dancing With The Stars, I say.

Speed texting for 4 damn hours–good gawd.

  • maturin

Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t both Kris and Adam state that they felt like they were both winners already before the finale?

Yeah, I’m not disagreeing with the sincerity of both of them. They seem to really feel this. Just noting the fan cycle. Every year the winner and runner up try to be gracious to each other, and this year’s duo and last year’s David & David, have been outstandingly gracious to one another. Fans will still find fault and hidden disses in their words.

  • virgo03v

Uhhh.. Kris also says they both won, and that there aren’t any losers. Its true. They’re all getting recording contracts and have the opportunity for a career in music. Where is the losing in that?

I would agree, except for the fact that Adam AND Kris (separately and together) have both said that they’ve discussed that very topic at length, and they have both firmly said that simply by making it to the final, they are both winners and that the actual title is not the most important thing. For *them*. To everyone else maybe The Title is the be-all-and-end-all, but the two of them are just thrilled to now have the opportunity to get their careers off and running.

  • anemicandholding

I recall last season’s LKL interview. LKL went around to every contestant and asked them if they thought Archie would win. Cook was dodging pretty horrible questions about his “shock win” for weeks, and it seemed to me in the LKL interview they went on excessively about how much the judges loved Archie on Top 2 night. I read an article at the time period on MTV listing the reasons why Archie couldn’t win . . . saw very similar article at Rolling Stone this year. Etc, etc

It’s amusing to me, but this is nothing new: unexpected winner beats season-long frontrunner, and the media tries to get them to hate each other, but they aren’t biting.

Because it’s almost like something Adam should have said to be funny, not Kris. Even though Danny is a tool, I still think what he said about the judges comments hurting Adam was right.

I like how Adam tries not to shine and is very laid back so that Kris is very obvious as the Idol winner. These two guys are the best ever. They should give lessons to the United Nations.

I TOTALLY AGREE! and then when Danny Gokey stands next to them, it’s like, “You tool.” because Adam and Kris are just the cutest little things to ever enter the world.

I think Danny was wrong. the judges comments didn’t hurt Fantasia, Ruben, Carrie, or Jordin. In fact, they helped them. There were other factors for Adam’s lost, but that wasn’t one of them.

I thought it was interesting for Danny to say that since he was the chosen one from the very beginning. He was supposed to win rather than Kris OR Adam.
