“Kris Allen came by for an hour long concert, followed by an unsuspected Meet and Greet, where me and my sister got an autograph each, and our picture taken with him. When we moved up close, we were right next to the speakers, so you cant really hear him. Clips are skeptical cuz my camera died real closely after the Live Like We’re Dying bit…”

Thanks girlygirl, What happened to the bangs? :-)

BNS, as well as RG are the only examples of songs that Kris has done on his own, so even though they were written a long time ago, I think they are good examples of who he is as an artist. They show great attention to the lyrics, which is good, but the lack of a hook is a problem.

Kris said that the songs on BNS are not representing who he is as an artist today. He changed since then and he learned a lot since then.
Nothing that Kris has said or done recently indicates that he wants his next album to be like BNS, so I don’t see how BNS can be seen as an indication of the quality of Kris’s current ability to write commercial songs. And RG also wasn’t written as a potential single, so imo it also cannot be seen as an example of his ability to write commercial songs. I think him having a lot of contribution to the songs on KATA that are commercial is a much better indication. I don’t think that if Kris will write all his songs for the album it means that all of them will sound like RG. Kris is a much more diverse artist than that. Not every song he will write will be radio-friendly(and that is not a bad thing, since not every song on the album needs to be a potential single and it’s fine to write songs that are good songs, but are not meant for radio), but that doesn’t mean that he cannot write radio-friendly songs.

Kris does want the success and recognition(he said so), but that shouldn’t be on the expense of being true to himself as an artist. I think that Kris will continue to be true to himself as an artist and that hew ill manage to fund a lot of success and have a long career.

In Kris’s case I strongly feel that unless he can do music that has personal meaning for him, he won’t be able to function as an artist. So, if he becomes a pop star (or HAC star), fine. If he becomes a great artist, with or without that success, well, then he is being true to himself and to whatever inspires him to create.

ross I soooo agree with this.

Kris said that the songs on BNS are not representing who he is as an artist today.

That’s a valid point, but I don’t have any current songs that Kris has written on his own to see how he’s progressed as a writer. I’ve submitted the question, which song on his album does Kris think best represents who he is as an artist, to interviewers who have asked for ideas about what to ask Kris, but they’ve passed it over in favor of questions about AI, Simon, and Paula. LOL. The way that AI fans view a singer, and how he or she view themselves as artists doesn’t always match, but for me, even though he didn’t write it, LLWD is the type of song that I expected from Kris. I’d say that CSA, Written All Over My Face,Let It Rain and Alright With Me, and to a lesser degree, Bring it Back also fit with the type of music that I expected from him based on his AI work and BNS.

I wish that he answered that question. I also wonder what song on KATA he think has the most similar vibe to what he wants his next album to sound like. I wish that he was asked much more music-related questions on his interviews instead of the questions about AI.
I wonder if the are any songs that Kris already finished writing that he really wants to be on his album.

  • FaithfulFan

luly Kris said in an interview that he had already written some songs that he was really excited about.

  • luly

FaithfulFan- oop’s I forgot about that. I wish would could hear even a small part from this songs or more details about them.

Pop hits are not the be all and end all, for all artists. Not everyone wants to do music for the masses.

It’s funny, Ross, I had this precise thought when hearing the pop songs on the radio at lunch. Quite a bit of it won’t be remembered in a few years, and I’d rather forget some of it immediately!

  • FaithfulFan

jasmine lol but that is true. For years we listened to a local pop station at work but recently the girls changed it to a local country music station because no one could stand the majority of pop music they were playing. Plus some of the lyrics are not appropriate for a place of business. And yet the pd’s keep promoting this meaningless drivel based on the singers “name”. I guess someone must like it or they wouldn’t play it, but I certainly do not (with a few exceptions).

  • girlygirl

yoo-hoo! the new concert thread is up!

  • Elliegrll

The subject may be closed, but Kris is a pop artist. That’s what I hear on BNS and that’s what I hear on his current album. To be successful making that type of music he will need to make commercially viable music that can be played on either top 40 pop stations or HAC stations. On both formats good hooks and catchy choruses are going to standout more than any other part of the song.
