Singing chicken farmer, Kevin Skinner took the top prize in the Simon Cowell produced America’s Got Talent finale tonight. He wins a million dollars and a headlining gig in Las Vegas.

I kinda stopped paying attention to this show about halfway through its run, but I do remember Kevin’s audition, and I wasn’t impressed with his country warbling. Was he really the most talented of the finalists? Peeps who’ve been watching, please, that can’t possibly be true. I just listened to his final performance, “I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing”, and holy crap, that was NOT good. To say the least.

Sharon Osbourne compared Kevin to Johnny Cash and Lou Reed? Please. Kill me NOW.

Susan Boyle performed her first single the Rolling Stone’s “Wild Horses” from her upcoming album. And that was very stiff and unimpressive. She shouted her way through the song without displaying any emotional range or phrasing. And the crowd kept applauding…what? Oh, the applause sign, most likely.

America’s Got Talent = Full of Fail.

After the jump, videos from Susan Boyle and Kevin Skinner

I have never watched this show but for some reason had it on tonight at around 8:10. A woman came out singing disco (sorta Ok) and then other acts came out. I swear on a Bible that I thought they were doing a finale similiar to Idol where they bring out all the joke auditions for a laugh. When the whole thing was over, I thought man these people are terrible and then the announcer said “Thelma Houston and our ten finalists.”

Could that be true? I mean it was completely bizarre. And then I put it on for the last three minutes and a saw a woman dressed like a 1950s opera singer next to a chicken farmer. Yikes. This show can’t be for real.

  • rblaha1234

You have got to be kidding me. This guy could not sing. I can’t believe he won. Well I won’t be watching this show ever again. Just like I won’t be watching American Idol again. They rob the real performers of the title.

  • gingerly

I don’t watch this show…ever. Well I did catch the Eli Mattson clips on MJ’s last year. Eli was the best ever on that show I think. Ultimately I can’t abide anything that has to do with the hoff.

  • Keel

Dude, I watched that I Don’t Want To Miss a Thing performance and midway through asked my husband to change the channel because the dude was horrrrrribbbble! HORRIBLE!! And he won??!?? Urgh. This show blows chunks.

  • Suzanne

    Wow. So much to say.

Susan Boyle–she’s got an incredible voice, but no performance skill (and too much vibrato, for me). Singing, yet catatonic. And that video package practically Cannonized her. yikes. Nonetheless she was far better than:

Kevin Skinner–flat a lot. I feel terribly for him b/c no one is going to that show in Vegas. I hope that he wisely invests whatever portion of a million he really gets. David Cook was about a million times better on that song, and it wasn’t even one of David’s best performances; same with Allison Iraheta. Poor Kevin Skinner who now thinks that he’s super talented.

Good for Simon that he signed up for a bunch more years on AI, since this show of his really needs to die.

  • harmony2009

Wow. I’ve never watched the show, but if this the winner, I guess that America doesn’t have any talent.

  • terps

The worst was Shikira, all she did was belly dance and lypsynic her way threw the song. She is howling like a wolf while she is “singing”

  • bjames

i hate to say it, but i watched the whole season. kevin skinner was one of the WORST contestants i have ever seen on that show. every time he sang, i thought “surely the judges are going to rip him apart.” and inexplicably they always gave him the highest praise. it was SUCH a joke.

his last performance was the worst, and his little bit of singing on tonight’s finale was just dreadful.

runners-up barbara padilla and recycled percussion were actually pretty great. i’m officially done trying to get through this show.

  • rockvixen

wow so glad I don’t watch this show because it’s evident as someone posted above America Doesn’t Have Talent.

This guy won because he’s the underdog chicken farmer with no talent.

  • tierbee

Jeez. I’m a country music fan and no way would I make it through that song without turning the channel.

  • cookmerized

this show is crap. and i’m queen of crap for watching it all summer long. i can’t believe kevin skinner won, not that i would have paid to see any of the top ten perform in vegas. so glad this season is over and that i can begin my countdown to the start of american idol season 9.

  • kateydid57

I’m a big American Idol fan, and am usually interested in Britain’s Got Talent, but what is with this show?! I only saw Barbara Padilla and Recycled Percussion, who I thought were both very good, but how did this guy win? He seems like a nice, decent guy who loves his family, but how could America vote him into the winning spot?! Mediocre voice at best. People don’t seem to be voting on talent, but I guess who pulled their heartstrings. Also seems to show who in America is voting. A different group than the AI viewers, it seems.

  • shanz88

During the Susan intro/montage, what is that background music? It sounds strangely familiar and it’s bothering me.

  • cookmerized

though i should add that it was lovely, as always, to hear magic rainbows underneath the sappy package about reaching for your dreams. David Cook FTMFW

  • JosieX

I turned on the TV Monday night because I wanted to see Jay Leno’s new show, and caught the last couple of minutes when they play a clip of each contestant. When I heard Kevin’s “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” my jaw literally dropped because WHY would a country music person sing that song? It is a terrible, stupid song anyway (I hate that song), but this just adds insult to injury.

I remember seeing the video of his audition on here, don’t remember what it was (I see you have it and I’ll watch in a minute), but I remember that I thought he was sweet and I liked him. I thought of him as old fashioned traditional country…so WTF was he doing with that horrible Aerosmith song, I still don’t know. But, I guess he knows more than I do because he won! Good for him, and best wishes to him.

  • iluvai

Yay!!! Thanks for posting this MJ. I saw Kevin Skinner’s audition and loved it. I never really watched the show after that until the last few episodes.

I think the percussion guys should have won, they would be an awesome Vegas act.

So my first choice was the percussion dudes, but I was thrilled that Kevin Skinner won… I voted for Kevin Skinner, but thought Recycled Percussion should have really won. I love the underdog though.

I thought Susan Boyle sounded great!!!

  • iluvai

Wow. I’ve never watched the show, but if this the winner, I guess that America doesn’t have any talent.

    Kevin Skinner is really awesome.

  • iluvai

The comments are so interesting. I loved Kevin Skinner from the beginning. I was about having a heart attack, when I couldn’t comment on the finale.

  • leeaundra

I don’t watch this show but I did catch the guy who won (he cries good) and Barbara Padilla’s auditions. Padilla would have gotten my vote, if I cared. I don’t. It’s a crappy show. I watched part of it last year and thought Eli should have won.

  • iluvai

Oh MJ…. My nine year old really liked Wild Horses.

To each his own I guess….

  • iluvai

I must be the lone Kevin Skinner fan on MJ’s. Oh well. I’m super happy for him.

  • CRB

The winner has more pitch problems than someone who parks their Porsche under a pine tree. I’ve seen him sing three times and thought all of them were subpar.

  • revcat

I only watched the show a couple of times, and in my opinion the best thing it has going is Nick Cannon. He is really likable. I did see the show when Kevin initially sang (not the audition) and really liked him. But from what I’ve seen since on video clips, he hasn’t measured up (in my mind) to that performance. He says he writes songs, if he does maybe he can team up with somebody and make some money. Meanwhile even after taxes the million dollars will go pretty far where he comes from, at least let’s hope so. Nice guy.

  • connie0128

Barbara Padilla was wonderful and her performances were exceptional, especially Ave Maria. She and several others were better.

  • Lulu2

“America’s Got Talent” is a show that promises more than it delivers. Kevin Skinner’s first performance was decent, but his subsequent performances were pretty bad. The final performance was totally off-key. His song choices, other than the first, were bad. He wasn’t anywhere near the most talented. Of the final performances, he was number nine. But the show is not a talent contest and the producers are dishonest to say it is. It is a glorified throwback to “Queen for a Day,” a 1950′s or 1960′s daytime show that awarded prizes to the contestant with the best sob story (“My husband died and left me with 10 children and I scrub floors for a living by day and am a cashier at night…..” Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding) The show is also perplexing in that, although some people are told after the first audition that they are going to the next round in Las Vegas, they are then sent home at the airport (What?) or later in Las Vegas WITHOUT EVER PERFORMING AGAIN. In fact, apparently NO ONE ever performs at the Las Vegas “round.” It’s such a weird show; it gives me the creeps. And, oh, yeah, if you aren’t a singer, forget about winning…..I probably won’t watch it again, no matter how amusing Nick Cannon is at the audition phase. Nick Cannon was great at the auditions, but after that, not so much.

  • Lulu2

Oh, and Susan Boyle: GREAT voice. Wild Horses: Pretty darn good. She WAS stiff on the AGT finale. We were checking to see if she was lip-syncing. Probably wasn’t. She may not go down easy, but the voice is gold.

  • d. b. cooper

I saw one show, the one where Skinner sang Always On My Mind, it was without doubt the worst version of that song I’ve ever heard. Tuneless warbling in a disinterested voice. I listened, thinking this was some sick joke, that it couldn’t be serious, that the judges would point out he’d just metaphorically taken a dump on stage, on America, on Willie Nelson. Then the judges all slobbered all over him. Flabbergasted, I was. In their defense they had virtually nothing to choose from, the talents were at best middling in their chosen fields (the worst of which were the child dancer who did the same move over and over again and then acted as if his costume and set design were the problem, the deplorable Texas Tenors, and the nightmarishly sleazy magician, who were about as objectionable as Skinner). The jumping dog act should have won, at least that dog might be the best jumping dog in the country.

It amazes me that this is basically the same franchise who found Susan Boyle, a genuinely amazing, and rare, talent. I guess they lucked out on that.

  • JosieX

I did see the show when Kevin initially sang (not the audition) and really liked him.

That must have been the clip that I saw. I watched the audition posted, and I don’t remember seeing that before.

    ETA:

“I feel terribly for him b/c no one is going to that show in Vegas.”

Suzanne, I think he will probably do ok. The guy does have warmth and sincerity that is touching. I am sure he will add some stories, tell some jokes, and be very grateful for the whole thing and the audience will probably go away well pleased. Vegas can always fill a house with comped tickets anyway, right? I don’t mean any disrespect to Kevin by saying that. I think there are a lot of people who like “old school”, traditional country music, and he could tap into that. (That’s why I was so honked off about “Don’t Want to Miss a Thing”. But I actually think I hate his version a little less than some others I’ve heard, strangely enough.

  • d. b. cooper

Also this Wild Horses is better than her studio version. Here’s to live singing instead of slick, bland studio manipulation.

  • http://randomizeme.wordpress.com arca

Aww – I thought Susan Boyle sang beautifully – she was tense of course but this was her debut performance in the US.

  • flx73

the chicken farmer won because america is a bleeding heart country that rewards people not on talent but on need.

truly the opera singer was the better of the two but her story was not as compelling as his was.

    after all, he’s unemployed.

as far as susan goes, she did a fine job with the song. i suspect she’s still terrified of live performances and all the accolades she keeps on getting.

on another topic: Thanks to all of you for making me feel as if i had been to the american idol’s concerts. your pictures, videos, comments, and recaps made my day everyday. Thanks again.

  • CoBaby

God Gawd, what has happened to this country? We do get it wrong, a lot. This guy will put Vegas to sleep. But, the underdog story still wins and gets those votes.

  • http://www.f3properties.com Animated

America does have talent, just not the talent to pick the right winner.

  • LVanna

I live in Vegas and I cannot see Kevin’s performances going over well here. He seems to be very sincere and sensitive and sings with very raw emotion but I don’t think that’s enough to sell tickets here IMO. He very definitely has a problem with speaking which is also necessary to perform anywhere. I wish him the best of luck and perhaps a shot at a country album if he can find a label. Perhaps the title will help him.

Hopefully he will invest his winnings wisely or buy a nice farm/home for his family. Good luck Kevin.

  • dvls

Skinner is not a good singer … at all! I was pretty disgusted with the results. But the judges told the voting obsessed southerners that he was great and they believed and voted . Piers and Sharon are probably having a good laugh over the stupid, gullible Americans. Hope Kevin doesn’t blow the whole million at the Vegas casinos!

  • anovich

When it came down to the Final 2 – wow Barbara deserved it more but I knew an opera singer wouldn’t win. My husband couldn’t believe this guy even made it past the judges in his original audition. I thought the Fab 5 or Recycled Percussion should have won – they could actually be good Vegas acts

  • RowZee824

I watched the show once in awhile and I thought Skinner’s first audition was probably his best song perhaps because of the shock value it gave everyone. I wish the guy luck but I think there was better talent. I’m not so sure he’s Vegas material at all. I kind of liked the percussion guys.

    Love your comment, animated.

  • Studio57

Yep, I am another one that loved Kevin Skinners audition. It must have been the right song for his voice because I hate country and it actually kind of brought tears to my eyes. The next week he was really off key so I kind of figured maybe he has been sitting on that damn porch singing and perfecting that first song for quite a while. I have been watching the show on and off since. I didn’t even know last night was the finale.

The show is crap, and serves no purpose than to give false dreams to people who have had tragic lives.Terry Fator is doing well, but unless they find the next Chris Angel, who is going to be able to headline in Vegas?

Eli Mattson and Cas Haley were both great singers on that show, too bad they wasted their talent on it.

Susan Boyle’s rendition of Wild Horses was lovely, but it didn’t have half as much emotion as the version by the Sundays.

  • St.Lucia

You’ve got to be kidding me. This crap won? I mean is it anything more than crap? the audience didn’t even enthusiastically clap for that either. how could you? The was the most tuneless warbling I’ve ever heard. I feel like I need to be in some bar where some drunk guy comes up and does some bad karaoke and even then I don’t think there is enough alcohol in the world to make that sound good.

His craptastic sob story obviously must have been what won him the title, because really what else could of?

  • t2

And in an ironic twist of fate, last year the “pop” singer Eli Madsen should have won and yet Opera Guy beat him out (somehow?!?!). This year Opera Woman should have won and the singing chicken farmer beat her out (somehow ?!?!) Eh! The only real winner of this show so far is Terry Faydor.

And I sooooo love Nick Cannon. Can I just put a bow on him and put him in my pocket.

  • abbysee

Why is this show still on the air?

  • SybilTrelawney

Oh. My. God. This guy won? He. can. not. carry. a. tune. What the hell did the losers sound like? Excuse me, Johnny Cash didn’t have a great voice, so Skinner is just like him? W.T.F?

I kept thinking Cookie in the Top 3, when he blew that song out of the water. This was like a desecration.

  • JazzRocks

What the heck is America thinking? What crap. Susan Boyle wasn’t great but at least she was far better than Kevin whathisname.

  • janerazor

Holy pitchy heck in a handbasket. Not good. If I heard him singing in a dive bar in the middle of podunk nowhere, I would have thought he wasn’t good enough for the venue.

  • Mary102

LOL, MJ! You’re summary is too funny :-) I have NEVER watched AGT – think what I’ve seen of it (mainly from The Soup) and it’s British counterpart is pretty lame and unimpressive, and mainly just more of a passing curiosity, at best, rather than a display of any ACTUAL talent.

And don’t even get me started on Su-Bo – dear god, I can’t stand that woman. Little to no talent (beyond a pretty voice – which MANY MANY people have), no charisma or stage presence, made popular by her frumpy appearance – I could go on and on.

That Simon wastes his time on these nothing acts and completely ignores the real talent that springs up on idol just shows how out of touch with popular tastes he really is.

  • maturin

    Mary102

I know. Even watching a few clips from this, and the British version, have had a very strange effect—I’m now much more skeeved out by seeing Cowell on my screen.

When you see what a dreadful hack he really is, it makes it clear that whatever strange magic Idol has that’s found so many really entertaining singers . . . isn’t coming from Cowell.

    The SuBo thing . . . just . . . go home, please.

  • mitchellvii

I stopped watching this season of AGT when they voted off that little 14 year old asian girl who possessed the BEST voice EVER to sing on that show in favor of that silly piano playing, dancing kid.

I still can’t figure out why they couldn’t have both continue.

Anyway, lost all interest after they let their best talent EVER go home.

  • jumpstart

I kept thinking Cookie in the Top 3, when he blew that song out of the water. This was like a desecration.

That pretty much sums it up for me as well.

  • BootStar

America’s Got Talent = Full of Fail.

MJ, have I told you lately I love you?

Seriously, this dude Kevin Skinner makes Taylor Hicks sound like Pavarotti. Epic Embarrassment. And I’m sure this shit show slaughtered Glee in the ratings. :-(

  • Allison

Kevin Skinner is awful and were most of the acts this year. I did not watch the finale, I watched Glee.
I did vote for Barbara Padilla – now she has talent. I also though the Fab 5 dancing sisters were very good and Vegas appropriate.
Best part of AGT this year was when the dancing boy, Arcadian, said that the producers MADE him do High School Musical, when he didn’t want to. They shut him up super fast (much like Paula-gate last year). I gave all my votes to him that week. I guess if people cared as much about this show as Idol, that would have gotten a lot of media attention. But I suppose everyone knows this show is hopeless and manipulated.
Only good winner off the show = Terry Fator.

  • leome

Is this even for real? He just couldn’t sing that song in the right tune.
Going by this show American Does Not Have Talent.

  • joyceanna

CANNOT believe Skinner won! People there is more talent in the world than a sappy singer. I do wish the world would recognize talent other than singing. Recycled percussion should have won. oh well

  • just sayin

Wow. I can’t believe Kevin Skinner won. He has some of the worst off-key singing I’ve ever heard on one of these shows. The American Idol judges would have ripped him apart after one of his “pitchy” performances. Just wow.

  • rfb

You know, since there is nothing to blame as far as voting,
like you could only vote 10 times, I think America gets tired
of same thing every year. I personally didn’t vote for Kevin
Skinner but I think in these days people are looking for
someone with heart and not just pure talent. He kinda
represented the poor (and there are a lot of poor
unemployed people out there right now). They need to
hear someone that they can relate to. Kudos to Kevin

  • sunchick

Y’all, I haven’t been so happy to hear Magic Rainbow since Cookie nabbed the AI crown. Ugg, I got snookered into watching this hot mess at the request of visiting house guests. TWICE, on Monday and again last night. I figured what the hell, they’re guests, and I have a DVR to record other stuff. 80% of the time I had to sit on my hands to keep from reaching for the remote. Thought the Barry White dude, the tappers and the percussion guys were entertaining. Had a snicker at the guy who struck me as a bargain basement David Cook. Otherwise I was pretty sure this is what purgatory would be like. Meanwhile, said house guests could not have been more amused by The Hoff saying “Hoff” and raved about the chicken farmer and actually whooped out loud when he won. I don’t think WTF?! quite covers my reaction. And then Susan Boyle ripped the soul out of my favorite Stones tune and when I kind of murmured out loud that if Keith Richards wasn’t some sort of freakish immortal rock gawd with liquor running through his veins, he’d probably be rolling over in his grave, houseguest #2 blinked and said, “I thought it was very pretty!” What a relief to come and read posts by my own kind, lulz. You know what they say…you can’t pick your relatives.

  • J.S.G.

How can a chicken catcher ever be unemployed?

Are there no chickens left to catch?

  • http://www.myspace.com/jmomsblog J

ok. so country, flat some times, but all and all I really enjoyed Kevin’s performance/ I think he might just go far in counry music.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

    Reminder:

Deleting all attempts at hijacking this thread to make it about AI Season 8. The topic is America’s Got Talent.

  • parislexi

    I loved Kevin’s audition.

Then somebody (the producers of the show, perhaps) got a hold on him, took him off his stool, put orchestra music and background singers behind him and spoiled it. When he sang his audition song with only him and his guitar performing – perfecto.
Wish he could be let alone to do his OWN thing. He is a solo act with only him and his guitar. He doesn’t need anything else. And he needs to stick to country music – no more ‘I don’t want to miss a thing’ – type songs.
I love his singing and, although I am a black, female, senior citizen, I would go see him sing if he appeared locally – only if he sang country songs with only his guitar.

  • savgal

I liked Kevin but loved Barbara, and was disappointed that she did not win. Susan Boyle did not win either, but look at her now. I would love to see Barbara and Paul Potts do a duet!
That said, I went back and watched Kevin’s audition again and it was truly wonderful, as was his take on “To Make You Feel My Love”. I think when he is accompanying himself, he does not have pitch problems. Possibly he cannot hear the music well when it is a track or over-produced, as I think “Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” was, and thus sounds a little flat. BTW, DWTMAT was originally a country song (written by Diane Warren)I believe, before Steven Tyler sang it.
I want to hear Kevin with just his own great guitar picking and possibly a piano, hat on backwards and all. Apparently he has some awesome original songs and look forward to hearing them. I have no doubt we will hear from Barbara, too- gorgeous and classy woman. And I think Hairo Torres was incredible, cannot believe he did not make top 5.

p.s. parislexi, wrote this before I read your comment. We basically said the same thing!

  • suebrody

Okay, I’ll admit I’ve never watched the show (and I will continue not watching it), but gah, Kevin’s last performance was horrible, IMO. He sounded like someone with his band playing in a bar, and not playing well. And if he is (still) unpolished, shouldn’t he have been polished by the time the season ended?

    Maybe America Doesn’t *KNOW* Talent?

  • Sassycatz

Y’all, I haven’t been so happy to hear Magic Rainbow since Cookie nabbed the AI crown.

Just heard about this. Is there a video?

  • Nina1

It appears that Susan Boyle’s cd will, indeed, be music to read by – or, in MadeFourKids home, music to make love by. She will be the more en
tertained, dammit, but may have to start posting as MadeFiveKids. :)

Susan sings every song entirely the same, which might work better if the songs were suited to her. Or were songs she felt connected to. She doesn’t seem like a Stones kinda gal.

I viewed only a little of ATT this season, but I did see Kevin Skinner’s first performance. Although I doubted he would win, I hoped he would. Kevin started his interview as Susan did, to audience snickers and judges’ forebearing “Oh sh*t” faces. I didn’t need to hear his backstory; he radiated his backstory. He reminded me of gray faced urban children and hollow-cheeked mountain families. He, like Susan, seemed a little bit…well, simple.

Though his shoes were barely together, his performance wasn’t. He sang plain, he sang with his soul, and his emotive power turned the sneers of heart-dead sophisticates into broad and cheering applause. He made me bleed.

Kevin does not have the music industry or the competition’s best voice, but then neither do many musicians who claim “artist” stature. He doesn’t even have the best voice in country music, but he sure beats a most I’ve heard, including the entire Carter family (think June Carter Cash). What he does have is authenticity and the ability to move people with understated emotional power. He is genuine. He is ungainly, untrained, unattractive and poor, but he has soul. America, apparently, felt its own and voted with it. Good on them.

I suspect country music will embrace this man. He is, after all, real country; not like so many who need daily twang practice to maintain the facade.

  • Nina1

Then somebody (the producers of the show, perhaps) got a hold on him, took him off his stool, put orchestra music and background singers behind him and spoiled it.

Oooooooh noooooooo! They wouldn’t do product and one of them soft-serve ice cream pointy haircuts to him, would they? Or would they?

  • Lizzy Pape

Are you kidding. He is a very good singer. Yes he does need a little work but he is better then the second place winner. I screamed at the top of my lungs when they said his name.

I am behind you Kevin all the way. I love you. Thank you for Blessing us with your singing.

I will be praying for you! God Bless!!!

  • Ladybug

I was kinda hoping for the cheezetastic “Texas Tenors.” So Vegas those guys!
Dopey show and, as far as I am concerned, dopey choice for winner. Oh well. It is blessedly over.

  • Matt

I was thrilled when Kevin won. No, he doesn’t have incredible range and really isn’t the most technically proficient singer in the country, but he sings with so much emotion and heart. I remember being blown away by his audition back in June. He didn’t come out and belt a song from the top of his lungs nor did he wow anybody with his range. But he gave an exquisite, tender performance with just him and his lonely little guitar and blew me away.

He represents that ordinary musician who has struggled for years as people laughed him off who finally got his chance to shine. Plus, he’s an incredibly down-to-earth gentleman who just seemed thankful that he was even in the position he was in. He went from a chicken-catcher to a millionaire with tons of fans who gets to perform at a 5-star event (Vegas show).

I’m so happy for him and his family. I like it when good people (and talented) get their shot. It’s a great thing.

  • mrskiddens

OMG what horrible performances! I guess I haven’t missed much by not watching this show. BLECH.

  • GreenHippo

I am a fan of AGT, no I should say I WAS a fan. ( I am also a fan of AI and SYTYCD, as well as ABDC). I have been lurking here for a while now. But last night absolutely baffled me. The AGT winner is Kevin Skinner?? This is nuts. Who on God’s earth would ever vote for this guy?
Well, reading this thread explains it. There are actually people here who liked his performances. Although, I cannot see why. What is his talent? Please, someone explain that to me. Singing? Can’t be, every performance he sang off key, at least some of the time. His emotion? What emotion? I did not see it, he looked the same to me everytime.
    He’s a ‘good guy’ , well so am I, how’s that entertaining?
I surely do not agree with some outcomes of above named shows, but this season’s AGT? I do not understand at all. Well, I’m done, removed it from my DVR, so I don’t get ‘suckered’ in again next year’ ¦

I did find Susan Boyle’s performance lovey, though.

  • shadow-rider

I’ve never watched AGT before this year and ended up watching it mainly for background noise. Well, just the performance part with the exception of the finale because by then curiosity had the best of me and I had to find out who won. All the acts were cheesy but thats what they are looking for. Its Vegas after all. Out of the group the most entertaining was recycled percussion. It was a bad choice of winner but since I have no plans on attending the show in Vegas I can care less. Maybe with the money he can get some lessons on performing better. The opening performance with the top 10 was pretty good. And Kevin Skinner was funny during it since he didn’t seem to know the words during his turn. He sounded like one of those people Ellen has on her show where they mumble through the song and they look ridiculous. They should change the name to America’s Got Cheesy Talent!

Now that its over I feel I just wasted a couple of months of my life I can’t get back. Don’t think I will be doing that again. Is this really one of the most popular shows? I just can’t believe that. They must have been joking! Well then again I tuned in when I wasn’t a fan so I guess it could be. LOL

Y’all, I haven’t been so happy to hear Magic Rainbow since Cookie nabbed the AI crown.

Just heard about this. Is there a video?

It was played during a very lonnng montage. I’m not sure if there’s video or not…maybe try searching America’s Got Talent montage on youtube? But it was damn funny to be half heartedly paying attention, suddenly hear that familiar opening preamble and realize, “Holy hell! Rainbow LIVES!” Muwah. Such an undead badass of a song.

I, too, watched every show this season and it was awful. Skinner should not have won…nor should have Barbara. She was a great opera singer, but I could not have sat thru a 90 min concert in Vegas with her…nor could I ever watch Skinner live…no matter how polish he may become…he has a personality just as flat as his singing. The group I would have enjoyed seeing for a concert was Texas Tenors who I voted for during the last show…Whether cheesy or not, they could sing and they were cuties with nice personalities.

Also, Susan’s performance was taped….I read that at another blog. Evidentally, she came in on Tuesday and taped the song. Simon had put her up at the Bel Air Hotel. Anyway, she was enroute back to England by the time AGT aired Wed. I read that Susan had a friend back home die on her just recently…Anyway, the producers were fearful she would crack in front of a live audience. Now this is my take on things…for all of you with tapes of the performance, review it and let me know if my assumptions are correct here: If you notice the long shots of her on stage during the performance, you could not see any heads in the audience like you could during other performances from anyone else. At the end, yes, you saw the judges standing and the audience standing up, but if you notice, they never did a close up of her breathing in the applause, because there was actually a look-a-like fill-in on stage. Nick never approached her for a close up because the ‘Real’ Susan wasn’t on stage…because her performance was already filmed the day b4 in an empty auditorium. The producers cleverly pieced everything together to make it look live. Also too, you can see that the word ‘live’ on the top left of the tv screen, left her shots when she began to sing.

Anyway, AGT was a real disappointment this season, but it still brought in the ratings for NBC. The show is definately not a ‘Star Search’…where long term stars had emerged. The only thing good that has come from AGT has been Terry Fator.

Please, someone explain that to me.

I don’t really think anybody needs to explain anything. Even if one of us who does enjoy his talent does explain it to you, there’s a great chance you still will disagree.

So I think it’s better to agree to disagree. Nobody is right or wrong here.

I’m super happy for Kevin Skinner!!! I think he is awesome.

But I think Recycled Percussion is good too. Their act is Las Vegasy.

MJ, have I told you lately I love you?

Seriously, this dude Kevin Skinner makes Taylor Hicks sound like Pavarotti. Epic Embarrassment. And I’m sure this shit show slaughtered Glee in the ratings.

This is so funny to me. ‘Cause I think Taylor Hicks sucks (he gives me the creeps) and I loved Kevin Skinner’s audition and his other performances. I guess we all have opinions and that is what makes the world go round.

MJ I think that is not his first audition. Wasn’t his first audition the “If tomorrow never comes” ?

At least Kevin S did not had the sob stories like so many constestants here. (Voices of Glory mom’s who had health problem, Barbara P who just recover from cancer etc etc)

The quality of the contestant have gone waaayyyyyy down since season 3 and never recovered.

The only ex finalist from AGT that have a performance at result show this season is Terry Fator who win seasn 2 and now has his own Vegas show. The producer even did no bother to ask Neal the season 3 winner to sing .

And though this show had Simon Cowell as producer, its kind of too obvious and a little insulting by putting Susan Boyle perform at pimp spot in finale result. (other singing guest stars: Shakira, Leona Lewis and Rascal Flat)

Come on. Susan even have not release an album. And yes she is a not a bad singer but definitely did not had any star quality just like Neal and Kevin Skinner.

But Simon Cowell PR maybe manage to promote her all out and her first solo album can be a success.
