Kelly Clarkson will be back in the studio tomorrow.

Darkchild aka Rodney Jerkins tweeted, “Taking today to prep the music for tomorrows session with @kelly_clarkson Did a great song for her, can’t wait to get her vocal on it! ”

Jerkins produced Lady Gaga’s “Telephone”, Beyonce’s “Deja Vu” and hits for Monica, Destiny’s Child, Toni Braxton, Britney Spears,  and Mariah Carey in the early 2000s.  He also produced Jennifer Lopez’s “If You Had My Love”.

Recently, Kelly entered the studio with Steve Jordan to record, “Why Don’t You Try,” a bluesy, R&B influenced song written by Eric Hutchinson.

On Valentines day, Kelly  tweeted excitedly about her album, “I record my last song on the 25th of this month and then we will be releasing the album! This album was influenced by Prince, Tina Turner, Sheryl Crow, Radiohead and there’s a little bit of a country vibe/influence on a couple of songs.”

Cool! but country?… *sigh* Well that is good I suppose. She needs to start expanding her fan base. Sales and radio play aren’t too friendly to pop rock.

It’s interesting that Kelly is still recording. I was under the impression that she had pretty much finished recording a while ago. I don’t mind a little “country vibe” as long as it’s not too country. I like how artists are using twitter/facebook to keep the fans updated on the progress of their albums and keep the fans engaged and interested.

I thought she had tweeted before that she was almost done with the album. Now, she seems to be recording a bunch of additional new songs . . . .

Heh, I’d love to hear Kelly do an entire album of country, but I know that’s never gonna happen. She actually has a very country sensibility about her, so I think it’s great that she’ll have a couple of songs that appeal to that market. The whole project sounds fantastic. Hoping it’s a huge hit for her.

That would be Rodney Jerkins, who did most of Brandy’s CDs, too.

koshka: Kelly also said Cry from her last album was kind of country and it wasn’t really. So if she’s saying there’s “a little bit of a country vibe” to a couple of songs it probably won’t be enough to give you an allergic reaction ;)

It feels like the record’s taken a kind of radical change of direction in just the past few months. Working with Darkchild is a big surprise but I’m kind of excited about it because I love Kelly’s R&B/soulful side best.

I’m wondering if they’re getting away from the pop/rock stuff for Kelly seeing as CHR’s gotten away from it too. Prince/Tina Turner implies funk rock, Sheryl Crow had a singer/songwriter vibe by way of funk/blues when she 1st came out. If so this is much more the kind of album I’ve been wanting from Kelly!

This record will be eclectic that’s for sure

As long as this doesn’t turn out into Express Yourself on the Telephone… who am I kidding, I’d dig it anyway. Still, Kelly deserves better. And country-ish Kelly? Sign me up.

Ewwwwwwww…….country!! No!!!!! Guess I will be buying singles and not the CD. What’s up with all these idols crossing over to country? There is a reason why no other country in the world except a portion of the US likes country music. A good reason :)
