It is a good song. Hey, if Kris can record a cover, not sure why Kelly can’t cover this. She and Cook are my favorite winners. I love that roadhouse bar band feel they both give off. There is something gritty about both of them which comes from years of slogging before making it big. Throw those two anything and they can make it sound great.

Wow Jill, Kate and Kelly killed this song. It just goes to show you that good songs can go to popular artists that can’t sing and it just takes someone to cover a song to see what a beautiful song it could’ve been.

This is what sucks, Miley has good songs but she doesn’t have the voice to back it up.

I don’t mind Miley, but this is the answer to the question I had about what was so off about the original song. It’s her voice, and it’s an overproduced track. This is much better.

They wouldn’t have been asked to be backup singers if they weren’t excellent vocalists in their own right. Suzie McNeil (Rock Star: INXS alum) did some backup singing for Pink before recording her first CD and going on tour herself.

Okaaay that was AMAZING!!!!!!! I flove that song.Kelly should release that on her next album…

Damn! They killed that! Love, love the country harmonies! There’s an R&B group that also does a cover on YouTube. It’s awesome too! The song is really a lot better than I initially thought (no offense to Miley).

Same here. The radio station that we listen to at work, plays this song a gazillion times a day … don’t like Miley’s voice at all. With Kelly and her girls … now THAT I could listen to! But not surprising … that’s our Kelly!

I almost didn’t bother clicking play because I’ve always disliked the Miley version of this song so much, but hoo boy. This is gorgeous. I adore close harmony like this.

Wow! FABULOUS harmonies! That girl playing guitar has a gorgeous country tone to her voice. And it was cool hearing Kelly singing some kick ass straight harmony. She can do anything! It made me like that song, that’s for sure!

Ah, if only I had that luxury. My 5 year old freaking loves this song. She cried so hard I had to break down and violate my own “no buying Miley” rule. I can live with this one, because I think it’s a sweet message for young girls. But I really do not like hearing Miley in my house.

Is it bad parenting to buy a 5 year old their own iPod, just so you don’t have to listen to crap like that? Santa is considering it, for real.

The Climb is a great song! Kelly and co sound fantastic here. Kelly is on the lower harmony, right?

Truthiness: OHmigahhh!! Too funny. She [Miley] makes me shake my head in shame, at about the age of 7 I had a huge crush on Billy Ray. Man, i just revealed way tooo much. It was short-lived i promise.

Anyway, this version is excellent – how it should be sung. All 3 ladies were spectacular!! Very proud of Kelly.
I have to from time to time tolerate the reg version on the radio b/c my mom loves it but I always imitate the high parts (extra nasally please) and I mimic the hand in front of the face thing she does in the video —if u can remember Jared Cotter’s signature hand movement from S.6 (?), it’s the exact same thing but only a 16yr old.

Ha, SpenserJ…your child my mom. I told my mother my iPod would burst into flames if it ever read “Artist – Miley Cyrus”. Heh. She thinks I’m jealous of her success, wha wha whaaat? I feel for her being under the microscope and all but she has made a multi-million $ career from being mediocre at everything.

I love this! LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

From the time I heard it on American Idol, all I could think was that The Climb had the potential to be a beautiful song, destined to be played at many a ‘let me inspire you’  moment. I downloaded it from iTunes hoping that the studio version would prove me right. I was disappointed; even electronic manipulation could only do so much with Miley’s voice. Now that I have heard this version, it turns out I was right after all. I wish Miley much luck but she should concentrate on honing her acting skills, at least there she has a fighting chance.

Just goes to show how much better a song can sound with singers that actually have experience with what the song is about. The only struggles Miley ever had in her career has been avoiding the paparazzi.

Terps you are so right – The Climb would have been a great coronation song and this is the kind of quality of song we were expecting from Kara and friends last year.

Gorgeous rendition by some gorgeous voices, love the arrangement.
