Kelly Clarkson – Radio City Music Hall – New York City (VIDEOS)

Kelly Clarkson performed “My Man” from the Broadway musical Funny Girl and “I’d Rather Go Blind” (a tribute to the late Etta James)  at Radio City Music Hall in New York City Saturday night.

Those tunes were just two of the highlights from an amazing set of songs that included many of her most beloved hits and a generous sampling of tunes from her latest album Stronger.

Kelly told the audience that Saturday was the first time she ever set foot in Radio City Music Hall, and with Sony executives and her pal Reba McEntire in the audience Kelly was PUMPED UP and ready to go.

Kelly also performed an intense and dramatic cover of Florence + the Machine’s “Heavy in Your Arms”.  “My Man”, the result of a fan who requested “a Broadway song”, was worthy of The Great White Way. (“I’m a Broadway geek!” Kelly told us).  “Kelly wanted to pay tribute to Etta James, but instead of singing the popular “At Last” (Kelly’s Idol audition song) she chose her favorite of Etta’s songs, “I’d Rather Go Blind.”

The encore featured a moving and gorgeous acoustic version of “Never Again” that led into an updated reboot of “Miss Independent.” Kelly’s cover of Carrie Underwood’s “I Know You Won’t” gave me goosebumps. And I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Kelly’s “Don’t You Wanna Stay” duet with a virtual Jason Aldean who loomed like Gigantor on one of the giant stage screens.

So much awesomeness.

A big shout out to MTV Idol guru, Jim Cantiello, who happened to have an extra ticket to the concert.  I thought I would have to skip Kelly this time around because  none of the Boston concert dates were working out for me. I’m so glad I didn’t have to miss.  And if you are at all a Kelly fan…make sure you don’t miss either!
