Kelly Clarkson Performs the National Anthem at the New Yankee Stadium

Kelly Clarkson sang the National Anthem at the New York Yankees opening game at their new stadium today.

Love me some Kelly, but she coulda nixed a few of those vocal runs…

    Thank God she fixed her hair, by the way I don’t know how many people are sports fans.. but for them to pick her to sing at the opening of the stadium is HUGE.

    Didn’t love Kelly’s anthem. My favorite is still Jennifer Hudson’s. I considered downloading that one, it was simply mesmerizing.

    I think Kelly has a great voice, I’m just not sure how much I love the runs she does here. It works for some, not for all.

    I like Kelly and I thought she looked and sang good too. Although my favorite National Anthem is by David Archuleta at the Pro Bowl. :clap_tb:

    Yes this version is perhaps a bit too overwrought, but Kelly sounded better than 90% of singers who attempt the National Anthem. Kelly will always be a favorite of mine.

    I don’t like any runs on this song. I think it’s not a song made for people to show off what amazing things they can do with their voice. Leave that for top 40 tyvm. That’s just my opinion. I like Kelly but I don’t like people f-ing with this song.

    Jennifer Hudson’s version was awesome, but it was pre-recorded. Gotta give it to Kelly for singing it live, although I too could have lived without a few of the extra embellishments.

    Tremendous honor for her to have been asked to perform at the opening of the new Yankee Stadium!

    I’ve heard Kelly do better on the SSB. I’m usually blown away by her. Very good but not grand slam.

    She’s awesome though and looks great. Has she lost weight, too? She always looks different. But in a good way.

    ETA: I was surprised by her album sales. Over 20 million for her albums. So domestic and global combined, obviously. No wonder she’s the best selling Idol. She handily beats Carrie in terms of overall sales then. Impressive. Go Kelly.

    She’s a natural, I love this girl and I love the performance.

    I love the soulful vibe she brings to it, for me it’s much more raw, honest and listenable than the over the top dramatic one from Jennifer.

    They sucked. Great historic day however. Kelly will be able to tell her kids and grandkids that she performed at the first home opener at the New Yankee Stadium, that’s major!

    I didn’t like all the runs added, plus she misproduced part (o’re the ramparts part)– right at the beginning of that stanza.

    I thought it was pretty good. There are better versions (from other idols) but that was really good. I mean, she can SING, wow…

    Yeah, I’ve heard her do better too. But was some of that just the sound and not so much her? Hard to be too critical of my favorite though…

    Not my favorite….She has a great voice but I don’t think she sings nearly as well Acapella. In fact other than NAs I don’t think I’ve heard her sing Acapella as a professional.

    Tess go on youtube and search for beautiful disaster, Kelly sang it acapella on tour a couple years ago.

    Kelly kind of “sistered” it up a bit. It sounded really good to me and I’m not a Kelly fan by any means. Her voice sounds strong and pure here.

    OMG – Who was the idiot who walked right in front her at the beginning? Didn’t he realize they were being televised? She sounded very good, not great though. I think this song is so hard to sing, and the singers always strike me as very nervous.
